While I, like Kaalyn above me, guessed/hoped that Deb would be the one to shoot LaGuerta in order to save/choose Dexter, it was extremely satisfying to watch it play out. Ding dong, LaGuerta's dead! Only 7 seasons too late, but hey, glad it finally happened.
Deb's initial reaction through me for the briefest of moments but then I thought it fit well with her character. Even if she had taken a life before, she had never taken the life of an 'innocent' or the life of someone who was a (pretty crappy) mentor. She didn't want to do it, but she couldn't kill Dexter.
I look forward to discussing with KiarA whenever she sees this.
Dang... I know I'm in the minority on this, but I've quietly always really enjoyed the actress who played LaGuerta...and this season she was...how to put it...just better written overall...and I really can't believe that they did that to her. I know people have been calling for them to kill that character off for years (and rightfully so as she was really annoying as hell) but it certainly dug into me the whole time Dexter was planning to kill her...and then effectively he just ruined Debra's life by pushing her to shoot LaGuerta...and Angel, I know he's going to end up picking up the cross she left behind and this will be a very rough final season for the Morgans...
Also, glad that Hannah got away. I really really loved her character... :)
Yeah, I'd have to say that every moment in this episode (down to Deb getting gas--I knew from the SECOND she got gas in that episode that there would be footage) was how I was thinking things were going to turn out...but it was well done, and I really enjoyed the ride through to next season. I already want next season, I can't wait!!
well.. that was amazing. Much better than i thought it would be. Hanna is free! which is awesome, any chance we'll get to see her next season?
Deb killing LaGuerta was perfect. She's till in love with Dexter and she's gonna do everything she can to protect the man she loves, no question. As hard as i want Deb and Dext to finally be together, it is not fair to Deb going though all this. So i don't know what to think "/ and i'm really looking forward to see how this "relationship" continues.
While I'm on the "I hate LaGuerta" ship, I've never really had anything against the actress, she does a fine job, I guess the majority of my hate is how annoying/manipulative/bitchy/pointless she was up until this season. She was indeed written far better this season than any season in the past, and while it was an odd shift for her to become this super detective, it was nice to have her be relevant and have a good story written around her.
However, I do like that she died, and I think Deb killing her will be another change Deb goes through which will hopefully be an interesting thing to watch next season. Deb was by far the highlight of this season, Jennifer Carpenter nailed it, and I look forward to what she will go through next year.
RIP LaGuerta.I won't miss her. I just don't get why Deb killed her. I'm sure Dex had some alternatives planed for her. And with shooting her, Deb screwed up. Dex wanted it look like Estrada and LaGuerta killed each other. But she should be stabbed, not shoot. Especially not with Debs gun. It was a shit end. I hate open ends. What happened to the bodies? What about Matthews? Although I was prepared for an end like this (Deb killing LaGuerta to protect her brother) I'm shocked that this was her first kill. She's under shock. I'm afraid at what damage this might cause for Deb. "What the hell is that?" "Estrada" that was priceless. Loved it. I'm relieved. Hannah spiked Debs water. I feared that Deb did it to manipulate Dex. Glad it wasn't her. I wonder what the real reason is, she isn't telling about Dexter. Love? Doubtful. No proof more like it. If she had any proof, she would make a deal, I'm sure of it. Guess she's off to Argentina now. Calling Deb a hypocrite was a bit harsh, wasn't it? True, Dex is a killer (with a body count way higher than Hannahs) and he's not ashamed of it. But Hannah knows that he kills only killers which the police can't catch. She kills innocents for her own benefit. Deb wouldn't be covering for him, if he would kill innocents. Good thinking setting LaGuerta up. But it was stupid to go after Estrada at that point. LaGuerta surely didn't give up, he should now it. But on the other side, he was right. Better he finds Estrada, before LaGuerta does. In all her time as cop, LaGuerta was never as much of a cop as she was this season. Never thought she had it in her. Too bad, she focused her energy on the wrong killer.
Good point. Getting rid of LaGuerta is reason enough to vote "awesome". Well, it's not the reason I did, but it would be reason enough. Because of the open end (I fucking HATE open endings) I almost voted "poor" or "awful".
This season was the first and only season LaGuerta acted and thought like a cop. Too bad for her she was after the wrong killer. Agree, she was annoying. And mean, especially to Deb. But I never cared, because she was never in Dexters way. He didn't push Deb into shooting the bitch. She was pointing at him when he said she should do it (shoot).
Yes, she was a good actor. Most people that hate her, hate her, because she was mean and annoying and the worst cop in Miami. Written better? She was a better cop this season. Actually, it's her first season to actually act like a cop. Absolutely. This was Jennifers best season. She never had to face a challenge like this (going thru all the drama and conflict, Deb was going thru) and she did it perfect. Interesting? I'm afraid it could break her. Think of what it did to Deb to just know her brother was a killer. Now she killed too. Her first kill.
And here I am ;) Yeah, Deb killing LaGuerta to protect Dex was one of the possible (very possible) endings for the season. Her reaction surprised me, and didn't surprise me. She was in shock and cried. Deb is a good person, so this kind of reaction after killing an innocent person is logical and not surprising. But on the other side, I think Deb knew, or feared, that it had to end this way. LaGuerta wasn't going to stop, this was obvious, and something had to be done to make her stop. But I knew that Deb would choose Dex over everything and everybody. Like I knew that Dex would do the same for Deb.
My guess? Hannah is on her way to Argentina. That's where she wanted to go. Possible she'll return next season. It would be great, cause I liked Hannah (doesn't mean I trusted her; she was a interesting character and Yvonne did a brilliant job), but I don't want her to get between Dex and Deb again. So, maybe she should stay where she is. I'm not sure if she's IN love with Dexter, but she loves him. And as I said, she'll do everything for him, like he'll do everything for her.
"You think I'm a killer and not a liar?" I burst out laughing! However man, as much as I expected Deb to shoot La Guerta, I still didn't expect her to do it! But i guess it had to be done, as for what happens next season, I have no clue. I would said Dex needs to take Deb and Harrison and run, but itll be interesting to see how they fight it.
Definitely, out of all the theories on how the season would end, Deb killing LaGuerta to protect Dex was the most popular.
RIght! I expected Deb not to handle killing LaGuerta well but I didn't expect her to break down and rush over to LaGuerta, but it made sense. I agree, Deb knew/feared that it might end the way it did, but it didn't make any any less difficult for her to handle. Do you recall if she's killed anyone in the past? I feel like she has, but I can't think of anyone. Even so, I still don't think LaGuerta was her first kill, but definitely her first innocent one.
And I'm with you. Deb would choose Dex over everything/everybody, just like Dex would choose her over everything/everybody (Harrison would be the biggest contender... actually I don't think he could choose between them).
I'm curious about the fallout from this. I'm figuring they still set up the crime scene so it looked like LaGuerta and Humenez killed each other. It probably didn't happen exactly like Deb expected, but Dex/Deb's fates are intertwined now. This whole season has been a progression of how far her love for Dexter will go. She's protected his secret, she's hidden evidence, she's lied to people, and now she's killed, all to protect Dex.
Her "I hate you" line to Dex made me a little sad and worried of what's to come. I'm worried though that she'll continue to feel compromised, that she'll lose herself over the course of next season, and the show will end with her killing Dexter.
Wow. Pretty stunning how that went down. Sad though that they squandered the middle 3rd of the season with elementary writing and thought. The first 4 episodes were great and it ended great. I hope season 8 doesn't pussy foot around and is consistently good throughout.
Scenes with Doakes, as much as I liked the character were kind of pointless. All they did was show an earlier sloppier Dexter.
I like Deb shooting LaGuerta even though it was predictable. As much as I love the show I haven't been truly shocked by anything on it since Rita died. This season was the best since S4. Season 5 I understand it was hard to top season 4 but season 6 just felt like its only purpose was to get to that end scene.
Regardless heres hoping Season 8 is the best series of the show ever and all the characters are utilised. There needs to be a theory article for whats going to go down in S8!
No need to censor the title like that if it's, well, the episode title. And considering that you censored the whole half word, people might think the episode has Dexter and a surprise for his mother ;D I've never seen a "damn" censored, but the lovely f-word always goes there although both are used to swear and almost regular vocab nowadays.
Wrong killer? :P Dexter = Bay Harbor Butcher, don't know how else you can see that. Yes, part of the reason she went after Dexter is cause she thinks he set Doakes up, which is wrong (Lila did that - unknowingly), but that is pretty much irrelevant right?
Great episode! Great that Hannah survived! Looking back now it was kinda obvious that she would try to escape by poisoning herself, hopefully we see more of her next season. The whole Dexter vs La Guerta deal was great, liked all the twist there! With one exception: Deb killing LAG? Really? Very unrealistic! She is struggling with Dexter being a killer the whole season and now she goes on killing herself? That's a huge leap..
Hopefully we can have 12 really fast paced and action packed episodes next season, can't wait!
Of course it was the most popular version. We all wanted LaGuerta dead, especially, since she was after Dex. And Deb killing to protect him was the ultimate proof that he is the most important thing in her life. Like he gave the ultimate proof when he killed his brother for her.
No, I can't say for certain, if she killed. But if she did, she killed a criminal in self-defense, in duty.
I too don't know how he could or would choose between Deb and Harry. The same for her. Let's hope, they don't put them in a situation like that next season (I shouldn't have say that, should I?).
Well, that's the problem with guns. It's hard to set up a crime scene. Ballistic would prove that LaGuerta was killed with a bullet from Debs gun. That is why I prefer knifes. I really have no idea how they will set it up. One is for sure: making LaGuerta (no one cares about Estrada here) disappear is out of question. If she disappears now, Dex has to go too, cause some people will start to believe LaGuertas theory.
Where did she say "I hate you"? In the end? It was hard to understand over her crying and sobbing.
With "the wrong killer" I meant, that he is smart and trained to not get caught (rule no.1). And someone that won't let anyone fuck him around. Also he has detailed knowledge about forensics, police procedure and most important, he IS inside police, so he knows what clues and suspect they have, what they'll do next, …
When Doakes was close to discovering his secret, he was ready to set him up. But he wanted to give up, give it up. But before he could, Lila blew Doakes up.
The show is going to end with Hannah coming back to kill Deb, Dexter killing Hannah and Dexter "retiring" because he has lost somebody close to him. That would be poor.
I would love to see Dexter being killed they way he kills people that got away and not prosecuted.
I believed, Hannah would kill herself to not go to prison. But, of course, escape was always a possibility. Why do you think Deb killing LaGuerta was unrealistic? Deb had, at the beginning, her problems with Dex being a killer, but she accepted it. That she killed LaGuerta was just a proof of her love and commitment to him. He is the most important thing in her life and she'll stop at nothing to protect him. It's the same that he did for her when he killed his brother to protect her.
Only thing I would have liked was if Laguerta saw it coming, if only for a moment. For example, Dexter had said, "She has a warrant for both our phones, we'll both go down!" and Laguerta realizes for just a second that Deb has known about Dexter before Deb shoots her.
What an amazing episode and season. Jennifer Carpenter was phenomenal the entire season and especially in the final scene. She was the MVP of season 7, ahead of Michael C. Hall. Yvonne Strahovski has threatened to eat her underwear if Carpenter doesn't get an Emmy. LOL. Speaking of Strahovski, last night's episode may have been her best performance of the season (this episode and Chemistry were her strongest). Between the scene with Dexter, her smackdown of Deb in the courtroom, and the seizure, she was brilliant. Lauren Velez was also fantastic.
Just your wishes, or do you have sources? Even if Hannah comes back (which I doubt, since she escaped and the police is after her; she probably left country), I doubt she would kill Deb. First, Dexter made it clear, that he'll always choose Deb over everyone else and he doesn't/couldn't trust her anymore. Second, she knows what Dexter is and that next time he WILL kill her if she hurts Deb. She probably knows that the only reason he betrayed and didn't kill her this time was because of Deb. Except, you think she'll come back to kill Deb out of vengeance and not to get Dexter back. Could be. She loved and trusted him and he betrayed her. He did it for Deb, so Hannah could blame her. But I don't think so. Hannah may kill for her own benefit and cause she believes it's the only way to protect herself, but I don't think she is the type that would kill out of vengeance. I think the show can end three ways (for Dexter). First, Dexter dies. How, or who kills him I don't know. Second, he ends up in prison. Third, he goes away. The last possibility leaves an open end (I hate open ends), but it also gives the producers the opportunity to make a movie in a couple of years.
Yes, it had to be done. And it was one of the most popular (possible) ends for the season. Many fans hoped it would end with Deb killing. The bets were on LaGuerta and Hannah. You didn't expect her to do it? Seriously? Come on. The girl has it in her. If not sooner you had to see it in S5. Deb said, that some people don't deserve to die, when she talked about who would want to kill those bastards she said that she would, and in the end she let Dex and Lumen go away although she could arrest them (she didn't even want to see their faces). He's not gonna run. If he would, they could end this season with him running off with Deb and Harry. Besides, if he would run, it would prove LaGuerta right and it would mean open season on Dexter.
She has killed before; one of the Fuentes brothers in season 5. It's an entirely different situation of course, but they made a point of her not feeling bad about it back then.
It's also interesting that she ended up doing it, while Dexter was still doubting to actually go through with it!
I agree. Hannah already pointed out that Debra was being a hypocrite; Hannah only killed to survive, and that's exactly what Debra did. Either that, or it really was all about her brother. That's something for next season, I suppose. Besides, this is not the first time Debra has killed someone, and she didn't feel bad the first time. The fact that she killed an innocent is definitely surprising, but under the circumstances I wouldn't say it was unrealistic. It was either going to be LaGuerta or her and Dexter.
Agree, it's a completely different situation. As I said, she killed a criminal in self defense, while she was on duty. Completely different to an unarmed and drugged woman.
Dexter didn't doubt. He was going to kill LaGuerta when Deb showed up. Then he hesitated. He just wanted Deb to go, so he wouldn't kill in front of her. But then LaGuerta woke up and everything got out of hand.
I had that argument before, but O.K. Hannah killed more for her own benefit than to defend herself. Isaaks assistant and that guy in the home were probably the only kills to protect herself or others. Mostly she killed to get something out of it, or cause it's the easiest way to solve problems. Already said, that hypocrite maybe strong. True, she isn't arresting Dex for his murders. But the reason for that (and the difference between him and Hannah) is, that he kills murderers that would otherwise get away and keep on killing others. I have no doubt that, if Dex would kill innocent people, she would arrest him.
Well, her other kills were probably criminals that were threatening innocent people and she just did her job. So no wonder she didn't feel bad about that.
Is just me .... or th eflowers left on Dex home by Hanna will lead to something bad?
Meaning, poison .
Anyway ..... Bye bye Capt, Laguerta and wellcome Cap. Batista (who will not retire after the death of Maria but he will get suspicious and eventually will kill Dex and arrest Debra or Vice/versa)
No, no spoilers. Less wishing, more guessing. From the recycling of older storylines in this season, that other have posted, I was wondering why they left the Hannah storyline unresolved and I just thought, it would perfectly fit if they recycle the "Lila"-storyline, which coincides with what you said about Hannah killing Debra (and I think every serial killer can kill in rage, why not?)
I agree with you about the possibilities and I hate open ends, too. I hope they will kill him, because there have been too many shows where "the anti-hero" survives or leaves "unpunished". 24, The Shield and to a certain degree even the Sopranos. So, it would be fresh to actually NOT let him get away.
The only option for Deb and Dexter is to "Bay Harbor Butcher" the bodies into plastic bags and throw them into the gulf stream... but how are they going to explain where LaGuerta went...? Or do they gross anatomy thing, pull the bullet out and stab over the bullet wound... don't know if that would work though =P I hate these kind of cliffhangers....!
Well, we don't know how Hannahs storyline will end. Maybe she'll show up again, maybe not.
What Lila storyline? You mean the he went after her and killed her? Guess Deb wouldn't mind.
Kill him? NO!!! I want him to live happily ever after with Deb and Harry. But you're right, almost every show and movie has a happy end. It would be a complete end to the story. But I'd like the possibility for a movie.
The Dexter Prophet says it will be either A: covered up with fire. Or B: The Butcher will dispose of the bodies as he always does, in the gulf stream. LaGuerta's body will never have an autopsy. Bank on it.
Right. Lila wanted Dex all for himself. When he wanted to go back to Rita and the kids, she tried to kill them. Hannah already tried to kill Deb, and she has shown some obsessive behavior. Her motive was, that she feared Deb would try to bring them apart. So you meant, that Hannah might be back to try again? She'd have to be stupid. The police is looking for her. And she knows that Dex would kill her if she tries again. But on the other side: mentally sick people aren't known for logical thinking.
I meant Harrison. Baby Harry. Just not a baby anymore.
Fire: Fire is good to destroy evidence, like prints or DNA, papers or photos, … But it won't do any good with the bullet.
Dispose: It's always a problem to kill a cop, or make him disappear. Gets even harder with someone as high in the food chain as LaGuerta (even if no one liked her). Add her claiming, Dex is the real BHB, and you got the entire police department investigating on Dexter and Deb.
The article over on tv.com summed it up better than I could have. "When a good story builds to a likely and relatively believable conclusion, it can be just as satisfying as a major twist." For better or for worse, Dex/Deb are the most important people in each others lives, and anyone who threatens that likely won't survive.
Right, I was thinking more of a criminal kill in self-defense. But I just perused through a Dexter wiki on Deb but couldn't anything that said she killed anyone before.
And I don't think the writers are that stupid (not that I'm saying they're stupid) to put Dex in a place where he has to choose between Deb/Harrison. I just don't see how they could ever get there. No matter what happens between them, I just don't see how that could be a possibility. Silly me for even thinking of such a thing.
I'm sure Dex, in all his forensic guru-ness, would know how to set it up so it looked like Humenez shot LaGuerta instead of Deb. Maybe by trying to pull of the same thing with the knife? Would that actually work anyway? We'll see what the fallout of this is next season. I'm sure Batista will want a full investigation into this, maybe he'll be next season what LaGuerta was this season and Doakes in Season 2?
You're right it was hard to understand, but what I thought I heard her say was "I hate you" when she was holding LaGuerta and looking at Dex. I'll rewatch that scene to confirm, or at least hopefully hear it better.
"Dex/Deb are the most important people in each others lives, and anyone who threatens that likely won't survive" couldn't say it better.
Someone reminded me on S5. There was a shoot at a club. Deb killed one of the criminals. And some innocent people died and LaGuerta blamed Deb for it. There might be more, I just can't remember. But hey, I've got 7 or 8 months time to rewatch all the seasons.
I too won't believe they'll make Dex choose between Deb and his son. Unless they are desperate enough. Can you imagine anyone would miss that?
Honey, anything could work if Dex gets that bullet out. If the bullet is out, there is no way to prove where it came from. That is why I prefer knifes. So much easier. Remember Travis? How easy it was to cover up the knife with the sword? Impossible with bullets. Unless you get them out. Batista cared for LaGuerta. Possible he comes back to investigate. If there is something to investigate. We still don't know how Dex will cover it up.
SB said nothing new. Hannah might be back. He would like her back. Many fans would like her back. Many fans would like Lumen back. Doesn't mean either will be back.
Thank you! I thought there was some point in the show where Deb had killed someone. I do remember that club shooting now and how LaGuerta shoved the blame onto Deb.
Right, I don't doubt that Dex would get the bullet out and possibly swap the bullet or fire another bullet into LaGuerta. I just wasn't sure if he did fire another shot into her after taking Deb's bullet out, if they would be able to tell that a second shot had been fired.
Exactly, it all hinges on how well Dex/Deb cleaned up the scene that will tell if Batista is suspicious of it at all. I'm curious if anyone will care to notice. The assumption I can see everyone making is that LaGuerta was accusing Dex of killing Humenez, but if they find that he was alive (at least when she accused Dex) and it looks like LaGuerta/Humenez were working together, then I don't see anyone suspecting Dex.
Yeah, well, LaGuerta was always a bitch. Throwing others to the wolves if it helped her.
Removing the bullet and shoot again? I thought that too. But even if they try they wouldn't get the same angle. In the autopsy they would notice it. They couldn't possibly prove where the original bullet came from, but it would be enough to leave the case open. They are only safe, if the case is closed.
The problem is not just the cover up, but also who will be in charge. "If anyone will care to notice" is not the problem either. As I said, it's always a problem if the victim is a cop. If they like her or not, it's personal if one of their own is killed. And it depends on who is in charge. Maybe they'll cut Dex and Deb out of the investigation, because they suspect something. Yesterday LaGuerta said Dex is the BHB and today she is dead? And we know that Batista is good at his job. He was the one to notice, that the bartender didn’t kill Michael and committed suicide.
Right. Even, if they doubt that LaGuerta set Dex up (and believe the he set her up). Estrada is the clue that leads to her, without a doubt. She was the one that got him out of prison. And he was alive when she accused Dex to kill him. But if someone thinks too hard, he'll ask, why the evidence that was found with Dex (the bloody shirt or whatever it was) was from '73 (it was '73, right?). If LaGuerta and Estrada were working together and put evidence for the police to find and blame Dex for a murder that never happened, why using old evidence instead of faking new ones? A new shirt with some blood on it would be more convincing than evidence that was gathered 40 years ago.
That's a good point, they wouldn't be able to get the same angle. I could see them removing the original bullet and possibly fire another bullet just into the ground then take the shell or whatever part and put it back into LaGuerta's wound.
That's an interesting thing and would make sense to cut Dex and Deb out of the investigation, although I can see Deb still being in it as she's the lieutenant. It is fishy to anyone who looks at it, but then again they did kind of drop Mike's death pretty quickly. Who knows what's to come for them. Right, Batista is good at his job, but I like Batista so I'm worried if he'll go into this hunt.
Gah all this talk of what could be, I want the season now.
And don't forget, that if they try to remove the bullet, they cause more damage to the tissue.
True, Deb as Lt. would probably be part of the investigation. But maybe someone would have a problem with Dex doing the forensics. And Dex is not the one to do the autopsy.
Mikes case was closed, when the bartender "committed suicide". And of course they closed the case quickly. The first victim (the stripper) worked in the same club as the bartender. The connection. The only prints and DNA in the house and on the weapon were his. The gun was the same that killed Mike. And the suicide note: his writing and again only his prints. Isaak was good at his job.
Well, I hope Batista retires (never believed I'd say that), cause if he gets this case, he won't drop it. And he is good. As soon as he is on the right trail, he becomes a threat and has to go. I don't want him to end like LaGuerta.
Agree. They should start working on the new season. Now!!!! If they start now, they can air it by March.
Ah thank you, you said bartender in one of the previous comments but, I'll be honest, I completely forgot that he was set up to be the one that killed Mike and then "committed suicide." Thanks for reminding me of that. Makes me miss Isaak ha.
Based on one of the articles posted earlier today about the snippets for next season it seems like Batista won't stay retired because of the whole LaGuerta thing. Not sure if this translates it won't sit well with him and he'll hunt for the truth, or it means he'll just stay on the force, or something else.
Ah if only we had to wait until March. I know this isn't the case with all the seasons, but for this one in particular, I definitely believe they spent that long time between seasons nailing down a good season. You could see how well crafted Deb's reaction to Dex being a killer. I don't think they would've made it as compelling or well designed as they did without the time to really sit down and work it out. Hopefully that will translate to them continuing that with next season and how Deb handles killing LaGuerta.
Because I don't think she really accepted it. I mean, how can one really accept such a thing? Considering how we have seen Debra struggling with Dexters secret this whole season and then leaping to killing for her brother? The acceptance we have seen so far felt to me more of a choice between two evils for Deb, not like she liked her decision. Debra killing an innocent just doesn't feel good in my book.
Yes, Isaak was great. Evil, but charming. It's hard to get a villain with charisma that the fans like.
BS just said, that Batista didn't signed the papers yet. He didn't say if he retires or stays to investigate the case. Maybe he signs before they find the corpse.
Well, you got a point. If they rush into the story, it will have even more holes and mistakes than usual. We surely don't won't that, do we?
True, she had to choose between two evils. Arresting her brother for 20 years or more of murder (by 10 victims a year that's over 200 corpses. Damn, Dex) or accepting that he is a killer. She took door no.2.
Neither does it feel right in my book, but she had to protect her and her brother.

Bang!
ReplyDeleteI mean, I thought this was how this season was going to end, so I can't say it's shocking, but it was satisfying.
See ya, LaGuerta.
I'm torn. Can't decide if I like it or not OR how believable Debra's actions were. Nevertheless, great episode.
ReplyDeleteThe stupid trolls who are currently voting 'awful' deserve to be on Dexter's table.
ReplyDeleteBEST. SHOW. EVER.

ReplyDeleteI gave it an Awesome just simple because they finally got rid of Laguerta, Thank you Deb :)
ReplyDeletewell.. that was amazing. Much better than i thought it would be.

Loved the episode. Loved the season.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I do like that she died, and I think Deb killing her will be another change Deb goes through which will hopefully be an interesting thing to watch next season. Deb was by far the highlight of this season, Jennifer Carpenter nailed it, and I look forward to what she will go through next year.
Jennifer Carpenter deserves an Emmy for that performance. Simply outstanding.
ReplyDeleteRIP LaGuerta.I won't miss her. I just don't get why Deb killed her. I'm sure Dex had some
ReplyDeletealternatives planed for her.
Never
thought she had it in her. Too bad, she focused her energy on the wrong killer.
I hope, the writers and producers are already working on S8. Starting to shoot next week,
ReplyDeletepremiere next month.
Or they all end on my table.
Agree.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I always say: You don't like it, don't watch it.
Good point. Getting rid of LaGuerta is reason enough to vote "awesome".
ReplyDeleteWell, it's not the reason I did, but it would be reason enough.
Because of the open end (I fucking HATE open endings) I almost voted "poor" or "awful".
This season was the first and only season LaGuerta acted and thought like a cop. Too bad
ReplyDeletefor her she was after the wrong killer.
Agree, she was annoying. And mean, especially to Deb. But I never cared, because she was never in Dexters way.
He didn't push Deb into shooting the bitch. She was pointing at him when he said she
should do it (shoot).
Yes, she was a good actor. Most people that hate her, hate her, because she was mean and annoying and the worst cop in Miami. Written better? She was a better cop this season. Actually, it's her first season to actually act like a cop.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. This was Jennifers best season. She never had to face a challenge like this (going thru all the drama and conflict, Deb was going thru) and she did it perfect. Interesting? I'm afraid it could break her. Think of what it did to Deb to just know her
brother was a killer. Now she killed too. Her first kill.
And here I am ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah, Deb killing LaGuerta to protect Dex was one of the possible (very possible) endings
for the season.
Like I knew that Dex
would do the same for Deb.
Yes, she was incredible this season.
ReplyDeleteMy guess? Hannah is on her way to Argentina. That's where she wanted to go. Possible she'll return next season. It would be great, cause I liked Hannah (doesn't mean I trusted
ReplyDeleteher; she was a interesting character and Yvonne did a brilliant job), but I don't want her to get between Dex and Deb again.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, out of all the theories on how the season would end, Deb killing LaGuerta to protect Dex was the most popular.
ReplyDeleteRIght!
ReplyDeleteScenes with Doakes, as much as I liked the character were kind of pointless. All they did was show an earlier sloppier Dexter.
ReplyDeleteI like Deb shooting LaGuerta even though it was predictable.
ReplyDeleteWrong killer? :P
ReplyDeleteDexter = Bay Harbor Butcher, don't know how else you can see that.
Yes, part of the reason she went after Dexter is cause she thinks he set Doakes up, which is wrong (Lila did that - unknowingly), but that is pretty much irrelevant right?
Great episode!
ReplyDeleteGreat that Hannah survived!
>But she should be stabbed, not shoot.
ReplyDeleteActually, she was supposed to be shot with Estrada's gun.
The Poll Titles come from automatically from the TV Guide Listings when the polls are generated.
ReplyDeleteOf course it was the most popular version. We all wanted LaGuerta dead, especially, since she was after Dex. And Deb killing to protect him was the ultimate proof that he is the most important thing in her life. Like he gave the ultimate proof when he killed his brother for her.
ReplyDeleteNo, I can't say for certain, if she killed.
ReplyDeleteWhen Doakes was close to discovering his secret, he was ready to set him up. But he wanted to give up, give it up. But before he could, Lila blew Doakes up.
..WOOOW....What a Cliffhanger Ending...SPEECHLESS
ReplyDeleteDeb still screwed it up. Ballistics will prove that the bullet, killing LaGuerta, came from Debs gun. I have no idea how they will cover that up.
ReplyDeleteThe show is going to end with Hannah coming back to kill Deb, Dexter killing Hannah and Dexter "retiring" because he has lost somebody close to him. That would be poor.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see Dexter being killed they way he kills people that got away and not prosecuted.
I believed, Hannah would kill herself to not go to prison. But, of course, escape was always a possibility.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think Deb killing LaGuerta was unrealistic? Deb had, at the beginning, her
problems with Dex being a killer, but she accepted it.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing episode and season.
ReplyDeleteGreat season!
Just your wishes, or do you have sources?
ReplyDeleteEven if Hannah comes back (which I doubt, since she escaped and the police is after her; she probably left country), I doubt she would kill Deb.
He did it for Deb, so
Hannah could blame her. But I don't think so. Hannah may kill for her own benefit and cause she believes it's the only way to protect herself, but I don't think she is the type that would kill out of vengeance.
I think the show can end three ways (for Dexter). First, Dexter dies. How, or who kills him
I don't know.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't expect her to do it? Seriously?
They have not even started writing Season 8 yet so I doubt there are any spoilers yet :)
ReplyDeleteShe has killed before; one of the Fuentes brothers in season 5. It's an entirely different situation of course, but they made a point of her not feeling bad about it back then.
ReplyDeleteIt's also interesting that she ended up doing it, while Dexter was still doubting to actually go through with it!
I agree. Hannah already pointed out that Debra was being a hypocrite; Hannah only killed to survive, and that's exactly what Debra did. Either that, or it really was all about her brother. That's something for next season, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteBesides, this is not the first time Debra has killed someone, and she didn't feel bad the first time. The fact that she killed an innocent is definitely surprising, but under the circumstances I wouldn't say it was unrealistic. It was either going to be LaGuerta or her and Dexter.
But I want them to start NOW. First day of shooting next week, premiere next month. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteI fucking HATE to wait!!! It's hard enough on regular shows, where you wait 4 months. Here it's 8. This is torture!!!
Agree, it's a completely different situation. As I said, she killed a criminal in self defense, while she was on duty. Completely different to an unarmed and drugged woman.
ReplyDeleteDexter didn't doubt.
ReplyDeleteAlready said, that hypocrite maybe strong.
ReplyDeleteMeaning, poison .
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the possibilities and I hate open ends, too.
ReplyDeleteWell, we don't know how Hannahs storyline will end. Maybe she'll show up again, maybe not.
ReplyDeleteWhat Lila storyline? You mean the he went after her and killed her? Guess Deb wouldn't mind.
Kill him? NO!!! I want him to live happily ever after with Deb and Harry. But you're right, almost every show and movie has a happy end. It would be a complete end to the story. But I'd like the possibility for a movie.
I knew it! i called it a few weeks ago. I said in a twist Deb will kill LaGuerta.
ReplyDeleteIf I recall it right, Lila became obsessive and wanted Dexter for her alone, so that´s where I drew a possible comparison.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean happily ever after with Harry. Harry is dead, right?
The Dexter Prophet says it will be either A: covered up with fire. Or B: The Butcher will dispose of the bodies as he always does, in the gulf stream. LaGuerta's body will never have an autopsy. Bank on it.
ReplyDeleteThey're fucking screw up!!! Let's hope that LaGuerta's performance
ReplyDeletearresting Dex and looking like she framed him plays in their favor!!!!
ReplyDeleteI meant Harrison. Baby Harry. Just not a baby anymore.
The Dexter Prophet? Never heard of. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteFire: Fire is good to destroy evidence, like prints or DNA, papers or photos, … But it won't do any good with the bullet.
Dispose: It's always a problem to kill a cop, or make him disappear. Gets even harder with someone as high in the food chain as LaGuerta (even if no one liked her). Add her claiming, Dex is the real BHB, and you got the entire police department investigating on Dexter and Deb.
I am the Dexter prophet, I'm just gloating a little. http://www.spoilertv.com/2012/11/dexter-episode-712-surprise-motherfker.html#disqus_thread
ReplyDeleteThe article over on tv.com summed it up better than I could have. "When a good story builds to a likely and relatively believable conclusion, it can be just as satisfying as a major twist." For better or for worse, Dex/Deb are the most important people in each others lives, and anyone who threatens that likely won't survive.
ReplyDeleteRight, I was thinking more of a criminal kill in self-defense.
ReplyDeleteSomeone reminded me on S5.
Ah, got it. And you are right, mentally sick people aren´t know for logical thinking, so it´s a possibility.
ReplyDeleteI don´t know, was just guessing. Could see her coming back, especially after Scott Buck´s new interview.
God, finally, I've been wanting that evil bitch dead from day one. She dies in the first book, so I've been waiting for it in the show eagerly.
ReplyDeleteSB said nothing new. Hannah might be back. He would like her back. Many fans would like her back. Many fans would like Lumen back. Doesn't mean either will be back.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I thought there was some point in the show where Deb had killed someone. I do remember that club shooting now and how LaGuerta shoved the blame onto Deb.
ReplyDeleteRight, I don't doubt that Dex would get the bullet out and possibly swap the bullet or fire another bullet into LaGuerta.
ReplyDeleteRemoving the bullet and shoot again?
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting thing and would make sense to cut Dex and Deb out of the investigation, although I can see Deb still being in it as she's the lieutenant.
ReplyDeleteTrue, Deb as Lt. would probably be part of the investigation.
ReplyDeleteBased on one of the articles posted earlier today about the snippets for next season it seems like Batista won't stay retired because of the whole LaGuerta thing.
ReplyDeleteYes, Isaak was great. Evil, but charming. It's hard to get a villain with charisma that the fans like.
ReplyDeleteBS just said, that Batista didn't signed the papers yet.
ReplyDeleteNeither does it feel right in my book, but she had to protect her and her brother.
I think the finale could have been better, I mean, after the last one my jaw was on the floor but the entire season was amazing!
ReplyDeleteI think we all agree that the best part was the death of LaGuerta
ReplyDeleteIt doesn´t mean anything necessarily, but if the showrunner wants something it weighs more than the fans want something ;-)
ReplyDeleteTrue
ReplyDeleteWord ;-)
ReplyDelete
