  1. I voted okay.  I won't even go into a big list of do's and don't.

I liked everything a lot, but that little "Jeyne explains CPR" thing? Yeah, dropped it from "Great" to "Okay".  Ugh, that was so painful.

  2. North:
~ "Already got one Crow, don't need two."

    - I'm glad found the Dragonsglass blades. The plot thickens!
    - I think this was the first Night's Watch scene with Dam, Grenn and Edd that did not have fart jokes or Sam covetting women! Well only if you exclude latrine jokes I guess.

    Winterfell:
~ "We both loved our mother. We both endured our father."

    - I did not epect Ramsay to make an appearance despite the episode synopsis, but I was a bit surprised that YarAsha visited. Gemma has won me over in the role now. Not how I read Asha in the books, but I really enjoy Whelan as Yara.
    - Glad Bran, Rickon, Hodor and Osha are back in the tombs....  back on track with the books for the most part.

    Riverlands:
~ "He was the best man I ever met. I know children always belive that about their fathers, but he truly was."

Jeyne actually did not annoy me tonight, but that was a serious long scene with her and Robb. Not sure it was worth it since we learned little and already knew Robb had fallen for "Talisa" from earlier episodes.

    King's Landing:
~ "We rounded up all the known theives. Now it's just the unknown thieves we need to worry about."

    - I was glad to see Bronn again!
I love how he turned around the Gold Cloaks in his short stint as City Guard Commander.
    - *Waits for Ros bitching to begin... then goes to get coffee*
    - Joffrey is such a tool. It had to be said again....
    - It was nice to see Varys again and the scenes with Tyrion were quite good.

    Harrenhal:
    ~ "Jaqen H'Ghar"

    - I so loathe Hot Pie! He never entertained me in the books either. - A man did his job quite well and Arya's path to freedom was littered with corpses!

    Qarth:
~ "A mother does not flee without her children."

    - Seriously Dany? So you seriously think any who bore witness to your naked ass walking out of the flames unharmed by fire with 3 dragonlettes crawling around your body will ever forget it? Seriously?

Overall this was just a good episode for me...

I liked the advancement of all the plots even if it was rather action free.  I loved hearing the tale of Davos Seaworth's knighting! (Imagine a Hand with no fingers! XD)  I just wish the Robb/ Jeyne scenes were shorter since they  were boring, uninspiring and did not inform the viewer of much other than meaningless info about how Jeyne got the medical bug and Robb got the Jeyne bug. It was like an episode of "Jeyne's Anatomy" with Robb Stark as McWolfy. Kinda pathetic. The scenes not Jeyne's anatomy.....

  3. I was so pissed at how they keep fucking up Cat's character and storyline that I didn't pay much attention to the rest to be honnest. Will re watch later.
    Still, happy for Jamie/Brienne!

  4. Dude...except for a couple of good character moments, this wasn't great. And no one actually bought that it was the Stark brothers last episode did they? I was like "yeah right"...so of course that's the "big reveal" at the end of this episode. I hope Blackwater and 2.10 is really freaking amazing...cause I feel like with how short these seasons are, they need to pack more in :P

  5. Just an "ok" ep for me tonight, as alot of it seemed to drag on (the Robb and his crush scene mostly)... I did enjoy some of the smaller bits - like the Bronn and Tyrion scene was great..

    ReplyDelete
  6. No, 'Oh, Theon' moment, not enough John Snow or Dany AND Jamie is STILL all scraggly, it got an OK for me. We get it Robb has a crush next story line please!

  7. Forgot to post the still from tonight and one from next week's episode...

  8. I am the only one that liked the Robb/Talisa scenes? I'm not like in love with that plot in comparison with any others, but seeing Robb being presented with some tenderness amidst the fuckery that is this war was rather sweet in my opinion, and maybe the only moment of romance this season. And that line "I hope it's a really nice bridge" really tugged my shriveled heart.

Are we sure that Talisa is Jeyne, right?

But yeah, I have enjoyed the Robb and Talisa romance this far.

About the episode in general, I liked it; I really like slow episodes as much as action packed ones, and in this one we got to see lots of character interactions and development and backstory, I loved it. I would have appreciated a greater sense of urgency though, the atmosphere itself was a bit to quiet.

Yara was great in this episode, a personal highlight. And even if I don't like the fact that the Dany storyline seems to be stretched to reach the house of the undying in the finale, (I'm positive we wont see her next ep) I really liked the stylistic choice of how they presented her scene in this episode by Varys telling Tyrion that she is alive. Not very inportant to the plot, but it was a detail I liked.

  9. I think a number of people liked the Robb/ Talisa scenes.

They were needed I guess. That part of the story had to be told but it just felt 2 or 3 times as long as it needed to be to me.

Aside from that my major issue with how the series had handled the Robb romance is it does not compute to me. This man is on a mission to avenge his father and save his sisters and brothers. The son trying to live up to the image of his father, the most honor-bound man in the universe, and he makes time to flirt and go on nature hikes?

In the books (I forget if you have rad them) Robb was enjoyed and Jeyne (or Talisa as she is going by now) nursed him back to health. It made sense to me that as he lay wounded he could fall for the woman taking care of him. He would not need to ignore the duties of battle and the pressure of leading thousands of men (as he is in the series) since he would be recovering from his wounds.

I can love a slow episode too. I like the still quiet moments that speak volumes. I agree though.... a sense of urgency would have been nice and added some much needed tension to the scenes.

  10. This was really the love episode for sure!
Almost every arc dealt with love and how each person reacted rather irrationally because of it.
    - Jon faced the consequences of not killing Ygritte.
    - Catelyn let Jaime go for the love of her daughters.
    - Cersei lashed out at (who she thought was) Tyrion's whore as revenge for him sending her daughter away.
    - Robb ignored previous commitments and oaths to get a little Volantian on the side.
    - Tyrion was willing to let Ros be whipped and punished so that Shae could be safe.
    - Dany stays in Qarth for the love of her children... the dragons.
    - Theon deals with sacking Winterfell and murdering the Stark lads in an attempt to get the love of his father.

To paraphrase Jaime Lannister from Season 1...
"The things we do for love."

  11. It was ok, a lot of it dragged especially the Robb/Talisa (Jeyne) scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I liked this episode (as I always do). It was good to see Jaime and Brienne off on their journey. I hope we see a little more of them before the end of the season. Jaime is the best!!

I loved the scene with Tyrion and Varys. Loved how they filmed them standing together, big and small and both so intelligent. it was also good to hear Dany´s name being mentioned in Kingslanding.

The Robb/Jeyne scenes were ok with me. I liked how he talked about Ned.

Not much happend north of the wall, but I still love those scenes because it is so beautiful there.

Theon and Yara were great! I really think she makes an excellent Yara. Theons confusion is awesome.

I wish they would have waited a while with showing Bran. I knew he was ok from the books, but in the books we had to wait a lot longer.

Dany´s one scene....no comment, didn´t see the point.

  13. I agree with you on Tyrion having he chain created. It´s a big part of tyrions story and says a lot about him. I wish they would have put that story in. we can still have a little hope.....

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't really see what there is to like about it.  Not only did they change Jeyne into Talisa, which is stupid and pointless, but they've made Robb willfully stupid instead of childishly willful.

But more important than all of that is the fact we had what felt like a 10 minute lull in the episode where Talisa explains the wonders of CPR.  They've become showbreakers.  Instead of showing us Robb as the dashing war hero, he's some love sick puppy that's just not very likable because he's going out of his way to impress some character insert whose purpose seems to be to present a contrary opinion to whatever he says.

Jon Snow and Ygritte are MUCH more effective and they're handled in short bursts. GRRM was not wrong to show us this if this is how it went down, because the story did it a lot better.  Robb being injured and cared for by a sweet and shy Jeyne Westerling and making a critical mistake while away from his mother >>> Robb being reminded of his duties and going "lol anyway" because he wants to bang some chick that explained CPR to him.

  15. You're so right... it always amazes me that in a time full of violence, war, and a constant struggle for power, people's actions are so often driven by love.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well the major change is that she did all this before she found out about Bran and Rickon... and Robb has become Edmure since he's never left her side.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I was talking to a friend yesterday as I watched the show and was like "did Tyrion even start on his chain yet..?"  The chain is so important for so many reasons and it also helps cement Davos' distrust for someone else down the line.

I don't know, I felt the episode DIED with Jeyne and that Dany's "I'm going to play Jorah" scene was just a bit of necrophilia in the wake of it already being a dead horse.

I also laughed when Ros replaced Alayaya, as if that was a surprise at all.

Really there was a lot good in the episode and I think I need to rewatch it and just fast forward through that scene because it left me irritated beyond belief.

I'm not feeling the chemistry between Jaime and Brienne yet either, which makes me kind of sad.  We need more "wench".

    ReplyDelete
  18. Overall, I just voted "okay". The Robb/Talisa stuff dragged on - I feel like they could have wrapped it up a lot sooner without devoting as much time to it as they did. And although I refused to believe that Bran was actually dead, it was nice to see my suspicions confirmed. Meanwhile, Theon continues to run around in circles trying to prove himself. A part of me thinks it's hilarious that his sister keeps throwing each decision he makes back in his face.. there's just no pleasing her!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Agreed - that Bronn and Tyrion scene may have been one of my favorite scenes of the entire episode, which is pretty sad.

    ReplyDelete
  20.  I didn't think it was painful at all.

    ReplyDelete
  21. More important than anything, to me, was the fact that Shae and Tyrion actually seemed to be in love for once.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I ranked it as only slightly better than Littlefinger's talk with Ros.

    Unnecessary is unnecessary is unnecessary.

    ReplyDelete
  23. There was not a lot of chemistry between Jaime and Brienne you're right....
However, I think that is by design. We will get their banter later and hopefully many Jaime-isms!

I think NCW or Jaime could have chemistry with anyone. He just has such a perfect grasp on the character to me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. This was the first time I ever fast forwarded through part of a Thrones episode on second watching. Both Robb and Jeyne scenes were bad , but the sex scene was absolutely painful to watch!
Each to their own... I know some actually liked the scene.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I really have not minded (or honestly hardly noticed) the changes to Cat's story this season honestly. I always thought she was as "pathetic" as Ned in many ways, just the female version of him.

Where Ned was duty bound and was honorable at the cost of logic and his life, Catelyn is devoted to her family at the cost of logic and the loyalty of Robb's men.

I still loved Eddard Stark and was fascinated by his honor at all costs mentality. Catelyn I found a very strong character in some ways, but equally weak in others.

I agree with GB Jr though. The biggest change in her story to me was the timing of Jaime's release. Her motives barely changed honestly since it was all about her children and the possibility of saving them at any cost. I just think it played better when she thought she lost her younger boys and felt that something needed to be done immediately to save the girls.

  26. Brienne and Jamie's Excellent Adventures start here which automatically without a doubt makes it an 'awesome' episode for me. Add in some Tyrion/Bronn much needed humour scenes. The continued brilliance of Peter Dinklage owning every second he is on screen. Plus some Sam time and I am very happy.

  27. So I'll ask again, do you think the people that haven't read the books generally rate episodes higher than the book worms? I really haven't had much of a problem with many of the things people who have read the books have had problems with.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I enjoyed it, the Talisa/Robb scenes were ok too. They reminded the viewers that Robb is already betrothed and showed that Oona Chaplin has an amazing body :)

Definitely a calm before the storm episode overall though.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't think it had anything to do with the books.  It was just boring television.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think ti really depends on the type of viewer honestly. From the few I personally talk to and what many others have said online, many non-readers found this episode quite slow. I'm not sure they liked it less or more though....

However with other episodes I think that those that haven't read the books rate episodes higher. Those little scenes and moments from the book that so many latch onto as personally favorites get scrapped and anger the readers, but the non-readers never notice.

I think there is so much to love about Game of Thrones and it is so much more epic in scale than everything on TV that the non-readers have a lot to love without the small details bogging them down.

Of course there are little things in the series that the readers notice and love that nonreaders may miss.... I guess I'm just not sure if they rate it higher or lower.

I'm not the typical reader or at least not the typical fan honestly I don't think. So many of those "special moments" left little impact on me.Things like Renly's peach and Weasel Soup were fun, but I did not miss them at all. I have liked the large majority of the changes in the series. Maybe 75% or more....

I'm just critical by nature and can't overlook some aspects just because I love others. Thankfully that trait is limited to TV and movies (for the most part) or I would have no friends and multiple kill contracts on me! XD

    ReplyDelete
  31. On other forums there has been speculation that the Oona nude scene used a body double since it was the first time you could not see the actor's or actress's face clearly and their nude body at the same time.XD

I really did not notice any body swapping subterfuge, but I barely paid attention by the end of the scene since the first 5 minutes lost me.... and I forwarded through the entire scene on my second watch. XD

When I do sit down to watch it again I will have to try to take a closer look...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeah, I haven't read the books, so I really don't have a point of comparison, I'm kind of taking the series at face value. But I'm okay with it, cause I don't have the burden to go back and forth comparing the two mediums.

Maybe the book did it better (and when I read it I'll know for sure) But I have thus far liked the contrast between the war that Robb leads and his seemingly meet-cute and all romance. It's like he's a king, but also still a man, I think that the dichotomy fleshes him over. Of course this is all from the perspective of just a TV viewer.

    ReplyDelete
  33. i'm talking from the perspective of someone that hasn't read the books, so I'm basing their interactions just by what I see on screen; and I am liking it.

Did the book handled it better? I don't know, I will when I read the book. I have no point of comparison but just what I see, I think that Robb's development has made sense and just shows that he is can be swayed by love (or his dick, as Cersei put it) Will it come to bite him in the ass? I have to wait and see.

But I honestly think that the Robb/Talissa scene was necessary; there's a deep connection /strong chemistry with them. Be it love or lust is strong, and I expect that it will play a role with future revelations. I don't think that the scene was gratuitous, I think is to show us what are the feelings between them.

Now, we just have to expect how they handle it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Robb isn't a focal character in the books at all.  So the TV show gives you more of him, for better or worse.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The major difference is that Jeyne Westerling, who the book has, is a sweet girl that's kind of lost in this whirlwind that surrounds Robb.  Talisa from Volantis, however, is hardly phased by his presence.

The love is fine.  I guess.  The issue is how it's presented.  The show has to slow down to show this inevitable thing.  Since it's inevitable, they can be swifter.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I agree!I almost fell asleep when Talisha was talking about her brother.I liked them together in episode 4 but now this romance has started to piss me off because of the reasons you said in the second paragraph!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think that would require a separate poll...  :-)  I think it might have a baring and it would be interesting.  I'm kind of curious how many of the spoiler tv viewers read the books.  I suspect I'm in a teeny minority.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Tyrion definitely seemed in love. I think it was the first time I saw this kind of acting from Peter, it was great. For the first time ever, Tyrion Lannister looked vulnerable to me.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Agreed on all points. In the book he was just charmed by the girl who took care of him, took her virginity and then the poor guy, his father's true son, found himself torn between being honorable and marrying the girl and being honorable and keeping his word to the Freys. One moment of weakness was a critical mistake that turned around the fate of house Stark. It was something he did in the heat of the moment, not something he went: "yeah, it's wrong but let's do it anyways" on. In the book he was just young, in the series he now seems irrational and stupid.

Besides, why couldn't Jeyne just be Jeyne, sweet, shy and overwhelmed by suddenly becoming the king's love interest? I don't like it how cocky Talisa is. And Talisa is a stupid name, by the way. I also could've lived without knowing half of her life story.

What saved Robb in this episode for me was him talking about Ned and the fact Richard Madden sounded and looked hotter than ever. I could just eat him! I could eat Jon too, btw. Why are these guys so damn hot and have those damn sexy British accents? ;)

  40.  >>where Talisa explains the wonders of CPR.  <<

I thought CPR did exist in Westeros?  The super fundamental priests of the Drowned God use it to bring people back after they are actually drowned in baptism into the religion.  I always assumed they meant CPR was how they "brought them back", thus having the statement "he who is already dead can never die" make sense afterwards.

  41. I don't know, it is pretty much known that if you sign up for an HBO show where nudity is rampant, there is more than likely going to be a non-negotiable nudity clause. I'm sure out of all the women that auditioned and were willing to do the nudity verses one woman who wouldn't, one that was willing would have been chosen.

  42. Was ok episode next week dose look bad ass

    ReplyDelete
  43.  I didn't read the books but I found this episode less intense than the others.
I voted great because even a weak GOT ep. is way above others tv shows:-)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm curious about the Dragonsglass blades. Maybe a weapon against the others considering where the first men have buried them ?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm glad they showed that Bran and his baby bro were ok. I suspected they were alive and the wait for the confirmation was keeping me distracted for the others plots :-)

    Jaime and Brienne are fun.
I wonder if Catelyn really ordered Brienne to escort him back to his peers. Maybe Brienne has to keep Jaime hidden from and wait for Catelyn orders?
Sending Jaime back without the guarantee to see her daughters back is quite rash. She said herself he was a man without honor ...

    I guess we'll find out soon :-)

    ReplyDelete
  46. It does play...
Fire killed the wight... dragon fire created blades could have some added effectiveness against the wights.... or the White Walkers.

Plus dragons being creatures of magic, and now with their birth and with magic returning to the world after its long absence (around the time the last dragons died) can it be coincidence that the White Walkers now seem to be returning as well?

It's part of many people's "Ice" and "Fire" theories....
    - Dragonglass is found in large quantities on Dragonstone (a past volcanic island)...
    - Also a major export from Asshai (where Melisandre is from and where R'hllor (Lord of Light, God of Flame) is worshiped.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Love that idea that all is linked.
Hope we'll know more about Bran strange premonitory dream :-)

I think that fighting for a crown will soon seems quite futile, They should all worry about what is happening behind the wall.

I wondered: If the dragons need years to grow, we will not see them in their full adult size, or does the story keeps going that far?

    ReplyDelete
  48. That is one of the awesome things about A Song of Ice and Fire and now Game of Thrones (to a lesser degree), even the seemingly unrelated parts are linked to important parts of the story.

Many small things like why would Illyrio help Viserys and Daenerys?
Why are Illyrio and Varys conspiring and what is their goal?

Those 2 small bits from Season 1 come into play down the line and relate to the overall story.

As for dragons, the saga does go on for a while but not the time it would take the dragons to grow to full size. We do get to see them grow into their own and mature to the point of being quite bad ass. Even as "adolescents" though they are dangerous and can do serious damage.
