It was good, but not as awesome as some of the episodes in the past. I felt like the interactions weren't all that good, but the developments were excellent. Ultimately I felt like this was just a filler episode and was missing some of the umph (is that a word lol) that normally makes the series so fantastic.
I was glad to see that Declan had Jack's back even though it meant losing Charlotte and I was pleasantly surprised how Emily turned Mason Treadwell to her advantage. I'm glad to see that he's finally up to the task of actually telling the truth for a trial and standing up to Victoria.
And poor Daniel. I feel so bad for him, he's just still trying to do the right thing and not become like the rest of his family and it was so obvious that it was wearing him down. I cheered him on when he told Victoria that he would confess to the whole murder if she tried to throw suspicion on Emily. It's funny because I actually started out liking Jack better at the beginning of the series and didn't know how I felt about Daniel, but now Daniel's actually probably my favorite character of the whole series-I really like what the writer's have done with his character.
As for Victoria, God she keeps getting more and more evil. At certain points in the series I've felt sympathy for her character (a sign of Madeline Stowe's great acting ability and good writing), but then after episodes like this one I wonder how I can ever feel anything but dislike for her. I know some people are interested in her past relationship with the guy in tonight's episode, but at this point in time I'm really not. Unless they involve him in the plot with the other characters I could really do without a plotline with Victoria having a "affair."
Anyway that's my piece on tonight's episode. Looking forward to seeing what they do with the rest of the season-should be interesting.
Its great to see one of THE GREATEST SHOWS ON AIR back.
LOVED badass Emily and she all around retains her awesomeness and dark-edge she had without losing it to bawing and the usual tropes of "redemption arc". Please don't stop being so awesome, Emily. Never stop.
Oh but man, Grayson family is MESSED UP. Entirety of Hamptons resort is. Reminds me a bit of Ringer in that pretty much no one is without a stain on their bio.
I do not hold Victoria as "evil" she is just a compulsive liar who LITERALLY knows no other ways to solve things. Its the stigma of that family, I guess, as everyone born in it are or are becoming to be like that.
Exactly! No one on Revenge is completely innocent. While this wasn’t the best episode ever, it was a great way to come back after the break. I almost didn’t get to watch it either, so seeing it made me happier than ever to have my new DVR, the Hopper. A minor last minute emergency sent me out of the house moments before the show started and I was pretty bummed I’d miss it. However, when I got home I remembered the Hopper has the PrimeTime Anytime feature. With that feature enabled it records all four major networks (ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC) every evening automatically. To be honest I’m kind of surprised I didn’t remember that, considering that I’m an employee of DISH and I’ve probably explained PrimeTime Anytime like a hundred times. But I was psyched to realize my show was there and I could still watch it last night before going to work where someone was bound to spoil it for me.
You know I didn't miss it while it was on hiatus, I actually almost forgot about this show, I know shame on me. This was a definite filler episode. I just don't care about Victoria or the Grayson family in general either. I am so glad little Porter did what he had to do for his brother. My bright spot as usual was Nolan. he reminds me of Freddy from Scooby Doo (the cartoons). Can't wait to see how this season ends. But I don't get why they made his house arrest out at the Hamptons', I would assume that they have a home in the city. Oh, well. Nit pick is me.
I enjoyed it. Though the episode felt more like it was maneuvering chess pieces for the final part of the season. I was pleased they managed to put another nail in Treadwell's RevengeCoffin while they were at it.
Wasn't overly happy to see the return of Mason Treadwell. I was fine with that episode's story, but the character left me a little turned off. Okay, I admit that could be because the writers and actor did such a good job first time around. He seemed more smarmy to me, in this ep, where as in his previous ep he came across as more pathetic than smarmy. But I ended up liking the way he was used here. Declan, Declan, Declan. We've seen in past eps that he truly cares for Charlotte, but he had to pick his brother. I'm sure that if Declan was a we bit smarter he would have figured out a way to save his bro and hang onto Charlotte, but blood will out. I hated this character when the show started. I might have picked a different actor, but the character has definitely grown on me.Geez Victoria, you hire people to put the beat down on your baby boy to get him out of prison and then you get upset because he got hurt? Really? The whole Emily and Daniel relationship has felt like a way for Emily to take on Victoria without *really* taking her on. Mostly, in my view, because she didn't really have the claws to take Victoria on head on. Well, in this ep, Emily showed her claws and they're pretty sharp. Trailing Victoria and getting the evidence about Daniel's attack...I cannot wait to see how that one plays out. And Emily's beat down on Victoria's thug. Wow.The one element that I haven't completely sussed out yet is where Emily's character is going from here. She mentioned Takada's words, but I'm not sure how that's going to play out.
Hell, even the unusually strict sentence for Daniel seems like something Emily did in order to bring in Mason. It all clicks way too well.
And Painter just appearing in the town to go for Victoria at the MOST convienient time for Emily strikes as very Emily thing to do. She has thoroughly researched Graysons for years. Getting "dirt" on Victoria would obviously be in her plans since she did an extensive preparations based upon backstories of every other grayson.
She took what Takeda said to the heart, even though she dislikes him. So I would not be surprised if that all is part of her "less emphatic" measures on her plan.
Emily started as smug person playing a game of sorts, but through the show we saw her resort to more and more drastic measures.
First she just did usual manipulations, identity fraud and more "light" stuff. Then she added kidnapping to her list of her crimes. And blackmail. And breaking-and-entering. Concealing evidence. Concealing murder attempts, concealing murder, etc.Now she has outright beaten up a person physically.
Emotionally and personality wise, she clearly went a lot more devious and started taking things more personally and stuff started to phase her less.
Goal wise while her starter plans had more focus on bringing her targets to justice(in her own understanding of it), her newest plans are less about justice and more about inflicting hurt, pain and suffering to her targets.
I think its refreshing.
99% of revenge stories out there start at the highpoint and go on and on and on about redemption and character softening as the whole "ice queen facade" falls.
In emily's case its an opposite. She is showing more emotions, but her methods are getting more drastic and dangerous.
I agree completely is refreshing (and a whole lotta fun!) but, I'm not sure I agree with your assessment about Emily with regard to her emotions. The problem, as Takeda defined it, was that she started to care too much. Her beating the crap out of that thug was evidence that, despite her words to Nolan, she hasn't just flipped all of that off. That was a very passionate beating.
The section of the season ( since Tyler and FauxAmanda showed up) were mostly about her trying to keep everything from slipping out of control. She was tap dancing and reacting more than putting plans into action.I think you're right, she's going darker. (One of the issues I had at the start of the show was the her early revenge operations were fairly simplistic and handled very quickly.) I'm hoping that "darker" results in more juicy destruction down the line. Hopefully, after Daniel's trial finishes up she can regain control of the situations and become the manipulator again. (Actually, I'm hoping her actions in Doubt are the beginning of that.)
Yeah, I really hope you're right. Darker Emily manipulating situations to cause maximum destruction to all of these people equals loads of viewing fun!
I finally got to see Emily kick some more ass though. I've been waiting for that all season long. Besides that, the most interesting part was that Jack asked Nolan to look after Declan. That's hilarious.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

I love reading your comments. agree 100% with all you said!
ReplyDeleteThe episode was great! Loved seeing Emily kick major butt.
ReplyDeleteWow, thank you so much! You just totally made my night!!! It's really nice to hear that somebody likes reading what I write.
ReplyDeleteGlad that I'm not alone in my thoughts on the episode too lol.
