I'm calling yesterday's poll early because I won't be here to see the close. Changing Channels is winning by a landslide so Simon Said is out. Jus in Bello should maintain the lead so goodbye Croatoan. I would be sad about these results no matter what episode lost. They are all Supernatural at its finest. Today, not so much for me but I know others really love these. Happy voting and don't forget to nominate your favorite quotes from Metamorphosis too.

The Born-Again Identity was by far the biggest episode disappointment for me in season 7. I Know what You Did Last Summer wins my vote by default. The Girl with the D & D Tattoo made me laugh and introduced Charlie. The Monster at the End of This Book made me cringe and introduced Chuck who introduced Becky. This one is a no-brainer for me.
ReplyDeleteThis is driving me crazy, as many times as I have watched each ep and can not remember what ep this voice over came from: I'm Dean Winchester and this is my brother, Sam. Anyone know?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-f2-1X3v9k
Man, while I loved Jus in Bello, I'm feeling sad to lose Croatoan! Such a powerful and meaningful episode!
ReplyDeleteToday's poll:
I don't count either episode in this first match-up as ones I particularly like all that much. They aren't among my worst-ever, but I won't watch either of these episodes unless I am doing a complete series watch. That being said, I voted for "I Know What You Did Last Summer" because by the time The Born-Again Identity aired I was so sick of the "Castiel Return's" fervor online I wanted to puke and it really tainted my view on this episode. THEN, when it aired, I found it to be so stuffed with STUFF, and unfulfilling in many, many ways (it would have worked SO MUCH BETTER AS A TWO-PARTER!!!). So, while I would have rather of seen more of Sam's summer without Dean, I'm glad we finally saw *some* of what he went through while Dean was in hell, thus, voting for Summer.
Second poll was mildly more difficult. I liked both episodes, and enjoyed them, and will watch them. But I ended up voting for The Monster at the End of this Book, because I loved Chuck's intro, I loved the SPN-book premise, I loved the guys flashing their tattoo's, I just enjoyed this one a whole lot. I did love Charlie and Girl with the D&D Tattoo (I mean, it had some friggin' awesome scene-chewing by James Patrick Stuart, too!), but the guys had a significantly reduced role in that episode, which was the ultimate reason I voted for Monster. I like both these episodes pretty much equally. I'll be okay with whichever one wins this second poll.
I loved I know what you did last summer and will go with The Girl with the D & D tattoo also.
ReplyDeletepretty sure (96.7% sure) that's from The Monster at the End of This Book, when Dean says to Chuck, "Nice to meet you I'm Dean Winchester and this my brother, Sam."
ReplyDeletehaha! I concur with your reasoning on the first poll.
ReplyDeleteand I don't blame Chuck for Becky, I blame them there writers! lol. But, I also like Chuck so... :D
Yeah, I think you are right, they are standing by the car and Chuck says he never put the last name in the books. Will watch it again tomorrow but I'm with your 96.7%. lol
ReplyDeleteEasy choices for me today. I Know What You Did and Monster at the End of This Book. I liked Borne-Again, but the episode was trying to do too much, and in the end, nothing really left a lasting impression. On the other hand, with IKWYDLS we got to see emotional, drunk, and desperate Sam (with good hair). I miss emotional Sam. I also loved Anna in this episode.
ReplyDeleteI picked Monster because I think it's one of those classic SPN episodes that has a little bit of everything. Chuck was awesome. He was funny not because he was an absurd character, but because he was a normal character in an absurd situation. The META was great. We got a tease of bad Sam getting dirty with Lilith. We got a great Cas/Dean scene. And best of all - watched Sam and Dean do their laundry. The Girl was good and one of the better episodes of season 7, but just average when compared with episodes from the prior seasons. It had a couple of funny moments, but it wasn't a classic.
I do not like The Born-Again Identity but I dislike I Know What You Did Last Summer, soo much more so. Monster at the End of This Book is a SPN classic for me because I LOVE meta episodes (well almost all of them).
ReplyDeleteyes!
ReplyDeletelol :D
1. The Born-Again Identity- purely because I loved Castiel's return and interaction with Dean. Him taking Sam's hallucinations away. Also loved seeing hallucination Lucifer, though in this one he got annoying at the part with the... was it a firework? Plus, ghost Bobby helped Dean find "the healer". Plus, I may be in a minority, but I like Rachel Miner's Meg.
ReplyDeleteI Know What You Did Last Summer was good but ah, not that big on Anna or Ruby.
Castiel's return should be my favorite, easy, but The Born-Again Identity was doing to much. It should have only focused on Castiel's return, and on Dean's reaction to that, but they had to throw in Sam's wall crumbling, and him helping put down a ghost.... The show was half about Dean And Cas, and half about Sam.
ReplyDeleteThe second choice was harder, I loved The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo and Felicia Day's guest starring. Her character was cool and I liked her role in the episode. Yet... The Monster at the End of This Book is funny, I loved how Cas told Dean about the Archangel, like he couldn't let him down, and I feel in love with Chuck immediately.
the first poll a tie a good one and amazing
ReplyDeleteThe Born Again Identity and The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo
ReplyDeleteB-AI should have been a power hitting episode at a gut level. Instead we got 12 plots each getting 3 minutes time and nothing was satisfying. I was royally ticked off by its end what with amnesiac Cas and the poof Sam's better story line. Heck I was even scared for Sam like I should have been given he was well enough to pursue a hunt on his own and take out a ghost. Not the actions of a this close to dying man. The only thing in season 7 that comes close to my frustration level in this episode was the seemingly unending Amy subplot.
ReplyDeleteI agree that B-AI should have been a 2 parter. They had two main story lines and neither one got the time I thought it would.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree on every count.
ReplyDeleteSam's struggles with Lucifer should have been at least two episodes in and of themselves, if not more (and I mean his struggles while he's in the asylum). As you said above, I was never in any fear for his life either. So disappointing because it could have been sooooo good. :(
ReplyDeleteAgreed. They needed to consistently build up Sam's growing desperation and failing health. Instead we got a seemingly fine Sam for most of the season and then they blindsided us with Sam's imminent death even though he seemed okay 3 weeks earlier. It came off feeling cheap, like they didn't know where to go with the story line and so used another angel instafix so they could move on. Definitely spoiled the potential.
ReplyDeleteGenerally very little surprises me in these polls after doing them for 2 years. However, I am shocked that TMatEotB is beating TGwtD&DT so badly. I predicted the latter to win this round.
ReplyDeleteAlthough "I Know What You Did last Summer" is not one of my favourite episodes, it has some redeeming points.
ReplyDeleteIt was very interesting to hear Sam's point of view on what he was feeling and going through when Dean was in Hell. It's one of the few episodes that give us such insights into his mind-set.
Then I loved their double jump through the Church window, and seeing them tend their own and each other's wounds; and of course it was so nice to see Sam confiding the whole Ruby story-line to his brother. It gets my vote.
The BAI did Sam a great disservice taking away his Hell Memories in such a predictable fashion, something that the majority of posters had said would happen even before the episode aired.

Although meta episodes are my nemesis, in TMATEOTB there were some scenes that I enjoyed. I especially liked the scene between Sam and Chuck where again we get to hear from Sam himself what he is trying to do; why he is with Ruby and why he is drinking the demon blood.
Then I loved the scene in which Dean wanted to drag Sam away from the Motel room before Lilith arrived and Sam stubbornly refused to move, so Dean picks up his duffle as if he is going away on his own but then he throws it back down in defeat, well conscious of the fact that he will never leave his brother on his own to confront Lilith.
The other episode like many others in season seven, gets guest stars in to do the jobs that the brothers could easily do themselves, something I don't like, so I vote for TMATEOTB.
Have to tell a funny story about the brothers tending their wounds. I was out mowing and cut my arm really bad, but since I had just opened a gate to mow around a pond I finished mowing with blood dripping. Figured heck the Winchesters would do that. Telling a friend that is also a SPN fan about my thought and she said "did you sew it up yourself also". LOL That scene with Sam sewing his arm almost made me sick to my stomach, it was so real looking.
ReplyDeletethe first poll continue be too tight both are amazing episode anyone deserve to win
ReplyDeleteLoL. Poor you. I get weak-kneed at the first sight of blood. I'm definitely not nurse material; as for sewing up, that's even worse!
ReplyDeleteHowever if it happens again remember that the Winchesters are practically invulnerable, us poor normal mortals, no! :)
Yes, the scene with the sewing up was very realistic. Did Sam have a similar one in Mystery Spot or is my memory betraying me?
Dean: Sam loves research. He does. He keeps it under his mattress with his KY.
ReplyDeleteX
Sam: It's just something I got to deal with.
Dean: Not alone.

I singled out these two quotes as they are they aren't too depressing in an episode which I find to be very down-heartening. There are very few optimistic moments, and I must say I felt really sorry for the rugaru. The older hunter pushed him into monster mode by threatening his wife and it was sad to see Sam so unhappy that he couldn't save him.
I think your memory is correct, it was after Dean was "dead" and Sam was hunting Trickster.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind nursing animals, but could never do humans and it is not the blood that bothers me, I just like animals better. ;)
I have no idea what to vote in the first poll.Have to give it some thought.
ReplyDeleteThe Monster at the End of This Book in the second poll. Both episodes are great but I like this one a little better.
Dean: "Do you know how far off the reservation you've gone? How far from normal, from human?"
Sam: "I'm just exorcising demons."
Dean: "With your mind!"
Sam: "I'm not gonna let it go to far."
Dean: "It's already gone to far Sam.If I didn't know you,I'd wanna hunt you.And so would other hunters."
Sam: "You were gone.I was here.I had to keep fighting without you.And what I'm doing,it works."
we actually see Sam dig out a bullet and sew himself up in Myster Spot if my memory serves me correctly.
ReplyDeleteRight, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI thought so but I wasn't quite sure if I was seeing two for the price of one.
The sewing-up scene is very well done in both episodes then.
Kudos to the special effects team. :)
I always love when the brothers do things in tandem and jumping out the church window was awesome. One of of the big stunt scenes that always pops in my head first.
ReplyDeleteYikes! Perhaps this time being a Winchester watcher did you a disservice. Love your friend's reaction though. It made me laugh.
ReplyDeleteYou're preaching to the choir here. :)
ReplyDeleteOne should have a go at making a Top Ten of the brotherly synchronised moments, from closing the impala doors together, to answering a question together, to sitting down on park benches together, etc.
Hmm, I wonder if there are at least ten actions that they perform together?
I Know What You Did Last Summer
ReplyDeleteThe Monster at the End of This Book
i just wash it out, pulled the skin in place and held it with tape..I am tough. LOL Has healed fine, even though one of my sons came by the house and thought I should go to the ER. I raised a wimp that does not watch SPN. ;)
ReplyDeleteMetamorphosis is one of my least favorite episodes. There's not much at all to recommend it including the quotes. Plus there's a dearth of snark. That's a crime in a SPN episode.
ReplyDeleteMetamorphosis Quotes:
12. Dean: "That what Ruby wants you to think. Huh? Kind of like the way she tricked you into using your powers. Slippery slope brother. Just wait and see. Cause it's going to get darker and darker and God knows where it ends."11. Dean: "What else can you do?" Sam: "I told you." Dean: "And I have every reason in the world to believe that." 10. Dean: "You're probably feeling your bones move under your skin and your appetite's reaching uh you know Hungry, Hungry Hippo levels. How am I doing so far?" Jack: "Who the hell are you guys?" Dean: "We're people who know a little something about something." Sam: "We're people who can help."9. Sam: "I've got demon blood in me Dean. This disease pumping through my veins and I can't ever rip it out or scrub it clean. I'm a whole new level of freak and I'm just trying to take this…this curse and make something good out of it. Because I have to."8. Dean: "Cas said that if I don't stop you, he will. See what that means Sam…that means that God doesn't want you doing this. So are you just going to stand there and tell me that everything is all good?"8. Dean: "So fire huh?" Travis: "The only way I've found to kill them these b**. Deep fry them." Dean: "Well that's going to be…horrible."7. Sam: "Ruby stop it." Dean: "Well aren't you an obedient little b**." 6. Dean: "So. Anything you want to tell me Sam?" Sam: "Dean, hold on okay. Just let me…" Dean: "You gonna say let me explain? You can explain this. How about this - why don't you start with who she is and what the hell is she doing here?"5. Dean: "Do you even know how far off the reservation you've gone? How far from normal, from human."4. Dean: "A rugaru. Is that made up? That sounds made up."3. Dean: "Long pig?" Sam: "He means human flesh." Dean: "And that is my word of the day."2. Dean: "It's already gone too far Sam. If I didn't know you, I would want to hunt you and so would other hunters."1. Dean: "Alright well I've seen little weird, big weird, weird with crazy on top, but this guy? I mean come on. This guy's boring."
You are tougher than me. I very rarely go to the doctor much less a hospital but I think I would make an exception for gushing blood.
ReplyDeleteOh definitely more than 10. There's flashing id's in tandem too. One of my favorite small moments in the Pilot was when they said the same thing at the same time. It was our first glimpse of exactly how close they had been at one time.
ReplyDeleteWhile I didn't feel sorry for the rugaru, I didn't think much of Travis either. All in all, the entire episode is depressing and unlike most epius there wasn't much delightful snark to break up the emoangsting.
ReplyDeleteThat whole scene in Metamorphosis was intense. I knew it was going to be a hard episode to get through from these quotes on. Pretty hard season for me to get through to be honest.
ReplyDeleteI've now put it off for over 2 months but I can no longer avoid watching After School Special for our quotes hunt. The things I do for Supernatural. (Big sigh.)
ReplyDeleteRight, that was when they answered the two girls in the diner, if i'm not mistaken. A lovely moment. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's not so bad. Little Sammy is so cute that he makes up for all the rest. :)
ReplyDeleteNothing - absolutely nothing - makes up for the terrible writing and acting in this episode. I dread it. Even if I love Colin Ford as Sam.
ReplyDeleteOh I agree, I love Colin but even he could not save this ep and I don't watch it very often. I feel your pain. ;)
ReplyDeleteTough choices and all quality episodes today!
ReplyDeleteI loved The Born Again Identity, even though I was skeptical about Cas's return. But when it actually happened... dunno, kind of reminded me how much I loved him. The scene where he kills the demons and gets his memories back gave me shivers. Also loved how he sacrificed himself to save Sam. Redemption completed. Also liked the Kevin storyline. Overall, a strong episode I liked more than I thought I would before it aired.
I Know What You Did Last Summer is good stuff as well, though. Loved the Anna storyline and it introduced Alastair. Not a particular fan of Sam's confessions about him and Ruby, though.
In the end my vote goes to The Born Again Identity, which actually makes the poll a tie :P
The second poll is even harder. I really love both episodes. The Girl is totally not in SPN's style, but somehow it makes it even more interesting. Also because I feel Charlie is the main character of the episode, not Sam and Dean, and it doesn't even bother me and normally it would. TMatEotB on the other hand is a great meta and always gives me several good laugh moments. Gonna have to think a little more about this one. Or maybe I will just vote for the one currently losing...
I know what you did last sumer
ReplyDeleteThe Monster at the End of This Book
Summer may not be one of my major favs but it was an derned good arc ep. As far as deep cover agents go...Ruby was pretty good.
I just loved Monster at the End of this Book...Everything about it
I hate hospitals, mostly because I never need to go in less I'm getting shots, which even past childhood is still a nightmare for me, or a family member is really sick.
ReplyDeleteI think I've only gone a couple times in my life for a check-up that did not involve anything unpleasant (AKA shots).
But if I'm bleeding bad I'd go.
You think Cas' redemption is complete? Wow! Not even the most ardent Cas fans I know think that. I would say it was a small step on the road to redemption.
ReplyDeleteI've only had stitches once and it wasn't too bad at all. Of course I didn't have many. I also have a decent tolerance for pain. Mine's more that I know what my sewing looked like in 7th grade Home Ec and it hasn't improved since then. Plus possibly fainting from blood loss doesn't sound like fun.
ReplyDeleteI think Cas has a long way to go with Dean before all is forgiven. I love Cas, and he did a lot of good things, but wow when he went off the rails he messed up big time. Helping Sam was a big step in the right direction, but will be surprised if that was the end of it.
ReplyDeleteJust so you guys know I was not pumping blood out, it could have used a few stitches, but the tape did the job and all is well. lol I did have to not take any baby squirrels in until it healed, just knew I would get a toenail in it..that is the way my luck runs.
ReplyDeleteCas was the one that pulled down Sam's wall in the first place, so at most he has only repaired the damage that he himself had caused.
ReplyDeleteHowever Cas still has interest to pay on what he did to Sam to compensate him for the months of suffering he underwent with the mind-splitting Lucifer hallucinations, which also brought him near to death.
I'm just glad you and your arm are alright.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's when they say, "What do they talk about?" I particularly like it because 1. It's the first time they do anything in tandem and 2. because before that they were awkward in the interviewing and getting in each other's way. Speaking in tandem showed what they were like and that they were subconsciously in sync even if they weren't quite there yet.
ReplyDeleteIn previous seasons the boys (Dean especially) were crossing the line with taking Cas and his help for granted. I don't like how people forget everything he did for them before the wall. Right now Dean has been giving the guy such a hard time for so long I can't help but feel for him, especially now that he's insane and vulnerable. Yes, what he did with Sam's wall was terribly wrong and probably unforgivable, but at the end of the day, I'm not gonna forget how he gave away and lost everything he's ever had in the name of the friendship he had with the Winchesters. In my book he is redeemed, which might be weird, cause as much as I love him, I will always love the boys more. But knowing how the boys never really appreciated him when he didn't make stupid mistakes, I just feel sorry for him seing how people hate on him for that one bad choice. And Sam himself in his sweet forgiving nature seems to have fogiven him already. It's gonna take more time with Dean. With me not so much.
ReplyDeleteI remember one time Dean called for Cas and he came and I don't remember what Dean wanted, but Cas said something like, of course your needs always come first..Dean just blew him off. Like you, there were many times I felt Dean took Cas for granted, in fact more often than not. After Sam and Dean, Cas is my favorite character.
ReplyDeleteGonna weigh in here against my better judgment.
ReplyDeleteFor the crashing of Sam's wall, there are two people Cas needs to make it up to. First, there's Sam - the direct recipient of the damage. Cas did what he could to take away Sam's pain, so in this case it comes down to whether Sam has forgiven him, and it appears Sam has. I'm not convinced Sam should have forgiven him yet. It's not that Sam wouldn't have had reasons to empathize, or that Sam isn't a forgiving person, but aside from the hurt caused, there was a betrayal of a friendship with Sam too. Sam and Cas weren't as close as Dean and Cas, but Sam considered Cas a friend and trusted him. We didn't see much reaction from Sam in season 7 (surprise, surprise), but I'd like to see some followup in that area.
Second, there's the relationship with Dean. In this case the injury is 100% betrayal of the friendship, rather than actual damage inflicted on Dean, but I tend to agree with your points here. A friendship should go two ways, and that's not what we saw in season 6. We've since seen Cas take responsibility for hurting Dean, and try to make amends for it. What we haven't seen yet is Dean take any responsibility for his part in all of this - by realizing that when friends disappoint, he can't just turn his back on them and still call it a friendship. He sometimes has to show faith in the person and back them after they've erred - just because they're a friend or family. Bobby's speech to Dean that you don't turn your back on family obviously still hasn't sunk in yet.
But the third thing that Cas needed to be redeemed for is the damage he's done to the other angels and to the humans who were hurt by his actions. This is what I'd like to see Cas's redemption focus on in the future. A lot of angels trusted Cas to lead them, and he became corrupted and got into a deal that, judging by Rachel's and Balthazar's reactions, the angels would have seen as a betrayal. Cas's actions led to the decimation of his own kind as well of the murder of his friends Balthazar and Rachel. There were also the humans he killed when he was God. These, and whatever other consequences resulted from his actions, are the big things he needs to concentrate on now in trying to make things right.
This is what I detest about the insane Cas cop out the writers pulled. Dean is not allowed to be vocally mad at Cas for his decisions, including his tearing down Sam's wall. When he even hints at his anger, he is considered the bad guy because poor Cas is crazy and can't be held accountable for his decisions. It's like when someone you love commits suicide and you are angry about that choice but you're not allowed by society to express that anger because after all the person is dead and you don't speak ill of the dead. By not being able to communicate how you feel and societal pressure making you think that you are the bad person for feeling that way just makes everything much, much worse.
ReplyDeleteI actually love your points and way of thinking and overall agree with you. Maybe I shouldn't have said the redemption was completed, now that I've read your last paragraph. It's just for me redemption towards the boys is more or less done. Sam is now fine (yes, I agree we need to know more about how he feels about all this) and Dean really should consider how a real friendship works. The redemption towards the world is still to be done, I agree with you on this one.
ReplyDelete
