Thanks to Jimmx for the poll suggestion.
Recently Steven Moffat said this about the possibility of a female doctor.
"Attitudes to that idea have been changing," he said. "It is a part of Time Lord lore that it can happen - a Time Lord could potentially turn into a woman. The more often it's talked about, the more likely it is to happen someday, I suppose."
So would you like to see a female Doctor? And if so who would you cast as the female Doctor?
Sound off in the comments.

Yep. And she has to be ginger so that's covered, too.
ReplyDeleteHell yes.
ReplyDeleteI think Dawn French would make a good Doctor
Just imagine Helena Bonham Carter being the new Doctor! Ah, impossible but it'd be great!
ReplyDeleteWell if Moffat is behind her,why not? could be interesting.
ReplyDeleteAw, i'd love that :P.
ReplyDeleteHow about Amanda Tapping as the Doctor?
ReplyDeleteYes of course and the really inovation should be to have a female companion, a female/female relationship should be a real change. And i indulge a little fantasy of mine, i would love Naya Rivera, sexy doctor.
ReplyDeleteCall me sexist, but no. The doctor has such a presence, I couldn't think of any female actress that could do that and convince me it's still the doctor. It would be weird for a while for sure. Why don't they do a black doctor first?
ReplyDeleteHaha Dawn French definitely please.... heck, let's have a female Bond too!
ReplyDeleteNo, because the Doctor always identified himself as male. He brought up one time lord who liked being both and found him/her sweet so he isn't adverse to the idea of a sex change but he personally never felt the need or desire because identified himself always, always as male. So I don't see the need to take away the self-identification of a character to be more PC. It would feel forced to me.
ReplyDeleteNo the doctor has always been a man and it would just be too weird for me for him to see that change. Also he has to have an English or British Isles accent, sorry but even though he is an alien he would just sound wrong with a foreign accent. And yes I know after almost 50 years I am stuck in my ways!!!
ReplyDeleteLol please like Moffat is ever going to make that happen. I wish.
ReplyDeleteHe's a sexist asshole and the fact that people still compliment him for his "strong" female characters that supposedly embody feminism is just crazy to me.
Helen Mirren. Enough Said.
ReplyDeleteThe people saying "yes" are idiots. The people saying "Dawn French" are absolute retards.
ReplyDelete@facebook-575952473:disqus And you sir, are now banned. Idiot.
ReplyDeleteI wouldnt.
ReplyDeletePersonally I dont think it'll happen, and would rather it didnt. I'd probably watch the show if it did happen though. I'm not sure where the talk of a female Doctor has spawned from. Was it floated before Who came back in 2005? Even during Tennant's reign as the Doctor few people thought about the Doctor being female, on when he announced his exit did it occur.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure more people would rather the next Doctor to be male than female (going beyond the poll on this page).
Uh...I mean, not that it wouldnt be good and all.But what would happen to River? Cuz,y'know, they're married.
ReplyDeleteIt would be too strange, but I would like to see Jenny again.
ReplyDeleteI always found strange than the Doctor and all the companions are British.
ReplyDeleteI like AT but after Sanctuary, please no. Her British accent is absolutely awful. The Doctor needs an actor with a real British accent. Male or female matters not to me. Real accent does. ;)
ReplyDeleteI think it might be interesting. The Tardis incarnation kind of gave me a feel that it could be successful. Are Timelords singlel gender? I suppose they wouldn't strictly have to be.
ReplyDeleteI have a vague memory of hearing the idea floated long before the 2005 incarnation. I think it was talk of fanfic back when I went to cons.
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely. Given the right premise and the right actress it could be fantastic.
ReplyDeleteIn the Doctor's Wife episode you refer to, when the Doctor receives the beacon he says "See that snake? The mark of the Corsair. Fantastic bloke. He had that
ReplyDeletesnake as a tattoo in every regeneration. Didn't feel like himself
without the tattoo. Or herself, a couple of times. Ooh, she was a bad
girl!". So it's certainly possible.
It hasn't been established whether a change in sex during reincarnation is something that can be controlled any more than than their physical appearance..
Ah yes! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI've seen a gender swap thing on tumblr before (that of course I can't find now) with Cate Blanchett as the doctor. How brilliant would she be?! Unfortunately, I think it will be awhile before a female doctor is a real possibility. Even a non-white male doctor would be a nice change.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that would matter to either of them really.
ReplyDeleteYes though I feel River has put off such an option for a while.
ReplyDeleteMoffat's already had Joanna Lumley play the Doctor in a spoof he wrote years ago for the BBC. It's a shame that she never had a chance to take the role on properly, I think she would have been fantastic. Unfortunately I don't think she could handle the brutal schedule the show requires, I'd totally be behind someone like her as a female Doctor.
ReplyDeleteI'd say the show is fairly liberally minded. There's even a Homo Reptillian and Homo Sapian lesbian couple =)
ReplyDeleteDepends on who plays her.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Natalia Tena could play the role. She not too famous, but she's recognizable.
ReplyDeleteNot saying that the show wouldn't do it,I mean...Jack Harkness. But when your husband suddenly turns into a chick, most people don't just shrug it off and say 'whatever'.Besides, would the Doctor be a gay woman? Or does his sexuality change too? I don't know, just feels a bit too confusing.I rather keep things as they are.
ReplyDeleteI suppose they can have a female doctor version after River dies in the future ("saved" in the Library episode with 10th Doctor)
ReplyDeleteWonderful, as long as it's Helen Mirren!
ReplyDeletePreach it!
