Three new episodes of Community on May 17
28 Apr 2012
Cancelled Shows CommunityNBC recently changed its plans for May 17.
Episodes 1.12 & 1.13 of Awake were supposed to air that night, but given the abysmal ratings of the drama series (0.8% of the 18-49 demo last Thursday after Parks and Rec (1.6%)... and Awake doesn't have to face TBBT, Grey's Anatomy or American Idol (some other NBC shows do), it's up against Scandal and The Mentalist), episode 1.12 will air on May 17 at 10pm (instead of 9pm) and episode 1.13 will air on May 24 at 10pm (instead of the previous week).
Community is benefiting from that change, meaning that instead of airing on May 24, episodes 3.21 and 3.22 will air on May 17, during the sweeps ratings period. Three brand new episodes of Community, 65 minutes of creative and hilarious awesomeness, will air from 8pm to 10pm, only interrupted by the season 6 finale of 30 Rock at 8:30pm.
And thus Community will finish its Junior Year on Thursday, May 17. The NBC Upfronts are on Monday, May 14, but I trust NBC will have announced the renewal of Community for a full Senior Year before that.
Thursday, May 17 :
8:00pm : Community — episode 3.20 (The First Chang Dynasty).
8:30pm : 30 Rock — episode 6.22 (No title yet — season finale).
9:00pm : Community — episode 3.21 (Introduction to Finality).
9:30pm : Community — episode 3.22 (Digital Estate Planning — season finale).
10:00pm : Awake — episode 1.12 (Two Birds).
Awake's season finale (I'm afraid there's not much chance episode 1.13 isn't the series finale as well) entitled "Turtles All the Way Down" will air on Thursday, May 24, at 10/9c.

That's good, but I'm still trying to understand why air Introducion to Finality as 3x21 (when it was supposed to air as the finale) before the actual second to last episode. Weird.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping this is a good thing!
ReplyDeleteWow, that sounds like a good thing to me!
ReplyDeletewhat an awesome birthday treat for me!
ReplyDeleteWow this is amazing!
ReplyDeleteOh this is going to be fantastic!! Just because it will be over an hour of new Community episodes on ONE night!!
ReplyDeleteWell maybe if Awake's premiere hadn't been delayed for months and put in the crappiest timeslot possible with a mediocre performer as a lead-in, it would have done slightly better.
ReplyDeleteIs Community thought of as a sure thing for renewal then?
ReplyDeleteRegardless, Three new episodes of Community at once, amazing!
Sounds like NBC is trying to make up for that headscratching midseason benching of the Greendale 7.... ;D
ReplyDeleteMy only complaint: how this decision reflects on Awake.
Granted I'm realistic enough to acknowledge the show was in trouble from the get go, but still considering how much I do love it, it does saden me....
So true! So so sooooooo true! It should have deen on in the fall... that they didn't launch it back then still baffles and upsets me....
ReplyDeleteHoly Chang! This sounds dean-mazing. Cool, cool cool cool.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for Awake... but I'm sooo happy for Community! That's such a good sign for the renewal!
ReplyDeleteI'm so with you about Awake! :-(
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't sound good for Awake, unfortunately. They even used Awake's poor ratings as an excuse to change things around.
ReplyDeleteconcerned that they are burning off the last 3 in one day but!, I love community so this is not a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteIf they were burning them off in April, I'd be worried, but in May sweeps - probably a good sign.
ReplyDeleteRepeat after me: Six Seasons and a Movie!
ReplyDeleteSweet! My birthday is on the 16th and this comes on the 17th! EPIC!
ReplyDelete...or you could have just looked at the primetime schedule posted a few hours before this
ReplyDeleteCommunity has been a sure renewal since the show came back on air...
ReplyDeletethat's a shame for Awake, but great news for Community! Excellent night of television!
ReplyDeleteI'm very happy for Comm Unity, but sad for Awake as I've really been enjoying it... but that 10 pm slot has been a killer for NBC....
ReplyDeleteI knew the ratings improved a fair bit, but I didn't realise it was a certainty.
ReplyDeleteBut I guess the uproar over hiatus that went on over the internet, NBC would be stupid not to renew it.
