-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC ruled the overnights on this fourth Monday of the new TV season care of its combination of Dancing With the Stars (10.4 rating/16 share from 8-10 p.m.) and Castle (7.8/13 at 10 p.m.), which finished first in each of the six half hours. But facing The Voice on NBC has been costly, with the All-Star edition of Dancing With the Stars down by 19 percent from the year-ago evening (12.8/19 on 10/17/11). Castle was only off by five percent (versus an 8.2/14 on 10/17/11). At this point, Kirstie Alley or Bristol Palin should be exiting tonight.

NBC, no doubt, will win the evening among adults 18-49 thanks to The Voice, which averaged a solid second-place 8.1/12 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that outdelivered year-ago occupant The Sing Off (2.9/ 4 on 10/17/11) by a whopping 179 percent. At 10 p.m., week five of drama Revolution has apparently leveled off with a 5.3/ 9, which built by one-tenth of a rating point from one week earlier and should have no trouble winning the hour in the demo. An encore telecast of short-lived Prime Suspect averaged a mere 2.1/ 3 on the year-ago night and Revolution remains a vast improvement from short-lived The Playboy Club. Five-week overnight track for Revolution: 7.9/13 – 6.3/11 – 5.4/ 9 – 5.2/ 9 – 5.3/ 9.

Over at CBS, the year-to-year erosion was 26 percent last night. Week four of sitcom Partners at 8:30 p.m. perked up a bit to a 4.1/ 6 at 8:30 p.m. (tied for third with Game 2 of the National League Baseball Championship Series on Fox). But the erosion out of lead-in How I Met Your Mother (#3: 5.6/ 9 at 8 p.m., -18 percent from one year earlier) was an extensive 27 percent (in the higher HUT time period). Minus facing The Voice last year, former the period occupant 2 Broke Girls scored a 7.5/11 on 10/17/11, which was 83 percent higher than Partners. Four-week overnight track for Partners: 4.5/ 7 – 4.0/ 6 – 3.7/ 6 – 4.1/ 6).

Relocated 2 Broke Girls, meanwhile, continues to bleed from year-ago occupant Two and a Half Men (37 percent last night). But the third-place 6.4/ 9 at 9 p.m. was 56 percent above lead-in Partners, and lead-out Mike & Molly held 94 percent of the overnight rating with a 6.0/ 9 at 9:30 p.m. At 10 p.m., Hawaii Five-O finished second with a 5.9/10, which was 13 percent below one year earlier (6.8/11 on 10/17/11) but a compatible fit. Mike & Molly averaged a 7.4/11 one year earlier.

Elsewhere, Game 2 of the National League Baseball Championship Series on Fox (San Francisco Giants vs. St. Louis Cardinals) averaged an approximate 4.2/ 6 in primetime, which was 21 percent below the year-ago combination of dramas Terra Nova (5.2/ 8) and House (5.5/ 8) on 10/17/11. Keep in mind that results for any live sporting event are always estimated.

The CW capped off the evening with its low-rated combination of 90210 (#5: 0.9/ 1) and soon-to-conclude Gossip Girl (#5: 0.8/ 1), which on averaged dipped by 38 percent from Gossip Girl and Hart of Dixie one year earlier.

  1. Good news for Revolution. It seems that the show might stay steady with these numbers, wich are really, really good for NBC. Here hoping that the fact that it's a serialized 22 episodes show doesn't make it lose viewers by losing it's track; something like what happened to Fringe when they serialized the show... I don't know why, but i got this bad feeling about the serialized shows i watch since then... Kinda stupid, i know, but still... :S

Also, good news for Castle, it seems it maintein steady too... I'm new with this show and it's really fun and light to watch. It's great to see how ABC made sort of a franchise out of Castle with novels, coffe, e-books and comics... I'm not worried at all about this one; i believe we will have a 6th Season... Now a 7th? Well, that's really hard. One point is that almost their new shows(except Nashville) are breaking down, walking the road to certain cancellation. Next year we will have a LOT of new shows from ABC... That should be kinda cool.

If i have to take a very, very, veeeery long shot, i would say that we will have a 6th Season on Monday's night for the 2013-2014 and then a 7th and Final Season with ABC moving Castle to another day(Nashville being paired with DWTS on Mondays)for the 2014-2015, maybe to wednesday.

  4. How can Castle be adjusted down 0.4?! What the hell, the first states were a lousy job from someone:(
It´s still a good demo, and a lot of viewers, but this show deserves a lot better:)

  9. I know that:) What I meant is they first posted 2.4 and now it´s 2.:)
But still good, and still the most watched fictional show, with almost 10.900 viewers:)

  11. Are these final final ratings? Because if so, holy crap at castle once again dipping and hitting a 2.0 again. That just sucks, especially since I was so excited about the early estimate being 2.4 I hate revolution for nibbling at my favorite show, but I also blame ABC for putting such a crappy show as DTWS as a lead-in, let's face it, that show's getting tired and stale, and unfortunately lots of older ppl watch it.

  12. That´s the problem, Castle has a lot more viewers, but not in the ages available for demo:(
But I believe it will always be safe, it´s a show sold around the world (I ,f.e., am from Portugal, last month was in vacation in Spain and was being aired then, and I know it airs in Germany, France, Australia,...)!!
It´s a "making money" granted, and I believe that´s also important for ABC:)!!

  13. Wow, I never ever expected Revolution to be doing so well... I don't know, NBC monday curse or sth like it :) Well, I'm not watching the show, but congrats.

On Mondays I just really care about Castle, and even though I am not thrilled about the 2.0, I guess it is ok if it is enough to keep it on the air and with a decent budget (still have bad memories from the Chuck good-writers-exodus).

ps.: I had no idea that 2 Broke Girls had higher ratings than HIMYM nowadays.

  14. I have to say as much as I like actually getting to
watch my team play now, I can’t help but feel a little sorry for Fox. I
know they can’t help it because of their deal, but I bet they’re
wishing they could show Bones instead.

And in all honesty, I’m more than a little surprised that the ratings are so low.

  18. Yay for Revolution! I was so worried it would continue to drop, but now it seems to have stabilized and it's doing really well, especially demo! 3.4 is great! I hope it keeps it up and gets a S2.

  19. I think Castle is OK, nothing to worry about! And, well, I´m portuguese, so can't do much from here. If you guys are worried, watch it please!! It's one of the best shows on tv! Revolution was a surprise for me, I'm loving it.

  20. Down in rating, but up in number of viewers:)

  21. Low Castle demo but I think as long as overall viewers are strong, it should be okay. I think unless a show's demo goes REALLY low, low demo won't doom it if the overall numbers are good. I think Dancing's downfall is hurting it. Castle needs a better lead-in.

  22. Eh, I was hoping Castle would do a little better in demo. These still are quite good numbers but it's strange that this show is doing so well with total number of viewers and not so good in demo. I don't really see a reason why that is. It seems very popular here over the internet.
I'm from Poland so it doesn't really matter for the ratings but over the summer I convinced my sister and friend to start watching Castle and they both love it now. They're 22 ans 25 years old, perfect age. Also Castle is only the third show(after Bones and House) I'm willing to get up at 4 am and watch live. So I hope it gets better and Americans will watch it.
