SVU has cast Chuck and Firefly alum Adam Baldwin to play Capt. Steven Harris, the squad's new interim captain, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively. He will take over the duties usually handled by Capt. Donald Cragen (Dann Florek), who is suspected of murder after he was last seen waking up next to a dead prostitute in SVU's Season 13 finale.

Baldwin's character is slated to appear in the new season's first three episodes while Cragen's fate is being determined. Needless to say, Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and the rest of the team are none-too-pleased to be taking orders from the new guy.

    I don't think his role will last very long, we know that Dann Floreck ( cragen) isn't leaving. So it might be just for a few episodes. We all know that Olivia will never take crap from anyone.

    I stopped watching SVU a few seasons back but I'm happy for Baldwin. It's nice to have him in a purely dramatic role instead of his typical action/dramedy roles.

    You don't have to understand that logic,i had gotten tired of seeing the same thing with the same people,and i like Adam,i like his acting style,i am hoping he will bring new life to the show.Does that answer your question? Sorry if i am cranky i just spent the entire day in the doctors office getting bad news and i come home to this.Thanks for the dislike...

    I didn't dislike your comment, SVU doesn't have the same people after season 12; it has a new cast.. The new showrunner Warren Leigh that started in season 13, breathed in new life to the show it's not the same as it was.
    Hopefully you'll enjoy and want to watch it even after baldwin is no longer on the show. I understand if you don't, no worries.
