Castle: Ah, Perlmutter. I will treasure these special moments we've shared.
Beckett glances at Castle as if she wants to smile, Castle glances back and both quickly look away.
Beckett: So, I take it that this is Mr. Locke?
Perlmutter: Eh, it appears he was set(?) upon by an unknown assailant. Time of death was about 4 am.
Beckett: Cause of death?
Perlmutter: Well, probably blunt force trauma to the head where it hit the concrete.
Beckett: Wallet and cash?
Espesito: Still intact, so it definitely wasn't a mugging.
Castle: A savage beating at 4 am, there must be some motive.
Beckett: Is this a bite mark on his arm?
Perlmutter: It's not just a bite mark, look at the skin. See how it's torn? The killer LATCHED on and shook like a pittbull trying to TEAR OFF THE FLESH!
Beckett: Thanks.... I think we've got it. Anything else?
Espesito: Just this, it was.. uh.. found in our victim's hand.
Espesito shows evidence bag with a piece of shirt in it.
Espesito: Probably torn off the killer's shirt during the struggle.
Castle takes the evidence bag.
Castle: That's a laced cuff(?), hand stitched, little buttons. I'd say this was circa 1870.
Beckett and Perlmutter look wondering at Castle.
Castle: I did a lot of research on the era. I was writing a book. A comedy about the civil war. Turns out it wasn't funny.
Don't know about the last line because the audio cuts out.
