"No one is safe" Halo? Tell me something I don't know since S1
That is the problem with Elena and the decision: it's not about who to be with, but who to let go. I already commented, that she lost so much and that the one thing she likes on vampires is that they don't die and leave so easily as humans. And she has a hard time to choose, because she loves them both. And I think, she knows that the decision could bring the brothers apart. It could destroy the progress they made since S1, after she, of all people, tried so hard to bring the brothers closer together.
What does she mean by "until Klaus is dead"? I still believe, that he started the bloodline of the MF vampires. Kill him, everyone dies. Unless it wasn't him. I just doubt, we have that luck.
I know, she is in just for a few eps till now, so she is still a mystery, they are still experimenting with her. Give her a chance. We still know nothing about her. Give them (the team) the chance and the time to develop the character. Don't worry. If it won't work, they'll kill her. She could be interesting and important.
Meredith is second most horribly bland thing in this show after Elena. The fact that writers are pushing her into everything so much is hilarious.
I hoped she would just quietly get dead this season, but apparently they need femalaric for Damon to cry about his Elena troubles to and hook up with for no apparent reason.
Honey, no one is forcing you to watch it, if you hate it so much.
I'm not a big fan of Meredith either. For now. But give the writers a chance to form and develop her character. You'll never know how the character will evolve. If it won't work, they'll kill her.
In S1 I hated (maybe that is to hart. I didn't like) Caroline. She was a selfish little princess, not caring for anyone or anything but herself. Mostly. But, they developed Caroline, made her emotional involved, stronger and more confident, and voilĂ , now I like her more than Bonnie (I liked Bonnie S1).
Characters change.
But as I said, no one is forcing you to watch. Take your Tuesdays off and play bingo or monopoly.
You can also try to create your own show. I wonder how long it would run, if there are no relationships between the characters. Since that is of no interest to you.
Writers have been failing on developing characters left and right since the start of S2. Let' see. Rose? Trevor? Werewolves? jonah family? most of originals? Klaus?
They even lost sight of the characters of existing characters. Only caroline has had a sensible character growth from the very start of the show till now.
I loved Caroline's character since first second. She had natural build up and very logical start of her character - an insecure nice girl who never gets anything in her life and is full of complexes and issues. And in every scene she developed and grew. Through Season One we saw her overcome her issues and grow into a strong woman and that theme has continued through S2.
It was a logical journey.
Meredith lacks any sort of journey and when compared the first 4 episodes of Caroline to first 4 of Meredith, one can clearly see the bad writing in Meredith's character.
not to mention that Meredith is the most sexist character since Sage.
it would be fine if she was a mystery, buts she is not and she is really very uninteresting and frankly a little annoying from what i have seen so far.
Not going to lie, I've missed Katherine. She was fun. Elena's just driving me crazy, which is sad since she's the main character and I really should sympathize for her since she keeps losing everyone.
I don't mind Meredith. She has a lot of things going for her.
- She's human. Too many new characters seem to be supernatural. It's a bit much. - She has a rare, common sense approach to vampires. With Alaric gone, John Gilbert dead, and Sheriff Forbes usually M.I.A., she's the only level-headed adult human character left. - She has good dialogue and an entertaining rapport with Damon. - It's handy to have a doctor around with all the injuries, deaths, and near-deaths.
Be careful what you're saying. We just assume that Meredith is human. Matts mother seems human too. And it turns out, she is a succubus. And Tylers father and his brothers were werewolves. And in the books Meredith is something between human and vampire. In the show she is a Fell. And in the books Honoria Fell was a witch. So …Everything is open.
True. We have too many vampires in the town and barely normal humans. That's what I'm thinking of for 2 seasons. The only persons in Elenas live are vampires, witches and werewolves. Except for Jeremy and Ric (who is a vampire now). MF reminds me so much on Sunnydale. What we're missing is the hell mouth.
She (Meredith) has a way dealing with Damon. In one of the spoilers they said something about her being Damons new drink buddy. What about Elena? We know she can drink as much as she likes and she is not getting dunk. She is the only one that could keep up with a vampire, if it comes to alcohol.
The major theme and some of the names are the one thing connecting the show to the books. Elena looks different, she has a teen brother instead of baby sister, Bonnie is a witch instead of medium (and she is black), Ty and Caroline are not evil idiots, we have an entire family of originals, Elena was adopted, Meredith just shown up and is not a friend of Elena, … Just some of the differences. And we could go on like this for ever.
And I agree, that we have too many supernatural characters on the show and that it would be nice to have some normal humans. I'm just saying, that the books offer many opportunities for Meredith (Fell). She could be just a normal human and doctor, or something else. Just cause someone seems to be human, it doesn't mean he is human. That was all I'm saying.
"Just cause someone seems to be human, it doesn't mean he is human. That was all I'm saying."
Okay, I'll give you that. It's a logical viewpoint to have on a show like this. I would say, however, that it doesn't seem like the show intends on taking that route with Meredith. I could be wrong, of course, but I think what you see is what you get with Meredith.
OK, let's see: Let's assume, Meredith is a human. No witch or something between human and vampire (obvious, since she is working with injuries and blood all day long). If they want to keep the character, they have two possibilities.
1. She is a guest star (and remains that way), so she can be (and stay) normal human, showing up from time to time (like Carol and Liz) and help or make trouble. No big deal.
2. She becomes regular. In that case, they have to do something about her. And if she stays normal human, they have to make up something else. A dark secret, hidden passion, … And more than just "I occasionally give my patients vampire blood to help them heal", we already got that.
But first: let's see, if she even makes it thru S4. We know that Alaric tried to kill her before. What's stopping him form trying again? And if she becomes Damons new drinking buddy, it's not long till they end up in bed (as we know Damon) and when that happens, her days are numbered.
"She becomes regular. In that case, they have to do something about her."
Why would they have to do something about her? Matt is a regular character and he's also exactly what he seems to be.
"And if she becomes Damons new drinking buddy, it's not long till they end up in bed (as we know Damon) and when that happens, her days are numbered."
I honestly don't think Julie Plec knows what she's going to do with Meredith yet. The impression I get from reading recent interviews is that she's still tossing around ideas and hasn't made up her mind yet.
Yes, Matt is one of the few regular humans. But he is deeply bound to the others (Elena, Jeremy, Caroline, Tyler, Bonnie). I think, he sort of represents their past life. He is the connection to the lifes they had before this madness started. When they were all humans and lived a simple life. Where their biggest concern was homework or a math exam or who your date to the next school dance will be.
I agree that, for now, they still hadn't decided, what to do with Meredith. But since Jenna was the only normal regular adult human (she was needed, because she represented Elenas and Jeremys family), I'm assuming that they will change something about Meredith, if they want to make her a regular. The only other adult human was Alaric. And he was a hunter and turned into a psychopath and now into a vampire. The other adult humans are just guests, like Liz or Carol. Sure, they could keep Meredith as human (even as a regular), if they could find a place for her. Not so easy, if they don't want to make it clear that she is just forced into the story, so we have a regular adult human.
But, as I said, we just have to wait and see, if she survives this season.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

I never said the show was like the books.
