The results are in and the Favorite Season 7 Episode is.....Survival of the Fittest. With number of votes cast almost tripling any of the previous polls, things looked a lot different than they started out. Thanks to everyone promoting these polls through Twitter, FB, Google+, Tumblr, etc. The more people we have then more fun it is and the quicker hellatus seems to go. Remember that we will have a SPN poll daily (except during the SpoilerTV Best Show Contest, the STV Character Cup, and my vacation) sothere's a lot more fun to be had. Before we head into the big head=to-head to crown the Ultimate SPN Episode, we have another poll left from the winter hiatus. We had gotten all the way to the final choices in our Best Comedy contest when hiatus stopped. So without further ado, the choices for Best Comedy are Changing Channels and the French Mistake. Happy voting!
Tomorrow we start filling the wild card spaces for our Ultimate Episode Contest. 101 episodes have already made it into the contest. We have 27 spaces left to fill for an even 128 head-to-head contest. Make sure your favorites make it into the contest. Also don't forget to nominate your favorite quotes for Hell House and Something Wicked for our quote contest. Lots going on this hellatus so check in daily!

I expect to be in teh minority here, but my vote for Best Comedy goes to Changing Channels. It is in my top 25 Best SPN episodes and I love how I laughed throughout but I was also shocked and awed too.
ReplyDeleteHell House Noms:
not in the minority according to my tastes! As much as I laughed and enjoyed The French Mistake, I find Changing Channels more enjoyable for the way it plays on current TV genres and tropes. It got my vote as well.
ReplyDeleteLooks like this fandom has more fans of Sera Gamble than I thought!
ReplyDeleteChanging Channels was hilariously awesome in so many ways! It easily gets my vote. While French Mistake was funny, how it contributed to the story I hated so that sours the episode for me.
ReplyDeleteThe French Mistake was great, but it cannot possibly beat Changing Channels
ReplyDeleteI agree wholeheartedly. The spoofs of the TV shows were phenomenal but the real punch came on the dramatic side too. It's like Mystery Spot for me but with a far bigger twist.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest concern about French Mistake is that Castiel, after making such drastic plans to stop Raphael, just let her/him go at the end. It didn't make sense to me. Other than that, I like French Mistake a whole lot better than I ever expected to. Just not anywhere close to Changing Channels.
ReplyDeleteSera Gamble has always been lauded as a writer in the fandom as a whole. Looking at the list of what she has contributed to the show, especially as a writer, it is easy to see why. My prediction is that Sera will end up being second only to Kripke in fan esteem when the show finally ends. She has done an awful lot for SPN.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I laughed even harder when they were making fun of David Caruso. That man annoys me to no end as an actor. I also thought it was brilliant to spoof the other big show it was up against, Grey's Anatomy. Having Dean secretly like that show made me laugh until my sides hurt.
ReplyDeleteSurprised survival of the fittest won. I voted for it but I was sure deaths door had it hands down
ReplyDeleteAs for this poll. This was an exceptionally hard decision. I absolutely love both episodes and I reckon they tie in both episode quality and comedy quantity. I ended uP voting changing channels just because I love it so much, it was so smart and different, extremely funny and had the trickster in it and the Gabriel reveal. But I don't care who wins in anyway. I love both completely
Omg, I have to start using that last line, I'm also the oldest! I really need
ReplyDeleteTo rewatch all of season 1 again. I miss these episodes
Fair warning - little brothers do not find it as funny as I do. Of course that's because I am always right. Dean said so. It must be true. :-P
ReplyDeleteOh and I highly recommend a season 1 rewatch for everyone. Some great episodes in that one.
I'm good with either one winning too. As for the best s7 episode poll, I think if the same people had voted as did in all the other polls, Death's Door would have won by a small margin. However, we got an influx of new voters which drastically changed things. If those voters continue to participate we may see some major upsets to the usual STV SPN polls. It should be exciting!
ReplyDeleteAnd ironically have twists relating to the same character. :P
ReplyDeleteYes! That's exactly my gripe with it! It made absolutely no sense to me that Castiel would just let Raphael get away. French Mistake was funny for sure, but that decision really soured the episode for me. Where Changing Channels was gold all the way through.
ReplyDeleteNo contest for me either. Changing Channels was an epic episode.
ReplyDeleteThere was so much happening in it; never a dull moment and just so entertaining from the whacky tv programmes, starting whith the Incredible Hulk to the japanese game show, CSI. etc to the wonderful ending with the Gabriel/Trickster.
A perfect mix of comedy and high drama!
The French Mistake on the other hand was lacking in everything.
There was no suspense or tension of any kind.
Once the brothers realised where they were, they placidly strolled through the episode.
They were never in any danger. No magic, No angels, just "Oohs and Aahs" at what they saw around them. That was supposed to be the comedy!
Then Sam and Dean act every day of their lives in their own reality, from Feds to Priests, and the fact that they were made to perform like two imbeciles in front of the cameras was just demeaning for them.
Apart from that I disliked it because it was meta.
I remember Jared once saying that he didn't watch the episodes for months after they were shot because he could remember all the details and jokes during the filming of them and wouldn't be able to appreciate them until he had forgotten a little about them.
Well, I can understand him perfectly.
To watch a TV show, especially one like Supernatural, you have to suspend your disbelief if the Winchester brothers and their adventures are to be felt as real, but when they show you exactly how false every single thing is ( although we already know that ), it completely ruins my enjoyment, for my disbelief gets knocked on the head and I am forced see the show for what it really is, a plywood set in a Canadian Warehouse with dozens of people surrounding "Sam and Dean" as they unfold their story and I don't want to see that.
I have to be able to convince myself while I watch an episode that I'm really seeing Dean and Sam, two brothers who would and have died for each other, in the Impala, on the backroads of America, rock music blaring from the radio.
If I want to see how the show is filmed I'll watch the extras on the DVD.
Oh man, the Grey's spoof is what does it for me. And Dean as a fan? Epic. The fact that he realizes it's not really Dr. Sexy because of the cowboy boots? Yeah, I laugh so hard...and Sam's face. Oh, this episode! (and it's a Carver-baby!)
ReplyDeleteReally difficult choice but I had to vote for Changing Channels. Loved French Mistake, but...Sam as KITT...pushed it over the top for me.
ReplyDeleteHell House is one of those episodes that has slowly grown on me.
ReplyDeleteIt is unparalleled for the prank war and for the absolute cuteness of Sam and Dean in it; and bonus points for getting to see what Sammy is like under all those layers!
Quotes:-
1) Dean: I thought the legend said that Mordechai only goes after chicks. Sam: It does. Dean: Right. Well, I mean, that explains why he went after you, but why me?
2 )Sam: That prank stuff—it’s stupid, and it always escalates. Dean: Oh, what’s the matter, Sammy, you afraid you’re gonna get a little Nair in your shampoo again, huh?
Something Wicked was our first encounter with the sad story of the little Winchesters which would then be continued in the marvellous AVSC.
Michael's story was to give us a parallel of how older brothers would do anything for their little brothers and that once Dean had nearly failed little Sammy, and for me it all worked like clock-work.
The monster story was interesting too and young Sam and Dean so heartbreaking; but I hated how John yelled at Dean and made him feel so bad. He was only a kid himself after all.
1 ) Dean: "Because I'm the oldest which means I'm always right." Sam: "No it doesn't." Dean: "Yeah, it totally does."
2 ) Sam: Hey, Dean, I’m sorry. Dean: For what? Sam: Well, you know...I’ve really given you a lot of crap for always followin’ Dad’s orders. But I know why you do it. Dean: Oh, God, kill me now.
If How To Win Friends and Influence Monsters was in the Tor 10 the list would be perfect.Okay, some episodes could be lower, but I'm still happy.
ReplyDeleteComedy episode - Changing Channels. The French Mistake is a brilliant episode, one of my favorites, but it just can't compete.Changing Channels was pure perfection from start to finish. It's one of these episodes that's all about (awesome)comedy for thirty minutes and then switches to great drama as well. The twist with Gabriel is one of my favorite ones and one I never saw coming. His speech about Heaven,Earth and brothers was amazing.Plus,an episode with Richard Speight simply can not go wrong for me!
Quotes
Hell House
- Ed: "Sweet Lord of the Rings.RUN!"
- Dean: "Most of those websites wouldn't know a ghost if it bit them in the persqueeter."
Something Wicked
- Sam: "Dude, dude,I'm not using this ID!"
Dean: "Why not?"
Sam: "Because it says 'bikini inspector' on it!"
- Dean: "Because I'm the oldest, which means I'm always right."
Sam: "No,it doesn't."
Dean: "Yeah,it totally does."
Damn it,I accidentally hit Enter while filling the Something Wicked quotes.
ReplyDeleteStupid Enter on my keyboard, ruining my life on regular basis...
I'm so sorry,Dahne!
Okay,I was done with the Hell House quotes,so I'll just rewrite the last two.
Sorry! : (
Not a problem. I've got both the HH and SW quotes on the form. Thanks for participating.
ReplyDeleteI wanted HtWDF&IM higher too. Such a shame it had to go against Death's Door first. I think it could have gone higher if it been against easier competition. I agree that the Trickster being an archangel came out of nowhere. Rarely am I so thrown for a loop on any show. It was phenomenal.
ReplyDeleteI love how Dean was able to save Sam from teh same thing he couldn't save him from when he was a kid. It gave a nice closure to the story. Plus Michael is one of my absolute favorite PiPs. I still dream of him showing back up as a junior hunter they run into on a case. I'd love to see how the character is doing and how his experience with the shtriga shaped him.
ReplyDeleteIt made me laugh out loud the first time I saw it. I used to watch Knight Rider with my family when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteBest comedy episode - neither. I mean, I love both, but my favourite will always be Bad Day at Black Rock. From these two, it's hard to choose, but I think I'm gonna go with The French Mistake, cause it was totally meta crazy and I kinda loved it. Plus, I believe it made me laugh harder than ChCh.
ReplyDeleteI think my favourite season 7 episode is Hello, Cruel World, closely followed by Meet the New Boss, The Born-Again Identity, The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tatoo and There Will Be Blood. And maybe Time After Time. And Slash Fiction. And Reading is Fundamental. Actually I loved a lot of episodes this season, which I guess is a good thing ;)
Haha, I can imagine. I don't think my brother would like it much either.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, I can't wait to rewatch season one when I get home. It's my most watched season, I love it. That and season two
For me the David Caruso bit was the funniest part of te episode because my dad and I always joke abot that character and how bad it is so the second I saw it I ran and called him up as he was laughing like crazy as well.
ReplyDeleteAnd the greys one was brilliant too with the whole ghost love relationship because Jeffery dean Morgan played that ghost character in greys
I just made Supernatural Fan Level 10 Dean Winchester. That made my morning. lol
ReplyDeleteI'm generally happy with the Season 7 contest results, though I wouldn't say the finale was my favorite episode of the season. And voting for best comedy episode was so incredibly difficult! Changing Channels and The French Mistake are probably my top 2 comedy episodes of the show, so I tried not to think about it too much and went with my gut. My vote went to Changing Channels, though I suspect if there was another poll in a few weeks it might go the other way. Both never fail to make me laugh.
ReplyDeleteI'm still on Level 8 Castiel :) I've been wondering something, though - my badges say there are are 13 levels for Supernatural... does anyone else's site show the same? I find it hard to believe that there are three characters above Dean, Sam, Cas, and Bobby... unless the Impala is up there somewhere haha
ReplyDeleteEasy choise voited for Changing Channels.
ReplyDeleteQuotes:
Hell House:
Sam: "Hell Houndslair.com"
Dean: "Let me guess, streaming live out of mom's basement." Sam: "Yeah probably." Dean: "Yeah, most of those websites wouldn't know a
ghost if it bit them in the persqueeter."
Dean: "I thought the legend said that Morteki only goes after chicks" Sam: "He does." Dean: "Right well that explains we he went after you but why me?" Sam: "Hilarious."
Something Wicked:
Dean: "Because I'm the oldest which means I'm always right." Sam:
"No it doesn't." Dean: "Yeah, it totally does."
Sam: "Hey Dean, I'm sorry." Dean: "For what?" Sam: "Ah you know,
I've really given you a lot of crap for always following Dad's orders but
I know why you do it." Dean: "Oh God, kill me now."
How did Out With The Old get beat by Time For A Wedding?
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, I expected the results to pretty much turn out this way.
"Jackpot." ;D
ReplyDeleteYou referring to Sam or Dean? Cause Gabriel sure likes to pick on Sam, and likes to hurt Dean. lol
ReplyDeleteThe vote is for the most funny, right?
ReplyDeleteBecause for the "best episode", my vote would go to Changing Channels without hesitation, but for the funny side, I'm not sure ...
Need to re-watch before voting. Don't close the poll too soon ;-)
hell house:
ReplyDeleteThis one is my less favorite, the ghost hunters were way too cartoonish for my taste, fortunately, there was the prank war ...which is even more funny when you know that the J2 do the same on set :-D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orNJMnIcsA0
Dean: Oh what's the matter Sammy, afraid you're gonna get a little Nair in your shampoo again, huh?
Sam: All right. Just remember you started it.
Dean: Oh ho, bring it on baldy.
Dean: Man, I hate rats.
Sam: Would you rather it was a ghost?
Dean: Yes
special mention to:
Dean: I thought the legend said that Morteki only goes after chicks.
Sam: He does.
Dean: Right well that explains we he went after you but why me?
something wicked:
Love, love this episode ♥ Weechester ♥ (I love John even if he was a total prick with Dean in this episode)
John: All right. You know the drill, Dean. If anybody calls, you don't pick up. If it's me, I'll ring once and then call back. You got that?
WeeDean: Don't answer the phone unless it rings once first.
John: Come on, Dean, look alive. This stuff's important.
WeeDean: I know, it's just, we've gone over it, like, a million times, and you know I'm not stupid.
John: I know you're not. But it only takes one mistake, you got that? ... All right, if I'm not back Sunday night?
WeeDean: Call Pastor Jim.
John: Lock the doors and windows, close the shades, and most important...
WeeDean: Watch out for Sammy.
John: All right, if somethin' tries to bust in?
WeeDean: Shoot first, ask questions later.
John: That's my man.
(I just put the last two lines in the vote box but the all exchange is so great)
Michael: King or two queens?
Dean: Two queens.
Michael: Yeah, I bet.
Dean: What'd you say?
Michael: Nice car.
wincest nudge ... those writers! XD
special mention to:
Sam: "Dude, dude, I am not using this id."
Dean: "Why not?"
Sam: "Because it says bikini inspector on it."
It's really easy to make the morning of a spn fan, I wonder why the writers think we complain a lot XD
ReplyDeleteYes 13 levels. \o/ you just made my day too. I'm currentely on level 7 so I know next level will be Cas ♥
ReplyDeleteYep, I would have expected Cas to be the level under the bros too. I bet impala is in :-) Maybe there is meta-kripke too? Or maybe the last level is the entire crew?
I registered on the badge-think recently, I don't even now if there is a purpose other than collecting badges but it's fun :-)
It would have been better if we could have chosen the show on our profile. There are show like vampire diaries, glee, etc. that I know I will never watch.
I have never seen Grey's Anatomy but even I knew when Denny died. People kept talking about it. Then to have him die in a hospital soon after on Supernatural, well there were a lot of upset people. Still not as many as were upset by the Denny coming back as a ghost thing though. I didn't have the heart to tell my GA fan friends that he was likely to come back as a ghost on SPN too.
ReplyDeleteReading the quotes itself is almost making me cry. I can't imagine how its gonna be, when I watch this episode again. This is the episode, that made to attach to the Supernatural emotionally. "You Okay Little Brother" - I need a tissue! IMO, this is the best episode of season 1 and the one of the most emotional episodes of the series. By the way, is there a poll for the most emotional episode?
ReplyDeleteCarver wrote some great episodes - Changing Channels, Mystery Spot, and A Very SPN Christmas being the best. Of course he also wrote the stinkers Family Remains, Long-Distance Call, Rapture, and Free to be You and Me too. For me the biggest plus for Carver coming back is that he has showrunner experience and the fans of Being human seem fond of him. I hope that flows over to SPN too.
ReplyDeleteChanging Channels is one of the best episodes ever. The revelation at the end was awesome. The way Gabriel revealed was really great. Making fun of other shows was awesome. This episode, gives us a lot of hope for Season 8 of Supernatural, because its penned by Carver. I love that song too! If I am not wrong, Michael is the name of the big brother in something wicked - is that a hint to the viewers for what is about to come in the future season?
ReplyDeleteBut, I don't know why, I didn't like The French Mistake. No doubt the episode is funny, but, I mean, it is obviously going to be funny, if you bring behind the scene stuff on to the screen. I felt not much creativity is needed to write the episode.
I usually share your distaste of meta episodes but I didn't find French Mistake to be lacking in anything except the lame ending. The scene in Jared's McMansion with Ruby had me roaring. I thought everyone did a phenomenal job acting in that scene. I also loved Misha Collins in the episode, which is why I think he would be perfect in a CW comedy. I felt that they were still in danger from Virgil. I mean he did kill a lot of people and trying to find a way home provided ample amount of tension for me. However I agree completely that Dean and Sam should have been able to have at least faked their way through the acting. It would have made more sense if they didn't get the technical side of acting. While hilarious, the scene does bother me too. They act every day of their lives; they should be better at it than they were.
ReplyDeleteI also understand you issue with meta taking you out of the show. That is generally my biggest problem with it too. I guess I was prepared to not see this as a Winchester episode as much as a fan episode. Therefore I never expected to believe in it from a story standpoint anyway. Believe me, I went into this episode preparing to loathe every minute of it. In fact, I had someone standing by to recap it in case I couldn't rewatch. I can definitely understand why you would not want to know the inner workings of the show if it helps you to suspend disbelief to avoid it. I rarely watch the DVD extras myself for partly the same reason. For me, French Mistake was a one of a kind experiment in breaking the fourth wall and I think it succeeded wildly beyond my expectations in that manner. I certainly don't love it as much as many people but I found it enjoyable for what it was.
No question for me that Changing Channels wins this one. It was brilliantly funny in all the best ways. I like French Mistake, but nothing can reach the perfection of Changing Channels and Gabriel.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, I feel that, Dean should have met Jared. That would have been more hilarious. Honestly, acting skills of Jared didn't live up to expectations in that episode. Jared is more good for serious and emotional episodes.
ReplyDeleteThe last two badges are events instead of people. The 11th badge is the one that fans (like me) pestered Adam into making because we thought he forgot something.
ReplyDeleteIt is Best Comedy Episode, so I guess that depends on how you interpret that. :-P For me it means the best episode which is generally categorized as comedy. For others it means funniest. My votes for Best Comedy episode would also include Mystery Spot and Bad Day at Black Rock, but some don't like thinking of Mystery Spot as a comedy. It made the nominating process more difficult so in the end we went with, if you think it's a comedy then it's a comedy for you.
ReplyDeleteThere has been speculation that maybe angels go to Purgatory when they die. Not sure I like this idea but meeting Gabriel in Purgatory would make things a whole lot more fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure in the scheme of things the last few episodes' rankings really mean much. In the case of Out with the Old, it simply got 1 fewer vote in the wild card poll than Season 7 Time for a Wedding. If the bottom episodes went head-to-head my guess is that they would all be ranked differently.
ReplyDeleteLet me guess, you're an oldest too. I find that us oldest kids really, really like Dean's quote about how we are always right. Younger siblings not so much.
ReplyDeleteIt could have been worse. It could be Mystery Spot in the finale and I know how much you hate thinking of that episode as a comedy.
ReplyDeleteI also loved season 7 in an episode-by-episode case. I haven't decided my top episodes but they would include Slash Fiction, How to Win Friends & Influence Monsters, Death's Door, Time After Time, Hello Cruel World, Meet the New Boss, and The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo.
If we do a Biggest Shock poll this summer, I'm definitely nominating the Trickster revealed as Gabriel to my list. I put it up there with the car crash at the end on Devil's Trap and higher than Dean actually going to hell. It was a huge game changer and I agree that it was very well done. I had no clue it was coming.
ReplyDeleteWe've done the most emotional death but we haven't done Best Emotional Episode. I will put it on the list of possible future polls. Thanks for the suggestion. We may have to add Best Action and Best Gory episodes too.
ReplyDeleteGood Idea. Best Gory episode would be - Meet the New Boss. Best Action would be - Jus In Bello. I am not able to remember all the episodes actually.
ReplyDeleteMany like Sera Gamble as a writer but not as a show runner. Yeah, actually, I am sorry to see her go as a writer, but not to see her go as a show runner.
ReplyDeleteI understand that a lot of people loved it but it just doesn't do anything for me.
ReplyDeleteThere was no logic to it. Why send them to an alternate universe where they are actors in Supernatural? It was done exclusively to shock the system and get people to talk about it, which I suppose is a good enough reason in itself.
Virgil killed a lot of the troupe but Sam and Dean themselves were relatively safe.
The only part I liked was at the end when Dean asked Sam if he wanted to remain seeing that the "Jared" persona had a good life, but Sam said no because they weren't even brothers there. :)
Even in "Monster at the end of the Book", I could go with the books because there was a certain logic behind them. Chuck was a prophet and was writing a gospel.
Like or not like, but there was a reason. In the French Mistake there wasn't.
Now if it had been the other way around and "a Jared and "a Jensen" had found themselves in Bobby's real house, having to interact with the real Castiel and having the real Meg hunt them down. Now that would have been awesome and much funnier too, I bet!!
I hardly ever watch the extras either, by the way.:)
It was not exactly a "shock" to me. But still it was great to hear it from trickster on the show. I honestly saw it coming a few episodes back. I was happy about the importance this show gives to family emotions, when I saw the last scene of the episode and the what Dean tells to Gabriel is priceless.
ReplyDeleteFor me Meet the New Boss has nothing on Metamorphosis, My Bloody Valentine, or Third Man for gore. Oh and the Pestilence part of 2 Minutes to Midnight grossed me out completely. Best Action would be harder for me to choose. I do love Jus in Bello though. It is in my Best of SPN list.
ReplyDeleteI thought angels didn't have souls so how can they go to Purgatory?
ReplyDeleteHas it been said that monsters have souls? I can't remember.
However I like Gabriel. Maybe he could come back in trickster mode.
Perhaps he's so "tricky" that he managed to outwit Lucifer and still be alive!
Hi, Dahne, many thanks for the polls. They're a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteI've been ranking the episodes per these polls too and I just can't get how you came up with that order in the middle of the list. Numbers 1 to 5 are clear, and 16 to 23 too, then I kind of get 6 to 8 (even if I would think 7.2 goes ahead of 7.12, but your order also makes sense), however for positions 9 to 15 I just can't get the episodes in the same order as you do in any way I can think of. I see 7.14 as a clear number 9, and 7.9 as a clear number 15, and for the rest I would say they rank as 7.21, 7.19, 7.18, 7.15 and 7.22, but one could argue for them almost any positions in between 10 and 14.
I hope my paragraph is understandable. I'm just trying to get how you do it, just a brief idea about it will do, no need for a complex explanation. Thank you.
Yes, I'm oldest. I always used said: "Because I'm Oldest", but after that episode now i using Dean's quote and my brother hates when i do that. Younger siblings probably hard except fact that we oldest are right. :D
ReplyDeleteYes, in Season 6 they said that monsters have souls. However, they haven't said anything about angels having souls (and they've actively implied that angels don't have souls what with Castiel's and Balthazar's penchants for acquiring souls and needing to be in direct contact with a soul in order to syphon power off of it (something they aren't able to do on their own without a human or monster around)).
ReplyDeleteRe-watched the two ep. to make my choice and "changing channels" is like that good wine who getter even better after some time :-)
ReplyDeleteDean fanFace when he met Dr Sexy, Sampala asking if he should honking, Cas grand entrance n°3721, ...
Loved both but CC is better.
I miss trickster/Gabriel more than I miss Bobby!
"Seriously?"
Cas said to Crowley "you want to make a deal with me? I don't have a soul you ass" in season 6.
ReplyDeleteOn spn mythology, angels don't have a soul.
Thanks. :)
ReplyDeleteI do remember that they said that angels don't have souls so theoretically they shouldn't be able to go to Purgatory.
Love them both but for me, "Monster at the end of the book" is way better than "the french mistake".
ReplyDeleteI wondered the same about the J2 being switched to D/S alternate universe during the episode. It seems logical.
I'm sure there are fanfic about that, maybe even fans who asked the J's what they would do if they were switched in SPN universe :-)
Thanks to you too; so unless they change what they have stated, Angels do not go to Purgatory, but I suppose they can visit, for Castiel visited Hell with Crowley. :)
ReplyDeleteWould love best gory!
ReplyDeleteThe scene with the dancing girl and the couple eating each other immediatly popped in my head ... I'm sure there are others.
I have a bad memory, major handicap for a fan :-D
I remember there was a couple of times where I was unable to keep my eyes on the screen. Bring it on! :-)
I really don't like meta episodes for the reasons above but if I had to choose between these two then I would go for MATEOTB. It was much more complex and there were parts of it I really enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteThe writers never explained about what happened to the original "Jared and Jensen" but as Bobby didn't say anything they obviously didn't end up in his house.
Perhaps it was only a dream universe like the ones the Djinn make.
That's because it makes no sense. Thanks for catching it. I've edited so that the list is right now. Please check it against yours to see if they match. I had inadvertently added some rounds together which threw everything off and
ReplyDeleteI have a bad habit of flipping numbers even when I'm fully awake. It made math practically impossible for me in my middle years. That's what happens when I try to order numbers late at night.
yeah! can't wait to find. Kudoos to all the people who made that.
ReplyDeleteI should have begin that badge-thing sooner but I didn't have a tweeter account then. In fact, I created my Twit account for it, now I enjoy both :-)
I don't think there are dead angels or dead humans (thinking ghostBobby here) in Purgatory, only monsters.
ReplyDeleteMaybe. The angels laid siege to hell to save Dean, they can go to hell, but that doesn't mean they can go to purgatory even for a visit.
I wonder if God put a failsafe or something preventing angels to go there
and that's why Cas was zapped away at the end of this season. Cas said that
the word of God wasn't meant for angels, maybe purgatory is forbidden to
them too.
Of course that's just my tiny fan-brain working, Cas may have zapped for recon or something.
We'll see :-)
Yep, *Heaven weapons*, another dead-end storyline in season 6.
ReplyDeleteLike the mother of all and all the fuss around the campbells clan... or that line that Cas delivered to Crowley in episode 6x20: "find purgatory, if you don't we just willl die again and again until the end of time"
What was that line about? Maybe TPTB will remember it and use it for season 8?
I actually misunderstood the meaning of gore, my bad! Now I know what it actually means. Yeah, these episodes are really gory.
ReplyDeleteI'm the youngest and I still love that line. It's just pure Dean xD
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think that Angels simply "cease to exist" when they die in SPN.
ReplyDeleteWhy would the angels be so distressed by their brothers/sisters death if they went somewhere. Surely "living" angels would be able to extract them from there?
that said, was it clearly stated that only creatures with a soul were send in purgatory? It's SPN, the show create his own mythology.
There is another good question, well it's more a plothole discovery than a question.
Season eight hasn't even begin and fans already find plotholes ... This fandom! XD
It's there:

Ha! You remember everything, don't you? Yeah, I don't like to label Mystery Spot as a comedy, the second half is just too sad for that. I do agree that it contains some of the funniest scenes ever in the show, though.
ReplyDeleteChCh vs TFM is actually a decent finale. Both episodes are very strong comedy-wise and as I said, I love both. I just wish BDABR would've made it too ;)
I love both of these episodes but Changing Channels wins by a mile! I loved the tv spoofs - Grey's Anatomy, CSI: Miami and Knight Rider especially!
ReplyDeleteYou'll have another chance to get Bad Day at Black Rock into a winning position. We start the Ultimate SPN Episode Contest this week and I think it will go far. I also bet it does pretty well in the quote contest.
ReplyDeleteAbout John.
ReplyDeleteThe "education" he gave to his sons saved their life. At least Sam life. Even if John had chosen to keep them away from the hunter life, Sam was targeted because he was one of the YED "chosen one". John knew that.
I'm not to the last one yet myself. It takes a while because you basically have to double your points to move to the next level. However, if we keep people commenting on these polls and have some great conversations, we'll all move up a badge quickly.
ReplyDeleteI also created a Twitter account because of SpoilerTV. Now I'm addicted to it too. Never thought I'd be able to say anything in 140 characters.
you have to add yellow fever in the comedy area o began a new poll
ReplyDeleteThe edited list is Ok now, I mean, I can see how you follow a consistent way to order the episodes. Thanks for clarifying.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree about Carver's best, SPN Christmas is my fav s3 ep! But I also like the other eps you mentioned too...I mean they aren't on my worst-list. Just the middle of the list; average. lol :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm thinking about trying out his version of Being Human this summer just to see what I might expect from him.
when the quotes contest began then i will vote AND A BAD NOTICE FOR ALL FANS JENSEN ..will not show up for the future convention schedule in the states his wife put a post in his behave in her tweeter page for all fans to read.
ReplyDeleteBest Emotional could be interesting...but who determines what's "emotional"? Is it a nomination process (I'm guessing yes)? Just curious. I definitely could get behind a Best Gory poll, too! That one sounds pretty fun.
ReplyDeleteRight! that's why I take me so long to get to the next level ... I was just wondering about that
ReplyDeleteThe 140 character limit is the worst part of twitter :-)
I never thought of it that way, that Cas could have been zapped away.
ReplyDeleteI think it was recon though, in less they plan on Cas helping Sam save Dean.
I'd prefer Sam saving Dean on his own and Cas being in Purgatory with Dean fighting off monsters though. More intense since Sam has to figure out what's going on.
Good. Glad to have that confirmed. I must have missed that line or forgotten it one.
ReplyDeleteAll polls I make have a nominating process if I can. (We're going to do a best writer one later and instead of nominating everyone who has ever written anything for SPN will be in it.) It does take things longer but it is the only fair way to do things. Then everyone in the SPN family has a voice if they want to participate.
ReplyDeleteAs far as determining what would count as "emotional", we will get tons of debate if last summer's polls are any indication. I cannot tell you how much arguing there was over whether new characters in recurring actors' bodies should be allowed to be in the one-shot character contest. (Ex. Meg-Possessed Sam, Future Dean, Jimmy Novak). We also had a major discussion about how the Impala should be categorized. It really got interesting when I decided that for Best Angel, Castiel couldn't a choice. Same for Best Human excluding Dean, Sam, and Bobby in it. But really, with those characters in it we would either end up in a brother war or there would be no point to the poll. Everyone knows who would win before the contest even started. In fact the reason we are doing wildcard positions instead of just taking the top 128 ranked episodes is because someone felt that was unfair to certain episodes if the batch they were in for the ranking polls was exceptionally strong. Let's just say that if we end up doing Best Gory or Best Emotional, everyone will have an opinion so the conversation will get very interesting, which is right what we need when hellatus starts kicking us hard in the teeth. I'd rather us argue about poll technicalities than watch the fandom turn into brawl over one subject or another because tension is running high and we're all getting edgy with withdrawal.
Cool. If you do watch it let me know. I stopped after the third episode. The ghost chick was very annoying to me and there was a lot of emoangsting from all three main characters. It would be great to know if it got more action-oriented and less whiny as the episodes progressed.
ReplyDeleteMmm yeah. They technically are souls with no bodies in less they take a vessel so when they're destroyed yeah, they probably cease to exist. Which is sad to me, only because of Gabriel and Balthazar and any other half decent angel. Hate thinking they're nothing now, though I think it would be worst if they just were set to a dark nothingness place or something.
ReplyDeleteWhat worries me about ghosts being burned- are they just being forced to rest or are the souls burning? I'd like to think the former, for Bobby's sake. The latter would suck.
Demons being basically twisted human souls would cease to exist if angels do because when a demon is killed, it's the soul of a once human thing.
I imagine only things with a body AND a soul both, can move onto one of the 3 after places (Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory). A vampire has a soul because it was once human and still has it's body. Most monsters we've seen were human or stem from humans (shapeshifters if I remember correctly- we know they can reproduce with humans and I know something was said in "Skin" about shapeshifters.)
As for Leviathans, maybe the writers made a mistake, maybe it's a play of words. Maybe Dick was just sent back or maybe Leviathans have bodies. What confuses me a lot is that they have possessed/taken control of people (Castiel) but they can also form their own shapes like Shapeshifters, yet they also turn into black ink like substances.
I'm not going to think too much into it anymore. lol
It would be certainly interesting how they would explain how beings with only one form could end up in Purgatory after death.
ReplyDeleteI would actually enjoy it, if only to see past nasties go after Dean. it would be interesting.
If angels can't escape Purgatory, that would be a reason for angels to be distressed by their siblings deaths. Or maybe they get distressed because they just have no idea where/if the others go anywhere.
The only way I can see them explaining that would be to say energy needs to go somewhere -just like a human body turns to dust and a soul moves onto Heaven or Hell, angels and demons go somewhere too. They just cannot escape the place they go to, unlike how humans can be resurrected. Maybe it's because they have no body to go back to?
Might say that energy is never destroyed, only transformed or in this case, sent someplace else.
But the writers may not think that deeply lol
I have no idea what you're trying to say... :I
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of debate of when exactly John knew Sam was marked as a chosen one. For me it makes a whole lot of sense that John learned about it right before he disappeared. I find it hard to believe that John had known about it from the time Sam was a child. I don't think Isle of Skye was commenting on the training that John provided but on the fact that from Dean's perspective, John treated him differently from that time on. That could of course just be Dean's interpretation. What isn't left open to interpretation is that John knew he was hunting a monster that targeted children, especially siblings. Knowing that he willingly took his sons on that hunt instead of leaving them with Pastor Jim from the get go AND then left them alone for several days. There is no excuse for that at all. Dean didn't put Sam in danger. John did and yet John made Dean feel like a failure when it was John's failure to begin with. I understand lashing out in fear but John most certainly should have talked about it with Dean later instead of never mentioning it again and letting it fester in Dean that way. Then there's the fact that he happens to walk in right as the striga was munching on his son's life force. A skeptical person might wonder if he was using his own sons as monster bait and then yelled at his child for not protecting his other child.
ReplyDeleteYellow Fever won its first two rounds in the Best Comedy contest. It then lost badly in its third round to Bad Day at Black Rock and was thus eliminated from the contest.
ReplyDeleteyowza. Yeah, the collective "we", as fans, can be pretty emotional too, haha. At least we have seven seasons of episodes to spend time with over the summer as well as these awesome polls!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of, this seems like a lot of work putting together these polls. Thank you so much for doing it!
Yep no Jensen for Paris. Too bad for the fans who bought ticket to see him. From what I read, those cons are quite expensives.
ReplyDeleteI hope the french fans will have at least Jared and Misha. Those two together are hilarious :-)
I don't know where these guys find the energy to go all over the world and face thousands of screaming fangirls :-)
http://www.thewinchesterfamilybusiness.com/news/27-news-and-announcements/17156-jensen-ackles-cancels-his-paris-con-appearance.html
Maybe he disapeared because he had a lead on the YED? I always thought he knew from some time. It makes his character more likeable ;-)
ReplyDeleteBut, even if he didn't know, thinking about his choice of "education" remains interesting. If you know there are monsters out there, what would you do. Protect your kids by not letting them know or prepare them to face those monsters?
O Right, I didn't understood Isle of Skye comment that way. I agree, I even said it in my quote post: John was a prick in that episode. poor WeeDean! I totally feels for him. I am an elder too, and my mom relied on me for some stuff (not off the hunting kind) she was harsh with me too.
I never tought that John could have use his kids as a bait!! That would be totally ... I don't even have a word (in english at least lol!) but your POV make sense. Aargh! I may not be in love* with JohnWinchester anymore ... fortunately, I have Cas now :-D
*I blame JMD handsomeness for that ;-)
I'm just thinking about differents hypothesis to occupy my mind during Hellatus :-)
ReplyDeleteI prefer that Cas stay in purgatory with Dean. Dean may be a great hunter, but I don't see him surviving on his own there. He needs a wingman.
Cas and Dean have to mend their friendship and there is nothing like a common battlefield to bond with each other ;-)
Cas needs to re-connect with his warrior-self. Purgatory could be a good place to start.
And I want Cas to contact Sam through his dreams ... I wonder what Sam erotic dreams look like :-D
Of course both should get out. I don't want to have Cas back only to see him locked in purgatory :-/
IMO, Adam was a bad idea from the start
I'm with you for the writers lol
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, Carver will leads the show but he has been away since the end of season five.
I think we shouldn't be expecting a lot of continuity concerning the informations we already have on purgatory since it's after Carver time. Sera will not even be there to help him with that.
I bet writers think storyline and character development first, and then create or try to adapt mythology to fit.
About the angels, your idea is totally valid, but, as much as I would love to have Gabriel back, I doubt we will find angels there. just a hunch.
Cas powers should be blocked in purgatory.
In "mommy dearest" Eve say to him his powers are blocked because she is older than him. I'm sur there are still creatures older than him there.
But then, how did he zap away?
Ha! I agree that John had to train his sons. It's like me training my students about stranger danger. Kids have to be prepared for the world around them and unfortunately the Dean and Sam's world was far, far more dangerous than other kids'. I just think he went about doing many things in the worst possible way. My dislike of John grew in Home and my utter disdain came when he didn't even respond to Sam's message that Dean was dying in Faith. Nothing excuses that for me. Even if he was trapped in a cave-in with no cell reception, you still call as soon as you get out. If only to let your kid know you are thinking about them and that you care that they didn't die. I'm glad they had Bobby and Pastor Jim.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I teach so this is my summer break. Plenty of time to do polls and it helps me pass the time until a new episode too.
ReplyDeleteCan I just put in a good word for the Jus In Bello Con in Rome which had many guests this year and which seems was a great success, with all the cast wanting another one next year; something that has been already confirmed for next May.
ReplyDeleteThe J's seem to love how they get treated there and well, Rome does have great fascination as a city
It seems everyone had a great time. :)
For the moment I think its the only one they will be doing in Europe next year, and to think that the show is not particularly famous here. They have just started showing the new episodes of season six on TV.
It is true that Sam was targeted as a baby but I think John must have got that information much later.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe he knew about it when Sam was a child otherwise he would probabbly have tried to do something about it himself. He might not have killed Little Sam but he may have tried to counter-act Sam's "evil" in some way, with spells and stuff.
I think he must have learned about it not long before he went to Hell himself.
I agree that John had to train his boys once he knew of the dangers of the supernatural but there's a difference between training and being mentally cruel to them. He didn't have to treat his sons as he did, although I do think that in his own weird way he loved them.
He did sell his soul to save Dean but all the times before that when they were in danger of losing their lives, as in Faith, he never even answered their messages.
No wonder Dean and Sam grew up so co-dependent; they really only ever had each other to lean on even when they were little kids.
I never thought of John deliberately using his sons as bait but now that you mention it, it does make a lot of sense and I could see John doing something like that with the convinction that he would be able to save them; much as Dean did with Michael in a way.
ReplyDeleteThe difference being that Dean explained everything to Michael and the boy accepted the risk, but I'm sure that poor little Dean didn't get many explanations of any kind from John, just orders.
Although I hate the thought that Dean and Sam were separated in the years that Sam went to Stanford, I can see Sam's point of view in trying to get away from his father and the life he was forced to lead. Poor Dean got caught in the middle and although he was hurting for the loss of Sam I'm sure he was sort of glad in a away that his little brother got out of the hunting life.
In Scarecrow, if i remember correctly, he said how proud he was of him.
The good thing about doing these quote nominations is that I now have a ton of season 1 quotes at my fingertips. Here's the quote from Scarecrow you were referring to:
ReplyDeleteDean: "Sam, you were right. You've got to do your own thing. You've got to live your own life." Sam: You serious?" Dean: "You've always known what you want and you go after it. You stand up to dad and you always have. Hell, I wish I….anyway, I admire that about you. I'm proud of you Sammy." Sam: "I don't even know what to say." Dean: "Say you'll take care of yourself." Sam: "I will." Dean: "Well call me when you find dad." Sam: "OK. Bye Dean."
Right! Thanks. :)
ReplyDeleteI loved that little scene, So moving. sigh!
I loved that whole episode and I just adore those broken, loving Winchester brothers.
A double sigh, just to finish off, and although I'm not a weepy person, I do feel a little teared up :)
Disqus generic email template...my friend go to the tweet page of jensen wife and read the reason for him to decide no participate in the future convention schedule in the state I am not JOKING ABOUT IT is about something related to logistic and jensen disagree really bad some people began to withdraw and to ask for there refund in tickets
ReplyDeleteDisqus generic email template...?WHEN THIS POLL WILL CREATED.? ..I don’t participate may be my computer was broken or I get sick
ReplyDeleteI agree that he disappeared in season one because he had a lead on the YED and he didn't want Sam and Dean around because it would be too dangerous. He said as much in later episodes. YED would use them against John because they were his weakness. The Faith question was never directly addressed, but I always took it was one of those sloppy out of character moments that was more about advancing the plot in a certain way than staying true to John's character. If I had to rationalize it, I would say that John was in a place with tracking YED where he thought calling them back might have led YED to Sam and Dean's location - and there was nothing he could do to help Dean anyway. I think I remember him having some concerns about the phone lines not being safe from the demons.
ReplyDeleteWhat would be even more out of character is the idea that John used Sam and Dean as bait (their safety was the most important thing to him - that's why they were his weakness), and there's really nothing in the story to support the idea of bait other than the convenient timing of his reappearance.
I also agree that John was very harsh in that episode, maybe even a little cruel, but he was a parent who was freaking out because he just got home to find his youngest son being attacked by a monster. Yes he put a lot of pressure on them to act like young adults, but it was because after the attack he saw danger everywhere, as he later said. Season one didn't give me the impression that John had a lot of resources to depend on and people to leave Sam and Dean with (the Bobby as co-father rewrite came later in the series). Hunting was his full-time job, so he couldn't be dropping them off at a friend's every week.
We don't know when he found out about Sam - I would guess midway through their childhood. What we do know is that John knew that YED had targeted his family, and when YED entered their house he went to Sam's room (that would raised suspicion to someone with a military background). John also must have known that after YED had killed Mary, he killed everyone who ever knew her. John led a paranoid life, but was it really paranoia if a yellow eyed demon really is out to get you and your kids?
Learning how to hunt so that he could kill YED before YED could do anything to Sam might have been John's effort to do something to save Sam.
ReplyDeleteThe majority of the best comedy contest was run during the winter hiatus. We had gotten through everything except the final before the hiatus ended.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great brother moment. One of the reasons why I really like Scarecrow.
ReplyDeleteIt just doesn't sound right that John would have known about YED when he started hunting himself, or training his sons to hunt.
ReplyDeleteI can't see him knowing about that until he much much later.
I do agree that he started hunting very soon after Mary's death to protect his family and to get vengence for Mary. But I wouldn't rule out that John may have found out early on that YED had a special interest in Sam. More of the details about the psychic kids may have come later.
ReplyDeleteI have a terrible memory for lines but I believe it was in Shadow that John first told his sons that he knew it was a demon and that he was after it.
ReplyDeleteI would think that logically it must have been around then that he actually discovered Yed or not long before that.
However I suppose we'll never know but in any case he could have taken a moment to be more fatherly towards his children, while training them at the same time.
He confirmed to Sam in Scarecrow that it was a demon, but I got the impression that he didn't tell them sooner not because he didn't know more, but because he didn't want them to get too close to YED (because it was too dangerous or because of YED's connection to Sam).
ReplyDeleteThis is what he told Sam and Dean in Salvation:
John: So this is it. This is everything I know. Look, our whole lives we been
searching for this demon right? Not a trace, just...nothing. Until about
a year ago. For the first time I picked up a trail.
Dean: And that's when you took off.
John: Yeah. That's right. The demon must have come out of hiding, or hibernation.
But neither discussion tells us when John found out about Sam and the demon blood and the psychic kids. Just because John couldn't locate YED, that doesn't mean that he didn't uncover some information on why YED had targeted their family.
