EW has learned exclusively that Brian Dietzen has been promoted to series regular on the show, which is going into its 10th season. He was formerly appearing on a recurring basis as the right-hand man to medical examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard (David McCallum). “I’m very excited,” Dietzen tells EW. “After eight years of being with the show, I got a contract with CBS, and I couldn’t be happier about it.”

  4. I don't even watch the show anymore, but felt the need to say 'about damn time' after 8 freaking years.

  5. Finally!!!!! I can't believe it took them this long, what 7 years now he has been on,no 8 years.Bout damn time!

  6. Finally!! :) But I wonder if that means Michael, Sean, or Pauley isn't coming back.

  7. About bloody time, 8 years is a long time to just be recurring, this has been long overdue

  8. As others have said, about fucking time :)

My thought, is that when/if "Ducky" retires, Palmer will take over as the Medical Examiner on the show. David McCallum is no "spring chicken" by any means, but I still hope he stays with the show for as long as he can (or as long as the show remains on the air, whichever comes first).

Are there any of the main actors who still haven't signed contracts for the new season? I'd assume they should be knee-deep in shooting the new season by now.

  9. Pauley, Michael, and Sean still have to re-sign, but Gary Glasberg is confident they will.

  11. The writers went back to work earlier this month but the cast doesn't start shooting until sometime in July, I believe. (I could be wrong. I'm basing this on other CBS shows)

  12. Thanks for the information :)

Season 10, really can't come fast enough. Hoping it makes it to atleast 11, to break the record of it's predecessor (JAG).

  13. I love JAG, but I definitely think NCIS will get a season eleven.

  16. Well this is a good thing for the show as he is a quality actor, and has a great character, and his run-ins with Gibbs are hilarious, so hopefully we'll see more of them. Although this might mean a smaller role for Ducky, so I don't know where that will go.

  20. It doesn't take 8 years to become a star in a show. but now he is a star it's more exciting now that his is. i would if it would be like this if he was a star ages ago would we all be happy or be nothing.
