-Ratings Breakdown:
It was an easy Wednesday victory for CBS, which bested the No. 2 network, Fox, by 2.2 overnight rating points. But the race among coveted adults 18-49 will, no doubt, be tighter.

Old faithful Survivor, themed Philippines this season, opened for the Eye net with a dominant 6.7 rating/12 share in the overnights at 8 p.m., which was just six percent below one year earlier (7.1/11 on 11/02/11). Next was veteran drama Criminal Minds (7.6/13: #1 from 9-10 p.m.), a true unsung primetime hero over the years, followed by granddaddy CSI at a dominant 7.2/13 at 10 p.m.. Opposite new dramas Nashville on ABC and Chicago Fire on NBC (each with a 4.2/ 7), CSI, year-to-year, increased by four percent. It is the drama that keeps on ticking!

Second-place Fox populated the evening with an encore telecast of The X Factor, which was on the map with a 4.9/ 8 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m.

Moving to ABC, a repeat of holiday special It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, which always resonates among adults 18-49, tied The X Factor encore on Fox with a 4.7/ 8 at 8 p.m. Lead-out sitcom The Neighbors, which was just renewed for the full season, slipped to a series-low 3.6/ 6 (#3) at 8:30 p.m. Comparatively, that was a loss of 25 percent from one week earlier (4.8/ 8 on Oct. 24, which led out of a 6.1/10 for The Middle), and the retention out of the Charlie Brown repeat was 77 percent.

Next on ABC was beloved Modern Family, which won the 9 p.m. half-hour with a 7.5/12 (and will lead the night among adults 18-49), followed by relocated Suburgatory at a third-place 4.6/ 8 at 9:30 p.m. Retention for Suburgatory out of Modern Family was modest at 61 percent. One year earlier, former time period occupant Happy Endings averaged a 5.0/ 8 out of an 8.9/14 for Modern Family (which was 56 percent retention).

At 10 p.m. on ABC was aforementioned week four of Nashville, which sunk to a series-low 4.2/ 7 in the overnights. Compared to year-ago occupant Revenge (6.4/11 on 11/02/11), this was a loss of 34 percent, but the retention out of Suburgatory was solid at 91 percent. Four-week overnight track for Nashville: 6.8/12 – 5.0/ 9 – 4.8/ 8 – 4.2/ 7.

Over at NBC, a last minute edition of soon-to-conclude 30 Rock finished a distant fourth with a 2.6/ 5 at 8 p.m. Next was Guys With Kids at a series-low 2.4/ 4 at 8:30 p.m., which dipped by 23 percent from one week earlier (versus a 3.1/ 5 on Oct. 24), followed by veteran Law & Order: SVU at a 4.1/ 7 from 9-10 p.m. (#4). Worth positively noting for Law & Order: SVU, of course, was the overnight growth of 71 percent from Guys With Kids.

Week four of aforementioned Chicago Fire closed the night for NBC with a 4.2/ 7 (#2) at 10 p.m., which remains perfectly compatible out of Law & Order: SVU (and is worthy of a full season episode order in this writer’s opinion). Four-week overnight track for Chicago Fire: 4.7/ 8 – 4.2/ 7 – 4.3/ 8 – 4.2/ 7.

On The CW, drama Arrow lost some steam with a 2.4/ 4 (#5) from 8-9 p.m. But this was still 167 percent above an encore telecast of short-lived drama Ringer on the year-ago evening (0.9/ 1 on 10/24/11). Four week overnight track for Arrow: 3.0/ 5 – 2.8/ 5 – 2.7/ 5 – 2.4/ 4. Next was tired Supernatural at a 1.3/ 2 at 9 p.m., which dipped by 24 percent from year-ago occupant America’s Next Top Model (1.7/ 3 on 11/02/11). Retention for Supernatural out of Arrow was minimal at 54 percent. The network could do better here.

  1. and this guy is saying the same thing again and again and again and again about SPN. what are you doing every week?? a copy-paste???

    ReplyDelete
  2. This guy really doesn't like Supernatural, does he? :P

    ReplyDelete
  3. he used to say the same about Chuck every week, every year. I think he does it just to get a rise out of invested fan bases.

    ReplyDelete
  4. The Supernatural comments amuse me now. It's clear the writer doesn;t like the show so I just scan down waiting to read what negative thing he'll say about it this week.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Glad to see Chicago Fire doing ok :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Chicago Fire was such a great show last night. Glad to hear the ratings are getting better

    ReplyDelete
  7. And with which show could the network do better with? Last I checked Supernatural was the 3rd highest rated program on the network. I'm sure putting one of the 0.4 rated shows after Arrow would be SO much better!

    ReplyDelete
  8. This guy honestly needs to quit be so biased and be neutral about the shows he reports on. No one is here for his opinions.

And crap about Nashville. I don't want it cancelled!

    ReplyDelete
  9. So what does he propose they put after Arrow? Vampire Diaries? That's the only show the would do better than Supernatural in that spot. Berman also considers his winners and losers by HH ratings. But we all know 18-49 is what the networks go by.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Also keep in mind with these ratings

"The following overnights are based on only 49 markets. New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Cleveland, Hartford, Baltimore and Providence are excluded."

    ReplyDelete
  11. Huh, I wonder why. And I don't think they're counting ratings this week for or against shows because of Hurricane Sandy and most people being without power.

    ReplyDelete

Supernatural Is doing great! SpoilerTV are you kidding us?

  13. @SupernaturalGreece:disqus Don't shoot the messenger. We're not the ones writing this. Please read the SOURCE at the bottom of the page.

  14. That's not SpoilerTV - The completely unnecessary comments are from the guy who writes the reports.

  15. Everybody just needs to remember that Marc Berman HATES Supernatural. It refuses to die when he decrees it is dead. He's done this for numerous shows that have gone on for years past his predictions that they should be dead, dead, dead.

He is the first person to report ratings, not even waiting to for all the markets to report in so his posts with his opinions will be the first we are likely to see. Just take a deep breath, hang tight and wait for more unbiased sources that will come in when they have ALL the data, not just some.

But the copy paste is from spoilertv.. I read the source..

  17. Miss Supernatural1 November 2012 at 14:47

Oh, I agree. But Supernatural is losing viewers and this week is less than the past one. I'll wait for the demo, though.

  18. Miss Supernatural1 November 2012 at 14:48

Wooops, I forgot about Sandy (yes, I'm ashamed, I'm sorry)

Arrow and Supernatural were pre empted in Chicago.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Seriously.I want to slap the dude who wants to bury Supernatural. So immature of him to write like this."tired" Supernatural. So NOT poetic

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes, but why are you complaining to use about what is written? Contact the owner the of the article if you have a complain, not us.

  21. Note: The following overnights are based on only 49 markets. New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Cleveland, Hartford, Baltimore and Providence are excluded.

New York is the #1 Market
    Philly is the #4 Market
    Boston is the #7 Market
    Cleveland is the #17 Market
    Baltimore is the #26 Market
    Hartford is the #30 Market

6 of the top 30 markets (3 of the top 10) are excluded from these numbers.

When you copy paste something, usually you have the same opinion with the source..

    ReplyDelete
  23. No, not at all, that it's totally incorrect.

    We're simply reporting the news.

    For example

If we report that a show has been cancelled, does not mean we want it to be cancelled.

If we report that someone dies, that does not mean we want that person dead.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Miss Supernatural1 November 2012 at 14:59

He's just pasting the report that might contain information relevant. I don't think it means he shares the source opinion.

  25. Miss Supernatural1 November 2012 at 15:02

You're right, but I compared this week's to last one's Marc overnight and it's down. However, as someone else pointed out (and I agreed), there are also other facts that affected this week ratings. :)

  26. SupernaturalGreece1 November 2012 at 15:09

    Ok thanks for update..

    ReplyDelete
  27. If Berman were talking to me I'd say: "I see your lips moving, but I can't hear what you're saying."

Supernatural did better on Fridays, against Grimm and Fringe, 2 similar shows that often share fans with it, and it did better than most CW shows even there. And right now, it's what? 3rd or 4th in best ratings/viewers?

I want SPN renewed for another season just to make him more upset. lol

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes Loved the CSI last night. This show with Danson at the Helm is great!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think it is a sure thing Supernatural gets renewed for another season. And I think Season 10 is 70-30 right now, Ackles & Padalecki extended their contracts to Season 9 & 10.

Warner Brothers is in the business of making money and not just ad revenue. Supernatural does that for them. I think Netflix is paying something like $600-750k for every new episode produced (so roughly $14-17 mil for a season). Notice how Supernatural has been extended to a 23 episode season last season and this season. CW actually wanted them to do 24 episodes this season and the cast and crew said they just couldn't do it. Not to mention what they do internationally and dvd/blu-ray/digital sales.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's a shame for Nashville... The show is just amazing but the ratings are pathetic... It's really not a great fall for ABC :/

    ReplyDelete
  31. 3rd in ratings/viewers.Beauty and the Beast did better the first week but that was it.
The oldest(by far) show is more successful than the majority of their shows.

We should really ignore the man!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Berman can eat it

    9:00PM – Supernatural
    Viewers: 2.141 million, A18-49: 0.9/3, W18-34: 0.8/3

    9:30PM – Supernatural
    Viewers: 2.076 million, A18-49: 0.9/3, W18-34: 1.0/3

    ReplyDelete
  33. Those are good ratings. If they hold (I don't know if shows are still being preempted due to Sandy coverage) they are great ratings for the CW. Berman is a jerk.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 0.9?!
That's what he considers "tired"?!With all the problems I was expecting a 0.6 or something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Arrow gained a 1.0 in the demo, even with last week. Supernatural gained a 0.9 in the demo, up a tenth from last week. Via TVBTN.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I guess the viewers for X Factor dropped because of the hurricane or maybe becasue the live shows were originally gonna air on Nov 1.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yeah, like power outages caused by Sandy hurricane.

All shows have been down this week since the storm.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Then there are DVD sales and other things too

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wow...Arrow deserves an honorable mention for a 1.0 in its 4-5th episode, but SPN is a Loser for having -.1 of a score 8 seasons into its run?

    Illogical moron is illogical.

    ReplyDelete
  40. CBS is easing everything at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Marc Berman the retentionista who thinks SPN (an 8 year old show getting a 0.9 when its brand new lead in is scoring a 1.0 which he considers a hit) is 'tired'? wow those ratings sure make him look like the moron he is

    ReplyDelete
  42. this does imply that SPN fans were unterly turned off by episode 4's conceot and quite likely the lack of Sam and Dean, so much so they didnt bother tuning in.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Also remember that Halloween normally reduces ratings. Also CW programming was preempted in Chicago. The CW numbers will probably be adjusted a little.

    ReplyDelete
  44. just read that on TVBTN, a downward adjustment very possible

    ReplyDelete
  45. Nobody mentioning the 40 yr old Charlie Brown special doing a 2.7??? Lol

    ReplyDelete
  46. Snoopy will always win out!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I recall the Season 6 two episode finale being pre-empted in Chicago for a Cubs away game vs the Red Sox and there was no adjustment

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm happy with Supernatural's numbers, no matter what this guy says. I think it's doing pretty well, and is still the 3rd highest rated show on the network.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hey, Marc Berman.. how many times do I have to tell you that SPN is on their EIGHT season, not first! FYI, it's on CW!

Since you're still a jerk, I'm thinking of sending you into purgatory right now

    ReplyDelete
  50. Wow.... This guy /is/ a moron. SPN went up from last week, and is very close to the same since the first couple episodes. Spn has gone UP from last year, big time. The quality of the show has gone up. The show is only slightly below brand new /arrow/, and it's on its 8th season. I get someone hating a show, but he doesn't have to be a complete biased moron who fails to look at the actual numbers. Fortunately, head of CW seems to understand SPN's numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  51. well well well supernatural rating suck who knew. I think this marc guy sucks but the way the show is going right now no wonder its going down I wished it stayed on friday but they wanted it on wed and all the other show that there up aginst well I knew the ratings will go down alitte. I think the show is going to be fine and will have another season because of the great fans that this show has.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I saw SPN had 1.78 viewers only on the other site. Which one is the true? O_O

    ReplyDelete
  53. @shouichie:disqus The numbers above are the early overnight ratings. The ones you saw are probably the final adjusted numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  54. ABC is going to regret picking up The Neighbors for an entire season.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Jordana33 I'm not so sure. I personally think the show stinks. However, it's performing better than the following shows.

Don't Trust the Bitch, Happy Endings, Last Resort. Private Practice. 666 Park Avenue and
    Nashville

    ReplyDelete
  56. Please note that a major market wasn't even carrying SN and Arrow on Wednesday night due to some Basketball game and a lot of people on the East Coast can't even watch their shows.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Also remember much of New York city area and surrounding places could not even watch it due some hurricane named Sandy. WPIX wasn't even going to show it originally due to a Hallow'een parade, but the parade got cancelled and they aired the show.
