He also addressed his decision to cancel the Sarah Michelle Gellar vehicle Ringer, saying the show's serialized format did not help it hold its audience during reruns. He said that Gellar, the beloved star of iconic series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, understood the decision and that he is committed to getting her back on the CW in some way, if not in a different series then as a producer. And he admitted that’s he’s still being inundated with emails from angry Gellar fans. “She will be back on the CW in some form,” he vowed.

I'm excited about that! SMG probably won't do anything until after she has the baby, though.
ReplyDeleteYes! get her back in some other series plzzzzzz ..
ReplyDeleteWell, there's an indestructible white oak stake in Mystic Falls with no one left to wield it. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME!!!! She totally should!
ReplyDeleteSerialized shows can exist on broadcast network...as evident by the success of ABC's REVENGE and ONCE UPON A TIME.
ReplyDeleteBring her back to TV
ReplyDeleteOMG O_O
ReplyDeleteI would have been happy with at least an episode ro two (Movie?) to wrap things up :-/
ReplyDeleteDevelop a show like Buffy. I mean, CW kinda aren't known for their originality anymore.
ReplyDeleteThis would be AMAZING! Buffy the Vampire Slayer slaying on TVD!! They should kill Elena off and have her as a main character!!
ReplyDeleteFINALLY something good would have happened on that show.
ReplyDeleteUnless CW finds the right role for her I would prefer she stay off their network honestly....
ReplyDeleteSMG is a capable actress, but she excels and is super Sarah in certain types of roles, but she struggles and is less-than-stellar Gellar in most other roles.
She needs the right show. Ringer really was not it.
ReplyDeleteI think she should do some guest starring role over the next year or two. Then see if the right project comes along. I think a "Parenthood"-esque drama would be good role for her now.
I don't think I would be able to come up with a more melodramatic use of the word 'vowed' if I tried.
ReplyDeleteit would be awesome if she was cast in TVD
ReplyDeleteI have to wholeheartedly agree with you... she's not bad she's just not too versatile either...
ReplyDeletetrés content de voir SMG dans un nouveau serie et filme
ReplyDeleteReading the whole article I have to say the way he talks has me really appreciating and respecting him as an exec (never got that feeling from Dawn). Now lets see if he can walk the talk.
ReplyDeletetrés content de revoir SMG dans un nouveau filme et serie :)
ReplyDeleteYES SMG!! The queen! <3
ReplyDeleteif they did, I might die from happiness .. it's perfect! how the writers didn't come up with that?
ReplyDeleteCool. Love SMG.
ReplyDeletethe best SMG
ReplyDeleteThat sucks!!! We, the fans don't want to see her in another series. What reruns?? There weren't any. Please bring back Ringer!!! Expect some more angry emails. The show didn't tie up all the loose ends. It ended like The Sopranos. You could give us one more season. Bring her back as a twin who witnesses a murder and goes to her twin for help, thinks she is dead, pretends to be her and realizes in the end that her twin is alive. That would work.
ReplyDeleteWell at least they want to bring her back. But still I think he should at least let Ringer tie up the loose ends....
ReplyDeleteVery cool
ReplyDeleteAt least get her on something that is good.
ReplyDeleteI don't want SMG working for the CW anymore! They killed Ringer, they killed her show, our show! Why Sarah? :(
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I don't know that I agree. She regularly carried the mail with a great cast on Buffy in a role that required she be intimidating and vulnerable.
ReplyDeleteShe did the job much better than, say, Jennifer Garner did on Alias and I still think she's owed an Emmy by Sela Ward. Her work in Prom, Earshot and Graduation Day that year was incredible.
Buffy was the zenith of her career and almost custom made for her personality.
ReplyDeleteShe was great on Buffy and as Buffy! It's just everything else that is un-Buffy-like that she shows her lack of versatility to me.
OH MY GOD YES. THis would actually make that show watchable.
ReplyDeleteI really doubt CW has any non-sexist writers anymore to develop a show like Buffy. The current portfolio of shows and how females are handled there certainly implies that...
ReplyDeleteOhh make SMG guest star on Supernatural!!!
ReplyDeleteno. no. no. She most likely would get killed horribly within one episode. That show tends to be horribly unjust towards female characters.
ReplyDeleteThis again? They've killed just as many men on this show as females.
ReplyDeleteim glad! but hopefully she comes back on the screen not as a producer!
ReplyDeleteWhich is in itself because the show cast has way way way way more men than females, which in itself is questionable.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to take a guess and say you liked Heroes season 1, but not 2-4.
ReplyDeleteLol, I see I'm not the only one who thinks they tend to be a lot more harsh towards the female characters. I think it's down to them listening to the fangirls.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love the show, I will admitt to it being VERY sexist and misogynistic!
ReplyDeleteI would love that so much!!! You knowm they don't HAVE to kill her XD The show needs more badass hunters on it's rooster (Although Smidge could definitely play an awesome villain)
ReplyDeleteUmm hello Nikita anyone?
ReplyDeleteI really love that they want to keep Smidge on the CW, I think that's nice that they want to keep working with her. I wanted to love Ringer, I watched ten episodes, but it never managed to capture my attention, the writing was just not at the level of all the talent involved; the cast was great, but the plotting always felt flaky to me :(
ReplyDeleteI want to keep seeing Sarah on my tv, but I want the product to be good. I agree that she is not the most versatile actress ever, but she has charisma and experience, actors have made careers of less.
Ringer for all did not play well Sarah's strenghts, and honestly, the characterization for all the characters in that show was more than bland.
So pleeeease CW, find Sarah something good for her!!
2 was decent, the only problem with season two of heroes was pacing and the fact that it was cut short.
ReplyDeleteIn Season Three however yeah, Heroes lost its plot and anything coherent and I still love to use Heroes as an example of how bad management, bad writing staff and bad lead writers can ruin good concepts.
I would love her to appear into either of those two shows. OUAT especially should be capable of showing her kickassery.
ReplyDeleteConsidering it will be a miracle on if that show survives for a full next season, I just do not see any reason of placing SMG into something that is pretty much ending.
ReplyDeleteno, no canceld!!!!!!!!! RINGER IS THE BEST
ReplyDeleteI love Sarah and I though her acting on Ringer was wonderful but the cast was the best part of the show, the pacing, scripts and plot were really quite bad at certain points, I only watched the show out of loyalty to Sarah as a fan of her work.
ReplyDeleteI hope to see her her in movies, tv shows, even tv ads!
i didnt mean that lol although it deserves wayy more viewers with its quality, stunts, acting and writers! but u said 'I really doubt CW has any non-sexist writers anymore to develop a show like Buffy. The current portfolio of shows and how females are handled there certainly implies that...' and Nikita has extremely strong female leads that are complicated and half the time save the men! The CW has INCREDIBLE writers for Nikita... this season's finale proved that!
ReplyDeleteWe hope that Ringer can come back. If not Ringer than ee do not see any reason not to bring back Buffy the Vampire Slayer season eight TV series. We would like to see more episodes of either. We think that there should be more of the cast from Buffy iether on Ringer or doing more new episodes of the show.
ReplyDeleteWe think that they should cancel America's Next Top Model. Then they should have on Ringer or Buffy on the schedule.
ReplyDeleteYou make the assumption that the cast would want to come back for more Buffy and what's with the 'we'? Do you have multiple personalities?
ReplyDeleteI agree Ringer didnt work, it was too serialised to be spread over 22 episodes and it would not have fared well over any future seasonssince shows loose viewers over time, not to mention it would have been incredibly hard to sell into syndication. IMO it woul have worked better as a mini-series, with a more cable-esque format.
ReplyDeleteIts not a show that will come back regardless of what fans want, it ended with few to many viewers and very low ratings.
If they want SMG back on the net it would have to be in something new.
At the end of the day CW tried something and it didnt work, all they can do is keep trying to get it right.
a vampire?
ReplyDeleteMaybe the CW President is thinking that it is time to bring back Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Maybe he is working on a way that there could be more spisodes. They still might even bring back Ringer for a second season. Anything can happen. We will to wait until the fall. There still is plenty of time.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she's not too cut up about it, she's been in the business for a long time I'm sure she gets how it works. Poor ratings gets shows cancelled, besides she has more important things going on in her life right now.
ReplyDeleteCould the President of the CW network decide the following. Could there be new episodes of the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the orignal cast set in the future. That way it would feature the original cast. They could have the pregnancy written into the storyline. Faith could be in it also. Giles should be in it also.
ReplyDeleteThe cast DOES want to come back for buffy and all the key members have expressed interest on going for it if it ever happens, including Whedon.
ReplyDeleteIt would be wonderful if they brought back Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the original cast. Since the cast is familiar to everyone there would be no need for a pilot episode. Yet the series could still be Buffy the Vampire Slayer but have a more Angel feeling toward it. Set in the future what happened after Sunnydale.
ReplyDeleteBuffy could relocate and come in and handle the operations of Wolfram and Hart. The Scooby Gang could be needed along with Giles. Faith could be on this also. However, Angel is missing.
ReplyDeleteToo bad they still could bring back Ringer. Have Siobhan/Bridget find out that she is really Buffy. Then have her become in charge of or work for Worlfram and Hart. Then bring back the Scooby Gang. However, Angel would be missing. Buffy finds out that Spike is still around. That would please the fans.
ReplyDeleteNah, I think something else. If not a badass hunter in homage, she should play something entirely different!
ReplyDeleteHold your jets Diana, you are spamming at this point. And the return of Buffy? Whedon seems to be very busy lately, and the writers are scattered allover the place. It would require such serendipity that the idea itself it's almost implausible.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly how I feel. I feel like I'm the minority who liked season 2 (until the writers strike ended the season early). I wish they'd kept away from trying to explain why they have powers etc.
ReplyDeletePlus they already have the comics continuing Buffy and Angel.
ReplyDeleteYeah, season eight and ATF were kinda rocky with the medium change and all, but S9 and Angel and Faith are freakingly awesome!
ReplyDeleteI've not seen S9, or Angel and Faith yet. So it's a definite step up from the meh season 8? (nothing bad exactly about S8, just had its moments)
ReplyDeleteLol! Hilarious. At least we know SMG actually knows how to use a stake. ;)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely; they have dialed the scale back to a setting more resembling to the show, more low key than the larger than life battlegrounds of the first season in comic format.
ReplyDeleteOf course, the plot is all about the fallout of season eight, and this season is all about how the world has changed and how the characters deal with it. Plus, Angel and Faith in London, completely awesome!
Agreed. SMG should go to a network with good, solid shows. She'd do great in an action-packed show like Person Of Interest. I would LOVE to see her do something cool on Fringe. Like, be part of "the resistance" and fight off the Observers. Also, would love to see her as a cool character on Once Upon a Time (I said "cool", like Red...not bad/boring ones like "Jiminy/Archie"...just my opinion here guys...). Actually, Gellar's character could probably pull off 'badass" & kick butt better than Emma has for most of the season, imo.
ReplyDeleteWell hallelujah to that! Really like her. She's very talented and needs some really good vehicle this time.
ReplyDelete"And after how disappointing Mikael & evil-Alaric turned out to be"
ReplyDeleteEvil Alaric was quite disappointing for me. He's supposed to be a remorseless vampire killing machine and he kept choosing not to kill Damon over and over again. It made no sense.
We hope that the CW would consider making more new episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the original cast. There must be new stories to tell about the Scooby Gang. The best thing that it would be starring the original cast. It should be written by Joss Whedon.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be interesting if they brought SMG back for another season of Buffy.
ReplyDeleteIt's been what... almost ten years since the series ended? It'd be neat
to see Buffy as a mother and to see how the others have changed and
grown while dealing with the next Big Bad.
I don't know why ppl are so hard on ringer, I thought it was amazing and I think I am a damn good judge of art.
ReplyDelete
