SUNDAY 10/07/12 Metered Markets

Household
Rating/Share
CBS 9.1/14
NBC 9.0/14
ABC 4.8/ 8
Fox 3.4/ 5

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening (10/09/11):
Fox: +89, CBS: - 1, ABC: - 4, NBC: -16

----------

-Winners:
60 Minutes (CBS), Sunday Night Football (NBC)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
The Cleveland Show (Fox), Bob’s Burgers (Fox), 666 Park Avenue (ABC)

----------

-Rating Results:
Ignited by a 16.8 rating/29 share in the overnights for a half-hour primetime football overrun at 7 p.m., CBS inched past normally dominant NBC by one-tenth of a rating point. The Eye net’s regularly scheduled Sunday programming began at 7:30 p.m. with granddaddy 60 Minutes (#1: 11.6/19), followed by Emmy Award winner The Amazing Race (#2: 6.8/10), older-skewing The Good Wife (#2: 6.6/10) and relocated The Mentalist (#2: 6.2/11) from 8:30-11:30 p.m. Moving to Sunday was been costly for The Mentalist, which dipped by a hefty 28 percent from its year-ago performance on Thursday (8.6/14 on 10/06/11) and is no better than former time period occupant CSI: Miami.

On NBC, the San Diego Chargers at the New Orleans Saints on Sunday Night Football won the 8:30-11 p.m. block with an estimated 11.6/18 in the overnights. Earlier in the evening was pre-game Football Night in America at a 2.1/ 4 at 7 p.m. (#4), a 4.9/ 8 at 7:30 p.m. (#2) and a 7.4/12 at 8 p.m. (#2).

In season-premiere news, veteran America’s Funniest Home Videos on ABC opened with a distant second-place 3.7/ 6 in the overnights at 7 p.m., which dipped by seven percent from one year earlier (4.0/ 7 on 10/09/11). Next was Once Upon a Time at a third-place 6.2/ 9 at 8 p.m., which dropped by 14 percent from its week-ago season-opener (7.2/11 on Sept. 30), followed by relocated Revenge at a third-place 5.9/ 9. Comparably, Revenge was down by 12 percent week-to-week (versus a 6.7/10 on Sept. 30) and close to year-ago occupant Desperate Housewives (6.2/ 9 on 10/09/11), which at that time was a fading series.

In week two news, drama 666 Park Avenue on ABC slipped to a very distant third-place 3.7/ 6 at 10 p.m., which dropped by a hefty 30 percent from its series-opener (5.3/ 9 on Sept. 30) and 29 percent from short-lived year-ago occupant Pan Am (5.2/ 9 on 10/09/11). Since most new series drop in the vicinity of 10 to 20 percent in week two, this is severe.

The evening’s second season-premiere was animated The Cleveland Show on Fox at a fourth-place 2.7/ 4 at 7:30 p.m., which dipped from a repeat of lead-in The Simpsons (#3: 3.3/ 5 at 7 p.m.) by 18 percent. Next on Fox was the regularly scheduled edition of The Simpsons (#4: 4.1/ 6 at 8 p.m.), followed by Bob’s Burgers (#4: 2.9/ 4), Family Guy (#4: 4.1/ 6) and American Dad (#4: 3.2/ 5) from 8:30-10 p.m. The Fox animation is judged, of course, by the young adult demos. But outside of The Simpsons and Family Guy (which are both not the forces they once were), the night is lacking.

  3. I honestly don't like how who ever rights these ratings updates. "and close to year-ago occupant Desperate Housewives (6.2/ 9 on 10/09/11), which at that time was a fading series." unessesary comment

  4. how did football hurt OUaT? i mean, believe me, i hate football for all its negative effects on "real" tv, especially the delays, but OUaT also faced football last week, so i'm not really sure why it would make a difference this week.

  5. It was the season premiere, every premiere has better numbers. Last year football hurt OUAT too, but no much, as today

  6. I actually quite like 666 Park Ave, so disappointed with the ratings. I don't think it will be around for long if it stays that low.

  7. Ditto. You can always see the bias.

  9. Crap, 666 Park Avenue.

Still think OUAT did good, though, especially against football.

  10. Yes, I remember that guy from when he posted it on another site. I'd recognize that snarky take on the ratings anywhere. :P

  11. I had never payed attention to the Simpsons' ratings. Actually impressive after all these years... I just can't wrap my head around the fact that they are getting almost the same ratings in the 18-49 demo as OUaT, which is a superb show.

  13. Back to football hurting once upon a Time.It remains jewel of sunday night ABC timeslot. It had most viewers for scripted tv shows. The amazing race narrowly beat them for second In timeslot.
Family Guy nearly beat it for top scripted show. The simpsons continues to show It's strength in 18-48 demo.Revenge Is doing decently on sunday. It's 2.6 In demo Is very good.666 park avenue Is a goner.Only bob's burger did worse among total viewers. The only thing postive that can be said about 666 park avenue's ratings are It narrowly beat the mentalist In the demo and tied with
The good wife. The question Is will 666 Park avenue go off at midseason or does ABC keep It on till end of season.

  14. The Mentalist did so good on Thursdays, why the hell did they have to ruin it?

BTW can someone tell me untill when does this football stuff last? Because it seems to be ruining a lot of shows' ratings.

  15. Sucks about the mentalist it was suck a good episode. Please move the The Mentalist back to Thurs it used to get good ratings.

  16. I thought Once Upon a Time did pretty well being 3rd in the demo and total viewers for the night. Falling to a 3.3 in the demo isn't great, but it's still considered a pretty good rating imo. When I looked at Thursday night's ratings outcome, Once still looks pretty good. As far as I can tell, there are only a handful of shows that do better than Once in the demo, and I think Once is still top 10 in terms of total viewers.

I notice that I rarely agree with Marc Berman in his interpretations of how shows performed for the night in ratings. If Person of Interest, with a 3.1 demo in last Thursday's ratings, can be included in the "Winners" group; I would think Once, with their 3.3 tonight, should at least be considered "Honorable Mention".

  17. Ouch OUAT - quite a fall in the demo :(

  18. I dont see THE CLEVELAND show in the ratings sheet? Did you forget to put it in?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I agree about the Mentalist. Sunday at 10pm is a death slot. So unfair to put the show there.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeah last night's episode is one of my favorites through the whole series.

  21. Mentalist is doing crap on Sundays put it back on Thurs

  22. Yeah. That guy's a dick. I never like his take. Sometimes I don't understand how he comes to some of his conclusions.
