Game of Thrones - Season 3 - 11 Reasons To Be Excited

Thanks to Nanas for the heads up.

11. Jojen and Meera Reed
The Reed siblings are actually introduced in A Clash of Kings, which is of course second book. Their father is a bannerman to the Starks and his children go to Winterfell to renew their pledge. The Reeds are there for almost everything that happens to Bran in season 2 including when Theon took over Winterfell. Meera Reed protects the children while Jojen Reed helps Bran with his visions. How they’re going to be introduced in season 3 is still a mystery, but these two characters are pivotal in Bran’s story and give some much needed spice and sense of adventure as well.

10. The Whereabouts of Sandor Clegane (a.k.a. The Hound)
During the Battle of the Blackwater, Clegane fled King’s Landing and offered to take Sansa with him. Although she denied him, his story is definitely not over. He doesn’t get POV chapters though, so he reappears in another character’s storyline and is actually a welcome and frightening addition. The interactions between this POV character and Clegane are “different” and are definitely worth the wait.

9. The Return of Barristan Selmy
In case viewers have forgotten, Barristan Selmy was the Lord Commander of the Kingsguards until Joffrey humiliatingly dismissed him. He vowed to find the rightful king to serve and stormed off without ever being seen again…until now. Without giving away too much, he certainly thought long and hard about who he was going to look for because his return is quite the surprise, even to the readers. He actually returned much sooner, but was not revealed until book three through the eyes of a POV character who readers thought would never meet him. Hopefully the show gives him the justice he deserves.

  2. It will be a excruciatingly long wait until season 3... :-(

  3. The continuing adventures of The Wench and Kingslayer is number one on my list. I am really happy they included some of their story in S2 a good taster for what is to come and for those who haven't read the books be prepared to change your opinion on that king slayering nearly child murderer incestuous cocky bastard!

  4. Here it comes:The most dreadful hour of TV in my life so far.

  5. Sounds like season 3 is going to be awesome.

  6. Reeds.. meh.

I think the Stannis arc is pretty good honestly. Without being too spoilery... when he arrives someplace in the nick of time I almost cheer every time I read it!

Sansa's story was far more fun in Book 2 to me with Sandor (an entire arc missed in the TV series).... The best part of Book III and Sansa's arc probably will not make it into Season 3 and will be in Season 4... so I can't agree with her being #2.

  7. Well if I understand the event you mean.... at least it will be at/near the end of the season if it makes it into Season 3 at all!

    Little consolation I know.....

  8. I think Stannis should be higher on the list honestly!

I wonder if they will hit Dorne or not in Season 3.

It was announced today that Thrones will be filming in Morocco for Season 3 and some thoughts are it could be Dorne (if not Yunkai or Astapor or Meereen). I personally think it makes a lot of sense to add Dorne early so some future events have more meaning and power to them, but I have no idea if D&D feel the same way.....

  9. I can't wait to see what happens with tyrion after all the best action IMO is in kings landing. :)

  10. I'm pretty sure you do understand and even though I do appreciate the effort, thinking that it may be at the end of season 3 or even in season 4 doesn't really help.
I've never had such a reaction while reading a book before.I closed it,shoved it under my bed and spent the following week thinking if I wanted to continue or not.Honestly...

  11. I'm really looking forward to more Jaime/Brienne stuff, as well as the continuation of Arya's journey. She was forced to grow up really quickly, and I can't wait to see where the story takes her next.

  12. No,i didn't read the book, are you talking about Jamie Lannister?

  13. It bothered me a lot too. As Much as I hated it I still liked the fact that a book could affect me in such a way I guess...

Not sure if you have heard it before but GRRM had a hard time writing it and waited until he had finished the rest of the book before writing that scene.

  14. Well, good things to look forward to (on page as well as onscreen) as I finally finished book 1 and hopefully will start/finish book 2 before the end of summer and hopefully will be able to get thru book 3 before year's end. I have heard that in the forthcoming books Martin takes some of the stories/characters thru some unexpected and possibly controversial twists that might have pissed off some of the readers. I'm assuming that after killing Ned Stark off, no character is safe but I guess I'll find out when I finally get to reading it myself....

  15. I am indeed, he became one of my favourite characters after reading A Storm of Swords, never thought that would happen after the first book.

  16. I had the exactly oposite reaction!! I couldn't stop reading! I still remember i was so shocked i wanted to keep reading in case somebody is joking and the story is not real!!
Do you know if they are going to split the book into 2 seasons or not? There are a lot of stuff happening it will be almost impossible to fit everything in one season!!

  17. I'm exited about the reeds, sansa's POV, arya and catelyn!!
    That is from the books!
Now what they will manage to fit in one season, we have to wait and see!!

  18. I've read it before that he had a hard time writing it,but I didn't know that he wrote it after he'd finished the rest of the book.

And you're right, when a book affects you like that, the author is definitely doing something right.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well,I'm pretty sure that your reaction was the normal one. ; ) But I was simply so incredibly upset,I've never done anything like it before.Normally when I like a book,I don't put it down until I'm done.
Anyway..The third season will be based roughly on the first half of A Storm of Swords, yes. There's no other way,it's huge.Ιn my country the even released it in two books(the same happened with A Dance with Dragons).

  20. Happened to me too.

And for for the non-readers of the books, Jaime Lannister is not nearly so likable in the first book or two as Nikloaj Coster-Waldau portrayal in the TV series. So saying he becomes a favorite is really saying something!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Exactly as Kat stated.

That's why no one is exactly sure where they will end Season 3 right now. In the books there are natural plot points at the halfway mark (or end of part 1 in some countries) that would make good finale material....

Of course most readers expect one event to be the finale or in episode 3x09, but I really hope they hold it for the beginning of Season 4 honestly. I think it would make a great "season shaping" event at the beginning of the season and it might be less traumatic for viewers too.... I think it will be major drama no matter when it airs, but if it airs at the end of a season it could have real impact with some fans... maybe in a bad way!

    ReplyDelete
  22. He does indeed.

Basically like you wrote, no one is safe.... and I will add that there are VERY few "black" or "white" major characters. So if some seem too evil or or villainous at some point they could get redemption arcs and the too good characters will make mistakes that lead to trauma ala Ned Stark's honor.

  23. KatHale DarqueMode I honestly didn't remember what was happening at the first part of book 3. The second part was stuck so much with me that i completely forgot! :$

After some browsing i see book 3 to be 2 season and have the same structure as the 2-part book! But don't you find the second part to be really dark compared to the first? The first one has good storylines, but somehow there is nothing to prepare readers/viewers for what is happening later...
And realising when certain key-moments occur i find more likely that the one happening in "early" part 2 will most likely be at the finale or 3x09 as DarqueMore said.
And i see the bad impact coming! But the same could have happened with Ned Stark! And i don't think it had a negative impact in the end! Because you have so many other characters you are dealing, you are in denial until you actually realise what happened! And the aftermath is so damn good you can't get away! ;-)

  24. Yes indeed, Jaime´s story is also on the top of my list. He is one of the characters that develops the most and I just love how NCW makes him even better.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jaime/Bienne first of all!!
    And Tyrion.....
    And Jon Snow......and Stannis.

Can´t wait for season 3. This feels lijke when I use to wait for LOST.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Most of all, the three weddings. I don't know if all of them will take place in season 3, but definitely all are sth worth waiting for.

Agreed about Sandor. He's still the most fascinating character of the books for me and hopefully his TV version finally rises up to this.
Excited to see the Reeds too! And lady Olenna aka the Queen of Thorns.
Jon's part of the story in book 3 is awesome too.
Daenerys's storyline is not interesting AT ALL. And it will remain so until she decides to get her ass to Westeros finally.

  27. I strongly disagree. After Sandor leaving at the end of book 2 I did think I would have to be getting through her chapters with a yawn from then on, but turned out they were among the ones I ended up most excited for. It's not about what Sansa does herself, it's about what is being done to and around her. In all the other POVs everything revolves around sword fighting or hiding or running away through forests etc. Sansa's (and Tyrion's) chapters show you the inside of the game of thrones, of how rich noble people play their political and mind games. For me it's fascinating. Also, book 3 is the beginning of Sansa's journey from a pawn to a player.
