I FREAKING LOVE DAMON SALVATORE!!! OMG I LOVE THAT MAN OF MINE!!! HE WILL NEVER BE REPLACED. LOVED HIM FROM THE PILOT AND IT HASN'T AND NEVER WILL CHANGE!!! Damon made me laugh, turned me on, made me awww, and tricked me out, through this entire episode. His little argument with Elena I wasn't too pleased with but hey what can I do, but i really wanna slap that girl, lol...(ok seriously Julie get my Delena back on track, i'm tired of this shit!) His flirtation with Rebekah to get her to the house and his dancing with Sage, then his "I don't want her, I want you" AHH!!! HE'S SO BAD!! God that turned me on!! Damn, just thinking about it all over again, I think i need a cold shower, lol...then when he was being sincere with Alaric I thought, awww he's with his buddy and he's letting him know Meredith is ok, that was sweet.....him being straight with Stefan more blunt rather was a THANK YOU moment, (same with Elena) god, i'm so tired of their whining, i'm glad Damon didn't sugar coat anything for Stefan, and the end when Damon said he sold his anger, I didn't see that coming, (silly rabbit) lol I should've but didn't..nice move Damon!!! (Does Damon dance, ooohhh yeaaa) Now for Alaric!!! Matt Davis is AWESOME!!!! He totally sold that performance, and he gave me chills all the way through!!! It's never easy on TVD is it?!?! I loved seeing a bad side of him but at the same time I felt so much pain for my favorite Vampire Hunter/History Teacher/Parental Guardian/Council Member, lmao dude has so many titles, hahaha.....I hope something can be done, and NO I DO NOT MEAN DEATH!! YOU KILL HIM AND YOU WILL FEEL MY WRATH!!! Seeing Jeremy again was GREAT!! I was so happy to see him!!! As for Abby......I WANNA STAKE HER!!! I'm not a huge fan of Bonnie, never been, but damn is Abby MESSED UP and I really feel bad for Bonnie!!! Caroline was a trooper 2nite, I missed her, and i'm glad she tried to stop Abby, of course she would.....am I the only one who didn't like that Bonnie forgave Elena so quickly??? I know I know, their best friends, blah blah blah, but I felt she forgave her too quickly and now i'm thinking since Abby left, will Bonnie be mad at Elena again or not?? I mean I know it's not Elena's "fault" but c'mon let's get a little real here, she's not all innocent when it comes to this Abby business, Caroline was right for what she said in All My Children, and I think the issues between them should've stuck at least to the next episode, then again this is TVD, so yea.......Stefan and Elena..do I wanna talk about them?? I really DON'T.......moving on.....Sage was exciting like I knew she'd be, I was upset they made Sage a woman, since I loved Sage as a man in the books, but w/e, Cassidy did a good job, I've always been jealous of her hair, (always wanted to be a ginger) ooo and speaking of the books, I'M SO GLAD THEY THREW THAT MIND READING THING IN THERE!!! DID ANYONE ELSE CATCH ONTO THAT?? C'MON BOOK READERS, WAS THAT NOT AWESOME?? I LOVED the shower scene more cuz of that!!! Next week looks real good, and i can't wait to see the extended promo for it, i will be awake til 3am to view it.....LET'S KILL SOME ORIGINALS!!!! BRING IT!!!
Horrible. Awkward. Pointless. Disgusting. Boring. Those words describe this episode PERFECTLY.
1. The ring storyline that is TWO SEASONS TO LATE and is executed in very contrived and trainwrecky fashion. Uhh, not caring about this. Sorry. 2. Danger to Alaric does not feel tangible because death means nothing in this show. 3. Meredith continues to come off as annoying and pointless and VERY sexist character. 4. Elena continues to be annoying in all of her scenes, coming off as even bigger mary sue. 5. BONNIE FORGIVES ELENA OUT OF NOWHERE. Where's the character conflict? where's exploration of the fact that Elena is ruining the lives of htose around her? Where is a character development for EITHER of them? 6. ABBY SERVES HER PLOT DEVICE ROLE AND LEAVES. What was the point of her? Did she add ANYTHING to Bonnie's character development? NO. She and Bonnie spent most of their time OFFSCREEN and we know absolutely the same amount of info about Bonnie as we did before. That is NOTHING. 7. Sage...oh god, show. I know TVD has been the king of misogyny only rivaled by Supernatural and its tendency to victimize females, but oh god this was painful. Is it too offensive to start nicknaming TVD a "Chris brown of tv shows"? So much misogyny and sexism on that character that its unbearable. 8. So according to this show there are only two types of female - "caring housewaifu of caring"(Elena and the like) and conniving manipulative bitka's? so much sexism that it hurts. 9. Every female character got a horrible sexist treatment this episode, more so than usual. 10. EPISODE WAS POINTLESS YET AGAIN. What important happened there? what new did we learn about characters? NOTHING. This was pointless. yet another episode that gives us nothing in this season of the fillers.
Overall I think THis episode pretty much sealed the deal of my divorce with this show.
I'm not going to adress the rest of the points I don't agree with you, and I'm not planning to because I respect everyones opionion - but can you explain to me what exactly was sexist about Meredith or the other female characters? Housewives? I simply don't get what you mean because I don't see it.
I'm pretty sure my favorite line of the episode goes to Damon.. he had some great ones, but this was my favorite: "Ric, the world can't stop just because you're an accidental psycho killer!" Love it!
This season has definitely been the best thing to happen to Stefan - I love the middle ground he's trying to find, between the psycho ripper (who I must admit I loved) and the broody sad version.. and it's really given Paul Wesley a chance to flex his acting chops.
The ring story isn't two seasons late, the point is the amount of times he's died over the seasons has lead to this. No idea where you're coming from about the sexism, they don't just show the females as conniving, they show pretty much everyone like that when needs be. Abby is not gone, she's got more episodes. Death does mean something on this show. Look at Jenna? They've never brought anyone back from the dead (unless you count turning into a vampire or being an original). The closest they came was ghosts, and they weren't around for long. I really have to wonder what show you were watching as I thought this episode was great.
Does anyone know if the darkness they spoke off in regards to Alaric is talking about possession or just his own dark side? Curious if the ring is just bringing out what we all have in us (magnified by like a thousand) or he's died so many times something has crawled back with him. My point is both times this has happened the killer has gone after council members, leading me to suspect a 3rd party which uses the rings to enter this world and kill.
The ring story is insignificant because of how cheap death is and of HOW MANY ways to cheat it there.
Just like the lack of character development for Elena "Bela" Gilbert, the consequences of plot-armor tools are way too late in the story.
Sage is the most misogynist creation of this entire show. Every female is classified in two ways. It seems those writers can't write the female characters without some sort of romance plot.
When was the last time we have seen some female DEFINED by her strength, brutality and pride instead of her sexuality, manipulativity and maternal sides? Never. Pearl was partially that but she lasted whopping three episodes or so and since then every female role has been increasingly sexist.
Oh yes. Jenna. Who remembers her? Oh right, NOT EVEN ONE PERSON IN THE CAST. They all went to see a movie next episode. What were consequences both emotional and material from her death? OH YEA, NONE. There are rings, deus ex machina spells, healing blood and god knows what else to cheat death. Death means nothing.
Heroes was ruined completely by having ONE cheat-death tool. Supernatural lost any credibility due to people dying and reviving all the time. TVD has DOZENS of ways to do that.
I do agree to an extent about the cheating death, I'm waiting (and hoping) for there to be a side effect to drinking vampire blood to heal (kinda like how the rings have screwed Alaric up because of repeatedly dying and coming back)
Actually the ring story isn't insignificant because it actually shows that there ARE consequences if one cheats death. Which in my opinion covers the "with all magic comes a price" thing - as it did when Bonnie saved Jeremy's life.
Sage in your definition falls into the "scheming" category I guess? I don't think you can put all female characters into only these categories, as they usually are a little bit of all those things and more. Also, as I don't know if Sage will reappear again - we don't know her well enough to say much about her, but she's obviously blindly in love which unfortunately defines her actions.
I really don't understand what being kidnapped, scheming or having a romance has to do with sexism as those things happen to males too? Also, what exactly does having a romance (or the other storylines you mentioned) to do with misogyny?
As for the letter, it says "...For me it's the end. For you, a chance to grow old and someday do better with your own child than I did with mine. ... " - uuhhhh there's is no sexism whatsoever in this letter. He's simply admitting in having failed and hoping that one day she'll do better.
"When was the last time we had a female in TVD that is DEFINED by her brute strength, independence and brutality" - errrr do we want that? I don't think brutality and brute strength alone should define any person, male or female.
Romance is typical in life and therefore not so unusual in a TV-show. Actually I hardly know any show with no romance in it. Romance makes characters more human so we can relate to them in a better way.
As the season continues I guess it will be explained, what kind of consequences cheating death with the rings actually have.
Decent episode. - I see that the Elena / Damon dynamic has devolved into straight-up animosity. It's an interesting development, even if it's basically a rehash of how they were in season one. - I'm glad to see Damon finally got through to Stefan and he's dealing with his blood issues instead of avoiding them. - Meredith is a bit hypocritical. Last week she chewed Elena out for her relationship with vampires and yet she's constantly overlooking all of Alaric's baggage and his best friend is a vampire. - Sage betrayed Damon. Did this really surprise anyone? Also, If Finn is really her soulmate how could she not know that Finn is a self-hating momma's boy? - How can Caroline possibly be such a good person and a vampire? Somehow, being undead has turned her into a saint. - This episode was the final nail in the coffin for Bonnie's mom. What a waste of a potentially good character. -This episode gave some really good insight into why Rebekah is the horrible person she is. I guess it's not just Klaus' influence that makes her the way she is.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
So much going on, I am loving Stefan this season, he is not just a whiny vamp and he is rocking his character..Excellent job Paul.
ReplyDeleteDamon in the shower would put this ep at the top of my list, even if the rest of the ep was a dog, which it was far from that.
Please don't let anything happen to Ric, he is my favorite human, but saying that I would love to see him staring in his own show.
Was good to see Jer.
Love Damon and Stefan's plan this should be great in coming eps. I don't want Elijah gone though. He is my favorite original.

It may be out of the producers hands. If Davis' CW pilot is picked up to series, Alaric is done.
