Parts of this really interest me and other parts leave me wondering why they went that route! I do not have high hopes for this honestly despite liking both Shawn Ryan and Andre Braugher quite a bit.
I like it ! The editing of the trailer is cheesy but I can tell there's quality, originality and ambition in that pilot.
After seeing a bunch of trailers saying that the shows are "from the producers of GI Joe", "from the writer of Gossip Girl" or "from the producers of Pretty Little Liars", it's good to have a show bragging about something actually worth bragging about : "from the creator of The Shield". Hell yeah ! It's one of the best show ever done, for those (lucky ones) who didn't know (when you're done with The Shield, watch Terriers and The Chicago Code).
I'm surprised that this network series clearly states that US officials have ordered one of their submarines to nuke Pakistan, they're going for the real thing and not made-up names like on 24 or The West Wing, surprising but I like it.
I like that Andre Braugher's character isn't a good guy. By that I mean that he can across as an asshole by taking over a station of innocent guys posted on the island and by launching a missile on Washington. He's not a total antihero yet, but anyway I didn't expect anything less from Shawn Ryan.
I hope that either they'll reshoot all the shots including the missiles or that they will be taken out. If you can't have something look good, don't include it, don't settle for a mediocre aspect because it's TV. Same for the submarine getting hit by a missile, there's a few sparkles, the camera is shaking... it looks cheap. It was by far the ABC pilot I was most looking forward to, and it still is. Huge potential, it feels like a show I have not seen before, and even if Ryan had to tweak his story to adapt to ABC's standards (the love story with the wife at home), I'm sure he'll manage to do just great. The Chicago Code was on a network too (FOX) and it was awesome, there's no reason why Last Resort can't be good as well.
Well said. Shawn Ryan's track record is flawless as far as I'm concerned and Andre Braugher is an incredible actor. The combination of those two can only lead to greatness. I expect very good things from this series as long as ABC allows the writers creative freedom and doesn't interfere too much.
My only concern with this show right now is the time slot. Thursday nights are extremely competitive and it's launching without a lead-in. I hope that ABC markets the hell out of it.
I read the script. It`s like an new Lost without any sci-fi elements, maybe a mix of Lost, The Unit and Jericho (since they want to establish themself). Had a few funny characters. Good plots and themes in the pilot. The show could work as both a mini-serie and a maybe two season-show, at least with a man like Shawn Ryan steering the boat.
Also a plus is the actors. Its a variation of actors, not just new fresh people, older good actors and those between. Like the main character a lot, and Andre Braugher is a perfect candiate for such a role. Also Autnum Reeser had decent role. But i liked the island-stuff more. One of the best ensemble cast since Lost, Game of Thrones and Sons of Anarchy of main characters i think.
Oh, dear, time for me to crash... After your first sentence, I didn't read your second sentence as "excitement", but "excrement" o.O Being Canadian, watching anything with a strong US armed forces storyline is uncomfortable... I think I'll give this one a pass, at least until hear a review a few episodes in that can change my mind.
You obviously do not understand what is a False Flag attack. That is what was happening. The boat was supposed to attack the country and then the other ships would attack them. starting a larger war.
They are not traitors! They are set up to commit a war atrocity. Then had Unauthenticated orders. Those cannot be followed. You do not understand what a false flag attack is.
That would make it a little better...but that wasn't clear from the trailer (at least not to me, but maybe I need to read more spy thrillers?). Still threatening nuclear war is kinda hard to get behind. I'm hoping they clarify this stuff in the pilot, I'm totally willing to change my mind.
Probably not. But then again I wouldn't turn around and threaten nuclear war if I was so concerned about the preservation of life. Like most high concept pilots there are some holes.
Look they got attacked by our own gov't when they did the right thing, So they used the only weapons the people in Washington understood. That gave them protection from further attack.
Every one in awhile i get in a crazy silly mood, yesterday happened to be one of them.Sorry if it offended you. I didn't look at the show in the same frame you did,i am not uncomfortable with that, real life scares me,living through 9/11 made me a little more then uncomfortable.Last Resort is make believe.
I understand that they were attacked after not following orders. But nuclear war seems like an overreaction for whistle-blowing. If you have to set up your own country then it seems like you have no recourse within the US government or population...you couldn't call CNN a couple of senators? Which kinda means, they've made the US the enemy, which seems like a dicey line to walk.
But I haven't seen more than a few minutes. So that's just my first reaction. It might not be taking itself so seriously and end up being campy fun, it might be a huge misstep in the search for a new story concept. I dunno know. But choosing the ruling portion of the US gov as enemy is a hard sell.
Not the ruling gov't a section of the ruling gov't. This war was to lead to a coup with them not doing the false flag attack and being sunk caused those plans to be stopped. The firing of the missile was a warning. Not to play games with the crew's safety. Perhaps they tried to get their message out but was not able to do so because of a total news blackout caused by the NSA. I suspect you do not know what the NSA is capable of doing.
I suspect that you watched something different than I did and that you think that spy thrillers are true. Plus, we know they weren't isolated they were calling their families and there were news reports. Coup? Where was that? But if you saw something different or have seen more than just this preview, it is very possible that your scenarios could play out. I'm just talking about what we can see in this preview. The White House is lying that's the ruling portion of the US gov--not a faction. And it is hard to make the president of the US a bad guy right from the beginning.
I do not know what your experiences in these types of matters. However, I do have much experiences in what I am talking about. So from Experiences I can categorically say these types of scenarios do happen and will happen. There are factions at work right now to cause a war in Iran. So this use of a ballistic submarine from this plot is possible.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
interesting concept but i have a feeling it will lack likable characters and it looks really cheap
ReplyDeleteI like that they have made it a real country (Pakistan) rather than some made up one that is cool, feels more real.
ReplyDeleteI love the fighting against the Government angle as well
Looking forward to this one a lot
This looks awesome. I'll check it out.
ReplyDeleteParts of this really interest me and other parts leave me wondering why they went that route!
ReplyDeleteI do not have high hopes for this honestly despite liking both Shawn Ryan and Andre Braugher quite a bit.
Andre Braugher is not f---ing around. I'll give this a try.
ReplyDeleteWrong network, and kind of cheap looking. I'll pass.
ReplyDeleteSO we're supposed to root for a bunch of traitors that disobeyed orders and abandoned their country? LOL.
ReplyDeleteI'll watch it, but unless there is more to the story I think I will be rooting for the US.
Now this looks amazing!
ReplyDeletevery interesting premise...
ReplyDeleteNot sure how I feel about it, I;m going to wait for some early reactions first.
ReplyDeleteNot for me. at all.
ReplyDeletethis looks more like a miniseries, however i like the trailer so far
ReplyDeleteI love Andre Braugher so I'll give this a try.

So the traitorous terrorists trying to kill Americans are the good guys? I don't think you thought that premise all the way through. Pass.
ReplyDeleteHoly Shit this looks Outstanding!
ReplyDeleteMy excitement is out of the stratosphere!
Yeah me too! I can't believe how many people are passing this up,it looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! This looks freaking great, with lots of action definitely checking this out!

I'll def. watch this.. looks really interesting.
ReplyDeleteLooks cool
ReplyDeleteCute. Almost dumb enough to be adorable. Almost
ReplyDeleteI'll just pass.
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing - definitely on the watch list.

I'm in.... looks great
ReplyDeleteI wasn't very interested in this before watching the trailer, but I definitely am now.
ReplyDeleteInnovative, but I don't think I could get into it.
ReplyDeleteOh, dear, time for me to crash... ReplyDeleteThat looks pretty awesome. I like the concept, hope they do it well.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool looking! It was a false flag attack! I am glad they survived it. They were trying to get an act of war.
ReplyDeleteNo not traitors set up to take the fall. Unauthenticated orders can not be followed!
ReplyDeleteYou obviously do not understand what is a False Flag attack. That is what was happening. The boat was supposed to attack the country and then the other ships would attack them. starting a larger war.

ReplyDeleteDidn't like the synopsis, but the trailer looks good.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why, but this um.... screams CBS.Which means I won't be watching.
ReplyDeleteNo lawyers, no doctors, no detectives? OMG what is happening!!
ReplyDeleteI like the look of this. Defintiely going to be watching.
ReplyDeleteI´ll give it a try. looks ok.
ReplyDeleteso many guest-cast members from #H50- what a party!
ReplyDeleteWTF did I just watch? It kinda looks good, but I didn't really get it. Still don't know if I'll check it out.
ReplyDeleteO.O Would you destroy an entire country if you were asked?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the insight. It definitely sounds like it could have potential, I'm willing to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteYou and laure3341 need to get glasses.

ReplyDeleteProbably not. But then again I wouldn't turn around and threaten nuclear war if I was so concerned about the preservation of life. Like most high concept pilots there are some holes.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's an under 3 minute trailer. Certainly more will be made clear in the pilot.
ReplyDeleteLook they got attacked by our own gov't when they did the right thing, So they used the only weapons the people in Washington understood. That gave them protection from further attack.

13 or how many episodes out of it? Hum, I'll give it a try. Would it be a movie, though, and I'd definetely watch it!
ReplyDeleteI like this. More contemporary than SeaQuest. A little more serious than Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Feels like a present day 20,000 Leagues.
ReplyDeleteNot the ruling gov't a section of the ruling gov't. This war was to lead to a coup with them not doing the false flag attack and being sunk caused those plans to be stopped.
