I want to second my call for the "mind-blowing" label xD
one word: MIND-BLOWING..
I felt breathless through all this manhunt, I was emotional immersed in it I couldn't even breathe properly. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time..
Alicia Corwin is a psycho, idk what her story is.. I think Ingram is alive.. AND OMG! CARRIE PRESTON playing Finch's love interest.. can't this show get any moooooore PERFECT ..
Next week is gonna be explosive .. I need to re-watch..
- Marshal Gutterson (from Jusitfied), I mean Henry Peck is calling Alicia? Alicia Corwin? Indeed he is calling her! ha! XD
-Is Peck looking into the Machine and it's protecting itself? OR is the agency protecting it?
- Who knew Ron Perlman's son would be a government trained assassin? Okay maybe he looked more like the kid of Perlman and Kevin Bacon? XD
- Um what? What? The Machine upgrades itself? Maintains itself? Patches itself? Cannot be altered - EVER? Well thats sounds like a good idea! XD
- Michael Emerson's wife playing his ex-fiancee... That's fun!
- Is Alicia on the run from the machine and looking for clues to the Machine's source? Really interesting to see Finch deal with his past and see himself in the person he is protecting! The web of conspiracy is tightening up as the series goes on and it is being very, very well executed! Nice to see a well done series actually getting viewers for a change of pace! XD There is a reason PoI is the #1 new drama this season!!!
- Interesting related scientific factoid: I just saw a show today that explored whether or not a single shot or even 2 shots can blow up a car. They used a similar 50cal sniper rifle..... it must be the weapon of choice for snipers of cars! XD
Anyway, they came to the conclusion that it can be done with 2 rounds , but not like it's usually shown on TV! The first round needs to pierce the gas tank and allow the gas fumes to filter into the air. The second round has to be a tracer round so when the tracer round's explosive charge ignites or "lights up" it will ignite the gas fumes.
I thought it was interesting! Here is part of the segment, but Discovery does not have the full segment on their site sadly..... http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/penn-teller-tell-a-lie-two-bullets-blow-up-a-car.html
I cannot decide what exactly Corwin's story is either..... - Is the Machine trying to kill Alicia Corwin and she has been running to avoid it? - Ingram and/or the DIA is trying to kill her and she is on the run? - Her repeated attempts to find out about the Machine has just made her paranoid because other people she knows were attached to the Machine were killed under "mysterious circumstances"
well, so far the theories were a mix between the first and last one.. IDK why Ingram would kill her tbh? (is he the William Bell of POI xD) maybe she's Team Anti-Machine and looking to destroy it by herself..
I guess next week the confrontation would get us some new interesting stuff..
Don't forget how interesting it was to learn that it wasn't Finch who built the back-door into The Machine! It was Nathan all along. Not to mention that Nathan let slip to Alicia that there was another person in on the secret. He seemed to cover it well enough, but I wonder if she believed him at that point, considering how freaked she got when Will mentioned Finch/Wren to her.
Hugely satisfying episode that gave us tons of background with plenty to ponder about what's coming in the future with the crazy Alicia Corwin.... loved seeing Micheal Emerson's real wife as Finch's ex fiancee and the possible future confrontation/collaboration with Fusco and Carter.... awesome episode
Excelent episode, just awesomeeeeeeeeee. Alicia Corwin find the true. New player in the game (NSA), who is the big guy in Washington, what really happy with Nathan, a lot of question and just a few anwsers.
Jacob Pitts make good guest star, your character is very smart like Finch.
Finch have a wife and is her real wife hahahahaa. Wonderful surprise see Carrie Preston is this show.
It did not surprise me to find out that Ingram created the back door really. Finch always seemed to almost be "forced" into helping others as a way to make amends for something that happened in his past. I thought maybe Ingram got killed and Finch felt responsible at first, but after learning more about Ingram I think it could be something else....
I did find it surprising that Corwin was trying to find Finch though! I guess she was looking for the :8th person" that Ingram mentioned more likely, but it still surprised me and adds another layer or five to Corwin in the grand scheme of things!
Before I thought she was just on the run from someone or something, but now it seems like she is actively looking for Finch, the creator of hte Machine, the mystery 8th person (of course those are all Harold).... Maybe she is just looking for a way out of her current predicament. Whatever the case there is a lot more to her as we have seen the last few weeks!
Hmm yet another reason why I should check out Justified. Another show I really do need to get into (along with Breaking Bad).
Well Eurotrip is a pretty funny, stupid movie if you ever have the time to view it again. I own it but got burnt out of it a few years ago when I was forced to watch it 8 times within a couple days.
OMG I loved last nights....I have to say I hope Henry Peck becomes a heavy reoccurer, as much trouble as he has gotten Reese and Finch into, I still think he would be a fun and useful addition to team machine. They seemed to set up that Alison probably knows where he went, since she was surveying him and Finch...
It was also GREAT to see Michael Emerson's real life wife, Carrie Preston, play his character's former fiance. It really added a great element on what Finch had to sacrifice for his machine. I was glad Reese couldn't find where Finch really lived, but instead found something that Finch lost and saved, something Reese didn't do.
It was also a nice reveal to know that Reese was officially unofficially black-opps and how the situation provided a contrast to his own rougeness, as they still "blindly" take orders...
One of my favorite scenes was when Henry was in the interrogation room with Fusco and just went on and on about really sensitive information infront of the camera ...and then Reese just busts in and gets him out!
I am confused about that too. It's seems like there is/was something really weird going on between Ingram and her. The episode basically refreshed us that Finch designed the machine to not be able to be abused, and Ingram basically suggests (as a former engineer) that eventually someone can...I do think it almost sets up that idea that Ingram betrayed Finch...but how that relates to Alison I am not sure unless like you said Alison is in the same boat as Henry Peck....
I've watched P.O.I. from the start and think this was the best episode yet. Great plot, exciting action and seeing a human side of Finch. It also left a great lead in for following events. Top marks on this one.
this has to be most mind blowing show I have ever seen. and I have never seen so much reality with respect to computing ever before! they talk about discreet communication and the shannon theorem this week...it just feels great that there are such good writers out there.
yes. it was sort of a surprise to me when Finch disagrees to create a backdoor when in the pilot he has he has a backdoor. at that point i thought it could be Ingram and sure enough, towards the end of the episode, he creates a new namespace within the code called "contingency" and I am all but sure that it's work is not just for an irrelevant list. I bet he has written a method in the code to shut down the system if need arises.. I hope we learn more about the contigency section of the machine's architecture in the future.
no no... I don't think that "the machine" is really self aware to the point of targeting someone with it's own agenda. I think either the govt is going after her or after knowing what the machine is capable of, she just doesn't want to be a part of the machine's surveillance. there still are people, believe it or not, that try to live off the grid. But I am sure if not this season then in the next we will find out more about her.
yes. Reese was getting close to Finch's secrets and the machine had 3 options: Mitigate, Subvert, Monitor. But then again, I think Finch is a special case. After this episode we know the machine self upgrades, self patches, self maintains (I would be out of a job if all software can do that :D), so is it possible that Finch is still the one and only "admin" of the machine (Ingram dead) and therefore seen as an indispensable asset to the machine?
we have seen the drives, we have seen the servers. the machine exists. the NSA has been feeding it every bit of information that it receives outside the shannon limit. and as peck himself said, assessing that kind of data will need an organization at least 10 times bigger than NSA, and thinking about how big NSA is, it's hard to fathom the kind of processing power this thing has!!!
Ya it could almost be a paternal thing where the Machine is looking out for its creator or father. I don't want to read too much into the Machine and personify it as and self aware entity with an IA and personality, but if it upgrades itself and maintains itself it does seem to have some self-evolving element to it.
yes. that is one thing that sort is out of tune with reality to me, but as it should. the machine is the only sci fi aspect and creating it has been a true feat of genius of Finch's part. And that is the aspect I have been giving most thought since the episode. to make a software self upgrade, is possible, the program to do that has to be almost as big (or bigger) than the actual pattern recognition algorithm itself. It has to recognize potential areas that can be improved upon, and then look at the new technology and decide a development cycle and start prototyping and testing the new changes and since it's all automated, I am guessing the testing has to be done with much greater finesse as a small problem could stop the entire software from compiling. I mean, that is the reason software engineers like us are. the software can go on do all the calculations and data functions but when it needs an upgrade or there is a bug and it needs a patch, it needs humans. a self fixing machine is just a little too out there for this show. But it does not ruin the experience for me one bit, and I am sure they will show more about it in the future.
I liked the entrance of NSA in the game (I feel reading "Digital Fortress" by Dan Brown hahaha). I thing this agency could be a great threat for season 2, maybe. I agree with you, Finch is a really genius, build this machine is fantastic for him, but is danger the same time.
yes. Digital Fortress, again one of the best techno thrillers out there. but I had guessed the kill code of the worm a few chapters before they found out in the book so there was bit of me running through the pages waiting for them to figure it out, but other than that it was awesome.
Also, speaking of Dan Brown, I think the book with the best potential for an awesome movie is Deception Point. I am surprised that no one has taken it up yet. That book can make a fantastic movie!!!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

Amazing episode, Peck was just trying to do his job and blundered into knowing about the machine. I hope he took Finch's advice and forget about it.
ReplyDeleteAwesome episode as always! And was that Cooper from Eurotrip?
ReplyDeleteI have watched Justified for 3 years now and never realized Pitts was Cooper from Eurotrip! XD
ReplyDeleteOf course I have only seen Eurotrip one time in its entirety.... so that may have something to do with it....
Hmm yet another reason why I should check out Justified. Another show I really do need to get into (along with Breaking Bad).

ReplyDeleteYou know he didn't, he's like a dog with a bone (and Finch did say he reminded him of his self and Finch is nothing if not persistent).

ReplyDeleteI'm glad high-concept is in style!
ReplyDeleteProof: PoI and Touch have been renewed.
But then again, not enough people tuned into Awake, so maybe not.
i am really sorry for finch he lost so much
ReplyDeleteSo did any one else think that black opps guy that Reese kill was like an aged reversed version of Chuck Norris? :p
ReplyDeleteAt first i thought it was the guy from Chuck and Firefly (Jayne)... someone above mentioned Ron Perlman and now that's who i'm seeing in his face :)))

ReplyDeleteWasn't it self aware early in the season and did a risk assessment of whether or not someone was dangerous?
ReplyDeleteIt would be an interesting twist oif there was in fact no Machine and it was just Finch or other NOCs supplying information! A very Oz-like moment! XD
Pay no attention to the man behind the monitor!
yes. Reese was getting close to Finch's secrets and the machine had 3 options: Mitigate, Subvert, Monitor. But then again, I think Finch is a special case.
