Bates Motel - Vera Farmiga joins cast

27 Aug 2012

A&E's upcoming series Bates Motel has found a mother for young Norman Bates — and this time it's not a skeleton in a wig. Vera Farmiga, who carried on a salacious affair with George Clooney in 2009's Up in the Air, will play Norma Louise Bates.

"We are delighted to welcome Vera Farmiga to Bates Motel," says executive producer Carlton Cuse (of Lost fame). "She is a phenomenal talent who has demonstrated incredible range and intelligence in a number of landmark film roles, and we couldn't be more excited to have her join our project."

  1. She is a good actress, but I haven't heard about the series and am a bit skeptical about yet another rehash...

  2. I've always liked Vera Farmiga but I've never liked this "Bates Motel" idea. The idea of seeing Farmiga on a weekly series is great but I wish this wasn't the series in question.

  3. I feel the same way....
I've like her since one of her first roles in "Roar" with Heath Ledger, loved her on Touching Evil (another remake) with Jeffrey Donovan and enjoyed her in a number of movies too, but I'm not sure Bates Motel will be on my watch list even with Farmiga.

  4. I also loved the Farmiga/Donovan "Touching Evil." It's another one of those short-lived series that deserved better.

  6. Well said, Bruce. I swear you're always up in my brain.

And while I don't like the idea of this series because I am so fond of the Hitchcock film, I think I would like the idea more if it was on another network. A&E does nothing for me.

  7. IMO I think this is good choice. I like the idea of the Bates Motel, as long as it does stays more in the realm of psychological thriller, than just a horror story. Unlike the last time they tried to do this, television has become a greater and freer medium for deeper story telling.

  8. I agree about A&E. That network has no experience with high-end serialized drama.
