Loved it! Kudos to the showrunners for killing off a lead character!
I know it is unpopular among many (if not most) fans, but if killing a character moves the story forward or moves a personal arc forward it is a necessary act. More shows should show the same courage instead of the myriad of miraculous near death escapes or worse yet, the reincarnations or return from the "dead".
This season has been dark, darker than Season 1 I think. It needed to have a finale with gravity to it, something big had to happen. Not some explosion where half the cast was hurt but lived, not some plot twist.... Something with real weight. Killing off Lily accomplished that in a way that just the burning of the railroad would not have.
That said, I always enjoyed the performance of Dominique McElligott and liked the role of Lily itself. She will be missed.
Some seriously brilliant performances in the season but in this finale in particular. Christopher Heyedahl was disturbingly brilliant as his more disturbed alter-ego the White Spirit. Common and Anson Mount have really taken over their roles as well. Playing pain and anguish can be difficult to make believable, but Colm Meaney did a nice job struggling with his wounds... All around just some great performances to me.
That was one of the better finales I have seen in a long while. The series has really grown into itself and gotten better and better. I'm looking forward to Season 3!!!
Totally agree with everyone's feedback on killing Lily. She and Cullen were the main reasons I watched the show. If there's a season 3, I recommend her twin sister show up to investigate her murder and she and Cullen butt heads -- for awhile.
This is bullshit. I'm torn apart because the show's so good and I have waited for Cullen and Lily get together and the second they do they kill Lily off... I know I won't like anyone who'd replace her now. People say it'll change Cullen... Jesus, how much he can take? Unless she's back by some miracle I'm doubting I'll watch season 3. I mean, seriously. Mad as hell.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Killing Lilly was bullshit
ReplyDeleteyou're right, she was a great deal to the show...

ReplyDeleteDancing Swede was awesome, walking-with-no-handcuffs-on-the-bridge Swede was ridiculous. Nuff said.
ReplyDeleteUnless Lily is back by some miracle, I'm never watching this again. Even though Anson Mount is hot as hell.
