Supernatural - Favorite Season 7 Episode - Poll

22 May 2012

In our attempt to make hellatus pass by, we are looking to do several polls/contests this summer. Today starts the poll for favorite season 7 episode. While based on comments it sounds like Death's Door will prevail, I wouldn't count out the 2 opening episodes. Or who knows? Maybe another episode will take the crown. Today we will do a poll of all episodes. The top 12 chosen will automatically make it into the round. The bottom 11 will compete in a wild card contest where 4 will make it in. (We do wild card placements because some fans were concerned that their favorites didn't have ample opportunity to get into our contest last summer. This hopefully will make it seem more fair all around.)

Like all polls (with the exception of ranking and nominations), this one will stay open for approximately 24 hours. You can only vote once per IP address but you can choose up to 4 episodes today. If you haven't participated in our ultimate episode ranking polls or quote nominations from the Pilot and Wendigo yet, you have until Saturday, St. Louis time to do so. (CST in the USA)

Nominations for best quote continue. Please nominate your two favorites each from Dead in the Water and Phantom Traveler. Nominations will remain open for one week.

  1. Dead in the Water Quotes -

    5.  Sam:  "Kids are the best?  You don't even like kids."  Dean:
    "I love kids."
    Sam:  "Name 3 children that
    you even know."

    4.  Dean:  "You know Sam, we are allowed to have
fun once in awhile.  That's fun."

    3.  Sam:  "So, I think it's safe to say we can
    rule out Nessie."

    2.  Andrea:  "It must be hard with your sense of
direction, never being able to find your way to a decent pick-up line."

    1.
    Dean:  "You're scared.  It's okay.
I understand.  See when I was your
age I saw something real bad happen to my mom and I was scared too.  I didn’t feel like talking just like
you.  But see, my mom, I know she wanted
me to be brave.  I think about that every
day and I do my best to be brave.  And
maybe your dad wants you to be brave too."

    Phantom Traveler Quotes -

    5.  Dean:  "Does that look like a creature's lair
    to you?"

    4.  Sam:  "Just try to relax."  Dean:
    "Just try to shut up."

    3.  Dean:   "Yeah, a middle aged dentist with an ulcer
    is not exactly evil personified."

    2.  Dean:  "Man, I look like one of the Blues
Brothers."  Sam:  "No you don't.  You look more like a seventh grader at his
    first dance."

    1.  Dean:  "Dude, stow the touchy-feely self-help
    yoga cr**.  It's not helping."

  2. The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo was head and shoulders the best episode of the season for me.

    ReplyDelete
  3. The first 2 episodes of the season were amazing and got me excited for the season, Death's Door was incredibly well-thought out and disheartening, and then The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragon's Tattoo was pretty good and one of the few ones I liked after Death's Door this season.

  4. Five favorite are:

    1 - Death's Door
    2 - Time After Time
3 - Meet The New Boss
4 - The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo
    5 - Slice Girls

  5. I thought Felicia Day knocked that one out of the park.  Excellent episode!  For me though, Slash Fiction was slightly better because the brothers saved the day in that one and we got the awesome diner dialogue with the LeviaChesters.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I also thought the first two episodes were extremely strong.  They kicked off the season very well.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Glad to see Time After Time getting some love.  I thought it was well-balanced and a lot of fun.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Death's Door and The Born Again Identity. There are many good episodes. That wasn't a problem with the season. The problem with Sera was always about the arc not the individual episodes.

  9. Also Robbie Thompson is a genious.

  11. Let the studying begin!  I shall return after reading all the episode descriptions and rewatch the two quotable eps....oddly, two of my least favorite of the series.  :-D

  12. DEAD IN THE WATER

Dean: You don't think I want to find Dad as much as you do?
Sam: Yeah, I know you do. It's just that -
Dean: I'm the one who's the been with him every single day for the past two years while you've been off to college going to pep rallies. We will find Dad, but until then, we're going to kill everything bad between here and there. Okay?

Dean:All right, if you're gonna be talking now, this is a very important phrase, so I want you to repeat it one more time.Lucas: Zeppelin rules!Dean:That's right. Up high.PHANTOM TRAVELERSam:Yeah, he told me. It was a poltergeist?Man:Poltergeist? Man, I loved that movie.Jerry:Hey, nobody's talking to you. Keep walking. Damn right it was a poltergeist, practically tore our house apart.DEAN:Man, I look like one of the Blues Brothers.SAM:No, you don't. You look more like a...seventh-grader at his first dance.

  16. I too felt that more episodes in this season were excellent than in most seasons.  However I also agree that the mytharc was noticeably weaker.  It's odd because episode-by-episode this is one of my favorite seasons but it didn't have the excitement or fulfillment of season 2.

    ReplyDelete
  17. These two will be in my vote too.  I think HtWFaIM was criminally overlooked this season.  It was by far the funniest episode and yet was also a good action and drama piece too.  One of my all-around favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sorry to hear that.  Dead in the Water is the episode that turned Supernatural from a liked TV show into an obsession for me.  To this day I remember exactly when I decided this was the best TV show I had watched in a long time.  When Dean crouches down to get eye level with Lucas and really talks to him instead of at him and allows himself to be vulnerable in front of him, my heart melted a little and SPN has been appointment TV ever since.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have the first quote for DitW on my short take list.  I loved that part.  Also I thought I was the only one who laughs each time with the Poltergeist line.  I don't even know who said it but it's one of those lines that always sticks out in my mind.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hello, Cruel World, Slash Fiction, Death's Door, The Girl with the Dungeons & Dragons Tattoo

    ReplyDelete
  21. The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo is doing amazingly well in this poll.  I expected it to make it in the top 12 but not to be the number 1 voted episode.  Pretty cool.  Guess this means they have to get Felicia Day back to guest star next season.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It just some random guy who works for Jerry. Makes me laugh every time i hear it too.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Exchange TgwtD&DT with HtWF&IM (man those are long titles) and you have my vote.  Hey, are you going to do something like this for Fringe?  It would be interesting to see what people's favorite episodes were.  My guess is that the winner comes from the second half of the season, or at least once things were more back to normal.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Choosing episodes was a lot harder than I was expecting, cause even though the arc with the Leviathans was somewhat lacking, most individual episodes were excellent!

-Meet the New Boss(it was a toss up between this one and Hello,Cruel World)
    -Death's Door
    -The Born-Again Identity
    -Survival of the Fittest.

A lot of very honorable mentions:Hello,Cruel World,Slash Fiction,How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters,Time After Time,Repo Man,The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragon Tattoo,Reading is Fundamental.
Like I said,we had some pretty amazing episodes this season!

    Okay,quotes...
    Dead in the Water:
    -  Sam: "Kids are the best? You don't even like kids."
       Dean: "I love kids."
Sam: "Name three children that you even know."

    - Dean: "Oh god,we're not going to have to hug or anything, are we?"

    Phantom Traveler:
    - Dean: "This is gonna sound nuts, but we don't have the time for the whole the-truth-is-out-there speech,so..."

    - Sam: "Just try to relax."
Dean: "Just try to shut up."

  26. eep!  Shoot.. I've already forgotten my picks.  Slash Fiction, Death's Door, The Born Again Identity, Time After Time.  ( I think that's what I clicked.  That's wheedled down from 8.)

My tops on the quotes.  Nominated are marked with *
    Dead in the Water
    *  Sam: "Kids are the best?  You don't even like kids."  Dean: "I love kids." Sam:"Name three children that you even know." Dean: "I'm thinking."
    *  Sam: "Door number two sounds good."  Sheriff: "That's the one I'd pick."
Sam: "Who are you? And what have you done with my brother?" Dean; "Shut up."

    Phantom Traveler

Dean: "That's not fear.  That is precaution."
Extra:  "Poltergeist.  Man, I loved that movie!"
    * Dean: "Man,  I look like one of the Blues Brothers."
Jerry: "If you fellows will excuse me. I have an idiot to fire."
Dean: "Come on. Really. Man"  (this one is all about the delivery)
    * Sam:  "Just try to relax." Dean: "Just try to shut up."

  27. It is important that I sad "least favorite" and not worst.  I don't think the quality of the eps was bad.  Though I must confess that its more than slightly possible that my fear of flying is at the root of why I usually skip rewatching Phantom Traveler.  (I was on a flight that had to make in emergency landing in the 80s.  I'm still a bad flyer and have gotten to a point where I avoid it whenever possible.)

For me Bloody Mary was when I knew there was going to be more to the series, for me,  than bubble gum.  That was followed by Skin which was the first ep to make me scoot to the edge of my seat.

    ReplyDelete
  28. My top five, in order of how much I liked them (from most to least).

    1. The Girl With the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo
    2. Meet the New Boss
    3. Death's Door
    4.  Survival of the Fittest
    5. The Born-Again Identity

    ReplyDelete
  29.  God, I hope so! She's been my favorite guest star this season. She even beat out James Marsters/Charisma Carpenter for me and I'm a diehard Buffy fanatic. *shrugs*

  30. Maybe if I get more time. That would be really fun :)
I am about to finish the maymester so that might happen!

  32. This doesn't necessarily reflect my ratings in the polls at the time, since those often were a gut reaction and partially influenced by my expectations.

Awesome episodes:  Meet the New Boss, Death's Door

Great episodes:  Hello Cruel World, How to Win Friends, Time After Time, Plucky's, Repo Man, Borne Again, Reading is Fundamental

OK episodes:  Girl Next Door, Slash Fiction, Slice Girls, Of Grave Importance, Girl With Dungeons, There Will Be Blood, Survival of the Fittest

Poor episodes: Shut Up Dr. Phil, The Mentalists (loses points mostly for the brother dynamics that made no sense), Time for a Wedding, Out with the Old, Party On Garth

Salt-and-burn episodes:  Defending Your Life, Adventures in Babysitting

As always, I have a couple of complaints against it. Namely Bobby suddenly being a crack shot and that bibbing, while cool sounding, really makes no sense whatsoever when you think about it.

But the good far outweighed the bad for me.  And even if I skip the rest of the season, that'll definitely make it onto the rewatch list.  "Do you wanna look like a hostess?" ; Big Bird, Ken Doll and Creepy Uncle ; high Dean ; glampers ; world is a suicide case (sad, yes, but also kind of an awesome line).

And Hello Cruel World was damn near perfect!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Is an amazing episode, fun and one of the best of Supernatural history.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I voted Death's Door, The Born-Again Identity, Reading Is Fundamental, and Survival of the Fittest.

    ReplyDelete
  36. My fav episodes all had to do with the myth arc, Sam's hallucinations, Bobby, or Cas. Except I did enjoy Time After Time a lot. All others were blah to me. I didn't hate any of them with a passion, but they weren't the best either, IMO.

thats the way the episode votes are rolling i am agree with the results (all over 100 points)

  38. Best episodes of season 7:

    4. - The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo
    3. - Plucky Pennywhistle's Magic Menagerie
    2. - Meet the New Boss
    1. - Reading is Fundamental

    Worst:
    4. - Season 7, Time for a Wedding!
    3. - Time After Time
    2. - Shut Up, Dr. Phil
    1. - The Slice Girls

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think Sera found and hacked this poll. Her episodes are currently in first, second, third, and fifth place.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The best was the second eppy, Hello, Cruel World.  I knew a soon as I watched it that it would be my favorite all season.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Plucky's is my top funny episode of all time because how can you beat a unicorn shooting rainbows out its ass? Survival because it set up for a potentially awesome take on season 8. Girl because it was just geeky awesomeness. Death's Door because it was so heartbreaking.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Good luck with finals then.

    ReplyDelete
  43. That's my general synopsis of the entire season too.  Excellent individual episodes and a weak mytharc.  I debated between Meet the New Boss and Hello Cruel World too.  Went with the later because there was less ramming down our throats of the political and religious views of TPTB, but I thoroughly liked Meet the New Boss besides that.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The whole Sheriff monologue after he informs them that he knows they are not feds blew me away.  I thought that was one of the best speeches by a one-shot character in the whole series.

    ReplyDelete
  45. It's nice to know that other people liked Jerry too.  For such a small character, his lines made me laugh.  The "idiot to fire" and "Poltergeist" lines being my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I would definitely have Girl Next Door on the worst list.  It gave us the horrendous Amy subplot that dragged on far, far too long.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I just rewatched Plucky and I still love the ending.  It's such a joy to watch the brothers in sync and laughing.  Who knew glitter bombing and a slinky could bring me such joy.

    ReplyDelete
  48. You have to hand it to the unicorn, it sure gave SPN some much needed press in places it never gets a mention.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I suppose I could give that one an honorable mention.  After all, the existence of "Girl Next Door" is partly responsible for why "The Slice Girls" was so bad.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I was definitely riding a high after the first two episodes.  I loved all the action and how jumped right into the main event.

    ReplyDelete
  51.  I was still amazed that they played that clip on The Soup with Joel McHale.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Phantom Traveler is probably one of my favorites in the first season.  I love the banter between the boys.

Sam: If she's possessed, she'll flinch at the name of God.
    Dean: Oh, Nice.
    Sam: Hey,
    Dean: What?
    Sam: Say it in Latin.
    Dean: I know.
    Sam: Hey!
    Dean: What?
Sam: Uh, in Latin, its Christo
Dean: Dude, I know I'm not an idiot!

    And

    Sam: You're humming Metallica?
    Dean:  It calms me down!

    I crack up every time!

    ReplyDelete
  53. The humming Metallica is a classic.  That one cracks me up too.

  54. Top 5 Favorite Episodes of season 7 in order of preference:

    1. Survival Of The Fittest
    2. The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo
    3. Reading Is Fundamental
    4. Death's Door
    5. Plucky Pennywhistle's

I also liked Meet The New Boss, Hello Cruel World, How To Win Friends,The Born-Again Identity, and There Will Be Blood. I concur with the idea that while there were many great individual eps, the pacing of the Leviathan arc (nothing for most of the season and then everything crammed into the last 5 episodes) was detrimental to the season as a whole. Although once we did get down to the plot, I did like it, especially how it all came to a head in the season finale, plus the awesome cliffhanger. Looking forward to 8!

  55.  dead in the water:

Dean: I'm the one that's been with him every single day for the past two years. While you've been off to college going to pep rallies

Sam: You know, um... what you said about Mom. You never told me that before.
Dean: It's no big deal... Oh God, we're not gonna have to hug or anything, are we?

    phantom traveler:

Dean: That's not fear, that's precaution.

    Sam: Just try to relax.
Dean: Just try to shut up!

third choice would have been the exchange with the EMF because it show that Dean is smart too (and it shows Sam can be sarcastic too)

Sam: Yeah, I know what an EMF meter is, but why does that one look like a busted up old walkman?
Dean: Cause that's what I made it out of. It's homemade.
Sam: Yeah, I can see that.
