Well.. at least he is still a presence on set.. just not the main day to day guy.. i hope they find someone who likes the show & understands what makes it so loveable.. the timing & gags and so forth..
i got faith in the Cul de Sac crew.. Go Git'em Cougar!
Am a bit apprehensive about this as Lawrence's style of comedy is all over this and Scrubs, but good to see that he will still be involved in the created direction of the show. I wonder how Crista Miller (Ellie) feels about this as he is her husband...
Bill Lawrence stepping down from Cougar Town, Dan Harmon possibly stepping down from Community (I hope he won't, he's essential)... those shows definitely have similitudes and a special relationship.
I'm surprised though. I would have imagined that Lawrence would have stepped down if his FOX pilot had been picked up, but it wasn't.
By the way, Dan Harmon is creating a new Adult Swim animated series : http://www.vulture.com/2012/05/adult-swim-announces-animated-dan-harmon-pilot.html . I hope that's not the reason why he's considering leaving Community. With longtime exec producers Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan gone (they will be the showrunners of FOX's Ben & Kate : http://tvline.com/2012/05/15/glee-season-4-britney-spears-neil-goldman-community-fox/), Harmon should reconsider. It's his baby, he seems very attached to the show, he should stay for what it probably going to be the final season (hopefully a long, long final season).
By the way, b3rt4, did you have to give $20 to Lawrence now that Cougar Town has been renewed ? I hope your wallet that you specifically said that ABC would cancel the show (which it did) and not just that Cougar Town wouldn't get renewed for season 4 (which it was).
Oh no! Why?? First Dan Harmon, now Bill Lawrence...They are so creative, both have a pretty unique and distinctive style! It seems that my 2 favorite comedies are about to change and I don't think it is for the best quality. I was so relieved that these two shows finally get renewed and now I'm so worried again. :-(
I'm not all that worried. Lawrence remains a producer, his wife remains a lead, and this show always struck me as a very collaborative one between the actors and the writers.
Bill Lawrence clarified things a bit on Twitter, he promised it wouldn't be like Scrubs Med School, thank goodness. He's still involved, and so is Bigel, they just want someone else to oversee it to free them up a bit, sounds like. And with Christa Miller still on it, he'll says he'll definitely stay involved.
After reasing BL's comments ( http://tvline.com/2012/05/16/cougar-town-new-showrunner-lawrence-biegel/ ) I feel much better. They'll still be involved and will be hand picking the new showrunner so I'm much more calm about it.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Whoa! Not sure if I like this.
ReplyDeleteAww that makes me sad, I hope the quality doesn't suffer it has been so good this year
ReplyDeleteWe knew that was going to happen right? :) I'm sure it'll be fine. They've been preparing for it. Just glad it's coming back next year. Whew!

ReplyDeleteDan Harmon leaving Community on the other hand...

ReplyDeleteI think he realized he has done everything he could with this show and wants to move on to other stuff.

If it turns out that Dan Harmon and Bill Lawrence are swapping shows, I think I would be happy with that haha
ReplyDeleteWhat!? No :( Oh man, not a good day.
ReplyDeleteWow.. I can honestly say I didn't see that one coming. I wonder what that'll do to the direction of the show?
