Production started this morning in Paris on the first season of Le Grand (8 episodes / 52 minutes each), a new copshow from TF1 (= Télévision Française Un, nicknamed "la Une") which will have the particularity of being mostly shot in English. Shooting of Le Grand will take place for 3-4 months in Paris. This show is particularly aimed at export.
In the past, TF1 has managed to export some of the cra-- creatively challenged series they've produced (e.g : Sous le soleil, Julie Lescaut, Navarro, Joséphine : Ange Gardien, Alice Nevers, Une femme d'honneur, Section de recherches, Commissaire Moulin, Femmes de loi, Soeur Thérèse.com, Les Cordier, etc, and also a decent one, Profilage, all air(ed) in Italy and some of these shows air in other countries as well) but Le Grand will be the first one that's not produced in French.
René Balcer, major writer on the Law & Order franchise (he worked on all of them except SVU), is creating this series about a French cop named Joachim Le Grand who solves crimes in Paris, and who speaks in English for some rea$on. That's it.
Le Grand will be played by Jean Reno and Jill Hennessy will have a leading role as well. The former Law & Order, Crossing Jordan and Luck star, who happens to speak French, will play a nun (yes, a nun), best friends with Le Grand.

It made me laugh when I read Jill Hennessy is playing a nun. When I read the headline at first I assumed "well, she'll be a love interest" but now that I know what her part is… :D. I mean, come on, she's pretty, she's best friends with the main character and she's his confident (but she's not an old/wise woman) : I'm sure there will be a "will they/won't they" dynamic to her duo with Reno (yes, that sounds boring already and yes, TF1 is the French CBS). It could be from a parody of shows where there's shipping with a central duo, but it's not, so I wonder how they will make it work.
ReplyDeleteAnd like CBS with The Good Wife, TF1 has one exception, one good show among all the bland copshows : in TF1's case, it's Flics, which I mention here (if you're courageous : http://www.spoilertv.com/2012/07/braquo-season-2-available-on-dvdblu-ray.html ) but because it doesn't reach a certain amount of episodes and because it's produced as miniseries (4 episodes in 2008, 4 episodes in 2011), it cannot be exported yet. It's quite different from the harmless shows I mention above - it's created by the creator of Braquo, it's kind of like if every now and then, CBS aired The Shield unedited at 9pm. Furthermore, some people say Profilage is above the average copshows, hence the Youtube link in the message above. If there are Italian and Brazilian readers, Profilage airs in your country (on Fox Crime in Italy as "Profiling", I don't know about the Brazilian channel).

ReplyDeleteI don't understand why people seem to think that nuns are older unattractive women,and it's true, Jill Hennessy, just like my lovely wife Vickie, looking old is impossible but, what people are forgetting is, Jill has the acting ability to pull the viewer into her character in a way that regardless of what roll she is playing, she will make us feel like we are part of the film, and we will root for whatever character she plays just like we have ffor every other part she has ever played!!! Actors like Jill Hennessy is why we keep watching TV, movies, plays, and her original music is beyond amazing. I have played guitar for 50 years, and Jill is the best original song writer i have heard in decades, and if you don't have her album "Ghost In My Head" you are missing out!!! And no she doesn't know me, i am speaking from my heart :)
