The 2012 STV Favourite TV Series Competition - Day 8 - The Walking Dead vs. NCIS & Arrested Development vs. Flashforward

28 Jun 2012

Hey Folks,

Yesterday was a more quiet day in the office as both polls failed to set the world alight in terms of the number of votes, yet they also were quite close battles which kept things interesting. In the end Homeland saw off NCIS: LA and deservedly progresses through to likely a much tougher round two opponent against The Walking Dead or NCIS. Also Prison Break was never really challenged by Dollhouse, and we are down to three Joss Whedon shows left in the competition.

Today sees two more current and two more finished shows doing battle for a place in the next round.

Firstly we have zombie drama and smash hit The Walking Dead, which has grown in popularity in the gap between season one and two, challenging one of the biggest ratings powerhouses of todays television; NCIS. It'll be an interesting battle between one of network televisions biggest and one of cables.

Secondly we have the ever popular and soon to return Arrested Development trying to become the first all out sitcom to make it into round two. In its way is another show which was cancelled early in its run, a show that divides opinion more than any; Flashforward. With sci-fi so popular on STV I feel Arrested Development has its work cut out today.

If you want to see the draw for the rest of the competition, and see which show will take on which other show then head HERE for a look. Let the voting begin!

  1. Two really easy votes for me today.

Walking Dead is fantastic drama, so that wins hands down.

Arrested Development is one of the best comedies of all time; Flashforward was a pile of poorly written, boring and ridiculous crap with terrible characters.

    Arrested Development wins!

  2. My votes goes for The Walking Dead and Arrested Development!

    ReplyDelete
  3. The Walking Dead get´s my vote, because I like both the story and the cast.

I also voted for FF, because I never watched AD.

    ReplyDelete
  4. NCIS for me, like WD but season is to short. Arrested Development was a fun show that should have been around longer.

    ReplyDelete
  5. NCIS is obvious for me ... but dont watch the other shows at all so i simply voted based on most amount of awards.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Damn, it was really hard to choose between The Walking Dead and NCIS. I went with NCIS!

    ReplyDelete
  7. TWD trumphs NCIS in my books any day. And I never really liked Flashed Forward. Arrested Development however was awesome :)

    ReplyDelete
  8. NCIS and Flash forward

Wow, close polls so far today!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Walking Dead and Arrested Development for me

    ReplyDelete
  10. No-brainer for me today: The Walking Dead and Arrested Development.

    ReplyDelete
  11. NCIS for me today ;)

  12. I give it to NCIS although it no longer entertains me as it once did. However it's miles better than NCIS LA.
I hate zombie stories.in general, so no to the Walking Dead.

    Then Flashforward gets it.
It's just so annoying whaen you watch a show regularly then they chop it to put on something that usually gets even less ratings!
I've never seen Arrested Development but if it's a sit-com count me out!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I have a feeling that first poll is going to stay ridiculously close. I went with The Walking Dead. I've only seen a few episodes, but they hooked me way more than NCIS ever did. The second poll was no question - Arrested Development all the way.

I don't understand why Flashforward is on the list considering it has been gone for like 4 years...I voted anyway. I miss that show.

    ReplyDelete
  15. There's only 11 votes that are separating both polls... that's how close it is!

    ReplyDelete
  16. NCIS and Flashforward, the two I watch.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well, I prefer The Walking Dead, but NCIS has been a pretty quality procedural for almost 10 years, and TWD has some serious pacing issues. I hope those are worked out in season 3 to make this vote worth it: so I go with TWD for now.

As for the second poll, it's obvious: Arrested Development. Arguably one of the best and smartest sitcoms (as well as simply one of the most fun!) I've ever seen. There's a reason they are bringing it back for another new season on Netflix and then making a movie, people!
Also, Fastforward was just one in many attempts to catch the Lost audience as it ended. It just dragged on and got worse as it went further...

  18. I love Sci-fi and time displacement stories and Flash Forward wasn't any worse than many other offerings. I liked the fact that the characters got to see their future, and then most of them tried their best to avoid it!
I had also read the book before hand so I more or less knew what to expect.
    Did you not like it?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Walking Dead was easy, as I don't watch NCIS, but Flash Forward or Arrested Development? Don't dislike either show, but I am not a fan of either. Went for Flash Forward in the end.

    ReplyDelete
  20. NCIS and Flashforward because i didn't watch Arrested Development.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hated it. Thought the characters were so poorly written it hurt. When they survived that rocket launcher blowing up the car they were in unscathed I knew it was time to say goodbye to it :P

    ReplyDelete
  22. I voted for NCIS and flashforward! But tomorrow will be great! Revenge will win

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm glad I'm not the only one who loathed that show.

    ReplyDelete
  24. As much as I love me some Gibbs and Abby, it's starting to show it's age and actually prefer the rerun marathons on USA to the newer episodes so I went with The Walking Dead, even though zombies have saturated the market almost as much as vampires and werewolves it's a well done show. Arrested Development must have went over my head, I didn't like it but it was a critical darling so it has that for them and somebody watched it b/c it got a renewal after all this time but I went with Flashforward because I am a geeky sci-fi loving chick and I felt it got cancelled way too soon (like a lot of genre shows) plus I loved the book and just the whole premise in general.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The Walking Dead & Flashforward, because i have not seen either of the opponents, and i liked both these shows

    ReplyDelete
  26. The Walking Dead and Arrested Development.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Easy as can be today. NCIS and Arrested Development. I watched season 1 of Walking Dead last year and it tied The Mentalist for my least liked show of the summer. While I haven't seen NCIS this season too expensive on iTunes these days - I really enjoy the characters, especially Abby.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Only The Walking Dead for me today.

    ReplyDelete
  29. From you answer I seem to understand that you didn't really like it :P

Well. I'll content myself with the fact that you liked the idea! ( only teasing!)

    ReplyDelete
  30. never thought I'd say this but totally agree
and since they're two of my favorites they're losing, ofc

    ReplyDelete
  31. Just The Walking Dead today. I hope The Walking Dead pass through the next round. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm sure we would agree that the second half of Fringe season 4 was rubbish...

Although I also would hazard a guess you stopped watching Fringe a way before we reached that point :P

    ReplyDelete
  33. yep, was just gonna say :P

    ReplyDelete
  34. The first third of that season of Fringe was terrible (Neither Here Nor There through Wallflower), the middle third was spectacular (Back To Where You've Never Been through The End Of All Things); and the final eight had some bad ones, but was generally strong (the bad ones I'm thinking of are A Short Story About Love and Brave New World: Part Two).

    ReplyDelete
  35. The Walking Dead, even though it's hit or miss, I still like it much better than NCIS. And somehow my beloved Arrested Development is losing. C'MON!

    ReplyDelete
  36. NCIS & FlashForward for me!

    ReplyDelete
  37. So glad your hear, and we finally worked out The next thing is to get instant messaging in real time. Ken has hooked me up with it,all we need is you,so when ever your ready let me know!

    ReplyDelete
  38. If you honestly think Revenge is going to win over Supernatural, well your in for a rude awakening.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I voted Flashforward. I was just getting into when they axed it.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I love TWD but I have a huge amount of respect for NCIS, a show that can pull 20 million viewers a week after so many seasons. In the end I went for TWD because I actually watch it, sorry NCIS. Didnt bother with the other poll FlashForward was a huge disappointment and I never watch AD.

    ReplyDelete
  41. NCIS is really good t.v. Groundbreaking t.v? no.. but so good to watch. Love TWD but still too early in it's run ( it's had 19episodes.. ?) for me to call it a fave.

Arrested Development was/is groundbreaking and fun t.v. loved the cast, loved the humor, loved the show.

    ReplyDelete
  42. That would be a turning point for this site.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Arrested Development! Flashforward had moments of greatness but really really messed up the premise I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  44. which Instant messaging are you using??

    ReplyDelete
  45. NCIS all day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. But could you imagine? Nay,its not going to happen on the last episode of SPN over 700 people voted.Unless they aren't near a computer or smartphone i'm pretty sure that its going to win.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I forget the name of it,when Ken gets back i'll let you know. Its pretty neat. Our screen will pop up a window maybe its 4'x5" which sits on the screen and in that is where we talk. You could it anywhere on the screen, and while we talking we could be doing other things on the computer. When Ken is on the phone with Australia he uses it too, even while he is on skrpe.

  48. No contest for me today.

    The Walking Dead
    Arrested Development

I liked NCIS for a couple seasons until it got repetitive like all procedurals and honestly while I loved the premise of FlashForward, I never thought it found its feet story wise.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Can't believe AD is losing :( Come on! How brilliant is that show?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I voted for The Walking Dead. I didn't vote in the other poll since I don't watch Arrested Development and I couldn't get into Flashforward at all when it was on.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Because i've been watching it since S1, My vote went to NCIS. As with Supernatural, I'm very loyal to those shows that i've been with since their first season. It also helps that I was already familiar with Michael Weatherly (who worked with Jensen on Dark Angel) and Mark Harmon.I've been a fan of both for quite awhile. I didn't vote in the other catagory because I don't watch either of those 2 shows.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I had a Netflix-athon of Arrested Development today. 4-5 hours :D

    ReplyDelete
  53. Arrested Development should be winning by a landslide by now. This is a disappointing showing by AD so far, especially against a show like FlashForward.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I don't watch The Walking Dead, but I love NCIS and have watched it from the beginning. Easy choice. I could not vote for either in the second vote. I don't watch them.

    ReplyDelete
  55. First pairing, TWD easily. As for the second, I had only seen FF until last week when I finally decided to watch AD S1 and ended up tearing thru the entire 3 seasons because it was that good. Unusual as a serialized comedy, with a stellar ensemble cast, fantastic guest stars and even better writing. I was bummed that I never watched it live, but am looking forward to the netflix S4 and the movie that's coming with excitement. I liked FF, but it pales in comparison to AD..

    ReplyDelete
  56. Walking Dead for all it's flaws (esp since I don't watch cop shows).

Flash Forward was just dreadful - good pilot, but all downhill from there.

Arrested Development - few shows have tickled me so - Parks and Rec comes closest these days.

    ReplyDelete
  57. That's on my to-do list before summer ends too.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Nobrainer...Walking Dead and Arrested Development (although I haven't watched it yet :( ) for me.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks Laura I am now on Trillian! :)

    Sent from the Yobbit

  60. I mush preferred the first half of season four... the final episodes from a short story about love is where it all went wrong for me. It failed to deliver anything it set up in the first half of the season, and went down some poorly conceived and disappointing angle.

I did quite enjoy Letters of Transit, but it's successes rely on there being a good season 4 to go with it

    ReplyDelete
  61. Why is there a old photo of ncis. It should have Ziva, McGee, Leon and Palmer.
    They should win

    ReplyDelete
  62. should of got a newer picture of ncis with palmer in it.
