  1. Wow. How can one epoisode be so brilliant and so painful at the same time. THAT scene hurt so much, but Colin was beyond awesome. And it still hurts. A lot.
Where we go from here I do not know. How come Mordred was saved anyway? Did I miss something? I thought he was destined to die if Arthur chose not to accept sorcery. But he lived anyway - did the disir save him to bring Arthur's downfall?
What a sacrifice for Merlin to take just to find out that it was for nothing. Sigh.

  2. My least favorite episode of this season. Of this really great season!

I just felt so angry ALL THE TIME.

I can't believe how frustrated I am right now. Just the absurd of the entire situation kills me.

Don't understand the logic of the Disir at all. They decided to judge Arthur because he refuses to accept use of magic in his kingdom so their great plan is to blackmail him into doing that?! Sort of.

I mean, come on. I can't remember even ONE moment/scene/situation where Arthur has seen magic being use for good cause. It only brought him misery and pain. So let's all judge him for trying to avoid that!

I love Merlin, I really do, but I was angry with him too there. He had THE BEST opportunity to say Arthur sth good about magic, even reveal himself, explain all the good magic can bring, SOMETHING. And all he said was: “There can be no place for magic in Camelot” Why is he doing it? It's almost like he didn't want magic to be brought back to Camelot, EVER. And he really does want that. So why? It actually hurts me to see Arthur BEGGING for help (again!), fighting for his knights and Camelot with no one to understand that. Except Merlin. At least there's that.

But the ending where we realize that Arthur "punishment" for his "injustice" is Mordred coming back to life is just... Ahh!

I like Mordred. He seems to really try to be his best self and he deserves a chance. Morgana could have been saved a lot of times, I believe there IS a chance for him too. But I'm afraid, like in Morgana's case, it will be too late before anyone even tries...

*There were some lovely Arthur&Gwen scenes, so yay for that!

Next week, on the other hand, looks pretty fantastic! I'm so happy about that! And absolutely cannot wait!

  3. Colin was amazing in that scene, very powerful delivery of the dreaded line imo.
Merlin only thought that Mordred would die if he persuaded Arthur to defy the Disir. But the Disir let him live because he is important to Arthur's downfall, I'm guessing that this could be why he is his own bane?

  4. I am not sure yet, what eactly in Arthur's character (his attitude toward magic, his trust in other people???) will be his bane, but I thought that - considering his track record - he was not completely dismissive of magic. He seemed honestly unsure what to do when he asked Merlin (he could have downright rejected magic, but did not). Merlin, for all he knew, felt, he had no choice but to advise Arthur to decide against magic. And got it wrong. But he really had no chance against the might of the disir.

  5. I have nothing new to add, because you expressed my feelings for this episode too well.

My initial excitement for S5 is going downhill with every new episode. This is the first time that I wish for this to be the last series (it probably is anyway) because it feels like there's no steping forward, only backwards.

Oh well, 8 more until the end, I want to see where they take this.

  6. It was a great episode. I have mixed feelings about Mordred. I want to like him, but I'm afraid Merlin may be right to be weary of him. What the dragon says concerns me, dragon has tricked Merlin before and so was the dragon correct in saying Mordred had to die? Arthur hasn't seen any good in magic, so why should he want it? Arthur is on his way to being a great king, but he isn't ready to accept magic. The moment Arthur is forced to choose magic to save someone he loves is the moment he will start looking at magic in a different light.

  7. When the stories of Merlin will really be about Merlin, I'll enjoy the episodes. I loved Colin Morgan's acting (he's the best really). His Merlin's scenes were moving and heartbreaking. Merlin made me cry... especially because Merlin waited more than ten years to reveal his magic and his sacrificed himself for this horrible king that treat him like nothing?? ... I want to watch Merlin as the center of his own show. Merlin always caring and saving Arthur from his stupidity and protecting his arrogance... that's not what I want to see.

  8. Yes, I must say I have also started to wonder about the wisdom of Kilgarrah's advice.

  9. Since Mordred's wound was magic, I wonder if the Disir didn't ''turn him dark'' and from now he won't be the same and that's what the creature in the 5x02 said that Arthur would be his own bane, by refusing magic

  10. At this point, I'm only watching because I want to see it through till the end, which will hopefully be this season. I've had it with the contrivances of the writers. Plus, it was basically a repeat of the cristal cave episode in season three, with the difference that back then Merlin did the right thing and was punished...this time around he did the wrong thing and was punished...so basically it makes no difference what he does, Arthur will never be the great king he is supoosed to be (which might be a good thing, because he is an idiot who would be lost without Merlin and Gwen holding his hand).
