Supernatural - 8.01 - We Need to Talk about Kevin - Podcast
9 Oct 2012
Podcast SupernaturalHi and welcome to the first season 8 episode of the Team Winchester Podcast. This is Lilith Hellfire's baby and she's letting me in on the ride. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Every week we will be discussing the new episode and we'll try to have it posted by Sunday night, technology willing. Each podcast will include spoilers but they are at the very end and there is a clear warning that goes off before we start it, so no one should be unduly spoiled if they don't want to be. Since Lilith and I come at Supernatural at a slightly different angle, we hope there is something everyone can agree with. Special thanks also to the lovely Airbat McFly for allowing us to use her fantastic poster. Love it!
As always, the comments are open for all things you disagree with or have a different interpretation on. Lilith and I both have strong opinions and we know not everyone will agree. Also, we welcome suggestions so feel free to add those in the comments too or contact us at any of the links at the end of the post. Thanks for listening and welcome to Supernatural season 8!

Hey guys, sorry this is a day late. We were experiencing technical difficulties. This is my first experience with podcasting so I very much appreciate Lilith letting me tag along. She does all the real work. Thanks also to Andy for letting us post here.
ReplyDeleteThe podcast is me a little less censored than I usually am on here and both Lilith and I have strong opinions, not always the same. We'd love to hear your opinions too. Feel free to tell us what you liked, didn't like, and what you think we're just crazy for thinking. Oh and we are looking for a major Cas fan to join us on a future podcast dedicated to Castiel to add that perspective too. Both Lilith and I are on Central Standard Time and record via Skype so if you're interested and it fits your schedule, let us know in the comments.
I am loving that poster!
ReplyDeleteThat's an Airbat McFly original. She has a ton of great work, many of which are duplicated on postcards and hanging in the Supernatural offices. You can find her at deviant art, tumblr, and Twitter:

Wow.. the poster is.. amazing. Why can't CW come up with something that cool in their promos?? Its always gotta be about sex or drama. This is perfect for our boys and where they are this season. A+
ReplyDeleteLove the poster.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if Sam's dog is called Riot or Rocket, different sources are saying different names?
I just finished listening my way through the podcast and I heartily enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteCompliments to you both.

It was very interesting and informative and I have to say I agree with everything that was said.
It's the first time I have taken the time to listen to a podcast about Supernatural so it was a new experience for me.
Thank you both for taking the time to produce it.
I will be on the lookout for the future ones.

My compliments also go to Airbat for the beautiful poster, which not only reflects the current season, but the intrinsic lightmess and darkness that has always characterized Supernatural and specifically each of the two Winchester brothers.
I myself have one of Airbat's creations as my screen-saver and I really love it- Sam, Dean and the Impala, what more can one ask for.!
Love the poster, but I can not get the deviantart link to work, tells me no such page.
ReplyDeleteListened to about half of it. Had to stop because I have work to do, but good job. I also know now that I've been mispronouncing Dahne's name in my head for about two years now.
ReplyDeleteOn the ratings, I have no numbers to back this up, but I have the impression that more people watch the debates than the State of the Union. When an election's coming up, it's almost your duty to listen to both sides before voting, whereas the speeches never say much.
On the Sam out of character thing, I posted some of this on a different thread, but I've watched this episode three times (first time in a while that I've wanted to watch an SPN episode three times), and I've been reading other fan comments and observations, and I'm convinced now there's something fishy going on with Sam. I'm going with a deal with Crowley. Not a sell your soul deal, but an agreement to look the other way to what Crowley was doing (with Kevin and probably other things related to the word of God) in exchange for Crowley orchestrating Dean's escape. If that's true though, that could lead to the question whether Benny is a Crowley plant. It would explain why Benny didn't want Cas coming along. It would also explain Sam's "Welcome back" comment. If he made a big sacrifice for Dean, even though he knows Dean doesn't know it, he's not going to appreciate Dean's tone.
I'm picking up a lot of sadness from Sam - more than I can attribute to him falling in love (which should be a happy thing). I think Sam had to do some things that went against his nature, and while he's happy to see Dean out, he's tired of the cycle of either Sam or Dean getting into trouble, and the other one having to do things that cost them a little bit of their soul to get them out. Plus, he found something better away from hunting, so he's sincere right now about wanting out.
The more I think about this episode, the more it feels like Exile on Main Street. Sam is so out of character, there has to be something else. And like Exile, I think this episode will be a lot easier to watch once we know why the characters are doing what they're doing. But I still agree that Amelia was written too bitchy and unprofessional. She might make up for it in the next episode - if we see her pain and she's apologetic for her behavior - so I'll wait and see on that one.
I've heard both. I'm wondering if one is the real dog's name and one is the TV name.
ReplyDeleteI was mispronouncing Dahne's name too in my head.
ReplyDeleteHey the poster is made by me. If you want a copy you can download it on my devianart page here : http://airbatmcfly.deviantart.com/#/d5hedt9
ReplyDeleteThanks for the credits!
ReplyDeleteThis is unrelated to the podcast, but Crowley makes a comment to Sam, "Still with the porkchops." Does anyone get that reference? I don't.
ReplyDeleteDo you sell ACEO cards on ebay?
ReplyDeleteThat is what his sideburns are called.

Thanks! I'd never heard that before.
ReplyDeletegreat work! I honestly thought it was an official...should have know better, CW doesn't invest that much in spn promo ;-)
ReplyDeleteRelayed your search for a Cas fan for the podcast through my twitter account ;-)
ReplyDeleteI would love to add the Cas-girl perspective, there's nothing greater than talking about Supernatural and the new episodes.
ReplyDeleteNO, I soley "work" for the fandom :-) I have high resolution pics to download on my devianart page. Feel free to use them! I want no money, all I'm asking for people to not take my work and sell them as their own, that's all.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually listen to podcasts cause I'm too stupid to keep my attention span on track without words or visuals, but I had to listen because I know I am not pronouncing her name right either! Ahhhh. I'm going to have to fix that in my head.
ReplyDeleteYou could do well by making the small cards to sell on ebay. A friend of mine did a Spike card that sold for almost $700.00, but his Supernatural cards were in the $35 range. He only sold originals and did not make copies. Your work is beautiful and look like they could be photographs.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nicole.
