  3. This really sounds like a jumping the shark moment. I hope not but Jane letting the darkness swallow him? Not good!

  4.  Heller said we shouldn't believe everything we see, though...that gives me a modicum of hope.

  5. I'll just hang on to that thought, I guess.   Mr. Jane has always been more than skilled in the art of the con.  Here's hoping.

  6. It's mostly likely a plot from Jane to really turn things around on hunting the Red John situation, since Red John is correct in the manner of CBI and Jane have been lack in that ordeal, so I guess when Jane saw the title CBI, while he was drunk or buzzed, who knows, he might have thought it's better if he goes the other way, away from the CBI, and tries to tackle the Red John situation with this angle of the apprentice. So, we'll see how it'll turn out next week, can't wait.

  7. Who has seen the CTV promo says Lorelai works for Red John :/

    ReplyDelete
  8. Who cares about Lorelai!

Jane. A gun. In Lisbon's office.
I hope it's true that "nothing is like it seems."

  9. Looks interesting. What or who is Grace crying about? What if after all he does catch RJ? I'd be totally surprised, but then again, you never know what Jane is planning..

I believe that Jane making everyone believe he has changed was hoping to get invited by red john. Jane will then work towards his fake attitude and work his way to red john as a disciple then when he gets close bam hurt or kill red john.

  11. Looks very exciting. Though this is a promo...we can't really judge EITHER WAY. We especially shouldn't use completely mythical, false and overused terms such as 'jump the shark'.

  15.  I don't even know what "jump the shark" means- can somebody enlighten the dumb German, please???

    ReplyDelete
  16.  Where IS the CTV promo, by the way???

    ReplyDelete
  17. If I'm correct 'Jumping the Shark' means that a series is going down the drain. They first used the term in Happy Days...so every time when the producers of a TV series do something stupid, they call it 'Jumping the Shark'. Hope I've explained it correctly ;-) Not from the States also...you might say we're neighbours. I'm from the Netherlands!

    ReplyDelete
  18. LOL...I've just tried. You can actually Google it. Wiki has a whole page about 'Jumping the Shark'. It was like I said from Happy Days when Fonzie actually tried jumping over a shark.
Jumping the shark is an idiom created by Jon Hein that is used to describe the moment in the evolution of a television show when it begins a decline in quality that is beyond recovery. The phrase is also used to refer to a particular scene, episode or aspect of a show in which the writers use some type of "gimmick" in a desperate attempt to keep viewers' interest.

  19.  Thank you so much!!! I feel thoroughly enlightened now- and of course "The Mentalist" is NOT going down the drain :D!

  20. Think i will watch first before commenting.

  21. I do not know. I've read of people who have seen. For some time not published.

  22. I agree and one way to show it is to shoot Lisbon so everyone in the CBI can believe that too. Remember the promo photos where we can see Lisbon and Jane talking in a church. What if Jane tells Lisbon about his "plan" ("He wants me to be his disciple") and she agrees (ok, shoot me but don't kill me). I can imagine this scene as the cliffhanger for next season.

Jane became a member of the CBI because he hoped to kill/catch Red John. 9 Years after his familys death and RJ is still out there. Maybe he realises that he needs a complete new strategie without the CBI.

But I doubt he will catch Red John this season, it's more like at the end of the series.

  23. OMG! Should Robin Tunney start looking for a new job?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh Lord! I'm having bad feelings about that!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Who tries to cut off Jane's ring finger???? O.O

    ReplyDelete
  26. Agree. He is trying to lure RJ out in the open. Won't work of course :-)

What is heartbreaking is that, except for the giving up,  he isn't really faking. He is that desesperate, and that close to losing it. He has also quite a dark, cruel side.
It's only because of his need of revenge and his incredible will that he keeps going. It's the goofy, smilling Jane who is fake.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Do not agree with the "jumping the shark" comment.

    This promo is awesome.

"He wants me to be is disciple". Love it. Fans have called that one since the first season. Nice to have a confirmation.

Love the scene with Jane on the bike.

What's happening at 00:10? Are they trying to take his wedding ring?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I would love it, but I doubt it.  Whatever it is, it will be resolved quickly. The mentalist has great ratings, no reason to change a winning formula.
I bet Wainwright will be out CBI and Jane back in very soon. Maybe Wainwright is RJ mole in CBI.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Something is seriously wrong here! I'm too scared to watch! Gonna wait and hope Patrick HAS a plan!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Grace crying like that, I can think only of one thing: Rigsby has been shot.

    ReplyDelete
  31.  The CBI position that Wainwright occupies is definitely a revolving door on this show so I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see something happen to him.

    ReplyDelete
  32. same thought here! But it can't be real - he wouldn't hurt her...she has always been the one he trusts most...I refuse to believe the she is really hurt

    ReplyDelete
  33. The Mentalist is expected to go on until season 8 at least. The ratings that it gets are really good for it's 10pm thursday timeslot. Unfortunately, making their lead a disciple of a serial killer, however awesome and interesting it might sound, would not go well with the overall plan to turn the show into a syndication cash cow. That is why they resolved Jane's murder case in just one episode and that is why this will resolve whatever this is in the season 5 premiere itself. I hope the writers never took such drastic steps when they know they can't go anywhere with it.

    ReplyDelete
  34.  I think we are done with the matter of Red John moles. If it turns out he has more, I am going to kill myself x-( They need to try something new, not go back to old stuff

    ReplyDelete
  35. They could never bring a character as good as Virgil...

    ReplyDelete
  36. It's fairly predictable.

Patrick will go into a depression and regress to whom he was before.  That won't be fake.  However, when Red John approaches him (or whatever) in the finale any of this Jane as a disciple nonsense will all be part of a plan Patrick cooks up on the sly.  Hence the "watch every moment closely" ploy.  He'll even end up shooting and "killing" someone to prove himself but we'll seen in the premiere that it was all a ruse.

    ReplyDelete
  37. yes, and it seems like finale will be set a few weeks in the future according to one of the spoiler articles, so he would have had enough time to establish an open line of contact with Red John and convince him that he has changed or whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Loved Higthower. She was able to keep jane in check like no other CBI director

    ReplyDelete
  39.  I was under the impression there was still a mole in CBI but it isn't quite clear in my mind. Have they resolved that plot entirely?
If so, why is Hightower still hidding? My memory is failing me :-/

    ReplyDelete
  40. Second! I didn't like Hightower at first just because I missed Minelli but then as season 2 progressed she grew on me like no other recurrent character! (I love Brett Stiles, Mashburn and Erica Flynn too) I love Minelli but she is definitely the best boss CBI has ever had.

    ReplyDelete
  41. But it hasn't been said that Hightower is still hiding. Maybe she didn't come back to CBI, because as she was officially a criminal on the run, I don't know if the she was cleared of all charges after all the killing in season 3 finale. Your question is valid, they HAVEN'T resolved that plot. Unless the writers told something extra on their twitter feed.

  42. It's likely more few months :)

  43.  I assume some robbers in a desert town according to the promo

    ReplyDelete
  44. "What's happening at 00:10? Are they trying to take his wedding ring?"

I think so.. Knowing Jane, he would NEVER take off his ring or give his ring to robbers that easily. What do you do if someone won't give you the money/ring. You you have to cut the ringfinger.
I do believe he will keep his finger.. but the Ring? Jane without his Ring? The promo photos still shows him... we can only wait and see xD

    ReplyDelete
  45. Don't believe he will shoot her, this scene is obviously made up. he's looking up when he's shooting she is shorten than he is and if it was true i don't think they would show us this scene in a promo that would be a really big spoiler...i bet it's just another trick to catch red john. That whole metdown in 4x23 was just a trick he wanted to get fired.
Plus it is confirmed there will be season 5 can you imagine their relation ship after he shot her?they would loose a really houge piece of audience( inclouding me).

    ReplyDelete
  46. Agree on every point. The show would gain in having more charismatic guest or recurrent characters.

Janes need strongers opponents, otherwise  it's just too easy for him and it's no fun for us.

Hope Wainwright will be out quickly. If I had a boss like him, I'll totally mock him like Jane ... except I wouldn't do it in front of him of course :-D

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yep. Watched the promo photos closely, Jane still has his finger and the ring on it :-)

    Spotted those two : http://www.spoilertv.co.uk/images/the-mentalist/season-4/promotional-episode-photos/Episode%204.24%20-%20The%20Crimson%20Hat/11.jpg.php

Those are the guys running after Jane in the alley at 00:08. Randoms guys or RJ minions?

Wait and see ... It's going to be a long week ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  48. They never really said what Hightower is doing now that you've mentioned it. I would have thought they would have showed it. Yes. Grace's fiance was the second mole.

    ReplyDelete
  49. One of those Season Finales I am really looking forward too!!

    ReplyDelete
  50.  His behavior seems to me like a game of him too. Maybe to get a reaction of Red John?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Jane spiraling down is an insult to Red John. Here he was thinking that Jane was (almost)  his equal and Jane starts doing stupid things so RJ has no choice but to get in touch with him and be like wtf. This is Jane's new plan to catch him and I'm looking forward to some results!
