The 2012 SpoilerTV Favourite TV Series Competition - Get Your Nominations In Now For The Main Competition

20 May 2012

Hey guys,

It has reached that point of the year where the 2011-12 television season is winding to a close and the fans of STV get to join in our major summer competition where we aim to find what are the favourite series of the past and the present.

For anyone new to the competition, the rules at this stage are simple. We are looking for 64 TV series, 32 current and 32 finished which will enter a knockout competition where you, the fans, will vote for your favourites, debate, argue and join together to find the STV favourite TV series of 2012.

Today all you need to do is enter your two favourite current TV series and your two favourite finished TV series into the Google Document below. The 32 most popular finished and current TV series make the competition continue, all other shows exit. You need to spread the word as much as you can to get fans of  your favourites to nominate. Otherwise, it could be over before it really begins.

Here's the kicker. A Current TV Series is one which ran in the 2011-12 TV season. Therefore any show with any new episode from September 2011 onwards is classed as current. Anything that ended before September 2011 is a finished show. Therefore Terra Nova would get a current nomination, whilst Smallville would now be a finished show. This is important, as any show wrongly nominated will lose that nomination.

Once the votes are counted, the competition takes a whole new angle, as you predict the winners of each knockout round and stand the chance to win a fantastic prize. But that is for another day...

Supernatural has won twice in a row, but was pushed all the way to the line by Fringe in last years final, and with Supernatural entering its 8th season in the fall and other hot newer shows such as Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and Person of Interest building large fan bases on STV it is all to play for.

So, good luck to everyone. Regardless of the winners and losers of the past two years I've had a lot of fun discussing TV series and being part of the STV community.

Let the nomination stage, BEGIN!

Don't forget to tweet out the word to people so they can also get in their nominations.

The nomination stage ends on Sunday 20th of May, so you have just over a week to enter.

Finally I'd like to say many apologies for my absence from the website for the past few months, but it has been a very busy and changing time and I haven't had a second to put my mind into much. Adam's TV Teasers will return in the fall, so look out for that. You can always find me on the STV Podcast, which if you haven't checked out yet you really should.

Let us know who you voted for in the comments below!

For now, have a great weekend!

ADH

  1. I love SO many shows!
But I kinda fell obligated to nominate SPN and Fringe. As always;)

Though, I'm pretty sure they're gonna be in, so maybe Merlin and...? There's just too many of them!

  2. I voted for Game of Thrones, House MD, 24 and Studio 60.

I probably would have put LOST in but I'm taking a risk that it'll get through without my vote.

Fringe has annoyed me this season, so it hasn't gotten my vote and I have still to give shows like PofI and Awake more time to fully think it justifies a place in my top four.

I didn't think on the cancel/finished series I could put ANY cancelled/finished show, I thought it was from last tv season (2010-2011) only.. That's why I went first with No Ordinary Family and V just to put something else, but seeing the comments..

DEFINITELY ---> Flash Forward + Heroes *sniffs*

Next year it'll be tough adding Awake and Alcatraz among the cancelled ones :(

i always have nominated supernatural and vampire diaries in the past so it was strange for me nominating supernatural and fringe but i love fringe, its amazing and i wish i'd seen it last year so i could have nominated it then as well.
voted LOST which i will always love and couldn't really think of another ended show so i went with heroes because in its prime it was incredible

    ReplyDelete
  33. Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad (second favourite was a very tough choice)
    Lost and X-Files.

  48. Never heard about The Prisoner. We  get a lot of british shows in Denmark, but that is one that I don´t know.

I know just what you mean about Justified. I love how ALL the characters are interesting. Even the small parts are well chosen and fits in perfectly. The dialogs are brilliant, it is one of those shows where I turn the volume up, because I want to hear every single word that comes out their mouths.

Twin Peaks was my favorite show for years, untill Lost came along. Still love all those characters. For a while I hoped for a remake....but let´s be honest, it just wouldn´t work.

    Finished Show:1. Kyle XY2. Friends

  52. My favorite series is Supernatural but number 2 is tough.  White Collar, Leverage, Fringe, Burn Notice, Castle.....so many to choose from.  This year I've also watched more canceled shows than I ever have.  Currently Monk is making me laugh and I'm tempted to nominate it.  However, I loved Buffy, X-Files, Angel, Veronica Mars, Cold Case, Numb3rs, and much more.  I think the nominating stage is the hardest part of the contest.

    ReplyDelete
  53. 1. Castle
    2. OUaT
    3. Pushing Daisies (I was surprised by my choice, but I simply couldn't choose differently. Perhaps I am just frustrated that it was cancelled too soon, but I remember it as being different, sweet, quirky, very colourful and with very good dialogues).
    4. Friends (even though I love Seinfeld, Firefly and Monty Python, Friends still makes me laugh out loud).

  54. Kayleigh Ansell13 May 2012 at 05:21

    Current: Glee and True Blood.
Finished: Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed

  55. I can't remember all the shows.  I'm going to miss one and want to go back and change my pick.   In both cases the list is way longer than two.

    Current series:
Fringe and Revenge because right now they're the shows I have to watch ASAPFinished series: Dark Angel, and Dollhouse because they're on the list of shows I go back and re-watch frequent.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Person of Interest!  How could that slip my mind?  I LOVED Medium...but was so angry about the series finale that I'm not sure I would have picked it if I'd remembered.

    ReplyDelete
  57.  Great series! :-) I could have chosen the same. The second favorite is always a difficult choice for me.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I can only strongly encourage you to give "the prisoner" a try. It's an unique and awesome show. (the original, not the remake)

    From IMBD:
"The Prisoner" is a unique piece of television. It addresses issues such
as personal identity and freedom, democracy, education, scientific
progress, art and technology, while still remaining an entertaining
drama series. Over seventeen episodes we witness a war of attrition
between the faceless forces behind 'The Village' (a Kafkaesque community
somewhere between Butlins and Alcatraz) and its most strong willed
inmate, No. 6. who struggles ceaselessly to assert his individuality
while plotting to escape from his captors.

    ReplyDelete
  59. sounds interesting. Maybe I will get a chance to give it a try over the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Current:
    Supernatural and Fringe
    Finished:
    Lost and The X-Files

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'm just going to pick the winners of the 'current' one right now: Once Upon a Time, Grey's Anatomy, Supernatural

    ReplyDelete
  62. Tough. But I went with the 2 that I look forward to most every week. Fringe and The Vampire Diaries. Though I was tempted to toss in Community. I don't think it matters though. All these will indefinitely make the top 32.

The other was tough too. Well, not the first slot. That goes to Lost. But for the second I went with Roswell, for sentimental purposes. I caught it's pilot the night it premiered and was glued to the show. It's the show that gave me the push to becoming an unapologetic tv junkie.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Current: Fringe, Doctor Who
    Finished: Pushing Daisies, Dollhouse

    ReplyDelete
  64. Castle, NCIS, Chuck, SG1

    ReplyDelete
  65. This was easy for me, Supernatural & TVD, then Veronica Mars & Buffy

    ReplyDelete
  66.  Dang, I should have put Firefly instead of Buffy, I loved FF.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Current: Fringe, Once Upon a Time (#3 would be Person of Interest).
Finished: Pushing Daisies, Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I had a hard time with my 2nd choice of Finished series. So many to choose from! If I could do several, I'd go with Star Trek: The Next Generation, X-Files, Buffy, Golden Girls, Stargate SG-1. Then there's the old stuff that I can't clearly remember as well, but remember loving as a kid, like MacGyver. There's more, but I can't recall them all.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I loved Pushing Daisies! It really was cancelled too soon. And barely time for a proper resolution! At least the aunts see Chuck alive again. I loved it for the same reasons you did. It was just a gorgeous show to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I liked Monk a lot! Although, I think I preferred Sharona. Still, Natalie(?) grew on me...at least in the episodes I saw. Monk is one show I never saw all the episodes to, but really want to someday.

    ReplyDelete
  70. If there was a 3rd slot, I would've put Person of Interest in. And I really liked Kyle XY, except the last season, which I decided to stop watching.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Current: I chose the same two! And in that order! ;) Although, upon thinking about it. I think I love Once more.
GOT - I only saw 1 episode, when we had HBO free for the weekend. Seems like really great quality production though. Right up there, or surpassing, Fringe's production.
    Lost - Never saw it.
X-Files - Ooooo! X-Files used to be appointment TV for me. I had a hard time narrowing down my 2nd choice for finished shows.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I was glad about the aunts seeing Chuck too, but I sometimes still catch myself thinking how the hell they would solve the Chuck-Ned situation. It was so cute and I am still curious.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Yes! The big dilemma was the Chuck-Ned relationship. I am definitely still curious too. I'm hoping Netflix chooses Pushing Daisies to revive at one point. So long as the quality is still good though.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Only one favorite show current: FRINGE
Only one favorite show done: Stargate SG1

    ReplyDelete
  75. Drats, wish I had read other comments before voting. I had forgotten several shows I would have thought about voting for. Voted for SPN and Grimm, and West Wing and Friends, lame, I know, but really did love those two show. Was reminded of better.......

    ReplyDelete
  76. I did not vote for Supernatural, even though I still love it (maybe just a little less than before), because I'm pretty sure loads of people nominate it anyways. Of course I'll be faithfull to it during the voting and vote for it like crazy until it clashes with Game of Thrones. Then I will have a problem.

So yeah, I voted Game of Thrones, because when it airs, it's my obsession (even though I complain A LOT). Also voted American Horror Story, cause well... it was kinda fun to watch, even though it got a bit cheesy near the season finale. But some great acting there for sure.

For finished shows, I nominated Dark Angel and Gilmore Girls, though judging by the comments, none of them is probably gonna make it into the contest.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I voted The Walking Dead and Smallville

    ReplyDelete
  78. Fringe and Person Of Interest for current shows. Stargate Atlantis and Monk for finished shows

    ReplyDelete
  79. Supernatural Fringe Terra Nova Battlestar Galactica

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'm liking Natalie better right now because she is less abrasive but I've not seen many episodes with her yet s that might change.  One of my middle school students recommended Monk to me so I started watching it in its final season.  I'm just now going through all the episodes.  In season 3 right now.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I'm a huge Supernatural fan but I don't think it will win the contest this year.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I also contemplated nominating Roswell.  I loved the first 2 seasons.  Not so much the third.

    ReplyDelete
  83. It's not the best season but it had its highs too. Just glad we got what we did and it was able to craft an ending.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Castle, Scandal, Friends, and Charmed

    ReplyDelete
  85. my favs are H50 and POI!!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Current TV Shows: Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries, even though the latter has irked me this season.

Finished TV Series: Charmed and Dark Angel

    ReplyDelete
  87. current: Sherlock (bbc) and Person of Interest
finished: Slings and Arrows and Firefly

    ReplyDelete
  88. Which one?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Wrong. Chuck aired his final episode AFTER September 2011!! He need to be in first or second nomination!

    ReplyDelete
  90. X-files. Last year it was only one place beneath it. I won't take the chance this year :)

    ReplyDelete
  91.  When you can watch GOT,wow its at times brutal, and at times a lot of sex,but there is also some humor in it.Its rich in story, the locations beautiful, did i mention lots of sex? Everything about it is big,i haven't read the books yet,but i can't wait to start once again! Lost is another show that is a must see,i loved it,and i'm getting close to having another re-watch. I was going to watch this summer, but instead its Fringe this way i wont go through total withdrawal. And X-files,love that show, love the cast can never get tired of watching!

    ReplyDelete
  92.  I forgot about SG-1 and i don't know how i watch it every day!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Thanks for the run-down!
GOT - The brutality, sex, & nudity, reported to run rampant in this show, is a large part of why I haven't tried to watch the show yet (beyond the free HBO weekend I had). The visual landscape, setting, & cinematic production is a large part of why I was curious about it. I guess once the show's over, I'll try to watch the whole series in a marathon. I would love to read the books once I have more time.
Lost - I might have to check this show out someday since you guys all have such accolades about how great it is. If my fellow Fringe & Once Upon a Time fans love Lost so much, it might be worth a watch.
X-Files - Agreed. Great show, great cast.

    ReplyDelete
  94. They are on my hulu cue. Check out my summer add on my car and I'm finishing the last observiews for this season, should be up by tomorrow. You still know how to find them?

    ReplyDelete
  95.  Nope, can't remember where i wrote it down? LOL! I think i would lose my head if it wasn't attached.  ;)  Could you please post it for me again, thanks!

      Wait,its on FringeTelevision?

    ReplyDelete
  96. yep, leave me a comment so I can find you somewhere else.

    ReplyDelete
  97.  Sorry i didn't get back to you last night. Sure if you want to do Face Book that's fine,If you want somewhere else that's ok too,i don't post anywhere else so just let me know and we'll set it up.

    ReplyDelete
  98. When you read the Observiews, on the site you can find my profile. Send me a message.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Vampire Diaries and Game of Thrones, West Wing and Numb3rs.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I voted "awesome" for almost every Justified episode this season.
Full-fledged characters, awesome actors, wicked dialogues. I particulary love how the season arc is put in place piece by piece and culminate in an awesome finale where everything just clicks perfectly like an well- oiled mechanism.

I'm confident that GOT current season will be as awesome as the previous one.

BTW, Lost and Twin peaks could have been my old fav. too ...  ;-)

My absolute favorite is "the prisoner" the old sixties british show with the big white ball bouncing in the streets of the prison-village.
I didn't chose it because most of the people here are probably too young to even know it.

    "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"
