When the cringing reality/meta/Becky type episodes are on, I just keep my eyes on Sam and Dean and ignore what's going on around them.
I'm all for a little light comedy relief in the episodes but I hate the over the top, slapstick kind of humour, for it my eyes it cheapens my favourite show and leaves it open to bad reviews by those tv critics who are happy to find any reasons to diss Supernatural and its fans.
I want people to see Supernatural as one of the best shows on television, and respected even by those who don't consider themselves fans of the show.
I don't even watch movies with that kind of comedy. I watch comedy movies, but not total slapstick ones. And when it comes to shows, I like them to take themselves seriously. Makes for better quality episodes.
Yep. The Winchesters' world is one of horror, monsters and of trying to save people's lives, or it should be! It used to concentrate more on the scary aspect and in building up the drama and mystery, and even the comedy-type episodes such as Tall Tales and Mystery Spot still had a strong dramatic edge to them and rivited one's attention to the screen; but things seem to have slipped too much to the always trying to be funny, and to throwing in too many "Dick" type lines.
Like you say I wish the show would take itself more seriously. It has all the necessary to do so and I hate it when it loses its way with these weird kind of eps.
I enjoy these episodes. I think they are fun and done very well. Some of my favourite episodes are these ones. French Connection is definitely a favourite.
I've yet to have a LARPing episode of Supernatural that I like. In fact they are in my worst episodes list so I'm approaching this one with a lot of skepticism. It's worked for me before. I thought Season 7 Time for a Wedding could be the worst episode ever but since I went in with such low expectations I ended up thinking a little higher of it than the majority of the fandom. Hopefully that's how this will end up too.
if its truth I would wait 'til they film the episode to say they did such a great job keeping it a secret :P If its truth, someone could spot her on set
They won't need to spot her on set. The second she steps foot at the Vancouver airport it will be out. However, they would have hired her already if she is going to be in episode 11. After all they are shooting 9 right now. So I would say they have done well to keep it a secret so far if she's going to be in it. I don't think she will but I would welcome her back.
I already figured that LARP stood for that as soon as saw the title. If this is another meta episode then I'm not looking forward to this. I never was a big fan of meta.
If that's another ''Time for a wedding'' or ''real ghosbusters'' (^^; even if I love the Real Ghosbuters episode more than most people cause I first watch it right in the middle of my very first SPN convention), I agree with you. For now I'm waiting to have more info about this episode. If we're lucky it's not really Meta :) Like ''Amazon.com'' (changed to Slash girls) that was far from being a great episode in any way, but it wasn't exactly a meta or a big comedy.
I do prefer the serious, dramatic episodes or the Comedy that are connected to the main arc like Changing Channels
I enjoy the shows that bring in some of the reality. Usually great for some laughs. I love that when watching Supernatural I might laugh, cry, scream in terror, yell at the TV all in the same episode. :-)
The only ep I have only watched 2 times was the "reality" ghostfacers one. I don't say I hate an ep often, but I did that one. So if this one is going to be like that without the ghostfacers will just have to wait and see.
I don't know, I tend to love meta episodes. Not so much becky episodes (because she's plain annoying), but the French Mistake, Changing Channels, and other such episodes are some of my favorite. I even liked Ghostfacers. I like when this show does something other then follow the same exact formula over and over again. To each his or her own though.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Yep it's Charlie from Season 7!
ReplyDeleteLARPing was actually already seen in the 9th episode of season 5 , "The Real Ghostbusters."
ReplyDeleteIt was known before that in season 4, "The Monster at the End of This Book."
ReplyDeleteHow do you know? I haven't read that any where, yet. It would fantastic if it was.
ReplyDeleteI loved the LARPing episodes!
ReplyDeleteLARPing is very good. ;)
ReplyDeleteArgh. Keep reality out of SPN. No other show I watch does this. It's not my thing.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more.

ReplyDeleteIf it really is Charlie, then they are doing a remarkable job at keeping Felicia Day's return a secret. That will be big news.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely depends on the writer.

ReplyDeleteLet it be a meta episode, I LOVE meta episodes.

ReplyDeleteLARPing?hmm ... sounds Interesting! I like Meta episodes all of them. I really like time for a wedding and the real ghostbusters :)

ReplyDeleteI just don't. The episode name got me overexcited for more Felicia Day as Charlie! It was a (rush) blind guess from my side.
ReplyDeletePLEASE tell me Becky won't be making another appearance... I can handle this if she's not involved.
ReplyDelete..is time for dean became another person or form part of a different situation like the wedding episode
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge fan of meta/comedy. I usually skip those episodes when rewatching the series.
