  1. Awesome as always, there's a lot on my mind right now, but... Was that a goodbye to the other side?

    ReplyDelete
  2. So, here's what I don't understand. The worlds have always been "inextricably linked". How can they just sever the link without both words dying?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I missed the first 5 minutes, but the rest was awesome! Pretty heartbreaking at the end when they all had to say goodbye. Funny enough Lincoln has finally grown on me, and now he is gone too, well to the other side that is.

  4. The alternate world is still there. You just can't use the bridge anymore to cross over. You could use Walter's door, but no one would risk damaging the worlds now that there isn't a machine to heal the two sides. So for all intents and purposes, the link has be severed.

  5. I think that's the key...they can't. But I will say that shutting down the machine probably did slow Jonesy down a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  6. what a powerful episode. It really left things open for the finale which i think was really good.

How about that promo though?!?!?!?!?!?!? MIND = BLOWN

    ReplyDelete
  7. Oh, I wasn't trying to imply that the alt universe is just "gone".

Your explanation is probably as logical of one as I've come up with so far.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Oh, I'm so pathetic. Only one word for that ep: sob!

    Where's the "EPIC" option?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I refuse to believe that this is the last we'll see of the Redverse. From season one, the whole overarching story has been about these two worlds and the relationship between them...and to finish the series without a clear resolution with regards to the Redverse is unacceptable to me.

Olivia can still cross over, and I don't see why Peter can't remake the bridge after they stop Jones. Plus I need a weekly dose of Lincoln-awesomeness.

  11. No, Lee stayed there... I'm not surprised but I'll miss him. I'll miss the entire other side actually...
    Great episode.

  12. Hey, where is the epic button?
Just when you think it can't get any better, they top it. And the preview, omg.

    ReplyDelete
  13. OMG... I even cried @ the end.... I really really really hope we still might get to see the Alter World {Alt-Livvie}  back... It wouldn't be the same now if we didn't ...

Damn you writers! Why are you soo awesome???

*Add: pleace don't let this be the final goodbye to the Alter-World?? Ok???

  14. Seems like I did not like it.. I am really gonna miss the redverse, altliv is my second favorite (being ourliv the first).
Still hoping for it to comeback b4 season 5..

absolutely, I was sooooo sad to se the red verse go Faux "I admire what you have, who you are" to Liv, Liv to Faux "I was going to say the same thing...(and) And, keep looking up." Rainbows :-)

AltAstrid waving to Astrid. Awww. so sweet.

    I'd push that button.

I knew he was going to stay over on that side before he said he was.. Before the computer reflection scene and the convo with peter. "I believe that home is where the heart is" And his heart is with LIv and lee faux. So sweet. I hope he likes faux for faux not for being an altLiv though, b/c faux is kickbutt and she deserves someone who likes her for her not for a backup. I'm gonna miss the red side too!!! I was sad to see them go.

  18. I am so sad that they had to sever the bridge. I liked the alt worlds.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sad and filled with tense, gut wrenching emotion. Another masterpiece. The scene with Walter/Walternate was sooooo good in it's power and subtlety, it's a true crime that John Noble has yet to recognized for his stellar work...

    ReplyDelete
  20. So sad to see they had to sever the tie, but Olivia can still cross over without harming either side so maybe we haven't seen the last of them yet.  Still great episode.  Now we finally know how Nick Lane and Lincoln Lee knew each other.  That's been bothering me since the end of season 2.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wow. Another spectacular episode.

John Noble FTW! It took 20 episodes for that proper Walter/Walternate scene, but it was totally worth it. He was awesome. Cue the Emmy talk again!

Nick Lane FTW! I've been hoping he'd come back for a while, and I was not disappointed. Others have been fixated on the mystery of why alt-Lincoln seemed to know Nick in Over There, Part 1; I have not. But I am glad they resolved that. I knew Nick would make the guard kill himself.

DarthLocke4, DarqueMode, WeAreLostBeth, and myself FTW! We three called pretty much everything that happened in the last few episodes and what will happen in the next two. Darth, with her theory that Jones and his ZFT cult is attempting some wacked-out apotheosis by destroying the universes. Darque, with his (or her) theory that Jones may be a good guy (which has not been entirely proven, but I think we pretty came pretty damn close to confirmation tonight). WeAreLostBeth, with her bringing the ZFT manifesto back into the fold. And me, buliding on the previous three and theorizing that William Bell is alive and working with Jones in a Crimson King/Randall Flagg (or Voldemort/Peter Pettigrew) style partnership.

When Walter was explaining Jones' plan, was I the only one that thought of Halo? The idea that the machine acts like one of the Halos occurred to me as far back as Reciprocity. Obviously the machine wasn't a Halo, but the reference came strongly back into the picture tonight. It seems like Jones wants to gather his flock into his Ark (more biblical mythology), turn on whatever godawful Halo he's built, and repopulate what remains. Maybe the "better human being" is the Observer, and the final season will be the war with Jones' greatest creation. If they REALLY wanted a mindfuck, what if this already happened with the first Big Bang, and all existence is constantly repeating?

I will certainly miss the other side, if that's the end; but as the wise Walternate once said: "Nothing is as it seems.". I think they'll be back.

I'm sorry if this is a bit disjointed; I'm just flinging stuff as it comes out of my head. There are, no doubt, a ton of details I missed. I loved this episode, but it was a thousand times better because of the renewal. So excuse me while I go blast this song in celebration so loud they can hear it on the other side: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJgOLu5iAFs

  22. They certainly did not wait to kick into overdrive did they?!?!
Wow. Great episode.- I always enjoy the level of discomfort in the Bridge Room meetings! XD- Nice to have another callback to the "unwilling" warriors of ZFT. It always felt like much more than just a seasonal subplot to me and to see it in the "endgame" excites me!- They glyphs spelled out "A-L-I-V-E", but who or what is alive?- I think Fauxlivia has a place OurLee can move into....Last week I was wondering like many others why there was no mention of Red Universe at all. I can easily accept it was just a future peak at our Blue Verse, but maybe they do stay cut off from Red Verse. If so... is that what allows the Observers to arrive later? Separate from our twin we were ripe for takeover?I'm really glad this episode was not like last year's episode 20. I felt that was the best of the 3 "finale episodes and it lost a bit of the momentum between it and the final episode. This episode was a perfect setup or serving plate for the real finale to come!

    ReplyDelete
  23. It certainly is setting up that it is less Red vs Blue and more Jones vs Bell.

Which is awesome to me since I love both characters.... Even if we do not SEE Bell enough, his impact is always felt!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I always took Red Verse as a temporary means to learn about our own Blue Verse... not a separate story itself. I will miss some of the Red Verse characters and the dynamic between it and Blue, but I will not miss their resolution honestly. I think they are not important except as way to tell Blue's story....

They still could come into play, but with only 15 episodes left it seems like it would be too much to ask to get resolutions to 2 universes..... Never know though...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Awesome and sad and mind blowing and sweet and crazy good and ... well I think you all know.  I really hope we haven't seen the last of the Redverse, I like seeing good Walternate and Altlivia and Altrid.  Please don't go!  Damn you Jones!

  27. #Home is Where Your ♥ Is...
     Yup, it is true!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well obviously the Blueverse is our "main" universe, but the Redverse has become such a big part of the show over the last 3 years that there's no way I will be satisfied with "OK, they dissolved the bridge and their world stopped healing and that's that". What if the Redverse starts to decay again? What about Scarlie and Bug girl? What about a happy ending for Fauxlivia and Lincoln? What about Meana?

Nope...too much is left ambiguous for them to not at least touch on it in the homestretch.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I knew he was going to say there the second the idea of severing the connection was brought up. The writing has been on the wall for weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Sad episode. This week i have seen sad episode only. whyy?? But we belong to the blue-universe so, what is next?!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think him vanishing is just a film technique to imply that he disappears into the crowd?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Nick Lane pulled a Keyser Soze.... ...
" ... and like that, he was gone"

    ReplyDelete
  33. For me, as fun as they were, Scarlie and Bug Lady mean absolutely nothing... Fauxlivia, Walternate and the rest mean more of course.

I still say that they were there as reflections of our Blue Fringe team to illustrate various points. How certain events shape people and how people would be different if not for those events or their connections to other people.

We learned about Blue team through Red team, but it was never about the Red Universe or Red team. They were important as a vehicle to show aspects of Blue team members, but not as important on their own.

Maybe I am way off on that, but to me the show has always been about Blue Universe and our Fringe team and the rest has always been supplementary.

That said, I'm not sure we are done with them yet....
It could easily turn out that cutting the two universes off from one another is what leads to the 2036 future we saw and next season will be all bout finding a way to reunite the universes in some way to heal both worlds from their various ills.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Walter and his LSD.  How awesome!

I absolutely LOVED the scene with the two Walters.

Did it work? (from the promos it did)  Speaking of the promo....not a clue how to take that.  Am I gonna be strong enough not to watch until both eps have aired?   History says.."No"...  :-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. That was amazing but also exactly what I didn't want to happen!!

I love the Red Verse so damn much, I really didn't want to say goodbye to them and especially Lincoln is he gone for good? Oh cruel world why???  Alt!Liv is actually probably my favourite Olivia as well. This is what happens when I get attached to characters, I should have known I wouldn't be able to keep them sighs.

I absolutely adored all the goodbye scenes though oh Walter/Walternate, the two Olivias and the rainbows, Peter and Lincoln! The Astrids. Oh god I'm crying just thinking about it again.

    ReplyDelete
  36. One of the best episodes of the series. My mind is too loaded right now, maybe I'll share my thoughts later.

i am agree with all the wooow the best scene the two walter said good bye

    ReplyDelete
  39. Really enjoyed the episode, although it still seems to be leaving more questions unanswered than answering them.

I really had hoped at some point someone would address in the season why some people were alive again, and what it meant, as I always find it a little unconcluded when Alt-Broyles, Jones, Lane etc etc are all alive, yet then we're supposed to be surprised Bellie "could" be alive.

Guess it's only a small issue, but seeing as about 10 episodes at the start of S4 were addressing it, it deserves some better wrapping up.

Overall though, it was a strong episode. Wondering where we're going now though for our final 15! That's less than LOST's final season already! :O

    ReplyDelete
  40. Maybe they are just shocked every time they encounter somebody who was dead in their original timeline..... Everyone from this timeline has been clueless about events that happened "before" in the original timeline.... maybe Bell from this timeline is aware of "past" events?

Or maybe this Bell is also from the original timeline so their shock is not about meeting another person who never died in this timeline, but meeting a person from their timeline who was supposedly dead and yet is actually alive?

  43. Loved the Walters together! I lost it when our Walter started crying, afraid of losing Peter once again!

I hope they find a way to reunite the two worlds,i will miss Fauxlivia,i've come to like her very much, and i'll even miss Lincoln.but i knew he was going to stay. At least he now has his Olivia, and he feels that he found his home. Geez i think i have separation anxiety! Damn that Jones guy, why, why,oh why?

The look on Walter face when he looked to see if Peter was still there, god i gasp for a split second i thought he was gone! Of course they had to pan on each person before the camera landed on Peter's face, god what a relief..and wasn't it beautiful when peter smiled and put his arm around his dad!

  44. An awesome episode. Things are really starting to move. Although at the same time seemed a little rushed. I'd like to think the Red Universe will still play a part in the story. In a typical show it would, but Fringe can never be called that. I'm just glad there's time left to wrap up a fantastic show.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ok very sorry if I missed this. When Peter was 'erased' from the timeline, how did the two universes bridged without Peter in the first place?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Lou, they still exist! They aren't gone for good. I'm sure will see them again. I think that now, that Peter is back home and the bridge doesn't exist anymore, we will be back to the blue intro...

  47. Walter told Nina "Belly is alive!" promo #421

    ReplyDelete
  48. but they can make it to 2036 though....

    ReplyDelete
  49. I voted "great"

I def think in regards to the quantum mechanics involved we are going to have to "JUST GO WITH IT", as Lincoln Lee suggested.

Everything about the way this is panning out is a juxtaposition to what we thought the mechanics were in our season 1-3 time line, unless the machines get build from scratch on both sides, it seems unlikely what supposedly has been happening with the machine(s), will be able to happen again.

It's hard logic that you could use a bridge to stop the destruction of decaying universes, that it can heal, and that you can unhook them with out going back to decay...but it might emphasize a specific restoration process (trinity = immortality = revival), in which maybe Peter and the Machine created an iteration with some "reversed" laws (reciprocity).

It's all sort of interesting since the Observers own logic is often "backwards"...
Additionally seeing the cortexiphan subjects on the side of Jones and claim he is good, is also an opposition from what we saw before and It's still hard to predict how this relates to the Observers, which considering they thought Peter getting into the machine an important event, it was also strange to see them not here for Peter's dismantling of them (which by they way, where the heck did the machine go?--It's kind of similar to the anti-matter bomb Walter set off that engulfed MD in 2036)

If anything we might be seeing how things were ever created by seeing how to "uncreate" them.

As for everything else, It was nice to see some resolution from the Walters--and emphasis how important Peter's choice was...as Waltenate is and Walter have found peace and balance between themselves...

But what lingers for me is Being Better Than Your Father might require not only redeeming your own mistakes, but your fathers...I still wonder if Peter is inside the machine...

At any rate can't wait for our finale episodes and to see how we get from 2012 to 2036!

(and in case you didn't here B****'s alive!)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Ahh ok. I guess I should have gathered that from some of the comments I read,

I wrote this all before I watched the promo... during commercials! XD
So I had not seen the promo yet when I wrote the glyph bit. I never watch the promo after the episode....  I may watch it later in the week, but I usually try to go in unspoilered.

    ReplyDelete
  51. But which Bell from which universe and which timeline? XD
Only with Fringe could I need those qualifiers! XD

    ReplyDelete
  52. One thing I was surprised about was that Olivia didn't explain that to Nick...not only were together as kids, but in another time line we crossed universes to try and warn and stop Walternate using Peter and the Machine...

But I like the oppositions the end of the season has started to through at us...

    ReplyDelete
  53. It's a mystery that I have also been wondering all season! --All we know is that they were turned on 3 years earlier in 2009...

    ReplyDelete
  54. It would be cool if we don't see them for a while after the finale and we get going with 2036 and then suddenly, the future red universe comes into play to fight the Observers...

Of course considering that Bell did something to Olivia...I wonder if she crossed over to get Jones, but left her behind???

There are just so many things they could do!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I got choked up too! --But I expected more from blue Olivia though...

It was emotionally great! And Lincoln Lee said it best, "Home is where your heart is".

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yeah that will be interesting to learn! XD

    ReplyDelete
  57. We did good! XD

    ReplyDelete
  58. It parallels human genetic engineering with time line engineering. If you want to prevent a disease, we might have to "rearrange" the genes....if we want to save or fix or balance the universes, then we have to "rearrange" the variables to get new or changed results. Ultimately that's the point....we're all made up of matter and we all go through processes over time.

But uniquely this iteration may also have a different set of quantum mechanics...and it may be because it's a different kind of reality (ethereal). It's the idea that change may also mean "reversal" and that is why all the relationships are "opposite" to what they were. This is all very intentional....

But I am still thinking we may go back to the end of season 3 before the series ends...

    ReplyDelete
  59. I dunno, man! Seeing a red Charlie turn up randomly in 3036 would be SO fun!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yes. And I was worried too that Peter would be gone. Happy he was still there. Sweet scene.

    ReplyDelete
  61. No i didn't hear that Bell was still alive.I haven't watched it again, not feeling to hot today..I must admit i must of gotten pretty lazy to not think about Peter being still in the machine. Is he still in the machine, gak !!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yep! It most certainty was!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I expected a little more from both of them.It seemed like they were almost shy, they didn't know what to say or how to react.

    ReplyDelete
  64. It was mentioned on the promo for 4x21 (:

    Hope you feel better soon!

    ReplyDelete
  65. The glyph is "ALIVE" as in Bell being alive. I'm not surprised, since this is a different timeline. But Walter is surprised, so I guess Bell died in the new timeline as well. I can't keep up with who is evil and who is saintly, but I never thought Nick really turned around in his thinking. I'm surprised that Olivia trusted him so much. Hope the driver comes through the suicide attempt okay.

I guess we're not going to see much of Lincoln from here on. It was sweet how he and Peter said goodbye. But somehow the Lincoln AltLiv chemistry does not convince me.

    ReplyDelete
  66. They didn't bridge it without him. He did it when he edited the timeline in the machine right before he was erased. He made it so it would be bridged in the altered timeline.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Oh i haven't seen the promo yet...and thanks!

Hey Darth, did you see your hand in the video?

    ReplyDelete
  68. We did, didn't we? And congrats; your Charlie Pace inspired hand painting made the video montage. Here's the video; you come in at 1:16-1:17:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq-iBcAaBuc
And I didn't know your name was Laura. It's a great name.

    ReplyDelete
  69. What you missed: Walter is looking up at the machine. Peter comes up to him and affectionately tells him he doesn't really need a tie. They head into a conference room, where Walter addresses a group composed of Liv, Peter, Lincoln, AltLive, Broyles, and Walternate, explaining his conviction that DRJ is intending to destroy both worlds and create a new one that he can control. Next scene, cortexiphan people are causing earthquakes.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I didn't get to watch the whole thing yet, but so far I didn't see it...

    ReplyDelete
  71. LOL! Ya, I'm the other Laura's doppleganger from a parallel universe...I also didn't mention the town in Ohio I am from, Lilian, because it doesn't exist on your side (;

    ReplyDelete
  72. Not exactly...they have "altered" pasts...it's not that Peter isn't somewhat the cause of the "effect", but it might be that the machine placed Peter in a reality in which certain things "work differently", or initiated a different phase, but clearly in terms of the existence of the people in the new time line, the machine has to come to be activated another way...a way they chose not to explain, because Peter was not there to turn them on.

    ReplyDelete
  73. HA! I thought it was perfectly placed! There is one more from here but i don't know his/her name they just put M. Its of the hand that looks like blood being smeared, that is also wild.I hope they get to see it!

    So,now your famous! wink! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  74. I have nothing but great things to say about Fringe. I actually choked up at the end. Haven't done that since LOST and 24. My only gripe is that I'd really like to see Charlie by the seasons end.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I really hope not.. that goodbye scene made me really sad :( I was Lincoln and Fauxlivia back ;_;

    ReplyDelete
  76. Thanks good recap. I have since rewatched it to see the first 5 and you are dead on. : -)

    ReplyDelete
  77. No, the machine only works with Peter, at least that's how future Walter programmed it. Peter must be the one to turn on the machine and make the decision, so if the bridge is created, that means Peter existed. However, since Peter is also the problem, balancing both universes means he cannot exist, but if he doesn't exist, the decision cannot be made.

    ReplyDelete
  78. did anyone else catch this message on the title screen (observers are here)

    ReplyDelete
  79. Ok so Peter bridged the two universes (we saw that in s3 finale). BUT he was erased from the timeline afterwards. Then everyone has altered memories...memories of a timeline without Peter. In THAT Altered-Peterless-timeline-memories there were differences such as Olivia was adopted by Nina, etc.

So the question is from the POV of Walter, Olivia and everyone else with memories  of the altered-Peterless-timeline-memories, who or how did the universe bridge in the first place?

    ReplyDelete
  80. In multiple time line ---then why do others exist that died...whether this is corporeal or ethereal, many multi time line theories (Hawking/Penrose) can avoid not existing. because infinant realities exist. and So just because you killed your father doesn't mean you never existed...you just create "branch offs" of the time line by time traveling...

Additionally he didn't have to make an interface....OLIVIA was the crowbar...she should have been able to open it and let Peter get in, but then it would require him to get in yet again...and for some reason nn one wanted to take the chance on that...

I think this idea also goes back to season 1...in the ghost network the head devise was used one way, and then in inner child it could be "modified" to be used in another....there showing us that the machine(s) can be used in more than one way and that any given reality can have a different set of mechanics...Of course Peter might still be in the machine...

I am not saying Peter didn't cause this reality at all, but the truth is we don't know if there is a bigger picture outside of the machines, like the fact the Observers led him to use it, to disappear, and they let him live now...

I would say you would be right if the physicallity wouldn't be different, but in everyone's memory both Peter's died the machines were activated in 2009---that's what they said...but the reason that's possible may or may not have anything to do with Peter, especially if all of this is still leading Peter to try and change the future of his time line, by changing this one.

    ReplyDelete
  81. This was a great episode.  Tied to the mytharc with some action and incredibly poignant.  I will miss Walternate, Alt-Liv, and Alt-Astrid.  However, I wonder if closing the bridge might have worked into DRJ's plans all along.  He seems to be one step ahead of them the whole time.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Χιλιόμετρα μπροστά το επεισόδιο...

    ReplyDelete
  83.  to me blue Lincoln is not suited in fringe

    ReplyDelete
  84. Does this mean "Be a better man than your father"?

    ReplyDelete
  85. It was beyond awesomeness. So touching. So good.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I thought Peter was kind of cold to his real father when saying good bye.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Yeh I had to rewind that bit, coz I thought I'd blinked and missed something.

    ReplyDelete
  88. But if it is Jones Vs Bell, why couldn't he have just told the Fringe team about it 400 episodes ago?  Would be pretty useful to have them on your side instead of letting them keep trying to thwart your every move.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I re-watched it and yeah I think you're right.  On any other show that's what I would have automatically assumed, but on Fringe I feel like I can't overlook ANYTHING.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Aren't warriors of ZFT supposed to be unwilling at first?
    From ZFT manuscript:
"Many warriors of the inevitable confrontation are among us now - but before they can be considered soldiers, they must be regarded as recruits. And the expectation must be that they shall be unwilling". That said, it still could be Jones working for and with Bell.... I think ZFT is a perfect foil for Bell, but it could be basically one and the same as Bell.

I was reading what bits of ZFT we have seen on screen. It's amazing how much it truly sets up the entire plot for the series and for the finale.

    ReplyDelete
  91.  For me, it wasn't that he was cold, per say, I just thought, 'That's it? That's how you are saying goodbye to him?' I wonder if more was filmed for the scene but it was edited out? I also felt like they cut out 'our' Olivia saying goodbye to Lincoln. (Unless I'm totally spacing on seeing that scene?)

    ReplyDelete
  92. Ridiculously amazing as per usual. John Noble...my God. This man can act the shit out of anything can't he? And I was NOT expecting us to say goodbye to the Alt-verse. I really hope that's not the end of it cause I really love 'the other side.'

  95. A great but sad episode.
     - A good Cortexiphan callback ep. is always welcome, as is Nick Lane.
     - Fauxlivia seems like she's really going to miss Olivia.
     - The Walter / Walternate stuff was fantastic.
     - AltAstrid waving goodbye was too damn heartbreaking.
     - I'm going to miss the weird, messed up inter-division Fringe family.
     - Closing the bridge may be an opportunity for Olivia to cross back over using her abilities.

  97. I'm very late with my comment but just wanted to say how brilliant this episode was. It was good to see Nick Lane and the Cortexiphan storyline come back into play but the stand-out moments were between the doppelgangers. Alt-Astrid waving goodbye was so sad and I loved the moments between the two Olivias - they have definitely warmed to each other. But the best moment was between Walter and Walternate - a spectacular scene between two fantastic characters played beautifully by John Noble. I hope it's not the last we see of the other side (and Lincoln!) - it was so weird to see them disappear at the end.
