-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS remained the network to beat on Thursday with a first-place overnight finish in each of the six half-hours. Red-hot The Big Bang Theory opened with an 11.0 rating/17 share (+11 percent from one year earlier), followed by relocated Two and a Half Men (9.6/15: +39 percent from year-ago occupant Rules of Engagement), sophomore Person of Interest (9.6/15) and recent entry Elementary (7.3/13), which has snagged the coveted Super Bowl XLVII lead-out spot on Sunday, February 3, 2013. The overall 30 percent year-to-year growth for CBS is a result of encore telecasts of Person of Interest and The Mentalist airing on the year-ago evening. And the retention for Elementary out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Person of Interest last night (9.5/15) was an acceptable (albeit non-spectacular) 77 percent.
Over at NBC, an 8-9 p.m. edition of The Voice performed admirably opposite the CBS sitcoms with a second-place 6.6/10. Comparably, that was 164 percent above year-ago occupants Community and Parks and Recreation (each with a 2.5/ 4 on 11/10/11). And it lifted lead-out The Office to a season-high 3.8/ 6 (#3t) in the 9 p.m. half-hour. Comparably, The Office built by 19 percent from its most recent original telecast (3.2/ 5 on October 25).
Parks and Recreation on NBC, unfortunately, slid to a 2.6/ 4 at 9:30 p.m. (#4), while older-skewing lead-out Rock Center With Brian Williams finished a distant third in the 10 p.m. hour with a 3.1/ 5. Parks and Recreation, like 30 Rock and The Office, should also be ending this spring.
Elsewhere, freshman ABC drama Last Resort continues to slowly lose steam with a series-low 4.2/ 7 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m. But, comparably, this was still 24 percent above failed year-ago occupant Charlie’s Angels (3.4/ 5 on 11/10/11). Six-week overnight track for Last Resort: 6.5/11 – 5.5/ 9 – 4.7/ 8 – 4.8/ 8 – 4.4/ 7 – 4.2/ 7). Next on the alphabet net was veteran Grey’s Anatomy at a second-place 6.8/11 at 9 p.m. (-18 percent from the 8.2/13 on 11/10/11), followed by sophomore Scandal, also from Shonda Rhimes, at a second place 4.6/ 8 at 10 p.m. Comparably, Scandal dropped by 19 percent from Private Practice on the year-ago evening (5.7/10 on 11/10/11).
On Fox, The X Factor at 8 p.m. finished third in the 8 p.m. hour with a 4.7/ 8 -- 29 percent below competing The Voice on NBC. And that led into a third-place 3.7/ 6 for diluted Glee at 9 p.m., which should be officially graduating this spring.
The CW capped off the evening with healthy The Vampire Diaries (#5: 2.3/ 4 at 8 p.m.), which was on par from one year earlier, followed by week five of Beauty and the Beast at a not so beautiful 1.3/ 2 at 9 p.m. Comparably, Beauty and the Beast was 19 percent below shortlived year-ago occupant The Secret Circle (1.6/ 3 on 11/10/11), with retention out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of The Vampire Diaries (2.2/ 3) of 59 percent. Five-week overnight track for Beauty and the Beast: 2.4/ 4 – 1.5/ 2 – 1.5/ 2 – 1.3/ 2 – 1.3/ 2.

there goes Last Resort's football excuse for last episode's drop
ReplyDeletePOI rocks in the numbers.
ReplyDeleteUgh,Last Resort. The one show of this season that i love and its going downhill....
ReplyDeleteI like your nice big red disclaimer. Sorry you've gotten heat for MB's opinions. They are the earliest ratings available so I know why you print them.
ReplyDeleteHa yes, now no one has any excuses to send me hate mail lol
ReplyDeleteI know, its really sad. I can not see it lasting beyond it's initial 13 episode order, and that is a real shame. Can't argue with the numbers though, not enough people are watching to make it a success.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Beauty and the Beast has stabilized. Hopefully The CW will give it a full season order because I think the show has potential to be something good.
ReplyDeletei have a heart-attack nearly every time i see the ratings b/c i have come to LOVE Beauty and the Beast...i think the title is misleading as it has little to do with the actual story, but if you take that out of the equation and just WATCH THE SHOW it's just phenomenal....i love the chemistry b/t Vincent and Katherine, and the episodes have me glued...every week i pray we get a full season pick-up...if they keep going, it's gonna get awesome!!
ReplyDeletei wish some other network renews last resort if abc cancels it or when abc cancels it.
ReplyDeleteI love it too
ReplyDeleteIt is really sad about Glee having bad ratings. Personally FOX shouldn't have moved Glee on Thursday nights.
ReplyDeleteI really don't understand, Glee only had 5.73??? But this episode was good even if we didn't had NY parts ...
ReplyDeleteOn CBS, it looks like "The Miley Cyrus Effect" might be an actual thing; Two and a Half Men(4.0) has now broken a 4 in each of its Miley-starring eps and averaged about a 3.6 in the non-Miley eps. And ABC's Last Resort (1.4) was able to get back one tenth after its extreme drop last week.
ReplyDeleteFOX is insane and is killing Glee week after week. If puting it to compete with Grey's Anatomy and POI wasn't crazy enough, the show had to deal with a four weeks hiatus in the beginning of the season.
ReplyDeleteYet, it's doing better than The X Factor in the demo. But I really think that sending it back to Tuesdays is the right thing to do.
I want Last Resort to get a full season.I really do,it'll be such a shame if they cancel it.
ReplyDeleteThe ratings aren't great, but at least it was up a tenth from last week. And what can possibly be a hit against TBBT?!
Algo es algo dijo el calvo porque el salio un pelo!!, I'M SO GLAD!! even when it was just a little bit, it's the first week B&TB numbers didn't go down, but the contrary, and that's something.
ReplyDeleteWhat is happening to X Factor. I guess the new hosts are killing it.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see grey's is back on track!
ReplyDeleteI'm also happy elemnetary is doing well.
TBBT did well as usual, so no surprises there :D
Hope Scandal ratings get higher from now on :/
I am so sad about Last Resort as well, I really think Thursday was a bad night to put it on.
ReplyDeleteWe are Proud fans, so happy for POI rating.
ReplyDeleteYay for POI, and I hope all the great shows have good ratings,
ReplyDeleteLOVE POI.
Vampire Diaries lead in is being wasted on Beauty and the beast, should put Nikita on after it instead.
ReplyDeleteYou think its the night? Many have said its the time its on.They were talking about that even before the show aired..gee,all i know is its sucks. There hasn't been any other new series this season that hooked me the way LR has....What a bummer. :(
ReplyDeleteI just don't get why they put it on such a busy night, ABC did actually promote it quite a bit so it seems like they wanted it to succeed but everyone knows Thursdays are a crazy night and hard for new non-CBS shows to get ahead.
ReplyDeleteNBC had the same problem with Awake earlier in the year :(
Yes,and with ABC they had the same problem with Missing last season.Missing was on Wed. night i believe,at 8 pm.Those two shows were both good but again, no one watched..
ReplyDeleteMissing was on Thursday at 8. I loved Thursday nights. Missing, POI, and then Awake. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't think it's about the day/time slot, it's more that the writing gets worse and the show seems to be profit-oriented rather than creativity-oriented. I mean I get it that TV shows are there to gain profit, but Glee seems to do so without considering the impact it has on its audience.
ReplyDeleteYeah I feel like it would be doing a little better on an other night. I mean yeah writting sucks but that's nothing new. Season 2 was a wreck and it's the favorite season of a lot of Gleeks ahha.
ReplyDeleteI just need 1 more season. oneprettylittleseasonthendowhatever *sigh*
Well if poeple don't watch the show they don't know it's good. :P
ReplyDeleteI thought they didnt do enough promo after that 5weeks break it's barely if I knew when it was coming back O.o
Or maybe I dont watch fox enough. But yeah. Thurday night = not good for glee.
Happy about "Person of Interest" and really sad about "Last Resort". The latter really deserved a better timeslot.
