"Few CSIs have more animosity toward McKeen than Nick, so he's the one to keep your eyes on. In particular, look for Nick to crumble when McKeen's scheming brings the team's credibility into question."
Nick should have killed f****** McKeen when he had the chance!
Why returning into her own body? Esther could stay in Beccas body. Klaus is too busy building his army, killing people and kidnapping Elena, he would never notice it. Not until it's too late. Probably she doesn't have any powers in that body. And she is gonna need her witch powers.
We all could strangle Elena from time to time. Making out with both brothers, can't/won't make up her mind …
But: Have you completely lost it?!?!? Kill off Elena?
There are exactly 3 persons who can't die. Elena, Stefan and Damon. This show is about her standing between the two boys. All the other stories (tomb vampires, Katerina making trouble, the originals and whatever comes next) are fun, exciting and interesting. But their primary function is, to bind fans and make the show more interesting. Otherwise it would be the vampire version of Dawsno's Creek or How I met your mother, or something like that.
Of course they could kill off one of the three characters. But they would have to bring them back. Like in the books. They killed Elena and Damon and they both came back.
So I guess, the seduction fails the first time, ending up with Regina shattering that mirror, however due to some other unknown reasons, succeeds as episode ending cliffhanger.
Elena has no real function in the show. She has no real fanbase. Personality-wise she is pretty much Bella Swan.
HER VERY EXISTENCE in the show makes it more of a soap opera or twilight.
She is the lowest part of the show and her silly love triangle has ALREADY eaten up EVERY bit of good plot.
TVD did not get where it is because of some "epic love story". Critics and fanbase alike HATE the love triangle and it was always the weakest point of the show, but everyone tolerated it because plot was exciting, you had mystery of Katherine, etc. And then the show lost it this season(well it started in S2 with absurdly stupid SACRIFICE story) and look into what a trainwreck the show became.
Show was never loved for triangle. The hate for triangle was balanced out by all those other awesome things that are no more now.
Elena is the weakest link. She has no character development. And its far too late to make fanbase care about her. Triangle is the weakest link. It has no good writing, requires all of the three to act out of character and has no build up.
Elena DYING(PERMANENTLY) and show focusing on someone interesting, like, Caroline(if they drop the ridiculous love triangle that pairing is getting for some reason), would be one of the ways to fix the show.
Sadly it won't happen and Bella Swan of tv shows will continue to ruin it all.
Most of your claims leave the subjective and become provably false.
The triangle has always had a larger and more vocal fanbase, especially online, than any other character or story on this show. I read a lot of reviews and recaps, and while I think we're all tiring of the indecision, most of what I read weighs it positively (or at least, neutrally). It's what got this show greenlit, it's what this show has always been about and always will be about.
I could write a 20 paragraph article on why the "character" of Elena and the whole triangle is a pure insult to writing integrity and coherence and the very basic guidelines of writing(not to mention how tvd writing staff seems to have no idea on what term "protagonist" means) but I feel i have done it enough times already.
Vocal minority is not enough, apparently, since as they increase the ammount of love triangle in the show, the ratings keep falling. :)
And you probably already have, because I think in 98 % of your TVD related posts you complained about Elena and why this show sucks. What keeps you watching?
Love triangles happen in almost every TV-show, so I can't see a reason for anyone to think that is an insult to writing integrity and coherence. Are you a writer, too? Is that the reason why you seem to know about what is right or wrong in writing?
Except for you I haven't heard anyone (or read about anyone) complaining about the triangle, I also don't think it's responsible for the ratings dropping.
What keeps me watching? Namely Caroline and everything about her character being perfectly written. Of course with the degradation of the show that is no longer enough.
I have nothing against love triangles. I LOVE love triangles when they are well executed.
TVD love triangle just...does not work. It undermines the very basic principles of writing coherence, requires all characters involved act out of character and writers tend to sacrifice important and interesting plotpoints and character exposition to add more love triangle (Tyler's soul-searching journey being handled offscreen, bonnie's grieving being offscreen, etc) The triangle comes off as forced and requires contrived plot situations to happen.
Not to mention the major negative factor of the triangle is Elena gilbert as her involvement and the way the writing staff writes and sees her(in that every character seems to go "omg elena's so perfect that I could pee myself right here"), ensures that both male romance options will degrade horribly in presence of Miss Perfect Messiah(Damon for example lost any character layers he had in first season)
But whats majorly wrong is that it brings nothing new to Elena. WE DO NOT SEE HER DEVELOP, nor react to anything, let alone the triangle itself. She is just...there and both brothers angst over her in OOC fashion. But she, the supposed protagonist of this fictional world, gains nothing from it.
Because of those factors the love triangle ends up feeling wooden, fake, forced.
To cut it short, majority of the writing of love triangle(I would not call it triangle, even) comes off awfully like the level of writing of Twilight or something as it seems the trio is in love "just because". and the writers just expect the audience to ignore the horrible glaring plot inconsistencies and bad writing, in order to use Elena as self-insert device for fangirls.
The first season still balanced it out by interesting plotlines, twists and by pure fact of ALLOWING ELENA to do something that is NOT connected to the triangle(search for her mother). Second season turned Elena into irritating object that has no reactions to ANYTHING around her and just stands there to be obsessed over by two brothers. It still had some of the plotlines, namely forwood development and build up which was perfect and it had its entertaining moments, despite the last 4 episodes of S2 being utterly horrible and the whole "Sacrifice" story being unbelievable and badly written. S3 however does not even HAVE plot, apart from filler-plot-devices to fill in between triangle angst. reminds me of the last three seasons of supernatural or last two seasons of heroes. in terms of writing incompetence.
Borednow : I like your ideas - so much drama and unexpected turns of events, you should be on the OUaT's writers team! :) But if "The Stranger" were to end with such a cliffhanger, wouldn't next episode pick up from there and continue the Regina/David/MM story? The synopsis only says (about the present in Storybrooke) that Regina will try to get rid of Emma for good.
My guess is that Regina/David won't go any further than a kiss. I'm not sure why she'll shatter the mirror though - the confrontation with Henry, or maybe the nightmares/visions she starts to have, and it could be because of a failed attempt to charm Charming. Can't wait to see the episode though. :)
As Regina and Emma are preoccupied with the main plot, MM and David will most likely be the secondary plot as the flashbacks are about Snow/Charming.
So most likely (if it happens) you would have Emma's dilemma of leaving storybrooke, Regina trying to get rid of her permanently and David/MM being at their all time low int terms of relationship, but slowly working through this situation, which leads to their reunion in the finale.
I disagree. If it happens, Regina will certainly rub it in MM's face, and there's not enough time before the finale for David/MM to work through this, imo. It's just too major. MM cannot forgive him yet for doubting her innocence when there was hard evidence against her, I don't think she could ever forgive him if he had a one-night-stand with the woman who wants her dead. He may not have his memories, but MM is going to feel betrayed anyway. The fact that Regina is not focusing her efforts on them might also mean that her seduction plan failed and she has to turn her attention to Emma's threats of taking Henry away from her.
Elena is strong. A fighter. But she can't make a decision. She can't choose between the boys. That is her weak spot. And she did develop. At the beginning she was afraid. She hated all the fighting (remember S1, at the school dance, when the brothers killed the vampire that tried to kill her). Now she is a fighter. Although she was stronger in one point at the beginning. She wanted Stefan and only him. Now she is torn between the brothers.
Bella may not be a fighter (she hates the very thought of arguing and more than everything she hates fights) but she knows what she wants. She makes a decision and is not giving up until she gets what she wants. For sample. After Edward left, she wouldn't let go of him. And even after she considered to give Jake a chance she knew, she would always wait for Edward to come back.
And Elena has an important function on the show. She is keeping them all together. She brought the brothers back together, didn’t she? And she is the only one preventing the "good people of MF" (Bonnie, Alaric, Jeremy ant the council) and the brothers staring a war and killing each other. Without her, the others would never get along.
Yeah, the show would be just a soap opera if the love triangles were the only story. That is why they mixed it up with other, much more exciting storys (like the originals; and I never complained about that!). But you're right. All this triangles are getting annoying. It was cool at the beginning. In most shows the relationships are simpler. You love somebody and either he/she loves you back, or not. Not many shows have characters, who loves more persons at the same time. Two characters love each other, they get together, they break up and find someone else. Here they used triangles to create a stronger dynamic between the characters. And it was interesting and the beginning. As I said, you don't get to see that often. But now it seems, like there is just one way of love relationships. Triangles. Sample: Elena loves both brothers. Caroline is thorn between Ty and whatever is going on with Klaus (if we say, that she and Matt are definitely finished and are now just friends). Jeremy was with Bonnie, but was still loving Anna AND Vicky.
And I never said that an "epic love story" made the show what it is. I said, it's the basic story. That's how it started. That is, what is keeping all the characters together. Love and friendship. They can't just be focusing the show on the "fight of the week" or the "villain of the week". That would be boring too.
Like Supernatural. Love it. But: The show wouldn't be so good, if it would be just about the brothers hunting demons and ghosts. It's the relationship between the characters (love, hate, friendship, family, …) that brings it closer to the fans.
Same goes for TVD. All the relationships between the characters are as important as a good villain. You think any of the brothers (or Caroline or Bonnie) would care about Klaus and his evil plans, fight him, if it weren’t for Elena? You think, Bonnie (for sample) would fight together with the vampires she hates so much, if she wouldn't care for Elena, or Caroline or Ty? She would say: That fight is none of my business.
A good show can't focus only on the relationship between the characters (except for daily soaps) or only on the monster/fight of the week. A good show finds the right middle between them.
Agree. Caroline changed for the better since she turned. She got strong and confident.
First, Elena is far from perfect. No one is. Not even Caroline.
Second, I wouldn't say, love triangles don't work on the show. It's just too much at the same time. But as I commented already, the show can't focus only on fighting and the monster or villain of the week. Relationships between characters are at least as important as a villain. Question: witch feels more real to you: fighting vampires and trying to kill a hybrid that can't be killed, or being torn between guys/girls (don't know what you are) and having problems with your best friends you know for years. The relationships make it real. That makes if for fans possible to identify with characters.
Third, yes, maybe we could learn more about Tyler trying break the bond, or Bonnie grieving about her mother and grandmother, or Jeremy trying to put his life back together. But they would have to be careful with that, or the show could split. It would mean too many different storys. Did you ever watched The Tribe? An old teen/kids show where a virus killed off all adults and the kids were left alone? Well, I did. All 5 seasons. The first is my favorite. They were all together. A family. Then, after a while characters left, new characters came, storys split. It was like watching several different shows. That is why I liked the first season most. It showed problems, but was also focusing on the relationships between the characters. Than (S4 and 5) it was just fighting and solving problems.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
So much news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
