Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Round 1L - Polls

15 Jun 2012

Round 1K was very easy for most people and the results bore that out. Lazarus Rising has now received the biggest percent of the votes this contest with 92.74%. It surpassed All Hell Breaks Loose 2 which received 92% of its vote. Winning by a landslide were Lazarus Rising, In the Beginning, and Appointment in Samarra. Skin also joins round 2 beating out Good God Y'All which had 41% of the votes. Other episodes leaving the contest include Of Grave Importance, Free to be You and Me, and 99 Problems.

Today's vote includes 5 of my all time favorite episodes. Unfortunately 4 of them are going against each other. Suffice to say, whatever happens I will be feeling the loss tomorrow - cursed ranking system. I hope it will be easier for you. I refuse to vote in these 2 polls. On a happier note, our quotes nominations are up to Bad Day at Black Rock, one of the funniest SPN episodes, and Sin City, one of the most underrated ones. If you missed out nominating any episode from seasons 1 and 2, please click on the links below for the nomination forms for the whole season. As always comments are love and happy voting!

  2. All very good choices. This round suffers from an overabundance of good episodes.

  3. - Red Sky at Morning -
Solid episode yet wins by default anyway because alternate universe episodes are a waste 99% of the time and "What Is" is no exception. Oh, while we're on the subject, the Djinn can bite me. What a terrible monster of the week.

    - Asylum -
This was a top notch haunted house-style episode; a real standout from the first season of the show and probably the first episode for me that had me thinking this show could be something special.

    - Faith -
Dead in the Water was way too sappy for me. That stuff with Dean and the kid still makes me roll my eyes. That dynamic was handled a lot better later on in the season in Something Wicked. I'm not a big fan of Faith but introducing the reaper was great and the subplot with Layla (Julie Benz) was nice.

    - Plucky Pennywhistle's Magic Menagerie -
After School Special is a serviceable episode and it has the good fortune to feature a pre-Vampire Diaries Candice Accola but it doesn't come close to the near-flawless, breezy Plucky Pennywhistle.

  4. These polls are the best part of my day. I love coming home from work to these. :)

    Great episodes today!

    1. What Is and What Should Never Be - Of course. This is in my Top 5, and that's saying a lot because I tend to HATE Alt!Universe stories. Alt!Universe is one of my least favorite tropes in any form of entertainment (side by side with body swapping). That being said, I think the reason this episode resonates with me so much is because of the Dean and Mary scenes. They are my favorite. And of course, seeing Dean feeling so free and happy, even if only for a short time, was so heart-warming. Man. This episode is so damn good. SO GOOD!

    2. This one was hard, because both of these episodes are so friggin' good! But I went with Nightshifter for a few reasons; Henrickson, Ronald (Manbot!), the scene with the guys unsure of which woman is the shifter, and of course - "Renegade" to end the show. Epic.

    3. Faith is the super easy-peasy choice for me. So easy. Love this episode and it's in my Top 5. Dead in the Water is amazing, but Faith all the way.

    4. This one was hard because both these episodes are so averagely good. I like them both, and each has one classic scene that could boost it to the top, but I can't choose over the classic scenes...oh man. **ponders** okay...in the end I decided to vote for Plucky's. There's a good use of history here with Sam's fear of clowns, a nice stunt with the countdown clock, and of course the final scene with Dean laughing at Sam's glittery form. It was lovely to see Dean momentarily happy! After School Special almost wins just for Dean as the gym teacher...but Plucky's gets my vote.

  5. I agree with everything you say. Everything you mention about Faith is why I love it, and though I did vote against Dead in the Water; it was the Dean and Lucas scenes that are my favorite parts of that episode! Nightshifter is awesome, again for the reasons you stated, and even though I didn't vote for Asylum, it was truly terrifying and I couldn't believe it when Sam actually shot Dean, once with the salt gun, and then again with the handgun (sans bullet). That was a very intense episode. I'll be okay if either wins that poll.

  6. Oh, yes. You summed up my thoughts on these episodes perfectly. Especially WIAWSNB, my all time fave.

    ReplyDelete
  7. 1) What is and What Should Never Be - Nicely put together...the surprising what ifs of Dean in a nice steady committed relationship and Daddy Winchester still being dead...and the reveal to Dean that all is not well. With some pretty funny moments. Oh, and I shouldn't forget the sad thought that, without their current hunting trip the brother's relationship wouldn't have been repaired. Nice work. Easy choice given that I was never a huge Bela fan. Red Sky was one of her least annoying appearances.

    2) Asylum - this one was a difficult choice for me. Really really difficult. The teenaged character slide Asylum in front of Nightshifter by the barest margin. But anytime I get a chick that kicks as much a$$ as she did....

    3) Faith - easy. The character stuff with the brothers was great.

    4) After School Special - I really liked Plucky. But this ep showed me a side of young Sam I didn't expect and had a really interesting ghost. And the twist of the ghost being a kid whose school life was hell directly because of something Sam did...something that was just normal, human kid stuff...and he was defending himself not being a bully or an ass. It was a spin on an old story that had more weight to it and left an impression. easy decision for me.

  8. Bad Day at Black Rock Quotes: So much to love with this one. I had a terrible time choosing the top quote but in the end I went with the Sammy classic.

    17. Kubrik: "But as it turns out, I'm on a mission from God."16. Kubrik: "It's God, Creedy. He led us here for one reason. To do his work. This is destiny." Sam: "Whoa." Dean: "Nope, no destiny. Just a rabbit's foot." 15. Sam: "Hi, uh, table for 2 please." Host: "Congratulations!" Dean: "It's exciting I know."14. Bela: "Thanks very much. I'm out one and a half million and on the bad side of a very powerful, fairly psychotic buyer." Dean: "Wow, I really don't feel bad about that. Sam?" Sam: "Nope, not even a little."13. Dean: "You my brother are staying here cuz I don't want your bad luck getting us killed."12. Sam: "What am I even supposed to do Dean?" Dean: "Nothing, nothing. Come here. I don't want you doing anything. I want you to sit right here and don't move. Okay. Don't turn on the light. Don't turn off the light. Don't even scratch your nose."11. Dean: "So you know the truth about what's really going on out there and this is what you decide to do with it. You become a thief?" Bela: "I procure unique items for a select clientele." Dean: "Yeah, a thief." Bela: "No, a great thief."10. Dean: "So you're only out for yourself, huh. It's all about number 1." Bela: "Being a hunter is so much more noble. A bunch of obsessed revenge-driven sociopaths trying to save a world that can't be saved." Dean: "Wow! Aren't you a glass half full?" 9. Dean: "You left without your tip."8. Bela: "We're all going to go to hell Dean. Might as well enjoy the ride." Dean: "I actually agree with you there. Any who, this has been charming, but uh, look at the time. Oh and this. Looks like you're not the only one with sticky fingers. If it's any consolation, I think you're a truly awful person….See ya."7. Bobby: "Just look out for your brother, you idjit."6. Dean: "Because demon. That's why. The second you find out this Ruby chick is a demon you go for the holy water. You don't chat." 5. Dean: "Now what do you say we destroy that ugly a** piece of dead thing?"4. Creddy: "We didn't even have to touch you. You just went all spastic and knocked yourself out. It was like watching Jerry Lewis try to stack chairs."3. I'm Batman." Sam: "Yeah…you're Batman."2. Kubrick: "Don't play with my Jesus."1. Sam: "I lost my shoe."

,,dahne this is not a comment is a postulate of an episode resume in a very fun way an i hate the second poll there are my favorites for each season but i choose Nightshifter

    ReplyDelete
  10. I hope WiaWSNB goes far in these polls. It's just so well-crafted and every scene with Dean and Mary is perfection. This is my go-to episode every time every time I need a stress reliever. I've seen it more than any other episode of TV.

    ReplyDelete
  11. This is the first poll where I will be equally happy and upset at the poll results. There are only 2 polls with clear winners for me - the first and last. Since I have no worries about the first, I guess I'll be watching the last most carefully. Still if for some reason the dreadful After School Special wins this round, I will have the comfort of knowing it will be absolutely crushed by Faith in round 2.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Aww, thanks for the nice words. I enjoy reading your comments and are happy you are playing along. This poll has a lot of my top episodes too. Agree with everything you've said about WiaWSNB. I love how supportive Sam is at the end too. It was just what Dean needed to hear. Objectively Faith is much higher on my list of favorites too. I'm just sentimentally tied to Dead in the Water. Thank goodness this one won't be even close because then I would feel obligated to vote and that could kill me.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I find the idea that Dean still had John dead in his dream world intriguing too. I know it was because Jeffrey Dean Morgan wasn't available but still this is canon now. I brings up all kinds of fascinating issues for me. I also agree that Kat rocked. In fact when I think of a spin-off Hunter Junior series, she's always leading the group with Michael from Something Wicked.

    ReplyDelete
  14. What Is and What Should Never Be, heartbreaking ep for me, and I loved every minute of it.

Asylum is still the scariest ep, I love the ones that I keep waiting for something to jump out at me. Nightshifter had the great Styx song Renegade with the "We Are So Screwed" from Dean, but just could not beat my winner.

Faith has this one, I liked the Reaper and the BOC song Don't Fear the Reaper.

PPMM was such a fun ep, amazed it is not ahead. I would vote for it, if only for the Dean laugh at the end.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Thanks! I agree that Nightshifter vs Asylum is so difficult. I can't believe they are against each other in the first round. I honestly don't know which I would pick; they are both so awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm hoping that the Purgatory episodes give me the same feeling as Asylum next season. It has that same dark, something's going to get you atmosphere that has so much potential. I'd love to jump in fright next season.

    ReplyDelete
  17. First I voted for What Is And What Should Never Be. That is one of my all time favourite episodes. It would have to be up against an amazing episode for me to even consider not voting for it. Second I voted for Nightshifter. This was a hard choice for me since I like Asylum too but I feel that Nightshifter has the edge. Honestly who can vote against Ronald Resnik? :P Third I voted for Faith. This is another episode that I love. I loved Sam doing anything and everything to try to save Dean. I also didn't mind Limp!Dean either. :P On a more serious note, I also liked how they were stuggling to try to figure out what was the right thing to do. Should they let Layla get healed even though it kills someone else who is innocent or should they stop Layla from getting healed and she will die eventually. Fourth I voted for After School Special. Neither of these episodes are my favorites but they both have something good in them. I love Colin Ford and how we got some more backstory on Sam and Dean even if I thought Brock Kelly didn't do the best job. I almost voted for Plucky if for nothing else then for the slinky scene but the rest of the episode just didn't seem as meaningful and important to me.
Side note: Could someone fix the typo in the poll for Nightshifter? It's just been bugging me so much! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  18. yeah, there's no way After School Special can beat Faith! No way!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I totally understand your attachment to Dead in the Water - that's how I feel about Faith (in addition to also loving it as an episode). I had grown to love the show before I saw Faith, but that particular episode, specifically with the role reversal of the brothers, was the official moment that I decided to never look back.

    ReplyDelete
  20. OH YEAH, a good scare in Purgatory would be great. I remember when I went to see Alien and I thought my kids were going to move to a different seat. I love scary movies.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oops. Consider it fixed. Usually I have polls created days ahead but I've been running behind in everything this week. I did it in a hurry right before posting and didn't edit. Thanks for letting me know.

    ReplyDelete
  22. In that first horrid summer hellatus, I was on a website that was doing the best episode contest similar to this one (with only 22 episodes though - oh how this show has grown). It was down to my two favorites for the win, Faith and Devil's Trap. Being the non-concise person I am, I wrote this huge episode comparison between the two and came to the conclusion that they are a whole lot similar than it would seem at first glance. I wish I had kept a copy of it. I would love to get people's ideas now that we are so far removed from season 1 and to see if I still agreed with me.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I preferred scary movies a whole lot more as a teen than I do now, but one of the things that made season 1 was that it really was like "a horror movie every week" like Kripke first described it. It hasn't been that in a long time and while I don't need scares every episode there should be at least 4-5 episodes each season that just scare the pants off you.

    ReplyDelete
  24. oh yeah, that would be fascinating to read, six years later. I can see on the surface some basic similarities between them; in any case, Faith and Devil's Trap are indeed, IMO at least, the two best season one eps.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 1. What Is And What Never Should Be - Easy choice for me. I loved Dean mowing the lawn in Djinn world, loved Dean's girlfriend in the Djinn world and Mary, Sam, and Jessica. Loved Dean's speech at his father's grave and the scene before he stabbed himself to wake up (so sad!). And Djinn world Sam trying to stop Dean. That was funny how he was all freaking out at the lamb's blood and then Dean throwing the cell phone out the car window. lol And then I loved Sam being there and saving Dean when he woke up. :)

Red Sky At Morning is a far cry from comparing, though the suits were great. lol

    2. Hard to choose since both are pretty much at the same level on my episode "meter". I voted Nightshifter though. It had Victor Henrickson in it, and Ronald and an awesome ending.

    3. Faith - Sick Dean and caring Sam. Loved it so much. The only issue I have with it is that if I could have I'd have punched Layla's mother out. lol So annoying.

Dead In The Water was good too but not on the same level.

    4. After School Special - Dean in gym clothes lol, and I loved the flashbacks and the impala rolling up to the school while "Long, Long Way From Home" played. :D

Plucky's was a little too silly, but I did love the ending.

..I choose night for one awesome and amazing reason WHEN THE SUPPOSE DEAN BEGAN TO PULL OF HIS SKIN...mmmm,uuuuyyyy that scene was so incredible and realistic

    ReplyDelete
  27. That was actually in the episode Skin. Nightshifter is the second shape shifter episode that takes place in the bank

    ReplyDelete
  28. The pic you chose is great. :D

    ReplyDelete
  29. One of the best parts of WiaWSNB for me is when DjinnSam said, "Look whatever stupid thing you're about to do, you're not doing it
alone and that's that." It was such a RealSam thing to say that I actually started cheering when I first watched the episode. To watch Dean's reaction to that line just heightened the moment for me. So much awesome in that episode.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Have you listened to the commentary by Kripke on WIaWSNB? It's so good. One of a very few commentaries that I will listen to multiple times.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love that as well. Djinn Sam was as I'd expect Sam to be. Makes sense since it was in Dean's mind.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Supernatural never really scares me, even in the earlier seasons. Well...in less being startled counts, like flinching when in Sam's dream in 1x02 the hand came out of Jess's grave. I wasn't expecting that.

I get more grossed out than anything else with certain episodes. I don't like gross outs, but they're easier to deal with so long as it's not too often.
The only extremely over the top creepy thing for me was the heart removal in TIOMS, I still skip over that scene today. Too chicken to watch. lol Thank God that wasn't my first episode!
The villains are creepy, but in a good way. Alastair was awesome. I like that kind of creepy.

Good thing too, because the reason I didn't try to watch a Supernatural episode until the season 1 finale was because I was about 12 yrs old and didn't want to be creeped out like with horror movies and get chills all night long. lol Plus, I'd get nightmares with horror movies sometimes and I didn't want any. It's very rare I have nightmares. My dreams are usually strange or nice or both. Point is, I'd rather have those dreams than nightmares because they're no fun while stuck in the dream since I seem to get sucked into it and my emotions react like it was real. Funny how dreams do that.
Horrors don't affect me like they did back when I was a kid, but if Supernatural had been too scary back then for me, I might have never watched SPN, and even if I had eventually, I'd have missed out on watching the episodes on their air dates, cutting back on the years of SPN fun I've had, and I may have never met the online friends I have.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Being a Supernatural fan definitely comes with side benefits you don't get from most TV shows. I'm glad you didn't miss anything. I'm of two minds of watching from the start. I remember watching the commercials for Supernatural and hearing people compare it to Buffy and X-Files before it ever aired. I remember getting excited about that because despite both shows' unfortunate decline in quality in the latter years, I was a huge fan of both. I remember sitting down and watching the pilot on the WB that Tuesday and thinking that I could really get into this show. I think I've seen every episode except 2 on the same night they have aired and I've enjoyed the ride. But sometimes I think of how cool it would be to see a season without hiatuses and to see for the first time one episode right after another. To watch the story unfold without the influence of the fandom's complaining as the season progresses. I'm listening to a lot of people who are just now finding Supernatural on Netflix and I think I'm a little jealous. To see them tearing through the episodes one right after another and to hear their excitement as they discover another great character or are shocked by that twist no one ever sees coming. Yeah I'm definitely jealous. Of course I would never trade all the great friends I've made through this show and it has expanded my horizons more than most things in my "real" life. I've tried things I wouldn't have before and rediscovered things I've forgotten. I guess great television touches us in ways we don't think about until we've already started to change. I'm grateful to Supernatural not just because it's kept me entertained for seven years, but also because it has given me a whole new circle of friendships and experiences to explore. So yeah, I guess I am glad I've been along the whole journey, even if the hellatus always tries to kill me.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I listened when I first got the DVDs but I tend to avoid the bonus material because it sometimes takes me out of the show. I'll have to break out my brand new set of season 2 DVDs and check it out again. I had to get a new set of season 1 and 2 DVDs because I had worn my originals out with both Devil's Trap and WiaWSNB. See Supernatural....answering my questions since 2005. Yes, you can wear out a DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks. There's actually a closer shot in the original set of pictures but I couldn't find it anywhere. If anyone has it, I'd sure appreciate a link. The sunglasses put it on top for me.

  36. 1.WIANSB easy choice
2.Asylum I do love Nightshifter but Asylum is one of my favourite episodes so I have to go with that.
3.Faith again not a hard choice
4.After School Special again this was abit hard because both these episodes come from the two seasons I least like but they were as individual episodes ones I did like but I went for After School Special as I loved the backstory and little Colin as young Sam is wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wiawsnb.

    It's such an interesting episode.
We get a peek at what life could have been like for the Winchesters if they had not had to live the hunting life; but as all the greatest of SPN episodes, it has just the right dose of comedy and drama, or in this case happiness but with the aftertaste of sadness, as Sam and Dean don't get on very well and Dean is seen as a bit of a bad egg but in the end the guys are there for each other.
I continue on my crusade for Red Sky At Morning which I liked a lot. Maybe the ghost story could have been sharper but I still enjoy the episode, and enjoyment is what watching an episode is all about!
    X
    Asylum
A very interesting and rather sad episode for in the end it leaves the brothers a little wary of one another, but a great atmospheric ep to watch.

Nighshifter is an okay ep but not on my best list.
Its a bit too slow action-wise.
    X
    Faith.
I'm a sucker for mystical miracle type stories and here too we get what makes a great episode ; the contrast!
First Dean gets healed then we see that it's not a miracle at all, but a reaper.
I love how here Sam was so concerned for his brother and tried to do everything he could to help him, even to arranging a meeting with Layla at the end to give Dean some sort of peace about not having let her get cured.

Dead in the Water is a great ep too but the brotherly love in Faith is my deciding factor.
    X
After School Special gets it, as does any story that tells us something about the Winchester's back story.
Colin Ford was adorable and even if the guy that played young Dean didn't quite fit the part, it still gave us a look into their past, and with both together too; and when the "Young Impala" showed up , supposedly driven by John , I got wooby.

I would have given it to PPMM if it had been up against something else as it was a good episode and nearly the last, before the series of very poor episodes that led up to the poorer finale

  38. Sin City Quotes:

    15. Bartender: "He left with Casey about an hour ago." Sam: "Any idea where they went?" Bartender: "Her place for Bible study."14. Dean: "Back in Wyoming, uh there was this moment. Yellow Eyes said something to me." Bobby: "What did he say?" Dean: "That maybe when Sam came back from well wherever..that maybe he came back different." Bobby: "Different how?" Dean: "I don't know. Whatever it was it didn't sound good. You think…you think something's wrong with my brother." Bobby: "Nah, demons lie. I'm sure Sam's okay." Dean: "Yeah, yeah, me too."13. Casey: "You thought I was flying solo. Shouldn't underestimate Dean. It might be the death of you. You can give me hard eyes all you want but the fact remains, we just have to wait and see who shows up first. The Calvary or the Indians."12. Casey: "Did I just see you strike out with a prostitute? How's that work?" Dean: "Well I just told her I had a thing for the bartender. It was pretty easy."11. Bobby: "What do you want?" Ruby: "Peace of earth, a new shirt. Now do you want me to help you out with that gun or not, hmm?"10. Dean: "A demon likes me. Sorry I don't know how to respond to that." 9. Dean: "So if we want to go check out these omens in Ohio, you think you can have that thing ready by this afternoon?" Bobby: "Well it won't kill demons by then but I can promise you, it'll kill you." 8. Casey: "Oh why Dean, if I didn't know better, I'd say that was lust in your eyes. Well that would be one way to spend the time, but I don't think you'd respect me in the morning." Dean: "That's okay. I mean hey I barely respect you now."7. Sam: "Two months ago we open the devil's gate. All of a sudden this town turns into Margaritaville. That's no coincidence." 6. Casey: "Sure, you Winchester boys are famous. Not Lohan famous but you know…" Dean: "Well that's flattering. Yeah, I'll be sure to let Sam know when he gets here." 5. Sam: "Plus some guy blows his head off in a church and another goes postal in a hobby shop before the cops take him out. Might be demonic omens." Dean: "Or it could just be a suicide and a psycho scrapbooker."4. Sam: "You do realize there's red meat within striking distance right?" 3. Sam: "Too many cops here. I say we bolt." Dean: "Just be cool. Poor jerk. The only thing possessing him was a sixer of Pabst." 2. Dean: "There's got to be a demon or two in South Beach." Sam: "Sorry Hef. Maybe next time."1. Casey: "Nice try but I think you just ordered a pizza. Guess you should have paid more attention in Latin class."

  39. I think Colin Ford was a great asset. Brock Kelly not so much.

  40. Okay,I'll vote for the first and the last poll and then I'll flip a coin for the other two.

What Is and What Should Never Be - In my Top 10,I loved everything that happened in the dream world. It was really great to see Mary and Jess again.Dean being so happy was a very welcome change, even though we knew that it wouldn't last.Sam refusing to leave his brother alone, even when they're not getting along, was brilliant. The scene where Dean is about to stab himself and wake up is my favorite. So heartbreaking to see that he wanted to stay, but at the same time knew that he couldn't.

Asylum - My coin has spoken!No,kidding...Well,both episodes are amazing.Asylum is one of the scariest episodes so far.Kat is simply awesome with he comments and her reactions. And of course, there's the confrontation between Sam and Dean.Didn't see that coming!

Dead in the Water - This one was much easier, not because I didn't like Faith, because again,I love both episodes. But there's no way Faith won't win this one and I don't like Dead in the Water loosing with a huge difference.

Plucky Pennywhistle's Magic Menagerie - Honestly,if only for the final moment with the brothers laughing.
But seeing Sam having to deal with clowns was fun as well.

    Quotes

Bad Day at Black Rock(so many quotes...I just went with the classics):
    - Sam: "I lost my shoe."

    - Dean: "I'm Batman."
    Sam: "Yeah…you're Batman."

    Sin City:
    - Sam: "You do realize there's red meat within striking distance right?"

    - Dean: "Azazel?"
Casey: "What, you think his friends just called min Yellow-Eyes?He had a name."

The Dialogue between Dean and the wonderful (I would have loved for her to have been Ruby ) Casey was so, so full of on-screen chemistry.

Dean: What are you laughing at, bitch? You're still trapped.

    Casey: So are you...bitch.

    Dean: I don't know. I'd like to.

  42. I'll probably sneak in a last minute vote for Dead in the Water too for the very same reason. I love that we went 2 seasons without ever having a name for the yellow-eyed demon and then after he's dead they casually give us that info.

  43. I'd have to give some hard core thinking to trying to pick the scariest ep...but the scariest scene comes immediately to mind. It was in Family Remains when the girl thinks the dog is licking her hand and she looks up and the dog is all they way by the door. I had to call someone to talk me down from the ceiling. I know it's not in any of the polls but you brought it to mind when you said "scariest." Now, I'll be up all night. :-)

  44. hee hee... when I was trying to decide between Nightshifter and Asylum I *almost* picked Nighshifter because of the "Renegade" sequence. It was an awesome sequence!

What Is And What Should Never Be, the easiest one. It's AU within the show, it's my second favourite thing, right after time travel. So, perfect. the second one is Asylum as it scared my best friend and also had a badass lady in it. For the third I chose Dead in the Water. Not a big fan of either of the episodes, but I guess this one annoys me less. After School Special wasn't hard - I love the flashbacks with young Winchesters plus it was nice to see the ultimate role reversal of Dean and Sam:at the end of the episode.

  46. What is and What Should Never Be - no explainining needed here;
    Asylum - the second scariest for me (after Bloody Mary);
    Faith - a good story, liked the role reversal and the reaper was very creepy;
Plucky Pennywhistle's Magic Menagerie - funny epsiode, and i also need to mention that i loved the colorful title card (or how it is called).
Sad because i needed to vote against Nightshifter and Dead in the Water - two good episodes as well.

  47. Or at the very least one or two. Now I don't get scared just worried about one of the guys. I really should get a life instead of being so attached to a shows characters. lol

    ReplyDelete
  48. I really did not want to hear you can wear out a DVD!! If they don't get scratched or fingerprints all over them, how do they wear out. Maybe I need to start saving my pennies, because I will NOT be without my SPN. lol

    ReplyDelete
  49. I adore Colin Ford, have you seen him in We Bought a Zoo? I was telling someone how good the movie was and they said isn't Matt Damon in that and even after I had just watched the movie, I said, uh not sure. I only got it for Colin Ford. lol

    ReplyDelete
  50. While you are on the ceiling, get those cobwebs out of the corners. lol

    ReplyDelete
  51. I also love that scene, it told everything about Sam we know :) Damn it, now I have to go and watch the episode again ;)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Whow... It's going to be a close one between Asylum and Nightshifter. That doesn't surprise me, they are great episodes, classics! Too bad one of them needs to go in the first round :(

    ReplyDelete
  53. 4 easy choices for me today.

What is And What Should Never Be - I loved this episode.

Nightshifter is one of my all time favourite episodes, so that was an
easy choice. Surprised to see that Asylum currently has more votes
though. Still they are both good episodes.

Faith - thie episode wins easily for all the brotherly moments and 'Don't Fear The Reaper.'

Plucky - kind of won be default as I am not overly keen on After School Special.

  54. What is and What Should Never Be is one of my all time favorites so it was an easy vote.
Although I enjoyed both episodes, Asylum and Sam dealing with what he thought was Dean's bossiness and controlling was good.
The third wasn't fair. lol I chose Dead in the Water knowing Faith would win. Dead in the Water is where Jensen finally figured out who Dean was and how to play him. It was a pivotal episode for that reason. Also, it is where we learned that Dean saw what happened to his mother.
Plucky Pennywhistle;s Magic Menagerie was a no brainer. I am not a fan of how Brock Kelly played Dean. I know it is not his fault. He was only given three episodes to watch. You know, it's not hard to get copies of the DVD's and watch, so, although the story line was good, the acting of the young man left much to be desired in my opinion.

Bad Day at Black Rock Quotes
    Dean: What?
    Sam: I lost my shoe.

    Dean: I'm Batman
    Sam: Yeah, You're Batman

    Sin City Quotes
    Dean: Azazel?
Casey: What, you think his friends just called him Yellow-Eyes? He had a name.

Casey: You Winchester boys are famous. Not Lohan-famous, but you know.

  55. What is and What Should Never Be, Nightshifter (love both episode, but voted for nightshifter because was losing when i voted), Dead in the Water (the same reason, because losing and i love both episodes), Plucky Pennywhistle's Magic Menagerie.

    Quotes:

    Bad Day at Black Rock:

    Sam: "I lost my shoe."

Dean: "I'm Batman." Sam: "Yeah…you're Batman."

    Sin City:

Dean: "Azazel?" Casey: "What, you think his friends just called min Yellow-Eyes? He had a name."

Casey: "Lose something?" Dean: "Why do you demons have such smart mouths?" Casey: "It's a gift" Dean: "Yeah, well, let's see if you're still smiling when I send your ass back to Hell."

  56. I have no idea how the wear out but both discs always pause in the same scene and don't want to move forward. Coincidentally they are both at a scene I have rewound and watched more times than I can count and no the discs aren't scratched or smudged. It's Supernatural. I'm more careful than that.

    ReplyDelete
  57. lol Yeah, all this talk is making people want to see episodes again. Even led me to buying Dark Angel Season 1 and 2. Spoiler TV made business for Walmart. XD

    ReplyDelete
  58. I can't imagine a more perfect way to end that episode. It worked so well.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yikes, so sorry. Yeah that was a creep out moment for sure. I think we are definitely going to need to do a scariest scene poll.

    ReplyDelete
  60. You can never go wrong rewatching WiaWSNB. So many great moments in 42 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  61. You can continue your crusade for Red Sky at Morning in tonight's poll. It will be up next for the quotes nominations. Several good lines in that one. Who could forget - "Don't objectify me."

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'd feel like I lost years with the show. It would seem like it ended too soon if I had started watching it late in the game.

Watching Season 1 on DVD when I got it was a blast. I watched the episodes in a day and a half. That's all I did during that time, watch episodes. XD I was in middle school and it was summer break so it was easy to do that at the time.

    Yeah, hellatus is the downside.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The actress who played Casey was phenomenal. I too think she would have made a great Ruby. That dialogue had great give and take by the actors and it really sold a scene that could have ended up boring or overdone.

    ReplyDelete
  64. If Time Is On My Side is showed, I'll be hiding behind the couch in less you tell me how you can cling to the ceiling. lol

    ReplyDelete
  65. I can't decide if After School Special is a train wreck because of the acting or the writing. I suspect it is both. What a stilted, one-dimensional character they made Dean! It's this episode that reminds me of why Dead in the Water was such an important episode to me. Before it, I figured they'd make the Dean character just another flat stereotypical smart mouthed bad boy whose only job was to deliver the punchline and orbit the main character of Sam. Dead in the Water showed that Dean would have depth too. If Dean had been written and acted like he was in After School Special, I don't think they would have made it to season 4 to do this episode. The brother relationship is what sold me on the show and you can't have that without 2 fully developed brothers to build a relationship on.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Haha. Yeah. I still get grossed out sometimes but nothing after TIOMS has ever made me shiver, look around with paranoid eyes. lol

I just fear for the characters as you said. For me though, I don't get too concerned with Sam or Dean dying. I fear for them for their sakes, but I know no matter what they'll live or be revived cause they're the main characters. It's the other characters I like that I freak out about (what little left there is).

Considering they actually killed Bobby off (the guy I thought of as the untouchable character for years because he didn't ever die) I have a good reason to be. I was so hoping Bobby would be the only person on the show not to die. Then he ends up dying for a few minutes in Swan Song and permanently in Season 7. :(

  67. Just curious why you didn't like Faith. I rarely hear that so you've peaked my curiosity.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I loved the glitter title card for Plucky's too. Anytime they change the title card I tend to love it. The exploding cake for Season 7, Time for a Wedding was epic. I also loved the Christmas lights in the title card of A Very SPN Christmas.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Could not agree more. I really wish these episodes were up against different ones. Most of these should get at least to the second round if not go farther.

    ReplyDelete
  70. So glad to hear it was easy for you. With the exception of one poll in the next round and one early in round 2, everything else should be easy for me through next week.

    ReplyDelete
  71. In the end, I will probably vote for whichever is losing in the middle two polls also just as a show of support. Great quote choices by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Ha that's awesome! Too bad we can't have a thread to talk about Dark Angel too. It sounds like many people are going to be doing a rewatch of that this summer.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'm hoping for a moratorium on big character death in season 8. Not just the few characters that have been around for 4 episodes or more but also anyone who becomes a fan favorite. For instance, if Charlie comes back I want her to live. I'm not a big fan of Garth, but they made him a player in the SPN world so he makes it too. I'd like to see the writers get more creative about ciffhangers and creating drama/tension so it didn't always have to revolve around death.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I do understand the backing up and re-watching scenes, I do that a lot. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  75. I just hurt for the guys mostly when they get into the bloody fights with each other and the end of Swan Song just broke my heart. I sobbed and still do each time I watch it. Don't worry so much about them dying and I don't mind a show putting all the characters on the dying line. Dang I do love this show. lol

    ReplyDelete
  76. I am up to disk 3 season 2, one I don't care anything about is Boo..

    ReplyDelete
  77. Such a waste indeed... We could do a second poll elimination with the ones that lost the first round... That would be interesting :)

    ReplyDelete
  78. Yeh! I always love them too... The one from Time for a Wedding was pretty cool, unfortunately brings up memories from Becky (shivers...)!!!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Could not agree more! I can't even imagine a series with such a flat Dean characterization... It would be pointless and change the show complete! Thank god that despite some minor mistakes during 7 seasons, that one wasn't one of them :)

    ReplyDelete
  80. see i liked after school special more then i liked the episode its up against i found that episode mediocre at best where i loved "After School Special"

    ReplyDelete
  81. Interesting idea. I'll look into it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Definitely! From the outset it seemed that Kripke realized that if we weren't hooked into these characters we wouldn't care about what they fight. It gives me great hope for his new show Revolution. If he can get us to care for the characters outside of the odd but cool premise, then there's a good chance it will see season 2. I'd love for Kripke to have further success.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Thanks to sudden discussion over Jensen's previous roles. lol

    ReplyDelete
  84. I think a lot of Dean girls might have voted for this episode merely for the shorts he was wearing (mostly just joking) as we girls hardly ever get to see any of the boys' skin, talk about rare moments you can count on your fingers, LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Exactly how I feel. I'm sick of all the characters dying. There are other ways.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Yes, the man thought all of that very well!
I really want to see Revolution, the concept is very attractive, but I agree it needs to have good characters to hook me... I have faith it will surprise us :)

    ReplyDelete
  87. long, strong fingernails. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  88. Totally awesome. One of my very favorite music moments.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Interesting...I find the bonus material, when it's well done like that Kripke commentary, gives me a whole new level upon which to enjoy the episode. I wish there were more commentaries of SPN episodes, because many times I really want to know motivations for things. I also really wish there was a commentary on AHBLpt2, to go along with the commentary for AHBLpt1. *sigh* oh well.
Also - wearing out a DVD! Whoa! lol...I've not had that privilege!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I want to see Kripke succeed too but there's a little voice in my head that just wishes he would come back to SPN for a few episodes sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Bwah! Flo does seem to take a lot of vacations. I really wish they'd keep her around a bit more.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Be careful what you wish for. I have a feeling he'll be back for the final episodes of the show and I'd like to see at least a couple more seasons before that.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Well, you know the continuity fairy sometimes has tequila on her lunch break and skips the rest of her work day.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I prefer arms to legs so those shorts didn't do much for me. Give me the grey t-shirt any day. :-P Besides the fact that Dean was wearing shorts took me completely out of the episode and not in a good way. All I think about is how Dean tells Hailey in Wendigo, "Oh sweetheart, I don't do shorts."
