Holy crap. Now THAT'S how you end a season. Way better than any other finale so far this season.
So Turing was Root. Didn't see that happening. I'm glad they addressed her before the season was over. I shall miss Crazy Bird Lady (my name for Alicia), though. That was one hell of a Batman Gambit of Turing to pull off; I wonder why. At the very least, we will see Finch's "contingency plan".
Can we get an amen for Mr. Badass, Reese? I cheered when the car exploded; and when Reese just calmly dropped a one-liner and walked out, I just lost it. And Finch was right in there: that EMP that killed the cell phones was awesome. I just love this show.
That's about all I have to say at this point; Mentalist is on.
Poor Finch! Knowing Root's track record...I'm very worried for him. I wonder where she took him... The final scene was so reminiscent of the first episode...until he spoke to the camera. Then my heart stopped with glee (no worries, it started again...or I'm a zombie. BRAAAINS!)
How awesome was the car chase? And Reese's extreme calm attitude through it all.
Man that was brilliant lol. To be honest though, my only problem, would be that maybe it would have been better had this been a 2 hour part finale. A LOT happened. lol. I mean. damn. lol
But thats me being nitpicky. Hard to complain about anything that happened.
I must say, its incredible as to how much this show improved over the course of the season.
Awesome episode! What an amazing way to end the season! When I saw Amy Acker was going to be in the finale I was guessing and hoping that she would end up being Root which would mean we get to have her come back for guest appearances. And I'm glad that Carter and Fuscoe are finally aware of one another and didn't try to kill one another after that.
Finch, though, where are they going if she didn't want to see the machine? And damn it, I knew it was coming (just as Lost's first season ending with the hatch), but I want to know who was on the other end of the phone! Definitely the best new show from this year and it is without a doubt contending for my Top 10 list.
This + the awesome Community 3-episode finale tonight ... TV, I praise thee!
wow, hell of a finale! I sooo love Amy A and never saw the twist coming! I can't wait to see what mayhem that Root will be up to next season! Love that Fusco and Carter finally got the fog lifted and they know that they are on the same side, and I'm sure that there will be growing pains in that relationship. I'm still wondering who/what was watching Reese and made the call at the end............... fantastic finish to a satisfying season!
That WAS awesome! ! ! Was very fast paced & so much tension ! Loved it!*Amy Acker (love her- great at playing duel roles: good/bad crazy/sane ) as Root! Did not see that one coming! And just what is she gonna do with Our Man Finch? Does this mean that next season she's gonna be the big bad?- besides the USUAL bad guys?*Fusco & Carter FINALLY learning their on the same team ( Carter's little smile at the end). *Simmon's from HR saw Fusco & Carter helping Reese- That can't be good!*Reese Talking - or rather Telling the monitor/Machine to help: & the Machine stating: Continuity Compromised "*Reese! He's always so calm, great w the one-liners, hyper-vigilant & smoooooooth! Jim Caviezel is wonderful! *Our Man Finch: rich librarian w a great vocabulary! Michael Emerson does him justice- much like he did w Benjamin Linus! So exciting...... now comes (sigh) the long wait........
Holy Crap one of the best season finale ever. Just fantastic and intrigue. I want the seaso 2 now. Root is very smart use HR and Reese to get Finch, wow, just wow.
It wasn't an EMP. If it was, ALL phones would be knocked out. It was a jam of some sort. That's how they white-listed only their cell so they could talk still.
Well hello Amy Acker....or is that Root? Hmm.... maybe too early to tell, but I thought we would get some Root resolution this finale and she fits the general appearance....
Is it just me or does eee seem to be too relaxed and innocent or oblivious? I'm thinking she has to be less of a victim in this one even if we know that HR has a hit on her... Maybe it is just that I have always found Amy Acker a bit "obvious" in her acting? Then again her character's name gave it all away, but more on that later.....
Nice to have Paige Turco back too... And Alicia Corwin.... Well that can't be good! XD
*Note to self* - Hide inside entry closets if a hit squad is after you since they do not check inside them and decide rooms are "clear" anyway.
I liked this "dualing moles" situation - one a double agent whose cover is a dirty cop and the other is a double agent whose cover is a good cop! Ok it does feel a bit too big of a coinicedence or like the world is too small, but hey.... this show is more about entertainment escapism than gripping reality.
Finch has some serious skillz!!
Carter is so sure she knows..... surprise!
Brilliant of Root to use herself as a victim lure to get to Team Machine... .although I guess I expected Root would be exposed that way eventually.
Who would have thought Alicia Corwin was going to be Finch's would-be-savior? Not me!
Overall this was very good to me, but not awesome honestly. The Dr. Turing was Root reveal was entirely too obvious, but I chalk that up to Amy Acker's acting ability honestly. I also felt the HR arc wrapped up a little too neatly.
I did, however, love the Alicia Corwin twist, the action, and the end scene with Reese turning to the camera (in essence The Machine) and telling it that it was going to help him now!
I also LOVED that Acker's character name was "Turing" since it relates direct to artificial intelligence in computers and the episode directly. Alan Turing is the forefather or Artificial Intelligence in computers and had the Turing Test that was a measure of a machine's ability to show human-like behavior and test if it can "think" for itself
This entire episode could have been entitled The Turing Test! XD.
Alan Turing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Turing
The Turing Test: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test
I found it interesting that they did not let us hear the "voice" on the phone in the last scene. I wonder if it will be a PC generated voice or if it will be an actual person on the line....
Could Ingram be alive and have access to the machine na bd calling Reese? I don't think so, but it would be interesting.
I looooooooooooooved it .. not as explosive as I thought it would be .. I think it was all too "coincidence" for my liking (I mean the man-hunt of FBI and HR) Root & Alicia were the most interesting..
The car explosion was AWESOME.. & I loved Reese talking to the machine (parallel to the pilot) & it (or someone) calling back.. I still think Ingram is alive.. I can't wait to S2 and to know where is Finch..
The HR vs the FBI race to see who got their target first was so coincidental it was almost comical (I smirked a few times at how contrived it was), but I still found it all fun so it did not bother me too much thankfully!
I like the idea of a computer generated voice, but wonder if that would be too "Skynet-ish"... I didn't even think about Ingram still being alive... it would be interesting and I just realized that they still haven't flashed back to the "incident" that presumably killed Ingram and perhaps crippled Finch
the man-hunt in No Good Deed was so very done compared to this.. I felt kinda disappointed since it's both HR and FBI, my expectation undoubtedly rose after that episode.. I was a bit let down now!
The one thing that I don't think that anybody else has brought up though is that I don't think that the HR plot is entirely done with. The one street cop in HR that we've seen in multiple episodes (and who was coordinating the hit team tonight) escaped and if I'm not wrong he saw Fusco in the parking garage when he and Carter came to save Reese. My guess is that they kept him alive (and made a point of not showing him being arrested) to come after Fusco for some payback next season for betraying him and HR.
Ha, our guess or hope was right when Amy Acker was cast that she would be Root. :D All the time during the episode I had in my mind "Don't trust her, don't trust her!!". And the Touring Test, a bell ringed there as well for me.
Amazing. I'm glad they got the extra hour. I don't think it would have worked as the first episode of the new season, it wouldn't have built up enough tension and buzz. This episode kind of called back to the first one with the woman they were helping turning out to be the baddie but who knew she THE BIG BAD? I like that Amy will more than likely be around a lot next season. I'm glad they didn't go the obvious route with Stanton or even make it Zoe aka The Fixer Root (ps how great was it to her helping our mutual friend, yet again). Now, I am going to be in full re-watch/obsessing mode going over every thing with a fine toothed comb. I wonder how long until we get the back story on Root, I'm dying to know what her deal is. I hope the FBI isn't really that useless in real life. Carter and Fusco finally know, I'm not sure how I feel about that. But they might be the new couple to ship (not that I'm a shipper but Tumblr is full of them). Poor Alicia Corwin, she really didn't even have a clue. I thought I would have no words because I was thoroughly impressed with this episode. Definitely the BEST EPISODE YET! Next season is going to be amazing.
It's really great seeing a new show like P.O.I. come along. If it can keep up it's pace and quality, I think it should have a good long life-span. I'll be waiting for season 2.
The final scene with the pay phone ringing was so MATRIX! I half expected Reese to go up and break the sound barrier! lol! He can do ANYTHING! I suppose next seasons hashtag will be #WhereIsFinch
I had a suspition the shrink might be Root...I was sure of it in the elevator :D. The whole time I was thinking what a terrible actress plays her, but then the idea came into my head that she is Root :D
I hate when the vilain is a hot chick :D...it's much more difficult to hate her :D
I'm voting for an Artificial Intelligence answer here - but then I love "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" (misleading title but superb AI 2nd lead character). I'd almost forgotten about Root, so I didn't click to how the whole thing was contrived, it can be so hard to tell if its intentional or bad-writing-day... so I just go with it! Yay escapism :D
Let the season 2 countdown begin! (probably with a full season re-do, defib on stand-by!!!)
Great post! You listed pretty much everything I was thinking too!
Turing/Root - As with Elias, there was something off w/ Turing/Root to me. I attribute that to both actors' acting abilities, showing slight slips in their characters that show that something's not right.
Zoe - I liked how POI used her character in this episode. Actually, I too was really worried she was gonna die when she went to Turing's office to check things out. So glad Zoe's alive to be another asset for Reese & Finch.
Alicia - I didn't think Alicia was tracking Root. She alluded to "other forces" that could be worse for Finch, which I assumed were the bad CIA entities that tried to kill off anybody knowing about 'the machine'. Although, if POI ties the plots together and makes Root the ultimate big bad that is behind all those acts (ie, CIA baddies, killing those who know about 'the machine', etc.), I'd be open to that. I just thought that Alicia was following Finch, and doesn't know of Root.
I prefer Ingram be dead and still the good guy he was portrayed as being. Making Ingram secretly bad and behind everything, would be horrible. That plot device, making everybody have a secret agenda, and you never know if a good guy really is, or just pretending, is becoming a bit overdone in several tv shows now. Plus, POI has so many bad guy groups, adding more enemy story arcs would make the show become too complicated imo.
WOW doesn't even come close to describing this ep for me and the first season has become better and better with every ep.
This is definitely the best new show of the season and amongst my all time favs. Everyone else has covered all the things that are running around in my mind. I don't think I can offer anything insightful as I am just regaining my breathe and about to watch it again.
One thing I am looking forward to more of next season is Elias!
Agreed. A little too much was going on in this episode for me (ie, both HR and FBI against Reese...and then there's Root behind everything). But, I did enjoy it still. One of the better finales this season for me.
I mane they have already let us know that the agency/company (DIA?) that is behind the Machine's creation is bad and around looking for Reese. So If Ingram was less the innocent victim of that company and more the mastermind it would not be a new bad entity to add to the series.
That said, I think Imgram's death being the impetus that got Finch moving into helping the PoIs is great as it is!
I agree and more my questions are: Why she take Finch? She want the machine? She work alone or have another person interesting in Finch too? So many questions.
see because of a spoiler i knew root was appearing but the good thing is it didnt say who was root so i was still pleasantly surprised. At first i thought it was the girl alicia who was stalking finch, then at the last moment of hacking i thought Zoe was untill i saw root on the computer and amy acker came in then i knew she was Root!! Finally all the villains of team machine have been revealed: Elias now in jail, Agent Snow and the bad CIA members still out there, HR weakend but still involved, and Root finally revealed and turned out to be the season finale antagonist mainly and has finch. Its funy how both root and elias were both pretending to be the victims and it turned out they were the villains that team machine was after. lol. i love this show! and now fusco and carter know they are on the same side so thats good.
O also the camera at the end when reese was talking to it and the phone rang i have a feeling i know whos behind it. I call it now that its finch's old friend nathan i think is his name the guy we've been seeing in flashbacks with finch who helped create the machine i bet he's still alive although maybe paralyzed or hurt somehow where he wanted to work the machine but couldnt leave maybe something like that. Idk i just think theres more to the machine and his death.
i think thats great to and they can keep it that way and reveal it was imgram behind it as a bad guy and that would just give finch more development into character as to how the machine is to him now that he knows his friend and co creator basically is behind it, he'll have to realize his previous life could've been different if not for imgram, im just saying that either way they go with the character it will give i think some decent development to finch and also a huge step in the story of the machine and the characters involvement with it. But personally im hoping he's alive and is a good guy and working the machine maybe because he did get like paralyzed maybe like waist down or something bad that made him have to stay out of the public eye.
how sure r we the Machine hasn't evolved into an AI? it IS programmed to fix itself and improve itself after all...also, notice how Reese's 'designation' on the camera shots has changed from 'ex-military' to 'asset' :D
Agent snow and the bad cia members got killed by reese's ex-partner a few episodes ago, but since her current allegiances aren't known she could be a future antagonist. Her last contact with reese was shooting him in the gut...
What an amazing season finale! I just love this show and how "smart" it is compared to a lot of other shows out there.
My thoughts on Root is that she was hired by the "people" that Finch referred to as he spoke to Alecia. I think Alecia was the one leading Root to Finch and she didn't even know it. Alecia was the source that the government had before and because she was scared and wanted him to shut down the machine for good, the "people" needed to find Finch. Remember Nathan messed up with Alecia in that flashback and let it slip that there was another person who knew about the machine so this gave Alecia the chance to look for Finch. Root will be taking Finch to the "people" so they can finally get their hands on this machine at last.
I think that whatever John heard on the pay phone was the result of the procedures that Finch/Nathan put in place to protect the machine and then the possibility that Finch could be killed/kidnapped/etc. We heard Finch telling John in the earlier episode that he did have a plan in place if something happened to him.
One thing I was wondering, did we find out who it was that was feeding HR the intel on where Reese was? Fusco said he knew who it was but then didn't tell Carter... Or did I miss that bit :P
If I recall correctly there was a slim bald white task force agent that got arrested near the end. I think he walked out of the room somewhat fast or conspicuously right after Fusco said he knows everyone in HR.... I can't remember for sure since I watched it the night it aired and he was not the character I was watching for the most part! XD
well, for one thing, she took Finch because he has access to the machine. With it, the possibilities are endless. What she wants from it specifically is something we should wait and watch.
wow. Loved the dressing down Reese got for not telling either cop they were both working with him. And while I'm at it the bathroom scene with Fusco furiously explaining that he's actually a good guy was a hoot. They had me going. I didn't see the setup at all. I didn't expect the woman from the past to get dead that quickly or that way. And the phone ringing......whoa. awesome.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Can anyone tell me what happened from when the psychologist came into Finch's car to the end? My TV cut off. :(
ReplyDeleteHoly crap. Now THAT'S how you end a season. Way better than any other finale so far this season.
ReplyDeleteSo Turing was Root.
You're going to want to see it for yourself.
ReplyDeleteYou're going to want to see it for yourself.
ReplyDeleteHOLEY SMOKES!

Let the four-month hiatus commence! :(
Yeah, Root came way out of left field. I was pretty sure she'd end up being the CIA lady who had the piece of the Machine.
ReplyDeleteMan that was brilliant lol.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest though, my only problem, would be that maybe it would have been better had this been a 2 hour part finale. A LOT happened. lol. I mean. damn. lol

That said, I think Imgram's death being the impetus that got Finch moving into helping the PoIs is great as it is!
"Imgram's death being the impetus that got Finch moving into helping the PoIs is great as it is!" - This is exactly what I was thinking.
ReplyDeleteI agree and more my questions are: Why she take Finch? She want the machine? She work alone or have another person interesting in Finch too? So many questions.
ReplyDeleteMe too, because now HR is out and Elias for sure have a master plan for take NY down.
ReplyDeleteGLaDOS... Just sayin'...
ReplyDeleteI had to look it up, I'm not a gamer, but that sounds about right!! XD
ReplyDeletesee because of a spoiler i knew root was appearing but the good thing is it didnt say who was root so i was still pleasantly surprised.
ReplyDeleteO also the camera at the end when reese was talking to it and the phone rang i have a feeling i know whos behind it.
ReplyDeletei think thats great to and they can keep it that way and reveal it was imgram behind it as a bad guy and that would just give finch more development into character as to how the machine is to him now that he knows his friend and co creator basically is behind it, he'll have to realize his previous life could've been different if not for imgram, im just saying that either way they go with the character it will give i think some decent development to finch and also a huge step in the story of the machine and the characters involvement with it. But personally im hoping he's alive and is a good guy and working the machine maybe because he did get like paralyzed maybe like waist down or something bad that made him have to stay out of the public eye.
ReplyDeletehow sure r we the Machine hasn't evolved into an AI? it IS programmed to fix itself and improve itself after all...also, notice how Reese's 'designation' on the camera shots has changed from 'ex-military' to 'asset' :D
ReplyDeleteAgent snow and the bad cia members got killed by reese's ex-partner a few episodes ago, but since her current allegiances aren't known she could be a future antagonist. Her last contact with reese was shooting him in the gut...
ReplyDeleteYeah exactly. Don't worry...we'll find out :D
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing season finale! I just love this show and how "smart" it is compared to a lot of other shows out there.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on Root is that she was hired by the "people" that Finch referred to as he spoke to Alecia.
Can't wait for the new season!
Wicked finale for a great first season.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I was wondering, did we find out who it was that was feeding HR the intel on where Reese was? Fusco said he knew who it was but then didn't tell Carter... Or did I miss that bit :P
We did see who it was or it was implied at least.
ReplyDeleteIf I recall correctly there was a slim bald white task force agent that got arrested near the end.
ReplyDeletewow. And the phone ringing......whoa. awesome.
