Hope you all had a nice Sunday, and are raring and ready for the next day in the STV Series competition. When we last met there were a couple of surprise victories as the 2010 finalist The Wire exited in round one with a miserable 47.74% defeat to The OC. Maybe time isn't sitting as well with The Wire fans, or they've all moved on, but it's a result that didn't sit well with many folks in the comments. Perhaps less surprisingly but more expectedly Nikita defeated the critically acclaimed The Good Wife with 56.62% of the votes. Both Nikita and The OC did well to reach round two, but whether they can push their challenge on further will be tough.
Today sees two more current and two more finished shows doing battle for a place in the next round.
Firstly we have the police procedural The Mentalist, loved by many due to Simon Baker's exceptional lead role, challenging the little show that could, Chuck. Both shows are incredibly fun to watch, and both have large fan bases so it should make for an interesting battle.
Secondly we have a former The WB favourite Gilmore Girls challenging Zach Braff's quirky comedy hit Scrubs. Both of these shows also maintain passionate fans online, so it's a tough one to call.
If you want to see the draw for the rest of the competition, and see which show will take on which other show then head HERE for a look. Let the voting begin!

My votes went to Chuck and Scrubs today, as they were good fun and entertaining series! :)
ReplyDeleteAgain only one for me to vote on, Chuck it is.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, both shows I followed nearly up until the end. The Closer and Gilmore Girls, very unlikely that if I would watch those, they could beat Chuck and Scrubs.
ReplyDeleteChuck and Gilmore Girls.
ReplyDeleteChuck
ReplyDeleteChuck and Gilmore Girls.I haven't watched the other two.
ReplyDeleteI got tired of Chuck after a couple of seasons,to be honest, but it was fun while I watched.
Gilmore Girls wins if only for the dialogues.I really liked it!
Chuck and Scrubs. Although it was really hard to choose between GG and Scrubs!
ReplyDeleteOh this is an easy one for me :) Chuck and Gilmore Girls!
ReplyDeleteChuck (but it wasn't easy) and GG
ReplyDeleteChuck! I didn't watch either Gilmore Girls and had a strong dislike for Scrubs so i didn't vote.
ReplyDeleteIt's all about Chuck and Scrubs for me :)
ReplyDeleteThe Mentalist!!!!! the one and only<3333333333
ReplyDeleteFor those who the other day expressed interest in The Wire, I did some Googling for you:
ReplyDeleteThese are in most libraries, around me anyway. Or you can get the entire set from Amazon for $114.44 new, or $62 used. It's about $62 on eBay also. Amazon UK has it for 54.60 pounds. We got our set of The Wire new for about $80.00 when Best Buy had a pre-Christmas sale.
About today's choices, haven't watched enough of any of today's to justify voting. I thought Scrubs was cute, but it wasn't appointment TV.
And if you don't have the money, but have HBO GO you could always watch it there!
ReplyDeleteChuck and Gilmore Girls. No contest for me.
ReplyDeleteOnly Chuck for me today. Such a fun series
ReplyDeleteChuck and Scrubs.
ReplyDeleteJust Scubs for me
ReplyDeleteits pretty obvious fringe will win hands down... everyone on this website loves it!!

ReplyDeleteGo, Jane, Go J.D.
ReplyDelete(Im so non-on the Winner Side! But everything can change. This is the Game. So com'on Guys, Vote!!!)
The Mentalist and Gilmore Girls for me ;)
ReplyDeleteChuck & Gilmore Girls
ReplyDeletegood choice! ;)
ReplyDeleteChuck and Gilmore Girls ♥
ReplyDeleteI like both Chuck and the Mentalist, but went with Chuck mainly because the show would feature more of it's ensemble cast than just the title character than the Mentalist does. And as for the second pairing, Scrubs easily got my vote as GG isn't really my kind of show even though I know that it had a big following.
ReplyDeleteThis was an easy round for me :) Chuck and Gilmore Girls. Chuck because it was all kinds of awesome, and Gilmore Girls for the hilarious dialouge (and the fact that I've hardly watched and episode of Scrubs in my life, haha).
ReplyDeleteThe Mentalist is an ok show, but I got a little bored with it after a while to be honest...
This is the hardest round so far for me. The first one is easy. I can't stand Simon Baker so Chuck gets my vote. I only watched a couple of seasons of Chuck but it was enjoyable. The second one is impossible. Gilmore Girls was one of my favorite series in the beginning but then became unwatchable towards the end. Scrubs was good fun throughout but nothing I rearranged my schedule for. Will have to think about this one. My vote will probably go to whichever one is losing tonight.
ReplyDeleteIt's also available on disc at Netflix.
ReplyDeleteChuck always :D
ReplyDeleteThe mentalist and Gilmore Girls. obsessed with both shows.
ReplyDeleteChuck and Gilmore Girls!
ReplyDeleteChuck & Gilmore Girls!!! I still love them both!
ReplyDeleteI only voted once this time around. Chuck gets my vote, no question. Despite its waning viewership and the "will they/won't they renew" drama every year, I remained a devoted fan from start to finish. Zachary Levi and Adam Baldwin were absolutely fantastic from week to week, and the supporting cast shined as well. They also exited on a high note, I believe. The final 13 episodes were pretty kick-ass, and I may be among the few that loved the choice that the writers made in the finale. I think it was a brilliant show that was finished before its time, and I'm still sad that more people didn't stick with it.
ReplyDeletePhew. I'm glad I got that off my chest :)
Oh my god, how Scrubs isn't winning, imo it's the best comedy i've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteChuck and Scrubs. Sad about The Wire but not surprised it doesn't really have a strong fandom which is a shame as it's definitely in my top 10 all time favourites.
ReplyDeleteRunning shows: Though I love The Mentalist I voted for Chuck cause I think it has a more niche quality whereas as good as the Mentalist might be it's not quite as special and unique.
ReplyDeleteEnded shows: Despite being disappointed with GG's final season and a half, when it was good it was GREAT and I've never really watched Scrubs so Gilmore Girls it is!!
Chuck and Scrubs.I can't believe GG is winning.
ReplyDeleteThese were easy choices for me today. I voted for Chuck and Gilmore Girls.
ReplyDeleteWhere's the Chuck love? Come on people - we saved Chuck from a horrible network for numerous seasons - let's help it move on here. (and for what it's worth ,if the Wire is out, Chuck has a good chance to go a distance this year if that's the case).
ReplyDeleteGilmore Girls! Been watching reruns recently, Rory just found out about Paris and Prof Flemming which was both a disturbing and amusing story line. I could watch episodes over and over, the scripts are so fast paced and well written. Also the music of the show was always so distinct with all the "la la la" (don't know who the music is by but enjoying it on Bunheads!). In a somewhat unrelated comment can I just say how sad I am that Bones and TBBT didn't make it past round 1 T__T
ReplyDeleteChuck and Gilmore Girls
ReplyDeleteNot a Mentalist fan. Chuck had some hard to watch eps but even those I've liked better than Mentalist. Gilmore Girls was a pleasure, while I watched. Scrubs...I never could figure out what the critics saw in it. I can't remember even smiling during a single ep. It seemed to be in that class fo NBC sitcom that I was not the target audience for. For me...never funny.
Awww Chuck, much like the show, you started strong and faded towards the end. :(
ReplyDeleteI quite enjoyed the first couple of seasons of the Mentalist but then it wore off.
ReplyDeleteHe became too know it all, and that got annoying although I really like the other members of the cast.
I've never watched Chuck, but the fact that it's listed as comedic just didn't pull me in.
X
I've seen a few eps of GG on morning repeats but other than Jared, it's not my thing.
Scrubs, hospital drama + comedy, not my thing again.
X
I'll just vote for the shows that are losing near the end of the poll.
Go go go for The Mentalist !
