I think I prefer the fake title that was going around... "The Reveal"...Yeah, because I HAS to happen, right? Or maybe I'll stick with " The maybe/possibly/could be/almost/not so much Reveal"
I love the correlation between the two titles: DARK vs DAY. Also, nice quadruple alliteration: Drawing - Dark - Diamond - Day.
Someone seems to have put a bit of thought into this.
As for the rubbish fake title: It was never going to be "The Reveal". a) Reveal is a term coined by the fandom, the showrunners would never use i.t b) Reveal is not even a noun, if anything it would have been "The Revelation". c) The reveal is something part of the fandom was obsessed with, never the showrunners (and rightfully so, IMHO). It may happen in the finale, it may not. But it will certainly not be front and centre.
I was kidding about "The Reveal", and you're right, it should be "The Revelation", but most of the people knew it was a fake title, they'd never used that.
I'm really curious about the final two-splitter-ending. I've been following Merlin from seasons 1-now but still get wrong every time about the plots. Hope it won't disappoint and there'd be better a reveal. I mean, we''ve all been waiting for it. I really hope both arthur and merlin will live tho; but i've got my doubts... what about you guys?
From the looks of what we've heard from the cast and Producers I don't think we are going to get a reveal I'm afraid. They've always said that having Arthur knowing about Merlin isn't the story they want to tell, it's just that we fans have never really believed that they meant it :((
I just googled The Drawing of the Dark and came across this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Drawing_of_the_Dark The Fisher King is a main character and the Lady of the Lake a minor one. It also contains a 'prophesied final battle'. So I'm wondering if was used as inspiration maybe...hmmm
I'm glad! I've been reading too many negative comments everywhere, it's time we have some fun about this, otherwise I'll be too depressed when the end comes :D
*g* Oh, I am sorry, hun, I didn't mean you regarding the fake title, Aylass. :) I just saw a ton of people on Tumblr last night in "OMG! The finale is called THE REVEAL!!!!!!" mode, which was a tad bit annoying. :D Though not half as annoying as the idiot who changed the title of the finale on the Wiki page to "THE WEDDING OF MERLIN AND ARTHUR, PART 1 AND 2"... :D
One more thing I noticed: You can switch up the titles of 5.11 vs 5.12/5.13:
Diamond of the Day => Diamond of the Dark Drawing of the Dark => Drawing of the Day
Also, every word in the two titles starts with the same letter as in the other title.
To me it seems like these 5.11 and 5.12/5.13 are going to mirror each other in a way. Maybe as a play of light and dark, night and day, good and evil, dark and white magic.
I couldn't agree more, whatever the ending of the show is i know for sure that the cast will make the most of what they have, and that will make me happy. Not many shows end up with such a talented bunch who all seem to genuinely love/respect each other.
Oh, it's ok, I just wanted to say that I thought you were right. Did someone actually put that title in the Wiki page? ......no comment....
Interesting what you say about the titles, from all the spoilers out there (that I read unfortunately), what happens in ep 11 has a direct impact in the finale, so the title of 11 makes sense.
In other forum, someone wrote that the diamond could refer to the hardness of something, like (and I quote) "the "hardest part" of life is to face the failure and regrets from choices we've made." He also added a poem called MERLIN by Edwin Muir, which is pretty interesting:
I have no expectations. :D I will walk into this finale with the firm belief that their will be no reveal. If there is one, added bonus, but I can absolutely live without one. I learned my lesson from LOST. ;)
^ Right On :) Even if the plot holes were bigger than those on Swiss cheese, I've enjoyed the adorable and might I say, fine looking man called Merlin, the banter of Merlin & Arthur, the romance of Arthur & Gwen the witch who couldn't get one decent plan to ever work, the bad CGI dragon/snakes, the goofs, I've loved it all. I'm excited to see what the finale will bring.
I have to admit that I am getting quite paranoid about this, I can hardly tell you. Why would they deny us a reveal when they have been hinting at it, teasing it so many times. 'One day he will know' Gaius said in The Wicked Day in season 4. 'One day' was obviously not meant in the lifetime of the show. I feel really sad about this (to put it mildly) and angry that we have been mislead for such a long time.
Lol! I saw Excalibur earlier this year (or was it last year?), and I couldn't stop laughing at the way the talked, why did they have to scream so much?!
Some say that it was the more accurate representation of the legend, and it could be, I don't really know, but it was so ridiculous at the same time, it was fun to watch.
I noticed that some scenes in Merlin were almost excactly like the ones in this movie, like the sword coming out of the lake, maybe they were done on purpose.
And yes, I'm sorry Nicol Williamson, but from now on, when I think of Merlin, only Colin Morgan will pop into my head, I'm too used to him by now.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Huh, interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe Diamond of the Day - wonder what's that about...
I think I prefer the fake title that was going around... "The Reveal"...Yeah, because I HAS to happen, right? Or maybe I'll stick with " The maybe/possibly/could be/almost/not so much Reveal"
ReplyDeleteYeah, I like it better too. I don't even know what The Diamond of the Day refers to.
ReplyDeleteI love the correlation between the two titles: DARK vs DAY. Also, nice quadruple alliteration: Drawing - Dark - Diamond - Day.

Maybe because of the heat that'll be released when the fandom explodes that day would be enough to make a diamond?
ReplyDeleteI was kidding about "The Reveal", and you're right, it should be "The Revelation", but most of the people knew it was a fake title, they'd never used that.
ReplyDeleteLOL that's a really good one. I had a good giggle at that because you could very well be right. I say bring it on.
ReplyDeletehaha, that made me smile :)

ReplyDeleteI think you're right. Well, my expectations are below sea level by now, so whatever comes, I'll try to enjoy it for what it is.

MERLIN
O Merlin in your crystal cave
Deep in the diamond of the day,
Will there ever be a singer
Whose music will smooth away
The furrow drawn by Adam's finger
Across the memory and the wave?
Or a runner who'll outrun
Man's long shadow driving on,
Break through the gate of memory
And hang the apple on the tree?
Will your magic ever show
The sleeping bride shut in her bower,
The day wreathed in its mound of snow
and Time locked in his tower?
^ THIS! :)

ReplyDeleteThat novel is a really weird concocture of elements. But I think you have picked out the ones that might be relevant to Melrin.

ReplyDeleteI wish I could take your advice.. I feel so down about the whole thing at the moment I am finding it hard to really enjoy any Merlin at the moment.
