– Mance Rayder: We’ve heard about him all season. A former member of the Night’s Watch who became the “King Beyond the Wall,” the leader of the Wildlings.
– Daario Naharis: A confident and seductive warrior.
– Jojen Reed; Meera Reed: A teenage brother and sister duo with special insights.
– Edmure Tully: A brash young member of the Tully family.
– Ser Brynden Tully (The Blackfish): Catelyn Stark’s uncle.
– Lady Selyse Florent: Stannis Baratheon’s wife.
– Shireen: Stannis’ daughter.
– Olenna Redwyne (The Queen of Thorns): Margaery Tyrell’s sharp-witted grandmother.
– Beric Dondarrion: A skilled knight who is the leader of the outlaw group Brotherhood Without Banners.
– Thoros of Myr: A red priest who follows the same religion as Melisandre.
– Tormund Giantsbane: A Wildling raider.
Now, if a character is not listed here, does that mean they are not in season three? Apparently not. Because Benioff then added: “And a few others…holy hell that’s a lot of new faces.”

Wow. Daario already!?
ReplyDeleteThat's incredible and shows they're thinking of adding some Book 5 material in the third season.
So we are getting the Reeds! So happy about this and they haven't forgetton about Shireen either wonder if we will get the creep Patchface as well.
ReplyDeleteI thought Beric Dondarrion was already cast in Season 1, he had a brief appearance in Episode 6
ReplyDeleteFinally, the Reed comments can stop!!
ReplyDeleteWas expecting all of these, but it's nice to have confirmation.
I don't think it will be book 5 material, Daario was in aSoS.
ReplyDelete*Book Spoilers below*
At the gates of Yunkai I think, can't remember the exact details but I remember he turned on the Stormcrows and brought them over to Dany's side.
Yay, we're gonna have the Reeds!!! So happy about this. Cannot wait for them, they've made us wait too long! And Lady Olenna, I love her! Good to know there will be Shireen and Selyse too, after all the Lord of Light was her god much more than Stannis's. And the Tully clan! And Beric Dondarrion, And Thoros of Myr. Seriously, I'm very excited to see almost all of these characters. Season 3 will be amazing. Can't believe it's almost a year away. Waiting will be painful.
ReplyDeleteBut didn't they say earlier this season that Stannis had no children? I remember being annoyed at the time with the change from the books. Maybe I just misheard.
ReplyDeleteWow, some of these really surprise me! I was kind of fearing that the Queen of Thorns wouldn't be in the show. Now we can start campaigning for Maggie Smith to take the role :-).
ReplyDeleteAnd the Reeds! But how will they introduce them? Are they just conveniently wandering in the wild?
Pretty sure, he said he had no heir, as in no sons....
ReplyDeleteI wonder how they will fit the Reeds in. I´m glad they are and I´m sure they will find the right way to do so.
ReplyDeleteI wonder who will play Mance and Tormund. I´m a big fan of everything north of the wall, and this makes me really excited for next season.
So no Ramsey yet? At least not in Season 3?
ReplyDeleteMaybe in the finale? How else are they going to finish Theon's story.
ReplyDeleteThe Reeds! Couldn't be happier!
ReplyDeleteAh ok, fair enough.
ReplyDeleteWow a large part of the fandom just exhaled! Then cheered!
ReplyDeleteThe Blackfish lives!
As do the Reeds, but frankly I never liked them so I was hoping they may not make it. XD
I'm a bit surprised patchface is not on the list if Shireen is though.......
I was wondering about the jingling fool too.
ReplyDeleteI was honestly not expected Blackfish or the Queen of Thorns.
ReplyDeleteI thought Brynden would be melded into Edmure Tully and I thought with a more savvy Margery Tyrell we may not get the QoT.
The one name that is conspicuous in its absence is Strong Belwas. I was wondering if we would get him or not. He plays a fairly decent role, but someone else could easily fill in for him.
I stand corrected, you're right about that. Still, it'll be interesting to see who they cast as Daario.
ReplyDeleteI thought for sure that Tonks would end up being an amalgamation of Osha and the Reeds.
ReplyDeleteThe Reeds, as much as I'm not incredibly fond of them, are pretty huge to Bran's arc, so I'm happy that they'll be included.
ReplyDeleteBest thing about the Reeds is that they can tell Bran (And the viewer) about the Knight of the Laughing tree.
ReplyDeleteRon Perlman in Conan as Corin

Actually you're right, I wasn't really expecting the QOT. The rest though I was, Blackfish and Edmure are too different to mesh together.
ReplyDeleteBelwas would be a big loss for meif he's cut,I love that guy. Another I'm fully expecting is the Red Viper.
I am holding out that the Reeds will eventually tell the tale their father told them. Howland Reed being the only witness at the Tower of Joy could be integral to someone's parentage. The answer to that question is foremost in many fans minds when it comes to the saga!
ReplyDeleteThe Red Viper will be there at some point I have no doubt. I just assumed he would be in Season 3, but maybe they will push him back, or this is just the first casting list and incomplete.
ReplyDeleteNo. Kristofer Hivju is Tormund. :D
ReplyDeletea thing called re-casting. ;)
ReplyDeleteI think so, but that would be more of an extra or a actor they wont need that much. Maybe even start with later in the season.
ReplyDeleteI would hate to lose his red hair by dying it white! XD
ReplyDeleteMaybe he can be a Tully?
My dream casting for the above list:
ReplyDelete– Mance Rayder: Mads Mikkelsen– Daario Naharis: Goran Visnjic– Jojen Reed; Asa Butterfield-- Meera Reed: Anna Poppewell (may be too old now, but she can play younger)– Edmure Tully: Kristofer Hivju – Ser Brynden Tully (The Blackfish): Gerard Butler/ Tony Curran/ Dougray Scott– Olenna Redwyne (The Queen of Thorns): Dame Maggie Smith– Beric Dondarrion: David Wenhem/ Tony Curran– Thoros of Myr: David Morrissey– Tormund Giantsbane: Ron Perlman/ Ray Stevenson
I can't quite see either Shireen or Selyse honestly... I need more thought on those two.
Wow, I really love your choices. Definitely would love to see Wenham in GoT, would be so cool to have Ned Stark's alter ego's little brother join the gang ;)
ReplyDeleteMaggie Smith could make a great Olenna, I think. I love the actress.
Also, if the 30-year-old Dormer can play a 16-year-old, then the 23 year old Popplewell might pull off a teen as well.
My dream has also been to see James McAvoy in GoT, but I still haven't found a character suitable for him :P
I need
ReplyDeleteJojen Reed and Meera Reed now!!!!
Damian Lewis for Brynden Tully!
ReplyDeleteMost of it actually gone now. He could easily use a wig/fake beard and cosmetic stuff, most of the actors use wigs on the show. The wigs Lena Heady and Emila Clarke cost like 10 000$ each for example.
ReplyDeleteThis is how he looks now, he had to shave his beard for the next Will Smith-film;

Hivju for prez! Hivju for #GameofThrones!
ReplyDeleteDamian Lewis and Ewan McGregor were my two "Too big to get the role" wishes for Blackfish! XD
ReplyDeleteIf I recall his leaked casting video had Edmure lines didn't it? Not that they always get the role they first audition for of course.....
ReplyDeleteI dont know about that. Never found a video when i was writing about it last month. But i would love to see Hivju in a role on GoT. I want to see a norwegian in an good american tv-show i love. Besides Irri (one of Dany`s servants), played by a girl that lived here once.
ReplyDeleteHivju and his agent got an good grip on reality when it comes to have to make at least some success outside Norway. Many actors in norway only wants to do roles in movies almost, they are like small children that only want that big expensive pop-sickle in the store. I would rather say that norwegian actors need to look more for roles in quality-tv, or at least decent tv instead of just movies. Hivju has been auditioned for True Blood also. And most of the swedish people making sucsess in the states is because of tv, or popular outbreaking movies (witch Scandinavia kinda never has, like the movie-series based on those books that gave us The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo). Examples;Aleksander Skarsgaard (a bunch of supporting roles in more known movies after True Blood/Generation Kill).Friend of Aleksander, Joel Kinnaman. First the hit-movie Snabba Cash in sweden, then The Killing, Now also RoboCop).
Nooami Rapace, first the original movies the Millenium-trilogy original planned for tv at first at some point. Then she ended up with both the second Sherlock Holms-movie with Downey Jr. and then Promethus witch im very much looking forward to. I remember seeing Nikolaj Coster-Waldau back in 2008 on New Amsterdam, and then before that on some danish show back in late 90`s or into 00`s. That is probably one of the most success`s i have been glad for seeing with Nikloaj getting a role in GoT and then the coming movie Oblivion together with Tom Cruise. I would like to see that happen for Hivju. Not the other norwegian actors i mostly hate their guts of for being in every fu movie like Depp is in every Burton-movie.
Also Nikolaj is a nice guy when i met him IRL, so that also makes me like him even more. So is Hivju when i also talked to him around The Thing, when i did not know who he was. I rarely meet celerity's, i think most of them are idiots for the most part, especially some movie directors here in Norway when i was a set-extra.
It used to be much like that here, actors wanted to do movies and looked at TV actors as a lesser breed. I think HBO (and later AMC and other cable networks) had a big part in changing the rationale that serious drama can take place on TV too.
ReplyDeleteMaybe in time something similar will take place in Norway too....
And the companion of Strong Belwas...although they won't need to cast him again. :)
ReplyDeleteThey really have so much to cover in Season 3 that I think it would be a wise decision to push the Dornish and Ironborns into Season 4.
Tonks will have another role in the future than with Bran if they follow the books so I'm not that surprised that we will see the Reeds.
ReplyDeleteNice suggestion for the Queen of Thorns. Or maybe Helen Mirren, although her fee might be too much for the series.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if D&D know more from GRRM about Shireen's role in future books. Patchface, as funny as he might be (wait...could he be JH? ;).
ReplyDeleteDamian Lewis portrayed a great knight in "Your Highness". :D
ReplyDeleteThat was such an odd role for him too!
ReplyDeleteI did not make it through the full movie honestly, but from the part I saw it was so different from everything else I have seen Lewis do!
Saw him first on Homeland and whilst watching Your Highness I was like: "Hmmm...I know this guy from somewhere, but where??!" Took me like 10 minutes to put it together. lol Big departure from him compared to his dramatic role as Brody.
ReplyDeleteI always wonder abut things like this too. Is this or that role included or highlighted more because D&D know something from GRRM?
ReplyDeleteIt plays on my overly curious (nosy) mind! XD
Wait what? The Reeds are kids?
ReplyDeleteI always was under the impression they were late teens or in their 20's! XD (I'm only on Storm of Swords)
In the books Meera is 16 and Jojen is 13.
ReplyDeleteOk well your choice for Meera is definitely not too old.
ReplyDeleteBeric has already apeared in season one, when Eddard Stark ordered him to lead 100 men against Gregor Clegane. I suppose they will change the actor playing him or?
ReplyDeleteNice choices, though I'd change:
ReplyDeleteMance Rayder - James Purefoy
Meera Reed - Sarah Bolger
Euron Greyjoy - Mads Mikkelsen (Probably not until next year though/maybe 2 years)
Alexia Osborne - Shireen Baratheon
Yes, that would be a dream come true. sadly it is not likely to happend. ;.)
ReplyDeleteJames MsAvoy would seem like an Iron born. It would be great to see him on GoT.
ReplyDeleteNice choices, Darque. Don´t know all of them, but the ones I do would fit in nicely. Sadly I think most of the parts are too small for us to get these great (expensive) actors.
ReplyDeleteI guess he was just a stand in. Like Jaqen,Rorge and Biter were at the end of Season 1.
ReplyDeleteI've wanted Purefoy as Mance for years now... some reason Mads Mikkelsen as pulled ahead now, not sure why. XD
ReplyDeleteI still want Purefoy in Thrones as someone... anyone! I can see him as Mance, Euron, Thoros, Blackfish, and maybe even Daaario! Just get him on the show Nina! XD
Sarah Bolger is a nice choice for Meera too... 1b for me if Popplewell is 1a.
I may start a casting speculation thread alter..... I have pictures that resemble various characters in mood or look for about 30 or so actors mentioned for various roles. I was bored and dealing with insomnia last night. XD
I agree.... and to think I left off Dame James McAvoy as Edmure Tully,Judi Dench as Queen of Thorns and Ciaran Hinds as Thoros of Myr. XD
ReplyDeleteRay Stephenson for Victarion. I know he's not mentioned, but it just makes sense.
ReplyDeleteHe's my pick too!
ReplyDeleteAnd if James Purefoy's new series fails this year, Purefoy can play Euron Greyjoy next season and we can have Titus Pullo and Marc Athony together again! XD
That would be fantastic casting, I agree!
ReplyDeleteI love having Nikolaj CW on GoT, he is just amazing and nobody would make a better Jaime. It would be so good to see another danish actor on the show. Mads Mikkelsen would be a nice addition. I love his acting and he would be a terrific Mance.
ReplyDeleteI like Purefoy too, and would like to see him on GoT, but Mads Mikkelsen would get my vote.
Funny, I am happy that the Reeds made it, but were hoping that Shireen and Patchface didn´t. Never really cared for their part in the books.
ReplyDeleteHonestly I could do without Shireen and Patch face EASILY.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I like Patchface is his prophecy-like ramblings and I'm not sure the show is highlighting to prophecies in the series very much. At least not so far....
