Hmmm, I kinda disagree with the description the BBC have given this, I don't think Arthur would kill Kara just for having magic at this stage in the show. He's been shown saving another with magic from execution this season after all.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to have seen what would have happened to kara if Arthur had to deal with her for magic alone, we are still in he dark about what he would do, is he very different from uther? With the old witch who gave him the horn :) he said it was wrong to burn her without trial not that its wrong to kill her at all, then there was the Druid who was sent by the desir he was being arrested for using magic and was then hunted down for killing a knight while resisting arrest, with fina she was to be hunted on the word of gaius that she was plotting against Arthur
ReplyDeleteSo I don't know if Arthur would kill someone or using magic but the way he was ready to kill Tyr without any investigation but just because it was the law of Camelot makes me wonder if Arthur is a good king
I think this is a very grey area that the writers manipulate to suit their needs. I think if Arthur found someone inside Camelot with magic he would be forced to execute them not only because of the laws that *he has not changed*, but also because he probably can't see why a magic user would BE in Camelot knowing they could be executed, unless they were up to no good. Outside of Camelot I feel he is more open to magic and accepts that not all magic users are evil.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree with Sandi on this one, too. I would like to think,
ReplyDeleteanyway, that Arthur wouldn't kill a Druid just for being a Druid... Does
anyone ELSE remember the episode where Arthur apologizes to the spirit
of the little Druid boy who was possessing Elyan and says he was wrong
to hurt them? I believe it was in Series 4, "A Herald of the New Age?"
As much as I love this show, it's remarkably inconsistent on these
issues of magic, as well as other things - One second Arthur agrees to
remember that magic isn't always evil, and the next he's completely
unwilling to see that. It's sort of the same thing with Arthur and
Merlin's relationship, too. One minute the king seems to really respect Merlin, and his teasing seems to be just that, teasing. He'll act like Merlin is "just a servant" blah blah blah, but it's obvious he's just messing with him. Then, other times, he completely disregards Merlin - I mean... he FORGETS him on their quest to save Gwen? Come on, Merlin writers. Honestly it feels like they're playing something for laughs that doesn't make ANY sense anymore for the characters. Those sorts of gimicks haven't been realistic to their plot/characters since season 1. Anyways, sorry for the rant. The acting in this clip looks amazing - here's hoping it's a good episode!
I can't believe, after all this time, even people so close to Arthur, believe he would do such a thing! I mean, come on! What has he done to earn this complete lack of trust on the subject! Aargh!
ReplyDeleteOkay, calming down;) Anyway, can't wait to see the episode!
I think all those situations differ from the one that the BBC talks about above. Tyr was in on a plot to kill Arthur, albeit reluctantly due to pressure from Gwen about his mother. He admitted that he knew, and wouldn't give up the name of the person responsible, which is why he was sentenced. All those other people didn't get that far along in the process.
ReplyDeleteFinna was apparently after killing Arthur too, on Gaius's say so that is, and I assume she would have had a trial if caught, I can't see him killing her without one. The druid the Disir sent was a known assassin iirc? Either way it's his murderous actions during his arrest which cause him to be hunted down, and again I assume he would have had a trial if he hadn't antagonised the situation when cornered.
The BBC are trying to tell us in that summery that Mordred and Merlin believes that Arthur would kill Kara just for having magic, I don't get that feeling at all from the clip, let alone the episode itself. So I'm wondering if that is laziness on behalf of the person who wrote that or they have people who don't know what they are talking about write up summaries. Either way, it's misleading the audience imo.
It had slipped my mind that Arthur had made that promise last season, it's a very good point too.
ReplyDeleteIt annoys me how they play things for the lols too, and the way they attempt clumsy twists and turns such as if Finna was good or bad last episode. Why the heck did she tell the crow to go to Morgana Pendragon, when she really meant Alator. It was only to trick the audience into thinking she was bad, but it was so clumsy/confusing it was ridiculous once the true reveal was known. Why would she use her real name, or even tell Alator anything because he's captured :s
