Okay,so its not Downton Abby, its not Sherlock, and maybe its not Scandal or Revenge, but it is Dallas, its the Dallas i remember way back when, and it was grand! It was great seeing JR,Bobby, and Sue Ellen once again, they dove right in like they haven't missed a single moment for the past 20 some odd years! And their youngins,i swear they take after their daddy's,guess you can say the apple didn't fall far from the tree where those two are concerned. The new cast must have spent quite a bit of time studying, talking and just being with the "older" cast members, for they did a good job portraying JR and Bobby,i felt at times as if i was watching a prequel to the original Dallas,i think they will do a great job in fitting into there counterparts roles. Before i knew it the show was over,my popcorn gone and i realized i need to go to the store and stock up cause i know what i'll be doing Wed.night's from now on! If you didn't get a chance to watch, try and do so,give it a chance, you'll get hooked, just like i did all over again! I had a hoot !
Yes,Dallas isn't a fast pace show, not like Revenge,or Scandal, give it a few more episodes i think it going to be worth it,if it stays close to the original which looks that way so far at least,it will be pretty rich in story..
Pilot was awful. Second episode better. What changed? More of the old and less of the new. The characters of the old Dallas are still great, the new additions, with the exception of Brenda Strong, are just a waste of screen time. Bland John Ross is no replacement for the old JR.
Why did they pick him? It's not like he can even pass as JR's and Sue Ellen's kid, genetically they would not have a short stop for son.
:-) Yes, it was just like old times wasn´t it. I loved that they kept it a soap o. and didn´t try to make it cooler or anything, but kept the same feeling as we use to have back in the day. I was better than I expected honestly. If it was showing in October I would have other better shows to watch and I would never watch it again. But it´s summer now and less shows to watch, so I might keep watching. :-)
I haven't watched the second part of the premiere yet. The first part as a LOT better than I expected. The over publicity was beginning to get on my nerves. I didn't decide to watch until I saw a review that pointed out that Bobby, JR, and Sue Ellen were part of the fabric of the show and not just doing cameos. It wasn't perfect. It had that pilot problem where a lot of characters had to be introduced and we only got the beginning seeds of the stories.
I like Jessie Metcalf as Chris...but I cannot for the life of me remember where the character came from. I think Chris must've come on the canvas after I switched over to Knots Landing and stopped watching Dallas. The guy playing John Ross seems a little flat for me. The character doesn't have any redeeming qualities and that kind of bugged me. Near as I can remember as much as JR would go after Bobby and treat Sue Ellen like dirt and be a bad guy...he loved his Mama. John Ross doesn't seem to even have that tiny bit to like about him. Chris' new wife is a Barbie Doll. I keep thinking of her as the Pam replacement. I've never been a huge fan of the actress so that may be a problem. Jordana Brewster (forgive my bad spelling) didn't really get to start getting into any meat until the pilot was almost over. I like the actress and am looking forward to seeing more with her.
As I said...it was a pilot...and suffered from the issues a lot of pilots do but I think there's something there to watch. Not sure if it'll become the addictive pleasure it was back in the 80s but it definitely gave me enough to give it a chance.
Ha ;) I agree! lets hope they keep it a summer show for i too wouldn't be watching it if it wasn't.. I finally got a chance to watch the second episode i must say John Ross Jr is not nearly as good as JR is or was,but i guess one really cannot compare the two. Its a fun show as long as you take it for what it is,my grandmother loved this show, and she got such a kick out of it. We use to watch it together and that really is the reason why i tuned in. I'm sure she was smiling hearing the theme song and seeing JR,Sue Ellen and Bobby,it brought back so many good memories of her and the things we use to do so yeah i'll keep watching....its the summer after all..
Loved it! This brought back so many childhood memories of sitting up watching this with my mom and dad as a kid. Granted back then I was only half paying attention if at all, but I knew that theme song like I know my name.
John Ross is never gonna be the new JR, but that´s ok. He doesn´t need to be (we still have the old JR). It was so much fun to see Bobby, Jr and Sue Ellen again. The new ones were ok too. We have to get to know them first, before we judge to hard I think. Some people wrote that they found it slow, I didn´t get that feeling at all. It moved in the right speed for a Soap O.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Really liked it. I'm going to have to watch the original now!
ReplyDeleteNot gonna lie, it moved a little slow for my taste...
ReplyDeleteThis show seems to have this little soap-opera touch, but I like it.
ReplyDeletei couldn't help but have but have a big smile on my face when the opening credits started :) I think there is quite a bit of potential in this.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I hope the pace speeds up in future episodes...

Dallas is a soap opera....so they're staying true to the original on that front.
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch it back then and I don't plan to watch it now.
ReplyDeleteI watched Dynasty with my mom.
ReplyDeleteOh I didn't know that, well I like it even when it is a soap opera, hehe thanks for the info.

ReplyDeleteYeah i don't understand what they meant by slow either? Can't please everyone i guess.
