  2. Okay, this wasn't even on my radar. Now it is.

  3. Really, really good show, can't wait to see the pilot. Great cast too.

  4. A cable channel would be a better place for such kind of a show. I'm not sure people will like it. Why? Because of the same reason they didn't like 'The Playboy club'. The action takes place during the 60es - everything looks gorgeous and stylish and all, but... it's not what works nowadays. The show is about the past, and people like shows about the present or even the future. I have a feeling this is gonna be a huge flop. Don't know why, just a feeling.

  5. I loved the concept (and forgot about it) when it was called Ralph Lamb, but now that it's christened Vegas I love and adore the project.

My pick for #1 new drama of the year.

  6. I think there is one important and very big difference between this and Pan Am or Playboy Club.... This is about the story and not the 1960's.

The reason (other than bad acting and execution) that Pan Am and The Playboy Club failed is they were obvious attempts to capitalize on the 60's coming back into vogue. They created the story around the era as a way to show off the 60's charm.

Vegas is not about the 60's, but the based on reality story that happened to take place in the 60's.

Plus it does not hurt that this series has talented actors unlike the aforementioned series. And lastly it has the added benefit of following 2 of the more successful shows on TV right now (NCIS and NCIS: LA) with virtually no competition in the Tuesday 9pm time slot.

That all said, it could still fail of course. Easily too I suppose. I just have the same feeling about it I had with Hawaii Five-O and Person of Interest and they turned out to be the #1 New Dramas of their seasons.

  7. ''This is about the story and not the 1960's''
I'm pretty sure the authors of Pan Am and The Playboy Club had exactly the same idea. At least that is how they intended to present it. But if you're making a show which is set in the 60s, there must be a point in that, right?

''The reason (other than bad acting and execution)..''

People don't give a crap about 'bad acting and execution'. Had it been so, half of all the scripted shows on tv would've been cancelled by now=)). They look for what is 'fun' and 'cool'. It's actually a tough job to grab attention and make people sit through all hour at 10 pm. And even tougher to make them return to watch your show the next week.

As for H50 and POI, I knew they would be very successful from the very beginning. They both have handsome males in their leads. In both of them, good guys beat the crap out of bad guys with style, plus both of them have huge goverment and mob related conspiracies as storylines. People love that stuff.

  8.  I think this will be one show that makes it into the top ten this year. With Quaid, O'Mara, Chiklis, and Moss in this i think we'll be in for a good time!

Besides, isn't this where us older folks go to watch tv? I think i heard that somewhere,ha!

  9. I like it more, the more I see of it.

  10. I've heard that us older folks like Harry's Law, but I don't. You and I like Fringe and we're out of the demographic. We're young at heart, dear.

  11. Ha! I thought as i got older i would change,or something in my mind would change, but my mind doesn't feel any older, wiser yes, more opinionated yes,but i also feel liberated, just wish my body felt that way :P but i'm not complaining! Yes we are young at heart, maybe in 20 years i will like Harry's Law....no i doubt it,it will be Fringe, the X-Files, Farscape, and a few others till the day i take my last breath...

I've been thinking about you today with this weather,i here it was suppose to be hot by you, hope your staying cool!!!  :)

  12. I know what you mean. I don't feel my age and you can't tell my age by my tv tastes.

Not so bad today, but it's supposed to be in the 90s on Memorial Day. Hey, that's nothing for Chicago weather. It will get worse (thank God for AC).

  13. That was great! What day will it be on?

  14. Well I love NCIS LA and I will also def be tuning into Vegas.

  15. "People don't give a crap about 'bad acting and execution'."

I beg to differ. If NCIS had been led by Robert Pattinson as Gibbs, Justin Long as DiNozzo and Lindsay Lohan as Ziva, do you honestly think it would have the same ratings, that it consistently has had since the start?

Sure, with those names involved, the show might've gotten -some- viewers, but not nearly as many as they've had for 9 years, and certainly not the -same- audience.

(FYI, insert random "scrub" actors in the above examples. The actors who actually PLAY the roles in the series, are suited for them. The show wouldn't work with different actors in those roles.)

  16. NCIS is a prime example of why acting doesn't matter and nobody cares. NCIS has its ratings only because people love the chemistry between DiNozzo and Ziva, plus it's a fast-paced procedural drama, especially the one that revolves around the U.S. Navy, the Army etc, all that counter- terrorist plots and so on... Aside from that, it's just another pretty much standard murder show with tons of cliches.

And why did you bring the names of 'scrub' actors up, anyway? They weren't chosen to play the part, (I'm certain they neither showed any interest nor were even considered to play the parts, lol) not because 'they suck as actors', but rather because they do not fit the roles. They're all look like teenagers. It's simply not what the studio wants.

Plus, I've got a way better example: 'The Good Wife' has won Emmys for acting performances (unlike NCIS btw, suck it haha), but it didn't help it from falling into the abyss of low ratings, where it's being kept alive solely for syndication purposes. (According to TVBTN)

  17. Ain't acting subjective? I think some like the acting of Pattinson and Long. I dont know about their acting, but i did not get any feeling form the 5-6 seasons of NCIS i watched that the actors where good either. Maybe Mark Harmon, but i liked him on ER or Chicago Hope (?) before NCIS so that may hurt my judgement.

Yes i agree a lot on NCIS being a prime example of acting or story does not matter. People like simple stuff, the casual viewers like that. Even pickyMe like that sometimes (i watch CSI, but i favor Game of Thrones, Louie, Justified, Breaking Bad and so on).
A great actor in a leading role, or in the show does not matter. Hugh Jackman as a example. I know that show was kinda a bad, and i only remember it as a nightmare as all the horrible things my girlfriend ended showing me on Glee. Oh god i dont understand Glee.

Also you have a show called Community on NBC that nobody watches. Even tough the (comedic) acting and the show is great, nobody watches it. Sure it is on NBC, but "nobody" was watching it before it went all viral and stuff on Twitter and the critics loved it. And should i bring up the fact that Whitney got almost more viewers than Community? I know Community has a more sought out half hour on Thursdays, but still. It should have gotten more viewers by the fact its all viral and that much critical acclaimed. NOBODY CARES ABOUT IT!I would feel a lot safer with Vegas on a cable myself. Not necessarily HBO, FX, or something like that. Maybe TNT or USA. USA Network i feel like needs to go more off-brand.
