Supernatural - 8.05 - Blood Brother - Podcast
4 Nov 2012
Podcast SupernaturalWhile this week's Supernatural episode, Blood Brothers, was far less divisive in the fandom than last week's Bitten, Lilith and I came at it from different perspectives and thus had different opinions. I loved it and think it is the best episode of season 8 so far. Lilith was cooler about it. What did you think? Also, don't forget to submit your audio or video files on Bobby, Castiel, and Crowley. We want to know what your favorite episodes and lines are and why you love the characters. You can submit all entries to teamwinchesterpod@gmail.com Thanks for listening!

For me this episode marked a turn back to the Supernatural I know and love. I thought the story was for the most part well-written, with the exception of a few noticeably clunky lines. The pacing was great except for the sappy love story segue in the middle. I like Benny as a character so it didn't bother me to spend time getting to know him a little better. All in all a solid episode.
ReplyDeleteI am actually surprised at the positive reaction towards this episode. I felt that this episode is quite boring, except for few dialogues between Sam and Dean. Honestly, the only episode I enjoyed this season so far was "Heartache" and it really felt like old Supernatural good interactions between the brothers. I liked "Bitten" much more than this episode.
ReplyDeleteBut, I liked Benny, even though his back story was boring. I think he is a great addition to the show and would be an excellent ally to the Winchesters. I hope they somehow bring Bobby back on the show too.
As far as mytharc of this season goes, all we got so far was a dumb auction and murdered Kevin's girl friend. Did not grab my eyeballs yet. But I hope this turns out to be good in the coming episode, when Amanda Tapping, angels and demon story reaches a peak.
My first time listening to this podcast and I found it really well organized and fun. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Lilith creates the episode outline and does all the hard work and editing to make it flow.
ReplyDeleteI think part of the positive reaction was that the brothers were actually in this episode, a relief in the post-Bitten wake. I didn't find Benny's back story boring except for the love story part. I thought the stuff about getting revenge on his sire was very interesting and I liked seeing why I should care about this character.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Heartache seemed more like Supernatural than many this season. It's my second favorite so far, but I thought this one had the good old Supernatural vibe too. For one thing, it's the first time the brothers seemed even close to in character this season. Sam pushing the gas pedal to get to Dean showed that he cared and in some cases that's been hard to see this season. Sam has been wildly out of character the whole time. Dean being the loyal friend who will have your back when times are tough is a Dean I haven't gotten to see in a while and it was nice to have Dean back too. I like that this episode is the first time this season the brothers were recognizable to me.
I didn't expect this one to be mytharc heavy as much as I expected it to be brother-rift heavy. Quite frankly, I am glad I was wrong about that. I agree that the quest for God's Word has stalled but I mind it less right now than I did last season. They have to fix the brothers first. I do miss Crowley though and I'm sure we will head back to myth heavy soon. Sadly, I am not near as excited as you are to get angels vs demons again and especially not to get even more angels on the show even if they are played by the amazing Amanda Tapping. I hope this season shuts down the whole heaven vs hell thing for good. We've had it for too long and it always seems to be way over the brothers' heads. I'd like something more earthbound in the future.
One more problem with 805 episode is it doesn't have many supernatural elements in it. Except for the very fact they are vampires, there was no supernatural(paranormal) stuff going on. It felt too human-ish. May be this is just me. And also, I face the same problem with purgatory. I expected it to be some place where physics goes insane and we would see Alice in Wonderland or rather "Dean in Monsterland". And alas, all we got was Amazon forest and three lost dudes. It is not supernatural-y at all, to me. Action was terrific, but I expected more creativity in the detail of purgatory. Once the flashbacks are over, I think, Purgatory story-line is going to meet its dead-end. I expected purgatory story-line to play a role in Demon hunting myth-arc of the season and I don't see that happening and hence one more disappointment.
ReplyDeleteHeartache episode, actually delivers good supernatural stuff, with good brother moments and also an unpredictable plot(after quite a long time). I loved that grand ma in the episode.
On any day, I prefer actions than interactions between the characters. So, I hope Sam and Dean does something for each other rather than
I thought you were going to add a friendly-cas fan voice for balance in the podcast?
ReplyDeleteCas was barely in this episode. We will be adding guests spots in Cas-centric episodes where a bigger part of the podcast will obviously revolve around him.
