  2. Oh, how I wish I could have positive things to say.. Such high hopes after episode 4, down the drain. What a shame,

  3. It was not as good as the first 8 or so episodes last year, but maybe almost as good as the final episodes last year. Well, except for the final 3 or 4 episodes of this season - they were worse than anything last year.

So overall it was a step backwards and a bad pattern is developing. Each season is progressively worse and the final few episodes of each season are worse than the beginning of the season.

That said, it is still one of the ten best shows on TV because of the amazing actors involved. Just too bad Howard Gordon is at the helm.

  4. Great potential, but never lives up to it.
Outside of the actors' performances that is.... They are often brilliant.

  5. I loved it - much more than I enjoyed the first season (which I know puts me in a weird minority) - I really felt jerked around during the first season whereas this season was exciting and tense but much less stressful. Homeland has definitely been the show I have most looked forward to each week, in fact it's been a bit of an obsession. And I love how things have been set up for next year: Carrie as a station chief overseas doing real spying, and Saul having to deal with the politics of running an organisation like the CIA - I imagine he'll have to deal with the reality of Dar Adal etc instead of just railing against that element. Poor Mike - it's like Carrie is the voice of doom - he got what he wanted but boy, what a poisoned chalice. And Quinn, who was easily my favorite new character - realistically I don't see how he fits in but maybe the huge skill shortage brought about by the bombing leads to some re-tasking: he and Carrie made a great team I thought. I thought I really wanted Brodie to stay around but in fact I am happy with where this story has landed - I'll be content to imagine him out there somewhere surviving on his wits even if we don't see him next season. Anyway, thanks for all the fun and see you again next year....

  6. I thought it was really good. Season 1 was a lot better, but I didn´t expect season 2 to be the same. Maybe that is why I didn´t get dissapointed. The actors are just some of the best on TV, The dialog is great. Even though season 1 was better, it was still sooooo much better than most shows and will continue to be one of my favorite things to watch.

  7. Is the writing as good as S1? No, it isn't. But that's not even my issue. What I don't like (at all!) is how they're turning the show into a soap opera-ish program. The season finale proved that. Homeland is now about Carrie and Brody's love and how they are overcoming obstacles to stay together. I'm not saying that's not a valid plot, it is, but it was not what the show was about back in the beginning.

  8. So good. Blows season 1 out of the water. Perfect pacing, writing, acting, everything.

  9. kinda meh.... The first one was brilliant and I watched it in two days but the second season wasn't that good. I still have to see the two last episodes but I don't even want to (I will wait to see them before I vote)

One thing I already didn't like in season one that was more than awful in the second one was Dana Brody.. arrrrrg I know it's not cool because she's (and the actress playing her) just a teenager but I HATE her.. I think I've never loathed a character that much before...

She's (for me) the most annoying kid in the history of television....granted her storyline is lame but still..... the way she talk, dress, act, frown and everything is beyond horrible.

In the last episode of the first season I litteraly wanted Brody to trigger the vest so we could stop hearing her whining ....

I know It's mean and shame on me to hate her like that but I can't help it I just hope we don't see her too much in the last two episodes...

  10. I kind of had an opposite experience with Homeland than I did with Dexter.

I didn't really like the beginning of the season and it wasn't till the last 3 episodes that I found myself being really captivated by the series again! I thought the finale was fantastic and still don't even know what to think, as far as Brody is concerned!

IMO what makes this series work is the actors. In a way much like Dexter, they all harbor some kind of weird psychological disorders/strange behavior, making their motives and moves very unpredictable, but also offer a kinds of tragic love stories, while dealing with conspiracy in the name of security.

  11. Honestly? I loved it just as much as Season 1. I'm not one of these people who ever made the claim that Homeland had a certain 'realism' to it, in fact I really don't care about that at all. All the TV critics are writing on their blogs like Homeland is quickly killing itself...I'm afraid not. More Golden Globe noms and more viewers than ever means it'll be here for a long time yet, and thank god. Love it.

  12. Although in some ways I agree, especially on the writing part, I think the show was that in the beginning, because it looks at "how" and "if" people who are 'broken' (or made to feel broken) can ever reallly be happy? Are they doomed to be alone? -But at the same time, be in the middle of a reality that is broken. (bureaucracy, terrorism, conspiracy, politics, theology). I think it makes sense that Carry and Brody would find some kind of solace in each other (and it looks like Quinn might have feelings for Carry), but I also think what Saul says still stands in which can they ever really trust each other, especially when one of them is a terrorist? Every single character tends to have some kind of problem and so it makes the show eerie, because it allows the audience not to predict reality, but also asks the audience to think about reality in general by giving us glimpses at what could all go on in the world, because of who's in charge and what purposes they seek.

  14. I'm voting it awesome but because Season 1 would have been given the "phenomenal" option in a poll. The problem with season 2 was that they gave their best assets in the first 5 episodes, then it turned really bad for around the next 4 episodes before finally picking up for the final 3. It's kind of like auditioning at a talent show with a really good original song then half way through the competition, choosing a cover of a repetitive song we're all fed up with.

I think what attracted the Homeland name was season 1 which did "jerk" everyone around but they bounced different plots and had different things going on. I think the finale "jerk"ed us as we all saw these loose ends being tied up in the final 3 episodes and I thought the show runners would have known that it was "time" for the Carrie/Brodie plot to change. I mean, they had no problem breaking the ground in 24, they killed off any love life of Jack Bauer, I'm not saying they should do the same but if they kill them when we all root for the Bauer lovers like Renee etc, they should at least kill them when we hate the relationship.

And really, you know this was the problem with Ringer. They have these really intense thriller, action sequences but falls down with the horrible soap'y plot. I mean, Ringer would have did better as a 6-12 episode mini series if they cut all the junk we didn't want to see out of it. This was the problem with Homeland and then they threw the Finn and Dana Car accident story which didn't make sense at all. To be honest, it felt like a filler storyline arc just to give them screen time. I think season 1 was charted out a lot better as it really just focused on Carrie, Brodie, CIA, Abu Nazir but I think this season, they were pressured by god knows who to chart out a arc for all these other characters we simply don't care about. I mean, just because we have these actors on contract doesn't mean we have to use them! Madmen is a great example of a show that simply having episodes the characters don't appear in because there's just not anything interesting or captivating happening in said characters life.

So I guess for season 3 of Homeland, go back to the roots of season 1. Let's hope Carrie can prove his innocence by episode 3 the same way they found out he was a terrorist in season 2 early on, finish their storyline and get a new terrorist in town!

  15. I really liked how they portrayed Quinn in this Finale: not someone who follows orders blindly. And he managed to put Estes in his place. Also, Claire Danes and Damian Lewis deliver again an awesome performance - the chemistry between them is incredible. Saul manages to be my favorite character in so many ways! To sum it up in one word: amazing. One little present here: http://youtu.be/NdzL84o5SsQ

  16. I heard some fans were not so thrilled with how the season started, but I actually loved that they used so many story threads so quickly. It was not for the lack of better stories, but it was more them playing with the audience expectations and I loved how it was handled. For me, the middle of the season dragged on a little. But the finale really did it for me. I would not have guessed what happened and that is what I like about the show, it's ability to genuinely surprise me. I heard that Brody may not be a big part of the next season which is actually sad to hear because after seeing the finale, the season 3 I predicted I would see involved Brody in it. But I have never been right about where this show goes.
