The 2012 STV Favourite TV Series Competition - Day 10 - Grimm vs. House MD & Angel vs. Veronica Mars

29 Jun 2012

Hey folks,

Yesterday as expected saw a large turnout of people to vote as Supernatural got underway in the competition. As a result it produced an easily recorded victory over Revenge which never really looked like it was going to pose any threat to the two time winner. Also Smallville kept The West Wing at more than arms length for the entirety of the day and recorded a similarly impressive victory.

Today sees one new series take on another that ended its eight year run in May. We have NBC's new supernatural drama Grimm challenging Hugh Laurie's House MD for a place in the next round. Both shows have had strong seasons, with Grimm finding NBC some success on Fridays whilst House MD had a strong final run of episodes after announcing its end back at the start of 2012.

Also today sees Joss Whedon's Buffy spinoff Angel challenging Kristen Bell's big break TV series Veronica Mars in a battle between two very popular fan bases. It should be interesting to see who wins this one.

If you want to see the draw for the rest of the competition, and see which show will take on which other show then head HERE for a look. Let the voting begin!

.HOUSE against GRIMM..this is a match made in hell i vote for Grimm for fan support but house will won this crazy poll..

    ReplyDelete
  4. I only voted for house since i didn't watch the two

    ReplyDelete
  5. Grimm (as I tried House and really did not like it) and Veronica Mars for me. I did like Angel, so that was a tough choice.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I thought one was suppose to vote for what they liked, not to vote for fan support.

    ReplyDelete
  7. It did have a great ending! And beginning, hell it was a great show!

...THEY...WHO..(?)...I like BOTH ..shows ..they represent two different sides of story lines creativity and develop...Grimm is children books stories translate for adult side..and House is completely adult ..drama I vote for Grimm ..because is new and in the next poll competition may be will had the opportunity to advance forward position.

  9. Actually today I really don't care about those 4 shows. Therefore I decide not to vote any of them.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Easy for me. Grimm and Angel. Guess I just can't get enough monsters.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Grimm and..oh my God I can't choose.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I never bother with hospital dramas, no matter how good they may be.
Watching patients and their families, ill, dyng or suffering doesn't entertain me in the least, so I'll give it to Grimm as it's a genre show, even if I have not yet seen it.

I have never watched the other two although I would probably have liked Angel, so I'll give it to that.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Grimm was easy for me, was never a House fan, and as much as I love Angel, Veronica Mars is one of my top 5 shows and another series that ended to soon, so VM it is.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Give Veronica Mars a shot, bet you would like it. I did not get into it until after it was over, just did not think a show about a high school girl working with her dad as a PI was anything I would like. Boy was I wrong. lol Loved Angel season 5 because James Marsters/Spike was in it, but for me does not come close to VM.

Hmm. I might give it a go when it comes round on repeats, as it surely will.
    Thanks.

  16. Grimm was a no brainer over house for me. But I was super torn with Angel and Veronica Mars. I went with Veronica Mars because that was one of the few shows that had me hooked after it's pilot. It was well done and ended much too soon and way too abruptly. Enrico C. won me over every week as Papa Bear Mars and and the cast as whole had phenomenal chemistry and almost every episode of the entire series was riveting and didn't get weighed down with BS. Although the writers and the creator caved to network execs in the third season axing the season long story arc and opting for mini arcs (not to mention the re-did the theme song), I wasn't bothered by it much. I still enjoyed it and was pissed that I didn't get to find out if Papa Mars was ever going to get to be sheriff again. I could gush about this show forever and a day. But I will say had it been Buffy and not Angel, I would have voted Buffy no doubt. Buffy's Scooby Gang was infinitely better and I just never fully recovered from the Cordy and Connor thing and then "killing" off Fred. Another one of my shows that ended abruptly (but I like to believe Angel did indeed slay the dragon).

  17. Sorry Nelly,i misunderstood what you meant.

  18. Running shows: HOUSE!!!! No contest! I mean Grimm is sweet and all but HOUSE is a classic.
Ended shows: Angel. Unpopular opinion I see (though I'm not too surprised about that) but for me Angel is a brilliant amazing show, a true classic, and IMO Joss's second best show after Firefly (again unpopular opinion I know, but as a whole I find it way more consistant in story and character development and consistently entertaining than Buffy. Plus I liked it's more mature noir feel. It reasoned more with me.)

  19. In the US it is showing on the Soap channel.

  20. ~ "I never bother with hospital dramas, no matter how good they may be.
Watching patients and their families, ill, dyng or suffering doesn't entertain me in the least " ~
I get that but IMO that is so NOT what House was about.
It wasn't so much about the medical drama, but about the medical MYSTERY and how this particular (unbelievebly interesting) person viewed the world.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Unfortunately the human drama of patients was mixed in so..!

I have seen a few episodes of the first season and I did appreciated the fact that he was a-typical for a doctor, but it's just not my kind of show.

    ReplyDelete
  22. What I took away from House was if you get sick and go to the hospital they will run every test known to man before they find out what is wrong with you.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Grimm and Angel for me ;)

    ReplyDelete
  24. First Poll: House - I've never been a big fan but Grimm has a long way to go to catch up to House for me. Then again I've only seen episodes from the first 1-4 seasons.

The second Poll: OMG VERONICA MARS. I don't believe that I go crazier for any other show than I do for Veronica Mars. It was mysterious, wonderfully serialized, and SO well-done! It had the perfect mix of cynicism, innocence, unbelievable personal traumas, and awesome character interactions. I still have yet to see another show that had this kind of wit, both winking and stark serious... I believe I saw a comment that said it succinctly once before: "This was the darkest, most incredible noir masquerading as a high school drama on television."

I'm still in denial about the CW killing this show for... guhhh...Gossip Girl.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The last episode of Grimm I watched showed someone getting eaten alive.
And then their sibling have to deal with their death.

Just cause it's a genre show doesn't exclude suffering and dying.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wilson Crawford
That's true but I feel it's a little bit different.

If you look at it like that, any show where there's a death can be accused of causing suffering , police procedurals included.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The first poll was pretty easy for me, though I know it's the underdog: Grimm. It took a few episodes to pick up, but the series really hit its stride, and it's one of the shows I'm anticipating most in the fall. I never liked House. I get the appeal I suppose, but Hugh Laurie's character is really grating to me.

The second poll was much more difficult. Angel was a great show, and I enjoyed David Boreanaz 10 times more in his own show than I did on Buffy. He actually became interesting, and there was a great supporting cast, especially in Alexis Denisof, Charisma Carpenter, and eventually James Marsters, of course. I had to go with Veronica Mars, though. I loved the tone of the show, and I think Kristen Bell was at her best. The show was really accessible and easy to identify with, and the entire cast had fantastic chemistry. I loved that show from day one, and I still maintain we lost it too soon. Now I really want to scurry off and watch it...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Should have had Stargate SGA in there.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Grimm and Angel. Never saw Veronica Mars, and House- I've seen a few episodes and didn't really care for it one way or another.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The difference is the main character is saving people by bringing down bad guys vs. doing surgery. Grimm has more literal action than any medical drama could ever.

    ReplyDelete
  31. My problem with it is his character wasn't someone I could get attached to. I need characters I like. lol

    ReplyDelete
  32. I voted for Grimm in the first poll.
House was fun when it started but it got repetitive and ridiculous as it went on. How long can one doctor make the mistakes he does 3 or 4 times per episode and keep his license anyway?
Although having 3 relatives who are in the medical profession I always heard how silly the show was at holiday meals. That was good conversation! ? Better than the series! XD

In the second poll,,, you had me at Veronica Mars.
Just such a fun and unique show with nothing like it having been on TV before or since.
Humor combined with drama, a serial mystery combined with weekly procedural themes. It was a perfect hybrid!

So many great supporting cast members that there is rarely a dull episode!

    Grimm
    Veronica Mars

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think House is brilliant but I had to go with Grimm! Angel it was but only because I haven't watched Veronica Mars!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Breaking Bad vs. Game of Thrones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ohh man who made this draw!! you just put my favorite shows against each other before final :(

    ReplyDelete
  35. I never liked the House character so Grimm gets my vote. As for the second though, this one is tough. On gut feeling, it was Veronica Mars that got my vote although Angel was highly enjoyable too.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You should try Veronica Mars. It is incredibly well done.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Bwah! Thanks for the chuckle. I'd add...and be incredibly rude to you in the process.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I know that any show like that could "be accused of causing suffering" - because that's what they're doing. That's why I thought it was interesting that you called House out for it when most tv shows all show that. It's part of the human experience, and apparently tv executives like to make people suffer. :P

    ReplyDelete
  39. HAHA! That's why I stopped around season 4... House wasn't tarnished for me. :)

    And yay, Veronica Mars!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Every time I re-watch the pilot I always laugh when Mr. Mars says " Take back up with you when you go".... knowing of course Back Up is a dog! XD

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ooh i can't wait to see what happens when OUAT goes up against POI,that should be a fun day!

    ReplyDelete
  42. How is Angel not winning?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yeah, there were lots of good lines in VM. Did notice Backup changed from pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well, he wasn't exactly Mr. Sympathy! :)
He should go to Sam Winchester for some lessons in puppy-dog eyeing. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Panos Nestoras29 June 2012 at 21:50

The first one is very easy for me: House. The second was much more difficult as these are two very good shows but Angel gets my vote..

    ReplyDelete
  46. House > Grimm for me. I adore Monroe, but House has more characters I like and the mystery and overall arc of House is better.

The only episodes of Angel I watched were the puppet one and the one where he's a cage fighter, which I enjoyed, so I voted for him. Never watched VM.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I voted for House,i never watched Veronica Mars though she is on my watch list. Angel i didn't like at all,David yes, show no! :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I do intend to watch Veronica Mars myself I've heard good things but can't vote on something I've never watched! :/

    ReplyDelete
  49. Easily Veronica Mars of those two shows. I couldn't even get through all of S1 of Angel, it was so painful to watch. Didn't vote in the other poll since I'm not sure I've ever seen a full episode of House, and the first 5 or so episodes that I watched of Grimm never did anything for me.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I voted for Grimm and Veronica Mars.

    ReplyDelete
  51. But you are voting for it to lose if you vote for Angel. Better to just not vote for the polls where you haven't seen one of the shows unless you know enough about the show you haven't seen to know it couldn't possibly win your vote.

    ReplyDelete
  52. easy current vote difficult canceled vote.

Grimm - a real surprise for me this season. I scoffed at it. Was expecting to walk away any minute and it ended up being one of my favs. I lost interest in HOUSE once the repetitiveness if its formula became too much during season one. Easy vote

Angel and Veronica Mars? Gads. Loved both, but Apples and Oranges. How am I suppose to choose? I could cheat and look at other peoples votes and go with the flow. I got it! Heads = Angel Tails = Veronica Mars

    Tails! Veronica it is.

    ReplyDelete
  53. first was easy: Grimm. second was really hard. i love Angel and Veronica Mars but Angel won...mostly because of the extended development of characters and the fact it was a spin off of my favorite show.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Me too. One of the nice effects of contests like this are that we all hear about shows we never thought of watching, then we go rent the DVD's. My husband and I are watching Breaking Bad from the beginning for that reason.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm going to be very upset to see VM lose tomorrow after having the lead for the entire day. Seriously, if that happens I'm probably hiding away until this whole thing's over. :(

    ReplyDelete
  56. Angel is less than 1% behind the suspense is killing me! I really love the character Angel and the story lines on that show compared to Buffy (which is equally amazing for different reasons). Angel kicked ass!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thanks for that Laura very true indeed! I used to watch Angel way back when, I suppose the character was sold to me me by Buffy lol but I will not vote next time but some of the draws are tough that's for sure? Grimm isn't difficult on the brain but it still entertains!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I chose Grimm in the first pair as even though I've only seen a few House eps and liked them, Grimm's more my kind of show that will probably have a tough time with the 8 seasons of House. AS for the second pair... very tough as I'm trying to catch up on VM after hearing how great it was, and perhaps after more eps I can make a more informed decision, but even despite the Connor/evil Cordy storyline, I loved Angel the Series..... so it gets my vote

    ReplyDelete
  59. The Angel puppet episode was hilarious! The behind the scenes stuff for that episode was also great to watch, puppets and real people fighting to the death is tough to shoot!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Angel didn't slay the dragon, he tamed it (according to the comics)

    ReplyDelete
  61. Wow that was really close. Go Veronica Mars!

    ReplyDelete
  62. So close! Was hoping for Angel to win but clearly VM has a lot of loyal fans. I need to watch that show :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yes you do and let me know if you love Logan as much as I do. lol If you watched Moonlight he was Josef the 400 year old vamp in it.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I would have been good if Angel won too. It was a no lose round for me. I would suggest trying VM though. I watched it 2 summers ago and was pleasantly surprised by how smart it was. Good show.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I did watch Moonlight :D I think my local library has the series on DVD so I will definitely try and watch it this summer!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Sorry V_s I used my phone phone to reply to you and thought it was Laura! I had just got up! lol Good advice and I will act accordingly! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  67. What is going on with the poll, has not been a new one since Friday??

    ReplyDelete
  68. They usually do not have them on the weekends.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Where are they located, this is Monday. lol

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'm not sure where Adam lives i think the UK but i could be wrong..Maybe there he is having a problem with his computer?

    ReplyDelete
  71. OK thanks, wish the SPN polls were back in business, this one is way to slow.

    ReplyDelete
  72. When do we get the next poll?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Something must be wrong, this never happens. I just hope he is alright.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I hope so too, this is a first.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Maybe it is obvious that Supernatural will win AGAIN!! and there is just no cause to continue this competition. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  76. Ha! Oh no it is not obvious, not now! The day will come when SPN doesn't win,and maybe it will be this year? lol....but probably not this year, drats!!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  77. If we will ever experience another winner, we have seen it all. Maybe an Event like "The Event" for half of the SPN voters could help out. Must last of course a bit longer. lol

    ReplyDelete
  78. OK now I am officially worried.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I think we will, for once i would love to see Fringe especially with the end so near. Fringe fans are just as passionate as the SPN fans, but the fact is our numbers are too small, unless we somehow get the word out,and i mean out there, maybe i mean over there! (if you follow Fringe you will understand the last half of the sentence). I don't believe there is another show on this site that could win it.....we'll see!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Hehe, I got your reference. Walter, please build us a device with which we can reach all Alternate Universes Internet users!!
Yeah, the Fringedom is small but therefore much tighter.
I guess Vampire Diaries could also challenge SPN.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I didn't realize there was a big following for Vampire Diaries here.I'm not into vampire shows,i think the overexposure of the the Twilight movies and Anne Rice books turned me off...

    ReplyDelete
  82. Only thought back to previous competitions like the Character Cup where the number of votes were pretty high. I also only watch True Blood due to some characters I enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I know i should check these shows out,they can't be bad,so many people watch them.Actually i think i will,which one would you suggest i try first?

    ReplyDelete
  84. No idea, I also haven't started watching those who have a big viewership. Maybe Person of Interest if you don't know that already. :)

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yep,i watch POI,i missed the last few episodes which i thought i recorded but didn't.Need to play catch up!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Try TVD, they have great story lines and don't have to use all the F words and nudity used in True Blood. Season 2 of True Blood was orgy all the time and this season has stopped my watching. Not into F this F that and mother Fer. I want writers that can write a story without all that.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Thanks for telling me! Yeah,i get pretty tired and turned off by hearing the F word every two seconds, its not necessary! I will try TVD thanks for the suggestion and tip!

    ReplyDelete
  88. You won't be disappointed by the last episodes of this first season.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Thanks! i stayed away from all the comments that were posted, thinking i had it on my dvr...Now i just need to find it,its probably on Hulu, unless i want to hunt for it on the web!

    ReplyDelete
  90. If you need any help...there are a few channels I also had to access since the show hasn't been picked up here and I wanna see the original anyways. :D
