On November 12, Megan Ganz, a (very good) writer on the series, said on Twitter that it was "Day one of shooting the finale". Attached to that statement was the picture below :

As you can see, Chevy Chase is clearly here for the season finale, which is called Advanced Introduction to Finality, a callback on the title of episode 3.22, Introduction to Finality, when they didn't know if the show would be back for a fourth season. Great idea of a title, don't you think ? Looking forward to Introduction to Advanced Introduction to Finality *wishful thinking*.

As you can see from the script, this 13th episode of the season was shot as the 11th episode, explaining why Chevy Chase won't be in 1-2 episodes (e.g : he might be missing from episode 4.12).
Because, whether you like Chevy Chase or not, having a series regular leaving the show before the season finale would have kind of sucked (unless they would have found a replacement for Pierce without the group even noticing the change, like Bill Murray or a goat).
And the possibility of having a back 9 order, or a back 5, or even a back 1.5 seems gone now. Not that having a première date on February 7 left much room for an extension on the 13-episode order : with one episode each Thursday at 8pm for 13 weeks, it gives us a season finale on May 9, 2013... Jeff said he would be eating a steak with his lawyer license back on May 23, 2013, so maybe NBC will try to adjust to that — assuming the new showrunners, self-proclaimed fans (who should know that bit of info given in season 1 then), made a story that leads to such an event (and if Jeff doesn't get his license back, I think there should still be a meat-eating scene in episode 4.13).

I wish he had left after season 3 already and chang could've replaced him in the study group. I mean, Chang's spanish teacher story is wrapped, his student story ended and the end of his reign as a security guard is over i bet now as well.
ReplyDeletei hope they give him something good for season 4 and not leave him in the background or something.
I'm glad he'll be in the finale and graduate with the group, but I won't miss him.
ReplyDeleteI won't miss him.
ReplyDeleteI did not like the title. They should have come up with something new. That being said, Introduction to Finality was one of the best episodes of the show. Let's see if they can recreate that.
