Wade talking to his father about Zoe all the time is cute, especially considering that the relationship with his old man is strained at best. Zoe looked incredibly pleased about that.
This episode was great! I loved the Wade/Zoe scenes as always, it was so adorable when they went to see Crazy Earl and the last scene. Lemon got game! - it's sad that she isn't ready to move on yet (that guy was super hot lol) she's definitely become a lot more like able in season 2. Yay I can't wait for the election and for Ruby to leave, I liked her to begin with but now .. mehh.
This is a much better episode, even when I really loved the first two anyways.
- Although Zoe's desperate attempt to show that she's successful is a bit silly, but they ended it very well. I mean, even a bit douche-ey, Wade has given one of the most accurate and straight-to-the-point pearl of wisdom I have ever heard from him. The final scene made my heart bloom.
- Lemon is lovely and I love seeing her being competitive. I laughed out loud throughout the entire scene of her with Ruby trying to get the attention of that hot dentist. And yes, Lemon and Lavon need to beat Ruby in the mayor race!! I can't wait for the episode when the race happens.
- And I applauded George and Dr. Breeland's (I mean, their characters as I don't remember their names) acting. My heart broke when George confessed that he felt that Dr. Breeland was like a father and Dr. Breeland confessed that he was sad of losing George because he was like a son to him. The resolution couldn't go more perfectly.
- And I LOVE Tom's C-storyline in this episode. I'm actually surprised that he hasn't had sex yet. I think Tom is a potential character is it is comedic and he could play sad nerd very well too.
- On that note, I love that case-of-the-week is back in this episode. I remember the first half of season 1 when Zoe had to deal with different patient with different condition in each episode, although the series is still very nice, but I wish they maintain that kind of format. I hope there'll be more case-of-the-weeks in the future episodes!
1) Lavon. Listen close, peeps, Lavon is the BEST. He knows his town and he keeps it running smoooooth. He's not just a dumb jock, he's the BEST.
2) Ruby is a bona fide 'bama biotch. But luckily, I don't have to keep trying to like her as Zoe's female BFF. Phew! Because she is an excellent adversary for Lemon and for Lavon. I love the outlet for Lemon's mean girl skills AND her getting a chance to team up with Lavon AND her finding her feet as an independent woman. So many things to love in a girl that I hate.
3) Lemon and her belles. Annabeth is just fantastic, funny, supportive, practical. Cricket is hilarious, but my favorite part might be how Lemon says her name half-pity/half-reprimand. I laugh every time.
4) George's daddy issues. George and Brick have got a lot of angst to settle, and we're awfully lucky southern gentlemen stopped dueling at dawn, 'cause Brick was one glove slap away from pistols at the plantation. George did the upstanding thing letting Lemon hear about his date firsthand (would you expect anything less?) but he didn't succeed as well with his offers to reimburse Brick. Money wasn't what Brick was after, he was still heartbroken his adopted son decided to stick with his "real" parents. Poor Brick, George's dad is a pretty big jerk, so loosing to him has to be a blow to prideful Brick's ego.
5) BlueBell's Oddballs. From anxious Tom to crazy Earl, Bluebell's cast of townies delivered in their quirky, snappy way. I'm gonna throw George's bubbly date in here too, because she fit right in with her sunny disposition and sharp one-liners. I loved Crazy Earl and his outing Wade to Zoe, but also his yen for a variable-speed juicer. Who knew Crazy Earl would be the healthiest eater in Bluebell?
6) Wade's grown-up speech that just happened to be about video games. (Was there ever any question it'd top the list?) Zoe needed a sharp smack of reality and I, for one, needed a nice long hit of grownup, serious Wade again. The sexually confident but emotionally insecure jerk of the past few episodes was gone, save for the gratuitous painting/singing/grinning cold open (wouldn't get rid of that for the world). He held a mirror up to our girl Zoe and said just what she needed to hear, and I for one saw a tiny reflection myself. He was right on target and Zoe took it to heart. Maybe her new picture includes a little strip Halo 2 or maybe she still needs some ambition in her life. But at least her eyes are open to the fact that she needs to start making choices based on her new world view not just her old-school New York ideal.
All round this was a fantastic episode and I am just thrilled with the quality of writing and emotional depth of all our characters. Even though the triangle is going strong, and I did tense up when Zoe ran into George in the town square, they didn't beat us over the head with the "you will Zoe choose." Everybody is growing and learning some independence instead of being defined by relationship or profession. I can't wait for next week. If only the ratings were better.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteLooooooved it!
ReplyDeleteJust a small declaration: Scenes like Wade's speech at the practice and that final scene is why Zoe/Wade work.

ReplyDeleteThough I get why he has been acting the way he HAS been acting, I agree, it was lovely to see him go back to normal.
ReplyDeleteOh, they're totally handling Lemon excellently this season. I really think they took all the criticism to heart.

@twitter-302023864:disqus Thank you for your great comments. I pretty much agree with everything you said.
ReplyDeleteWade should never put a shirt on.
