Kiefer Sutherland’s new Fox drama series Touch is amping up the star power. Maria Bello is joining the show for a multi-episode arc this season with an option to become a series regular if the drama, as expected, is picked up for Season 2. Bello will play an earth-mother type whose daughter shared a gift similar to that of Martin’s son Jake. Bello is coming off a starring turn on NBC’s praised drama Prime Suspect. She is with CAA and John Carrabino.

Interesting. Pilot and one episode and it is "expected" to be picked up for season 2? How are decisions like that made with such a small sample?
ReplyDeleteIt's already finished filming S1 so it's intriguing that this hasn't already come out!
ReplyDeletelead-in from American Idol
ReplyDeleteI love Maria Bello.
ReplyDeleteThe Finder had that lead in before it got dumped on Fridays. Fox is pretty much desperate since their rookie shows this year haven't exactly done that well. Touch is extremely lucky that it was the last drama show that aired in this season of disappointing performing shows on the network, this was pretty much their last ditch effort at not having a complete failure of a season for serialized drama shows.
ReplyDeleteNice catch ! Even if the ratings ultimately disappoint (last night's rating was great but not outstanding either), there's very little chance Touch gets cancelled. This news of Maria Bello being a series regular in the future + the fuss about the 24 movie not happening in 2012 because of Kiefer's work on season 2 of Touch this summer (among other reasons) leave not much suspense in Touch's renewal, especially given that Terra Nova and probably Alcatraz won't get to have a second season (Alcatraz keeps getting lower and lower (same as House, but for him we already officially know he won't around much longer)).
ReplyDeleteSo she plays the mother of another "gifted" child, interesting. I really hope there's a bigger pattern to this whole thing, with a really important serialized background to the condition of Kiefer's son. But I probably shouldn't get my hopes up. I haven't seen yesterday's episode yet but Alan Sepinwall said it was very bad (and like him I had my doubts on the concept for the long haul) so I tend to think it wasn't good, even if I think Kiefer can carry any show with his talent and the dedication he puts into his character.
Touch had nothing to do with 24's decisions.
ReplyDeleteI like her - hopefully she's found a good role here.
ReplyDeleteMaria Bello was the only good thing in Prime Suspect. Hopefully, I will see her in Touch's 2nd season :)
ReplyDeleteI a show can be a critical darling but that doesn't neccesarily amp up the every day viewer (Hollywood is after full of self-congratulating jackholes)
