  1. I loved the episode so much. Garth was hilarious, especially with Poison. And I love the boys' friendship with them.

And I was hoping Surprise Ghost!Bobby would make an appearance and then he did and Dean didn't see him AND ALL THE FEELS. ALL OF THEM. ALL OF THEM.

  5. Sucks for the people who refused to watch live because Garth was in it.

    Best kept spoiler secret ever

  6. Man.. Bobby.. I've missed him...

Ok so what happened to no more breaks this season. Now it's not on again until the 20th???? Every time they get a groove they pull it and run a rerun!

Absolutely loved this episode! Only Supernatural can have me cracking up all hour to finally get to an emotional episode ending. Cannot wait for Bobby's return and April 20th

  8. I have no idea how they managed to keep this secret, considering this fandom CRAVES spoilers so much, but GOOD JOB!  Was completely shocked and it was /awesome/.  I keep wanting ot scream 'BOBBAY!!!'  *glees*  And next week's episode??  YAY!  More BOBBAY!!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Wait, april 20th???  Another  2 week hellatus?????  RIGHT AFTER WE GET CONFIRMATION AND SEE BOBBAY???  WTF IS WRONG IWTH YOU?? CAP LOCKS WILL SURELY GET MY POINT THROUGH!!

  10. Ya but then it is 5 straight episodes to end the season.

  11. A fun eps, I am a big Garth fan and of course had to cry the last few minutes.  But dang I want Baby back.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oh man...I was ambivalent on this one up until the last five minutes...and they just did me in!
I started out being annoyed by how they seemed to brush over Sam's hallucinations being gone. I get that they were setting this up as a stand alone episode but it was a pretty major development, I think it required SOME kind of acknowledgement.
As for the case itself...that I liked, classic Supernatural. Loved the having to be drunk to see the monster twist. And some great lines.
I am SO glad that DJ Qualls was brought back...he deserved more air time after being lost in Time For A Wedding. And he delivered, as usual..."You've been Garthed". Loved that.
The sock puppet was stretching things a tad, but overall I loved DJ and like the character of Garth.
Speaking of stretching things...they really want us to believe that little girl was drunk after one sip of vodka? Um...think not!
Loved drunk Sam...he always was a cute drunk. "National Security!"...that may have been my favorite moment of the night.
And go figure...the one moment he NEEDS to be drunk, Dean's the only one who isn't!
And finally we have confirmation on what we'd suspected about Bobby. I was worried that they were going to have Dean be pissed at Sam after his revelation about the talking board but fortunately they avoided that.
I loved the moment in the brewery...Dean so wanted to believe that was Bobby...but really, as much as I love the emo stuff, it's been so overdone with Dean lately that that moment kind of lost some of its impact.
Then we get the last five minutes. Oh man...I'm still tearing up. Bobby!! I knew he'd stuck around. I find it odd that he, off all people, can't figure out how to communicate as a ghost, but I like that he's still there watching over his boys...sigh.
Oh and I have to say...a freakin' PACER?! Ok, I think we've reached the limit on POS cars of the week...could we PLEASE, PLEASE bring back Baby?!!
All in all, I have to give this one an 8 out of 10. It had it's good moments but overall left me less than completely satisfied.

HOLY CRAP BOBBY!!! I was so surprised by his appearance that i literally got a chill when i saw him that is how good the twist and tease was. And man next episode with them seeing bobby is going to be sweet!! This was a really good episode I hated the wedding episode so much that I didnt really watch garth much but after this episode i really like him hope he comes back he's not as dumb as i thought he was going to be.

    ReplyDelete
  14. When it comes back it will run to the end..no more breaks.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah, it has been kind of stop and start this season, which is annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  16. That may have been my least favorite part of the episode, actually.   Funny yeah, but I don't know...just didn't like it that much.

    ReplyDelete
  17. More like 3 weeks, but who is counting. lol  The run to the end is going to be so good.

    ReplyDelete
  18. well technically it is only 2 repeats and then it is back

    ReplyDelete
  19. You and me both, rehab...they've run the POS car of the week idea into the ground.  Sam and Dean in a Pacer?  That is just SO wrong!  *shudder*

    1. Read the Super wiki entry and then tell me the pacer sucked... Two words: Wayne's World...

  20. I loved it, I love Garth, and I love that they lied to us about Bobby! I'm so excited but it's going to be a long Hellatus... Ahhh I can't believe they managed to keep it a secret!!

I love everyone in this bar!!!!!! ;D

    ReplyDelete
  21.  Yeah, I was just counting the actual weeks without episodes.  The 3rd is where it returns.  the 6th and 13th we'll be bobbay-less :(  That just ain't right. I'd forgotten just how much I missed that old man until he showed up in this VERY well kept secret appearance.  Then .. I felt like crying when I saw him.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I liked this one. Liked the premise of a monster that can only be seen when drunk. :) I liked how they used Garth -- he wasn't annoying this time. Liked that they mentioned Cas and Meg and then moved into the case. Liked how they figured out the mystery of the bootle and Sam and Dean getting drunk to watch the video. "Can you even get drunk anymore?" Ha!

They even managed to remain PC about the drinking having Sam take a cab and Dean drive sober and need Sam's directions to gank the monster because he couldn't see it. Loved that little touch. :)And then they turned the tables and gave us a heartfelt moment where we finally see proof that Bobby told the Reaper to go screw himself and stayed with his boys. I cheered. :) Even tho Dean couldn't see him, he knows he's there. Despite what Sam tried to convince him of, deep down, Dean can feel him. I was not expecting to see Bobby at all, so I loved the ending. All in all, a well paced, well written, well acted episode with action, humor, continuity and emotion. Well done.

    ReplyDelete
  23.  I agree with..basically.. all of this.  The kid drunk in 2 seconds after one sip of tainted OJ made me majorly roll my eyes.  I wasn't impressed with much in this episode, and thought it was 'okay, if dull'... until that last 5 minutes.  Now I keep rewinding my dvr to watch it again and again.  Seriously.. it need be said again.. BOBBAY!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Big Deal. This season has had more starts and stops than any I can remember. Every time they get a groove going they derail it with a break. DAMN you CW!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hmm mixed feelings about this one. Don't get me wrong, I really liked it but I didn't love it. There was something missing and that something was an ending to last week. I thought they would spend a few minutes addressing the fact that Sam is now Lucifer free. I'm disappointed they didn't.

As for the episode its self, Garth was fun.  I won't use great cause well, that kind of humor doesn't really grab me. That said I enjoyed it. And the ending? Well that made up for any short comings earlier on. Bobby, wow... that was totally unexpected.

All in all.. 8.5 out of 10

    ReplyDelete
  26.  We hope.  Because they've popped up hellatus at every chance so far.  What I'm afraid of is, what if they're doing this to stretch things out till they find out OFFICIALLY whether SPN will be renewed for season 8?  That way if the show gets (i hate to say or even think about this) canceled, they have a little time to wrap it up?   can rework some stuff before putting it out there?  This hellatus makes me a little nervous..

    ReplyDelete
  27. xD SPN's good to my health I'm running around and dancing and jumping all over the house since the episode ended.....I'm all sweating now....I guess I missed Bobby ;P

    ReplyDelete
  28. Great episode. I was awesome to see Bobby, didn't see that comming so soon. I wish they would bring Bobby back as Bobby and not a ghost. Liked having to be drunk to the ghost very funny. All the actors did a great job. Can't wait to see Bobby in the next episode plus the new episode lokks loke a great one. Till then have a great weekend and weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  29.  agreed.  I couldn't stand that part.  Only good thing about it was Dean's expression.  Even that just mirrored my pain.  It was even worse then the rainbows shooting out the unicorn's rear.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Garth's kinda growing on me. It was fine for a stand alone. It became awesome that one minute with Bobby! :D I was so excited I had tears in my eyes! Considering I don't cry often with this show despite how emotional I get over TV (guess I'm usually too shocked to cry with Supernatural) the fact that I got watery-eyed says something!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Really wish Spoilertv had a poll system that only let you vote once. I have a feeling it is the same two or three people who keep voting that the episode was awful

    ReplyDelete
  32. Mr. Fizzles was the point when I decided that Garth really must die.

    ReplyDelete
  33.  Its supposed to only let you vote once.  This same thing happened for the Cas episode.  Of course, there's contraversy on that as well, as to whether it's one person finding a way to get past the ip block, or something else.  Honestly, this episode wasn't amazing.  It was kind of dull for the most part, and cheesy.  (the sock puppet?  The girl who got drunk after ONE sip of vodka-tainted OJ?? (after 2 seconds no less).
Bobbay's appearance is what made it AWESOME of course.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Im honestly starting to have my doubt that so many people voted awful. There was episode that *Really* deserved an awful note and they still had 'little' (more or less) awful votes. For the Cass episode I could understand that some people didn't want him back

But for this one.....I'm really having my doubts. It was not the best eps. ever, but FAR from being the worse ever too...and with Bobby's surprise....don,t see how 50% can vote that.....

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think Dean was right when he said Garth "grows on you".. I wasn't a huge fan his first time around, but I was genuinely entertained by him tonight!

Also, GHOST BOBBY FTW!  I may have teared up a little in the brewery when Dean looked so hopeful and asked if he was there.  And it was SO good to see him back!  My heart totally broke when Dean was standing right across from him, and Bobby thought he was talking to him, but it was just the flask.. ahhhh hopefully they get to interact soon!

    ReplyDelete
  36. They seriously did an epic job of keeping this secret... they didn't even put his name in the opening credits!  I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm shocked that it's that polarized, too - I just voted and at the moment, there are 71 votes for awful and 70 for awesome.  I get that people aren't fans of Garth, but he wasn't tragically awful... and the added (SURPRISE) bonus of Bobby at the end?  I guess I'll just have to wander around and see what some of the negative reactions are... I can't believe so many thought it was awful!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Agreed - I wanted to hunt Mr. Fizzles hardcore, but Dean's face made it almost worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I got the sniffles in the brewery when Dean looked so hopeful that Bobby was there, but there were DEFINITELY tears at the end when Bobby actually appeared in the motel room.. and Dean couldn't see him!  And then he was just SO Bobby that it made things worse haha.. ahhhh my emotions!  The Impala coming back might send me into an emotional frenzy haha.. too much goodness!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I thought the same thing about the little girl - I rolled my eyes, too.  I mean, if she downed the whole glass, maybe.. but one sip?  I'm pretty sure that's not going to get anyone smashed, young as she may have been.

    ReplyDelete
  41.  Yeah.. no way it can be legit.  Doesn't matter if you hate Garth or not, there's no way over 50% of SPN fans hate Bobby, and just having that 2 minutes of him was MORE then worth a mundane episode!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yeah, I thought we'd get a little more time with Sam's Lucifer-free brain, too - Dean asked a weird question about his "custard" (really? custard?) and it was pretty much over.  I know there are still things to hunt, but come on, boys!  Lucifer isn't rattling around in Sammy's brain anymore!  Let's get a little excited about it!

fantastic bobby returns like a ghost bothering and helping the boys and dean concerns & confusion is ok

    ReplyDelete
  44. even in the last episode, there was a couple of Sam girls here and there who were still angry at Cass, couple of person here and there who didn't want to here about angels at all anymore...but mostly it was good reviews and we still saw about 50% of 'awful'....once I guess it can happen...twice in a row??...I'm really skeptical.

I'm not a computer pro but it has to be possible to make another system ''believe'' your computer changed IP right? After all there's way to use twice or more the same code of the same game without the creator knowing it. That or someone need to find another hobby than to go ask all his friends to vote awful

    ReplyDelete
  45. That's what I was thinking - even if you hated absolutely everything about it, save the last two minutes with Bobby, I don't think you'd go as far as awful.

    ReplyDelete
  46.  Great summary of my thoughts.  Sam is okey doky and that's all there is.  Even a small child wouldn't get drunk on one sip of that drink. Dean was touching when he wanted Bobby back so badly.  Sam was trying to contact Bobby and going nuts, but it was in the background where we couldn't see it, because...? Bobby's back YAY!

    ReplyDelete
  47. It does seem really strange that it happened two weeks in a row.. especially since I thought they were both pretty great episodes.  Last week's was better in my eyes, but I still think this episode was decent.

And I have no idea about the IP address stuff haha.. computer wizard I am NOT.  But these days I'm sure anything's possible!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm probably the only one who's not too thrilled to see Bobby show up again. Bobby had an epic send off and they should have left it like that, or at least waited till the final episode(s) to have him show back up again. They spent last season getting help from a supernatural being (Cas) which got kinda old and now I worry they same things gonna happen the rest of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I don't know much about computers myself, but one thing I know is every computer in the world as a ''number'', a IP'' that's unique.

So when you vote somewhere if you try to vote again with the same computer, the system will know, by the # of your computer, that this computer has already voted

    ReplyDelete
  50. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhsobbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbBobbyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyysniffffffffffffffffffffffffffcough cough sobbbbbbbbbbbbing some more thank you SPN thank you

    ReplyDelete
  51. I don't think you should worry too much about Bobby saving the world and all :) After all, all he can do so far is move a couple of things around, not like he has the power to do huge thing.

I didn't like the boys getting save all the time with Cass showing up and saving them so easily all the time either^^; that's part why I'm glad in a way Cass is where he is right now, I don't want him to have his full power back and save the day everytime again

  52. geordiegirl196731 March 2012 at 04:39

I only have one thing to say about this ep, and it trumps everything else - even the insta-drunk kid and the cringeworthy sock puppet. BOBBY IS BACK!!!

    Loved it.

Who the heck are the 'people' (or person - its probably just one idiot with a bit of tech knowledge and a very sad life) who voted 'awful'? Just ridiculous. Spoiler TV need to check what is going on there. Not the greatest ep ever but it certainly wasn't awful.

    ReplyDelete
  53. But why would any fan bother going to the trouble to cheat with multiple votes for either awesome or awful? It's just a poll and discussion that has ZERO influence on the Nielsen ratings? For the record I missed part of the episode so haven't voted yet. But unlike 7.17 I will vote.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Good summary, Sue :).

    ReplyDelete
  55. ok at 1st is was like this is going to be a safe fun ep yes I am not going to go nut. and it was good garth was funny I love the dude from that tom green movie I have the movie I just forgot the name sorry I have not seen it in a long time so and then the end and had me crying yet again holy crap BOBBY! awesome but what I do not get is do something that the boys will know that it is bobby come on there not that clueless we all ready know it bobby and they dont. I just do not get it any more and waiting for 2 weeks is ok by me I just hope it is a good ep worth waiting for.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I was thrilled to see Bobby. Garth was fun, except for that creepy puppet thing that wasn't funny at all.
But SPN better start offering some real pay-off soon. It's making me cranky.

You can only promise for so long before you have to offer something to make us happy. The last time SPN had pay-off for the suffering they put us through was the hug after Sam got his soul back. Since then it's been nothing but loss and unhappiness, and the laughter doesn't substitute (with the exception of Dean singing Air Supply in Slash Fiction which is still awesome.)

    ReplyDelete
  57. well you know it does suck but i am happy about the 2 weeks off thing the new amarican pie movie comes out next friday so want to see that and then its FRIDAY THE 13th WOO HOO! I love that day what movie should I see hmmm. and that cabin in the woods come out so thats cool for me and then on the 20th we can have our bobby back.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I don't think we should assume anytime there are a lot of "awful" votes that people are cheating. Sometimes there are episodes that some people loved or hated. Why would anyone go to so much trouble to cheat on some random poll? It's not exactly the PCAs here. I didn't care for the episode at all. The only thing I liked about it was Bobby.

    ReplyDelete
  59. ^^; exactly why I dont get it......its just weird that some REALLY awful episode didn't get half the % and episodes like this one is FULL of it two time in a row

    Someone who doesn't have anything to do except watch SPN fans go nut about that and laugh about us?^^;;;

    ReplyDelete
  60. Probably right. Maybe it's just a bunch of people have given up and started voting awful on everything.

    I voted awesome for Bobby.

Really, we'll just have to wait and see. If the votes keep being split almost even, something's up.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Damn it!  I wanted to not like it, I wanted to stay disappointed at the show, but damn it the episode was entertaining.  And Bobby!  God!  Do I miss Bobby, loved his surprise appearance, loved that he got one "idjit" and "balls" in there, loved him being there.  More Bobby please!  And let Sam and Dean see him!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I thought this episode was good but not perfect. I wished there was more discussion about Sam now being Luci-free rather than just a 10 second convo. And yeah the implausibility of the little girl being drunk within 5 seconds of taking one sip of a vodka and OJ was kinda annoying. Garth was kind of hit or miss for me. Sometimes he was funny, sometimes he was just kind of annoying filler.

However the stuff about Bobby possibly haunting them and the last five minutes of the ep definitely elevated the episode a bit. I was thrilled to see Bobby again.

However it raises a lot of questions. Why didn't he move on? Will the boys have to "hunt" him? I mean obviously at this point he's still a benevolent spirit, but would that change as time went on? Great plot twist. :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. I kinda wondered why there wasn't at least some mention of Becky Rosen Winchester. I mean, didn't she end up riding off into the sunset with Garth? And supposedly she had some natural talent as a hunter....so wouldn't she be working the case with him? And if she's off doing something else, wouldn't she at least get a mention? Two guys who've been with the same chick wouldn't work together without at least acknowledging her: "Hey, man, how's Becky doin'?" "Cool." "Cool. Say hi for me." That's all it would've taken. As her ex-husband, Sam would certainly say something about her. Kinda weird, Becky not being mentioned at all.

    ReplyDelete
  64. It was definitely corny as hell, but one thing made it worthwhile: Bobby... nuff said

    ReplyDelete
  65. Her & Sam's marriage was annulled (or were those divorce papers?) so shouldn't she just be Becky Rosen?

    ReplyDelete
  66. this was a good episode, Ghost of Bobby was a real good surprise too. as for Garth....... he's not growing on me.

    ReplyDelete
  67. pinkphoenix198531 March 2012 at 07:40

Way too much Garth in my opinion although I do like DJ Qualls...but that is SPN's formula recently--focus on the guest stars. Wasn't so surprised to see Bobby since everyone practically called it since episode 11 but it was nice that they talked about the fact that Sam did the tests even when he was going mad or just needed some sleep? I'm on the fence about that still :P

    ReplyDelete
  68. pinkphoenix198531 March 2012 at 07:44

I don't find it weird at all--like @missy said Sam and her got divorced and Dean kind of told Garth to steer clear of her. Besides, SPN's formula is not to mention things that happened if they don't have anything to do with the plot. Some SLs like Jo and Ellen's, for example, were completely ignored for two seasons before they both were brought back in S5...

    ReplyDelete
  69. Awesome! I mean the last scene itself was just...WOW! I can't believe they hid such a huge spoiler from us, I mean we all suspected Bobby's a ghost, but I never saw him just showing up here out of the blue! BOBBY!!!!! Aww, and when Dean came back there! Just looking at him! He feels Bobby's there, but they can't see him for whatever reason.
And back to the episode: Yay, Dean fighting with Samurai sword with Sam's directions and Garth! Our cute goofy Garth! Nice to see him again! "He growns on you" ;)
Anyway, brilliant episode! Love it! And one last time: BOBBYYY!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Garth finally worked for me.   Loved it.  Loved hearing Poison  (need to make sure that classic is on my iPos)

Loved the Bobby confirmation.  My hopes were up just as high as Bobby when Dean said "There you are."

Really liked the monster.   What was that a sushi restaurant?  Both those Japanese translation scenes where great.  Loved the way Dale got his revenge.

    Awesome one for me.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Mr. Fizzles freaked me the heck out.  That was the point at which any sane parent would have had Garth arrested.  And his girlfriend let's him bring out Mr. Fizzles around her twins!?!?!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Why did so many people voted for "Awful"? I like this episode! D:

    ReplyDelete
  73. Wouldn't it have been great if they showed a few scenes of Sam trying to contact Bobby? Of course it would have been great if we saw a few scenes (beyond hand squeezing) of Sam struggling with his Lucifer-is-in-my-head problem.

But now I wonder, why didn't Bobby answer Sam? Was he unable? Did Sam ever have those invisible Bobby scenes, and if so, will we EVER see them?

    ReplyDelete
  74. I suspect the vote is off.  If someone didn't find a way to technically cheat it, then they put out a twitter or facebook message urging all of their friends to vote awful or poor.  With polls that aren't being interfered with, usually a results pattern starts developing early on and holds even as more people vote.  In this case, most of the poor awful came within a hour of each other (something like 60 votes within 30 minutes), and then that was followed by a large group of poor votes.  I suspect the same was true last week.  While I wasn't watching the results as closely, I noticed that early on the episode was doing very well.  Then a couple of hours later it had almost as many awful votes as it did awesome.

I haven't watched the episode yet (other than a few scenes I caught during commercial breaks), but there are a few points that I've picked up from the comments that I could see making people hate it.

    - Lame writing.  I think Adam Glass is a very weak writer, and it sounds like this episode was no exception.

    - Light, if any, discussion on Sam being free of Lucifer.  This isn't just about Sam not hallucinating.  Sam, and everyone else, has thought that the Hell memories were going to kill him.  In TMWKTM, the part of Sam that remembered Hell told Sam that he wouldn't be able to handle it.  Sam's been doomed ever since he let Lucifer out of the cage, and suddenly he's not.  This is huge for his character!  The end of last episode was rushed, so there should have been some conversation about that in this episode.  Sam's decision to sacrifice his life got overshadowed by a funny Bobby idgit line ("Are you idgits trying to kill me?"), and his release from having a death sentence also sounds like it was overshadowed by the reappearance of Bobby and another funny idgit line.

    - Bringing Bobby back as a ghost is controversial.  It's not about not liking Bobby, but Bobby's death episode was very poignant - maybe the best episode they've had all season.  Here we are, only eight weeks later (not really long enough to miss him yet), and Bobby is back in some form.   While I'm sure there are a lot of people who just want Bobby back, the way this was handled diminishes one of the few moments of true quality that we've had this whole season.  This storyline could be redeemed if the season ends with everyone respecting the natural order (dead people need to stay dead, and ghosts need to move on), by saying goodbye to Bobby - but we'll see.

  75. Dean checking in with Meg on Castiels condition......excellent.
Sammy feeling bad for Castiels sacrifice.......that's our Sammy,
Sam and Dean on the hunt again...............just like old times.
Knowing all this time it was Bobby and BAM finally seeing him.....PRICELESS!
Anyone that chooses anything other than AWESOME cannot be watching the same show. No offense guys but c'mon this show has had it's ups and downs.......last nights was a total UP!!! I burst out crying in the freaking living room. I will add an extra thank you to SPN for giving Bobby back to us. Sam and Dean need this to happen.................because it renews their spirit. Heck this was the first time in a long time that I did not have to sit and bite my nails wondering when Sammy was going to swept back to mind hell.....or something bad like that. I was able to just sit back and enjoy the story / research / jokes / faces/ you get the picture. I was at ease once again watching my favorite show!!!!!

  77. ha, I did cry, but heck I have been known to cry with commercials....how sick is that!  lol

  79. They have used the term custard many times in the show about someones brain, so I thought it fit.

  80. I don't care if Cas is full power Cas, I just want Misha back in some character.  I have enjoyed most of them and loved Hippie Cas so much, even liked the Jimmy eps to see how he became Cas.

  81. Bobby came back! Really don't like Garth at all but he survived so good for him. Creepy episode but Bobby's back which made me cheer, and cry at the same time. Hate Hellatus but maybe my DVR will get fixed in that time and I can record the rest of the season.

Reading comments about the votes the thing that struck me is that more people are voting in general...didn't think that many actually voted in previous polls (last weeks excluded) but don't have the time to look that up.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Ummm it is like this every season.  It isn't just the CW that does this, but all the networks.

    ReplyDelete
  83. BOBBYYYYY!!!! i totally fangirled when i saw bobby at the end!! like ahhhh!!!  best part ever of the episode!!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I suspect that the boys will make the decision to send Bobby on his way so to speak and destroy the flask at some point. They understand that as much as Bobby wants to be there it will end up bad eventually. And I really don't think they (the show) can bring him back at this point. They've sort of used up all their miracles.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'm thinking it's not cheating as much as fans of other shows on at the same time voting to make Supernatural look bad. The vote only recently started getting this skewed.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I have missed Bobby since he died.  The first episode without him was long enough for me to miss him.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I could be wrong but I don't remember this many breaks in previous seasons. They had a longer one over Christmas in previous seasons but I don't remember this crap with come back for 3 shows, break for 3, come back for 2 break for 2. It's annoying as hell and makes it hard to keep a fan following.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Why would you want to stay disappointed in the show?

    ReplyDelete
  89.  Bobby's power is in his knowledge.  When he was alive he had magical books that had answers to a whole lot of information that humans couldn't possibly know.  Now that he's dead and doesn't seem to be constrained to a location (based on last week's episode in which he knew that Cas was back and that a particular hunter knew about Emmanuel), there's no limit to the knowledge he can acquire.  He can spend his days spying on Dick and feeding all of Dick's plans to Sam and Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Same here - I'd prefer it if Cass ended up human, but I just want him to stay alive this time around.  That way, even if they don't write him in as a regular in Season 8, they still have the option to bring Misha back.  And I don't think more Misha can ever be a bad thing  :)

    ReplyDelete
  91. But then why the big emotional sendoff?  It reminds me of the daytime soaps that "kill off" a character, go though a tearful mourning period of a few weeks or months, only to reveal that the character never really died.

    ReplyDelete
  92.  If Sam ever had invisible Bobby scene I doubt we will see them.  However I don't think there were any invisible Bobby scenes with Sam by himself. Bobby seems to be attached to the flask and that has been in Dean's possession. Perhaps Bobby didn't respond to the talking board because Sam was using it away from Dean and Bobby couldn't get too far from the flask.  I do hope they explore that at least.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I thought they were divorce papers, in which case she's Mrs. Becky Winchester (NOT Mrs. Samuel Winchester anymore). She may use her maiden name along with her former husband's surname if she wishes. If they were annulment papers, it's as if the marriage never existed, in which case she's Miss Becky Rosen.

But it's the point of the thing: Getting two dudes together who were both with the same chick, you'd think one of them would mention her, that's all.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I'm waiting to rewatch before I vote, however I can see why people may have voted awful.  Some people don't like Garth and although he was better this episode and I grew to like him, I can see where others might not.  The sock puppet seems to have been especially polarizing on other boards.  Also we are at the end of the season with multiple storylines hanging over our heads and they go with a comic episode that doesn't progress any of the arcs and instead gives us another arc, the Bobby ghost arc.  People may have expected and wanted a more serious episode going into another hiatus and could be reacting to that. Finally, the reason I'm not voting is my disappointment at the non-handling of Sam's sanity restoration overshadowed the episode for me.  That made me view it in a negative light.  I am expecting on rewatch to like the episode more than I did.  If others reacted that way, they may have voted awful on first reflex.

    ReplyDelete
  95.  I don't believe Garth hooked up with Becky.  He showed an interest, but Dean told him to steer clear of her.  I'm pretty sure he listened to Dean.

And as for Sam, after what Becky did to him, I can't see him asking about her. He's never really liked her, and I'm sure after their last encounter, his dislike for her has only increased.

But if a little kid had never had alcohol before and she sipped her mother's drink, its of course gonna be strong. She might not have been plastered from it, but it obv would do something to her to make her intoxicated enough to see the monster

  97. I think is the ultimate nerd in a funny sort of way. The best part of last night's episode? Bobby returns! Need I say anymore???

    ReplyDelete
  98. Well, I certainly remember this many breaks in the season. This is very similar to how it's always been.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Emotional send offs are over rated to me if I can see the character again. Bobby shouldn't have died in the first place, in my opinion. The boys had enough on their plates to make this an interesting season (if only the writers had used it).

    ReplyDelete
  100. The only issue I have is that Bobby's attached to the flask, and the way he disappeared when Dean left the room with the flask made me think he has to follow where the flask goes. Hence when Dean forgot the flask Bobby was beside it looking sad.

I don't know what to think of his help the last episode. Maybe he just remembered the other hunter or it was the last person Dean could call. It's a stretch, but the way they focus on the flask being what Bobby has attached himself to, I can't understand how it could be any other way.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Yeah, you're probably right. At least it gives a chance for a good-bye similar to John's. They might not even have to burn the flask, just tell him they'll be fine and go.

    ReplyDelete
  102. When I first heard what they were planning for this season I pictured a scenario where they would need to go on the run from the Leviathans (and maybe Crowley, some angels, and monsters, seeing where last season left off.)  They would have had to cut ties with everyone they knew because it would have been too risky for someone to know where they were.  That would have accomplished the goal of removing Bobby as a resource without killing him off, and the Leviathans actively hunting them would have added to the suspense.  It also seemed to fit better with Butch and Sundance theme that they were talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  103. That's exactly how I see it. Dean has that flask in his pocket, Bobby is attached to the flask, so he's not going to travel very far from Dean. They made a point that Sam tried to contact Bobby without Dean around -- why I have no idea. The flimsy excuse to not get his hopes up is pretty thin. But it's no wonder it didn't work. Now, if they had done it together... poof! Ghost Bobby! :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Agreed on Dean's expression.   But I can't agree on the unicorn...now that WAS epic! :D

    ReplyDelete
  105. I thought it felt like more shorter breaks this year too, but it is something that all the networks do, in order to stretch the shows into May sweeps.  Still a royal pain though.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Um, they do this every season.  All networks stretch shows out so that they end during May sweeps.  There's nothing different about that this season than any other season, so I seriously doubt there is anything to worry about.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Wow, they kept that one quiet! BOBBYYYYYYYYY!!!! xD

    ReplyDelete
  108. Yeah, I had the same thought about the flask after I put up my initial response last night.  Perhaps without the flask around, Bobby can't be around, so Sam trying to contact him wouldn't have worked.
And I totally buy the bit about Sam not wanting get Dean's hopes up.  Sam's been all  about trying to ease Dean's burden this season...keeping his own problems to himself and everything...so I can definitely see him doing that.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I don't think so.  Everyone else...and that includes Dean, who we know is pretty alcohol tolerant...had to get good and plastered before they saw the creaure.  I know the girl was little but I don't think one sip would've gotten her to that same state.  Just stretching credibility a little with that one.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I don't think keeping Bobby around as a ghost diminishes anything.  They had a big emotional send off for Dad, showing them burning his body on screen, and then he popped back up at the end of Season 2 as a spirit when the Devil's Gate was opened and that, imo, was one of the most brilliant, dramatic and touching moments of the entire series, so it didn't diminish a thing.

With Bobby it's even less so because they didn't have the big, emotional send off.  They had his final episode and intentionally left the ending up in the air, so they could go anywhere from there.

I don't have a problem with that at all, and juding by the reactions I'm seeing here, the amount of people who do seem to be in the greator minority.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Garth and Becky didn't get together at the end of S7 - Time for a Wedding.  Dean put the kibbosh on that and Garth left before the brothers did.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Garth is not growing on me either.  Considering all the people they have killed over the years, I hope Garth's number is up soon.

    ReplyDelete
  113. As I said last week...he's a spirit...and this is Supernatural.  I think by now if we've learned anything it's that spirits can pretty much do whatever they want.   So we shouldn't try to attach logical reasoning to their actions.

    ReplyDelete
  114. The marriage was annulled...as in never happened at all.  And if Sam is have as smart as the rest of us, he's blocked that freak of nature out of his memory entirely.   Why the hell would he ever want to bring her up again?

And Dean did tell Garth steer clear of her, and apparently he was wise enough to listen.   Please God, let us never have her brought up again!!!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Just a tiny detail, but...the "Bobby ghost arc" has been going on ever since the moment of Bobby's "death".   Because they never gave us his answer to the reaper, the possibility has been open and they've subtlely eluding to it, so that wasn't the introduction of a new arc but rather the continuation of an ongoing one.

    ReplyDelete
  116. No, it's not the same.  John had a few scenes leading up his death (his despondency in the hospital, his deal with YED, and his talk with Dean) and then he died suddenly at the end of the episode.  Sam and Dean had a couple of scenes dealing with his death (burning his body and fixing the Impala), and then they moved on.  John was next seen 20 episodes later for about five minutes to wrap up the YED storyline.  He didn't even speak and there was no implication that he was going to stick around for a while.

With Bobby, he had a few scenes leading to his death in the Jersey Devil episode (reminiscing with Sam and Dean about their past, having individual talks with both Sam and Dean, and then his scenes with Dick and his shooting).  He then had an entire episode focused on his life and death (there wasn't even a monster of the week case).  In the next episode, there were a couple of scenes of Sam and Dean grieving him.  We then have a scene with Sam and Jodie grieving him again in the time travel ep.  We're now looking at Bobby's ghost becoming a reoccuring character for a period of time, just eight episodes after his big death episode.  Don't get me wrong, I thought Death's Door was a great episode, but it was a sendoff episode - one that pays tribute to a beloved character who will no longer be around. The John comparison isn't even close.

  117. It tracks the IP address. When I'm at university on wifi, if I log on from a different building I get a different IP. I guess some people would exploit something like that to vote extra.
It takes the fun out of polls if people vote multiple times.  Thought the episode was awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Fun episode. May be pushing the funny one-liners a little too much.

Somebody teach Garth how to drink a beer out of a bottle, please.

Sam and Dean got the "ghost" question out in the open and are dealing with it. Good for them. Good for the fans.

Kind of confused that being the EXPERT IN LORE, Bobby couldn't grip that Dean couldn't see him.I was looking for a penny moment when Dean walked back in, myself.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I never said it was the same.   What I said was that having Bobby around as a ghost doesn't diminish his passing in the least.  Especially since they never really gave us a definitive conclusion to his passing...the whole question with the reaper was left unanswered, so there was a doubt from the very beginning.  Unlike you and a few others would like to believe, there was never anything definitive about Bobby's send off.  Death's Door was a brilliant episode and a fitting tribute to a beloved character but it was open ended...apparently for a reason.  I don't think last night's appearance of Bobby diminished things at all.

Oh and John had an entire season leading up to his death...all of Season One was ultimately a build up to it, and then In My Time Of Dying played it out brilliantly, just like Death's Door did for Bobby.  The only difference is that they didn't leave any question about whether Dad's spirit had left the building...he intentionally left to save Dean, and his coming back in the ultimate confrontation with YED was a fitting final coda to his whole storyline.  So if you're trying to say that Bobby's death was handled more definitively than John's, I'd argue just the opposite.

They both had emotional deaths and fitting send offs, but Bobby's hasn't ended yet.  He was always far too ornery to go that easily.  It's perfectly in character to have it happen this way, at least in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Expert or not, he's never actually been a spirit before so I guess there's a learning curve.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Both deaths were definitive.  The difference is that with John, the show didn't heavily play up the emotional drama around the loss, just to bring the character back in any substantial way a handful of episodes later.  This type of emotional  manipulation is a soap opera trick, and Supernatural used to be better than that. Even with Swan Song, a heavily emotional episode, viewers weren't left mourning the deaths of Bobby, Cas, and Sam long before they were made aware that the characters were back.  My opinion may not be the most popular on this board, but it's my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Ghost Bobby!! A lot better than I expected.

If it weren't for the Cas mention in the beginning and of course Bobby's ghost rumor being confirmed, it would have blowed completely. But the fact that it still tied in with important plot developments saved this episode.

    ReplyDelete
  123. First let me just say:  B O B B Y ! ! !

Though I wasn't really all that surprised that Bobby was a ghost...... they HAVE been giving clues to it!  I am so happy he's back- even if it's just in SPIRIT these days!  Maybe they can make him corporeal !!    Now if we can just get Cas sane again, all will be right !

Ohhhhh how I've missed hearing Bobby say:  ID'JUTS !

    ReplyDelete
  124. I was just using what the show is hinting at. Not using my logic. I think they're trying to say Bobby is attached to the flask. That is all.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Were there really this many breaks before?  I remember that there was a break in December/January, then we'd get 4 episodes or so, then another break before the last 8-10 episodes of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I liked it too!  It was fun with an incredible, emotional ending.  I was laughing and then suddenly crying.

    ReplyDelete
  127. You are not alone-- I did this too.  Yeah Bobby!

    ReplyDelete
  128.  Hah, I was wondering about that, and this explains it perfectly. Sam was always trying the EMF and 'talking board' (when the hell did they switch from just calling it ouji board?  Did they get sued by whoever makes those boards? Lol), Dean wasn't around.  and he almost always carries that flask around with him.  So poor bobby's being whipped around by dean like a puppy on a leash.  I can more then understand poor Bobby's frustrations :( His expression when Dean left that flask in the hotel was horribly sad.  I can't imagine what Bobby must feel every time Dean forgets that flask somewhere, wondering if he's going to remember to come back for it..

    ReplyDelete
  129. You can change your IP address, but I'm pretty geeky and I don't know how to do it.  I liked this episode.  I personally thought the sock puppet was deliberately creepy-- I don't think we were supposed to like it.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I agree with you-- Death's Door (an amazing ep IMHO) left Bobby's choice (to either go with the Reaper or not) up in the air.  This isn't a "soap opera trick"-- it was quite deliberate-- we knew we would see him again in some way, b/c we'd eventually have to learn what he chose (and now we know).

    ReplyDelete
  131. I LOVED Slash Fiction.  And the hug--- I had to wait half a damn season for that hug!

    ReplyDelete
  132. Me either!  I think the sock-puppet was deliberately creepy, right?  I mean, tell me they did that on purpose. . . I wish they'd bring back Crowley (if they are going to focus on people who are not Dean and not Sam).  I really, really like Crowley, which probably says something about me. . .

    ReplyDelete
  133. No show is perfect, but I still enjoy SPN more than any other show on TV (and I am really, really geeky and watch a LOT of TV).  I think that it appeals to interesting/intelligent/thoughtful people, who also tend to be critical b/c they expect perfection.  This wasn't my favorite episode ever, but then I don't really have ONE that I can point to as a favorite.  This was fun and the ending was awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I think Season 1 was the same than this year in the number of break, more or less

And in total, the number of weeks we're waiting from septembre to may is always the same (mre or less 1 or 2 weeks). the others time it was mostly 2 months break in the winter, over one month break in the spring. Now we have shorter breaks, but more...but its still the same waiting overall

    ReplyDelete
  135. I guess wanted to stay disappointed is the wrong thing to say.  It's more I'm tired of hoping that the show would be good to me only to be disappointed (which I have been for every episode since it came back after Death's Door).

    ReplyDelete
  136. I think I like fewer breaks even if they're longer-- otherwise, it feels like we just got going, and now we are in hellatus mode again. . .

    ReplyDelete
  137. I get that they left Bobby's choice to stay behind as a ghost open, but most of the people on this board are acting like this is a good thing.  How can this possibly end well?  The mythology is clear:

From In My Time of Dying -

Tessa: Well, like you said. There's always a choice. I can't make you come with
me. But you're not getting back in your body. And that's just facts.
So yes, you can stay. You'll stay here for years. Disembodied, scared,
and over the decades it'll probably drive you mad. Maybe you'll even get
    violent.

    Dean: What are you saying?

Tessa:  Dean. How do you think angry spirits are born? They can't let go and
they can't move on. And you're about to become one. The same thing you
    hunt.

    From Death's Door -

Rufus: Yeah, yeah, you're thinking you can help those boys. But how many
spirits you meet in their right mind? Some hunter's gonna cut you down.

    From Born-Again Identity -

Marin: At first it's like... I knew I was crazy,
but... I didn't really care. I did miss him. But then... he started
saying he was lonely. And he started to get mad. And one day he started
yelling, and I tried to run but the door was locked. And when I turned
around, the whole room was on fire. I barely got out.

I think Sam and Dean will help Bobby cross over before the season's out.  I noticed that Bobby in this episode and the preview for next is already starting to look lonely and scared.  But if I'm wrong - if after writing a full episode that deals with Bobby coming to terms with his pain, losing his memories, Sam thanking him and saying goodbye, and Dean dealing with his loss in his own way, and finally dying, and several episodes of Sam and Dean dealing with their grief - if after all of that, and the mythology that points to the fact that this can't end well, they turn Bobby into a reoccurring ghost and everything works out fine, then this will be an awful solution in terms of staying true to the story.

    ReplyDelete
  138. No...there's always a break from March-April. Sometimes there's even on in April-May (but not usually on the CW)

    ReplyDelete
  139. MR. FIZZLES MUST DIE.
I was screaming horrible things at my television.

If I didn't have GhostBobby pop in for an idgit, all bets would've been off after that excruciating sock puppet.

    ReplyDelete
  140. It started out like a regular great MOTW eppy with some nice personal emotional stuff mixed in there and a funny guest star (I like Garth.... A LOT!) so I was gonna give it a great.
However it turned into so much more in those last few minutes. I was crying so hard! BOBBY!!!!!
That alone qualified the episode as Awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  141. I agree!  I will miss Bobby completely (I already do), but I don't want recurring ghost-Bobby either.  Like you, I don't think this situation can end well-- I hope they find a solution that fits with the mythology, such as sending him on his way-- as much as that makes me sad.  I just didn't have a problem with him sticking around, and I don't think it was soap-opera-ish at all.  I thought it was the opposite of what soaps do (and I say this as someone who has been watching the damn things since I was 5)-- soaps pretend someone is dead and then bring them back using a bunch of ridiculous plot devices.  SPN always left the door open for Bobby to return, and it works given the mythology of the show.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Haha about the soaps. My mom used to watch Days of Our Lives, and I have a memory of watching it in the crib.

I guess I'm talking about two different issues here. Getting back to the soap comment, I originally said this would be ok if he moves on by the end of the season, BUT, if the plan is to keep him around as a ghost long-term, then they shouldn't have played up the emotional goodbye so heavily. They played the emotion card heavier than with any other death so far, and if Bobby isn't really going anywhere - then this death is meaningless.

Death is about loss, separation, acceptance of something painful. If Bobby cheats this by remaining a ghost, all of the emotion around his loss would have been just a cheap device to get people engaged in the show. Not the quality I would expect.

  145. While I don't mind a fun episode now and then ( very now and then! ) I thought this season was going to be the boys on their own against everything that evil could throw at them, having nothing but themselves and their own skills to depend on.

I imagined them having to end up camping out in a tent somewhere, always having the Leviathans going after them, but always managing to get away by the skin of their teeth.

It hasn't been like that; they have always had a helping hand from someone or another, and the episodes have concentrated more on minor things and monsters of the week; I will gloss over Becky!

Then we get poor Sam's suffering for nearly a year, resolved in a completely predictable, snap of the finngers, manner. Such inventiveness!

The only thing that they really took away permanently ( up till now anyway ), that I miss is the Impala, possibly the one object that they could have quite happily kept as she is the third brother to the Winchesters

    .
I don't understand the problem with Garth as many say that Sam and Dean need more regulars to carry the show; something I do not agree with, because for me they carry the show perfectly on their own, especially when the writers let them interact together on screen, and don't send them off on different cases.

As for Bobby being a ghost, I can live with that, for a short while anyway, because let's be honest, a ghost Bobby can give them tons more help than the real Bobby ever could, info wise anyway.

However, I don't like it when they bring people back from the dead even if it is a supernatural show.
The first couple of times they did it was interesting and  fresh, but the more that come back the more boring it becomes. "Oh, yes, another one back from the dead. Yawn!"

The writers have two charismatic and still enthusiastic lead actors, a great premise show-wise, and a dedicated troupe; I just hope that they can utilise these advantages to the full in future.

  146. This episode  was okay  and thats what I  voted..

    ReplyDelete
  147. I agree with part of this.  I also went into the season with the expectation that Sam and Dean would be forced to go on the run alone (not with Bobby) and would have the Leviathans nipping at their heels.  While in general I like having a bigger supporting cast of characters who are not annoying (unlike Frank, Garth, and Becky), I'll admit that the main storyline last season kind of got away from Sam and Dean, and instead focused on Cas, Crowley, Death, Raphael, and other beings who exist on a completely different level.

Getting back to a strong focus on Sam and Dean would have been welcome, maybe just for the season.  Just long enough to refocus the series on Sam and Dean and give us a break from the awesome, but scene-stealing guests that we've had the last few seasons. This didn't turn out as I had expected.  The focus was shifted from Cas to Bobby, so that Bobby had the biggest storyline this year.  He was basically the lead on the Leviathan investigation the first half, he had a romance storyline, several episodes dedicated to his death and mourning, and is now back as a ghost - a storyline which I'm sure will take a prominent role as the season concludes.  Sam and Dean's relationship doesn't really feel like it moved forward at all, and I can only think of a couple of episodes that had strong brother moments in them.  And I won't even get into what I think about the Sam and Dean personal storylines.  I've said enough on those already.

  149. The only good thing about this episode: Garth. I love the character. He's so funny. Now, on the opposite, we had an episode with Sam working in 100%, as if nothing had happened - Hallucinations, Lucifer, CrazySam and so on.... Sam Winchester is only the plot device character of the show. Everyone and everything seems to evolve around Dean's character, everyone prefers Dean over Sam, every guest star and new character has always Dean as the "best friend" whereas Sam remains the most lonely fictional character on TV. Dean and Sam has no friends? I think it's more: Sam has no friends, except Dean. This season is being the most disorganized season: there are no sequences of the stories, only loose ends; something its started, its abandoned later with no sense or any kind of explanation - Sam and his hallucinations (7x01 and 7x02 and then later in 7x16 and 7x17) with the ridiculous story that Sam was "fine" all the time, keeping us in the dark about this. I feel cheated, as a Sam fan. I hate the way they are dealing with Sam's character.Oh and off course that Bobby did not appear to Sam when he tried to contact with him. No one likes Sam, even the character of the show themselves are written to not give a sh** about Sam. Off course Bobby only had to show to his favorite son...Nice......................................

    ReplyDelete
  150. I don't get your ''Bobby hate Sam cause he didn't appear to him''.....Bobby's attached to the flask and Dean has the flask in his pocket and he wasn't around when Sam tried to contact him. Every time something happened with Bobby, it was cause the flask was around and Sam never carried the flask

and at the end of the episode, Bobby didn't ''only appear to his favorite son'', looked like he was there the whole scene, but he just can't make himself appear to the boys yet I guess he's not a strong enough ghost yet

  151.  Sam: So, what, you -- you like him better or something?

Bobby: Dean and I do share a more profound bond - and liver damage.

Dean: Bobby, look, if Sam calls, you answer. Okay? You flicker your ass out here ... Just because we have some sort of a --
    a bond or whatever...

Bobby: You think I came because you called? I came because of this. [ Points to the flask ]

Dean: Oh, well, it's nice to know what matters.

Bobby: It does help one to focus. [ Grabs the flask and takes a swig ]

    ReplyDelete
  152. The flask is just a excuse, an object. Bobby should love both in the same way, not only appear to Dean just because he has the flask. This doesn't work for me ;)

    ReplyDelete
  153. My favourite line was Sam's "Can you even get drunk anymore? It's kind of like drinking a vitamin for you" . I dont really mind that Dean drinks all the time...we don't see him do anything particularly irresponsible and as far as he's concerned he won't live long enough for it to cause much liver damage anyway. Of course we all hope they live long lives and save the world! Enjoyed the episode, it reminded me of the supernatural from the first couple seasons, just a case no apocalypse or angels and demons. Loved the ending!

    ReplyDelete
  154. And I think you're jumping to a pretty conclusion assuming that's what they're going to do.  We don't know for sure and if Sera Gamble has proven anything in the last season and a half it's that she's pretty damn good at surprising us.

Those of us who have been happy about Bobby being around never said we wanted him around permanently as a ghost.  We're all well aware of the mythology and know that it can't end well, which is why I'm convinced the boys are eventually going to do the right thing and help Bobby complete his passing.

As emotional as At Death's Door was, the one thing it lacked was a real onscreen goodbye from the guys, so I think they're going to get that when they finally help Bobby's spirit to pass on.  Possibly by destroying the flask, possibly some other way, like they did for the ghost in Roadkill.  And for me at least, that would be a fitting farewell for Bobby.

    ReplyDelete
  155. I meant people trying to figure out how Bobby knows things now that he's a spirit.  The point is, he's a spirit, so there's no telling what he may or may not know.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Um, I take it that was your attempt to be sarcastic?   The fact of the matter is, the flask is keeping Bobby there and Dean's had the flask.  Bobby's spirit was still in the motel room because Dean left the flask there.  And with all due respect to the Sam fanatics...Bobby didn't actually appear to Dean because Dean couldn't see him.  So the whole favoritism thing is a real stretch.

And while I agree that this season has felt choppy and disconnected, I don't get why anyone is questioning the boys being stripped of everything they had.  You don't think that's happened?  What the hell else could they possibly lose short of their clothes (now that wouldn't be a bad idea...ahem).

And I'm sorry, but I find it funny that someone who is pointing out parts of the mythology to me in another thread doesn't get the importance of the Impala...arguably one of the most siginficant parts of the Impala since day one of Season One.  No, no other car would be the same.  The finale of Season Five pretty much spelled out the Impala's significance if it hadn't been blatantly apparent already.

I do agree with your comment above, though, that it seems silly that the Impala would make Sam and Dean so much more memorable from the newscasts.  To me that's just ridiculous and I never saw the need to divest themselves of her.   We get the whole "Sam and Dean against the world" idea...no need to leave Baby out of it.  As Dean said, nobody puts baby in a corner! :D

    ReplyDelete
  157. Must say something about me too, then, because I LOVE Crowley!   I really wish they'd go back to Crowley or even Meg as the main villain...I've just never liked the Leviathans, I think the demons are much more effective.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Funny. LOL at that:
"Bobby: Dean and I do share a more profound bond - and liver damage"

    :-D

    ReplyDelete
  159.  Would love to see Crowley again too. He's a smart and sarcastic demon. I hope he won't be killed by the end of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Humor, not sarcasm.  I can still find humor in this.  While I don't really think Bobby not responding to Sam means anything, I did note when I was watching the episode the parallel to Cas not responding to Sam last season.

"So the whole favoritism thing is a real stretch."
    Uhmm, not really.

Bobby:  Why am I telling you? Maybe 'cause you're my favorite. Although, Sam's a better hunter. Lately, anyway.

    But anyway, moving on ....

I get the symbolism of the Impala.  It represents family.  Dean got it from John, just like he got his leather jacket and his taste in music, and the Impala reminds Sam of John and Dean.  I just don't flip out if it's not in an episode.

    ReplyDelete
  161. I've never bought into the favoritisim stuff and I think the whole point of At Death's Door was showing that Bobby loved both of "his" boys.  Just because they showed him having a game of catch with Dean doesn't mean he didn't love Sam...given Dean's age in that scene, Sam would've been too little for that, that's all.   So yeah, I do think the favoritism claims are a stretch, particulary in connection with Bobby's spirit.  In fact, he hasn't appeared to either brother...Dean never saw him, and he wasn't there because he was trying to appear to Dean, he was there because of the flask.  Had it been Sam who ran back in to get it, the ending would still have been the same.

As for the Impala...you're the one who said they could be in any car and it wouldn't matter.  I begi to differ...BIG time...on that one.

    ReplyDelete
  162. we had 7 seasons of ''The ghosts can't leave the place(building/town) where they die or stay attach to the object that's keeping them there, except if they're doing some ghost posession

You execpted the whole rules of the SPN univers to get throw away, without any explanation, just because its Bobby? Bobby's ghost, with a flask that surely has full of DNA on it. He can't go far from it. If the flask was away when Sam called...too bad

    ReplyDelete
  163. I agree. I don't really think Dean is Bobby's favorite. He loved both of the boys. I think Bobby reached out more to Dean as a child because Sam had Dean to look after him while Dean always had the responsibility of looking after Sam on his shoulders. So I think Bobby maybe connected with him a bit more at times because he wanted to take that weight off his shoulders and felt he didn't need to worry as much abouts Sam. But I don't think that means Dean is really his favorite. And this is coming from a Samgirl.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I didn't say the car doesn't matter, I said I wouldn't notice what car they were driving if people weren't always bringing it up.  So what if the car is not the most important part of the show to me?  It's not like I'm arguing to get rid of it.

    ReplyDelete
  165. I think Bobby wasn't much more to them growing up than a family friend and occasional babysitter.  He cared about them but didn't get really close to them until after John died.  I think he was closer to Dean than Sam because they meshed more personality-wise and because Bobby was Dean's confidant during the Ruby period.  The fact that Dean is Bobby's and Cas's favorite isn't really the issue. The issue is that Sam hasn't had equivalent non-demon relationships to what Dean has had (factoring in Lisa and Ben in here too), really since Jessica.  Dean can have his friends, but Sam needs some too.

    ReplyDelete
  166.  I agree about what you and ally7 said about the flask. I think
Bobby is trying to contact the boys, not Dean only. In his memories just
before his death, Dean and Sam were both present.

    I always had
the feeling that, even if bobby love both of them, Dean and Bobby had a
closer connection than Sam and Bobby. I don't see it as favoritism. Dean
personality is still crippled by his daddy issues, I think Bobby gave
each brother the love he thought they needed.

    It seems to me
that the writers were focusing more on Dean reaction about Bobby death
and the fact that he was a ghost. As Sam seems to deal better with it than his brother, It made sense that the writers would focus on Dean, but I could see why some fans complain about that.

The boys getting stripped at some point would be an ... interesting development ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  167. I think your point about the daddy issues is important.  After John died, Dean went through a period of examining his feelings about John, and it makes sense that he had a need to develop a new fatherly relationship with someone who was less critical. Sam was just in a different place at that point.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Obviously you're entitled to your opinion.  It's just that you made such a big deal of pointing out key parts of the mythology to me earlier and here you are dismissing what has been one of the biggest parts of that mythology.   You can't have it both ways...if you want people to stay true to the mythology, then you have to at least admit the Impala's status here.  It's not just a car that is easily interchangable with any other.  For Sam and Dean, that particular car is home...the only home they've ever had.  It's not just about Dean getting it from Dad, the point of the Season 5 finale is that it's the physical embodiment of home and family, the very characteristics that have allowed Sam and Dean to overcome their biggest supernatural foes.

Dean once told Sam "We keep each other human."   Well the Impala keeps them both human...and in this show, humanity has always been the driving force...pun intended.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Then you obviously missed the entire point of At Death's Door.   It was made pretty clear that Bobby thought of the boys as his own children...the children he never got to have with his wife.  And I think the scene with him playing ball with Dean was simply to show that that connection did indeed start when they were little, long before John died.

And part of the deal with Sam is that from the time YED "marked" him as a baby, his every move was being directed by the demons...which is why he was never really able to make friends.  They didn't want him having that kind of connection to anyone because it would draw him away from them.  The only reason they allowed him the relationship with Jess is so they could then rip her away from him and reignite his fire for hunting.  And ever since losing her, he actively avoided getting close to anyone else...in "Providence", he told Sarah (who he was allowed to get close to, btw) that he was afraid of getting close to anyone because when he did, they died.

Thus, his only real friend was Dean...the one person who keeps him human.  But I think Bobby cared for him just as much as he did for Dean...he was the closest thing to family Sam had beside Dean and Dad.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Couldn't put it better myself...Dean's father issues is a very good point.  I completely understand people have a problem with the writers focusing more on Dean than Sam, I just don't agree about the favoritism issue with Bobby...I just don't see it.   Did he have a different relationship with each of them?  Absolutely.  Actually, I love how you put it...he gave them each the love he thought they needed.  That was perfect!

    ReplyDelete
  171. So if the car is their "embodiment of home and family," what do you make of Dean punching Sam in The Girl Next Door and telling him, "New rule. You steal my baby, you get punched."

Is he saying he doesn't want Sam to have a home and family?

    ReplyDelete
  172. I don't mind the Leviathans, mostly because Dick reminds me of Tim Pawlenty and Paul Ryan combined (I am very political and don't like either of those guys very much, so them as villains works for me).  But I totally prefer Crowley b/c he is just FUN-- I knew he wasn't dead after 6.10 and I want him back.  I also agree with you that Levis have not been used as effectively as they could have been.

    ReplyDelete
  173. I got the point of Death's Door.  The question is when did this relationship intensify to the point where he thought of them as "his boys."  I said I thought Bobby cared for them when they were boys and that he occasionally babysat for them.  Nothing in Death's Door contradicts my opinion.  My opinion is more consistent with their almost nonexistent relationship with Bobby for most of season one.  How often did we see them lean on Bobby when their father was missing, or when Dean was dying in Faith?

    ReplyDelete
  174. I also think part of what they were showing in Death's Door is that Bobby chose to stay with the boys, even though he (like us) knew it wouldn't end well.  It wasn't just about his death but about that choice.

    ReplyDelete
  175. I think Crowley will be back - I can see him checking up on things every now and then, keeping his demons in line.  I thought maybe he'd meet up with Meg to check in on Castiel in the mental hospital.  That betrayal with the souls probably stings a little haha..

I really hope he DOES come back - he's always entertaining, and oh so snarky.. I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  176. He's always been my favorite demon  :)  How weird does THAT sentence sound?  But yeah.. I hope he sticks around - I love his snark!

    ReplyDelete
  177. I think he will too!  I can't wait. . .

    ReplyDelete
  178. I pictured the same thing in regard to the Leviathans - I kind of pictured a Harry Potter 7 situation, honestly haha.. on the run, camping out, focused on the mission at hand.  I never expected a season-long sort of arc that brought the big bad in every now and then, while throwing filler episodes at us most of the time.  Disappointing, really - but I love these boys, and I'll stick with them until the end!

I can see your point about characters being resurrected, too - it's not really a shocker anymore, and you can pretty much expect any one-time guest star to appear again, in whatever capacity.  I guess I shouldn't be complaining about the most recent two, since I love Misha and Jim, but coming back from the dead has definitely lost its shock factor.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Ha.. I enjoyed this immensely  :)  And it's amazing how well the parallel actually works haha

    ReplyDelete
  180. That has more to do with the writing than the actual story I think. The writers have said that Bobby was intended to only be a character for that one episode but they liked him so they decided to develop the relationship more and it grew from there. In fact they actually wanted to bring back Missouri for that episode but the actress was unavailable so they created a new character instead.

    ReplyDelete
  181. I  am not really a Bobby person but they did have Bobby say what he said in the truth episode.I  would rather Sam had his own relationships than abit of one .

    ReplyDelete
  182.  Yeah, but season 1 is part of the story.  While I'll forgive small continuity inconsistencies such as the way they wrote demons or ghosts, in season 1 they set up the framework of the their family structure and the idea that the three of them (John, Sam, and Dean) were very much alone.  It played into the development of their personalities and set up what was to come (that they would sacrifice everything for each other).

I have a problem with having Bobby state in season 7 that he "raised" Sam and Dean.  It's not true to the story.  Bobby was there with Sam and Dean during Sam's dying, the showdown with YED, Lilith and Dean's dying, and the Apocalyspe.  Why is that, and what we've seen of their relationship, not enough?  Why do they need to at this point insert Bobby into their childhoods as a significant figure when it contradicts the foundation of this show?

    ReplyDelete
  183. Right you are and that is one of the reasons I cry so hard in Swan Song, the main reason Sam was able to fight Luci was because of all the memories he had with Baby and Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  184.  Wow, that is lame..they are brothers, brothers fight.  I know I have 3 sons.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Exactly.  It's like they suddenly realized that they've been building up all of the relationships around Dean, so rather than fix it by creating some relationships for Sam, they decided to instead pretend that Sam has had relationships with all of these people too.  They have Sam say that Cas is like a brother to him and that he would die for him, and that Bobby is like a father to Sam, even though a father/son relationship between Bobby and Sam developing after Jon's death never made as much sense as it does for Bobby and Dean.  Sam forgave John after John died, so unlike Dean, Sam didn't still have a lot of daddy issues to work through. There's also the point that Sam had Dean as a protector and parental figure growing up - so how many dads does Sam need?  Since they never developed Bobby and Sam's relationship much on screen, they decide that their relationship goes back much further to their childhood - and that's why it was never seen.

    ReplyDelete
  186.  I love Crowley, but my favorite/scary demon is the last Alastair..he was awesome scary.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Swan Song aside the car is Deans it has been underlined more than once by the show and most of the fandom see it has Deans its his baby .I  am not saying Sam doesnt have a connection as Swan Song proved by it isnt his car anymore than the leather jacket Dean wore .

    ReplyDelete
  188. The guest star and even recurring character affections have always leaned more towards Dean than Sam. Dean gets the girls, the hunters, the angels, the happy home for a year, the flirting. Part of that I think is that Sam kept the "hunting" part of this life at arm's length for awhile, so he didn't bond easily with those characters, he's not chasing tail like Dean, and he's a more reserved guy. But there has always been an imbalance in people coming on and having an affinity for Dean over Sam.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Sam wasn't able to fight Lucifer because of memories of the car.  It was memories of family - Dean mostly - which were triggered by seeing the car.  The car is important without a doubt, but Deangirl's insistence that if you're not up in arms every week the Impala is garaged, then you're not getting the show, is a little over the top.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Actually, in the first couple of seasons Sam was the one who connected with people more than Dean. Whereas Dean often came across too strong, Sam could get them to open up with a puppy dog look.  Sam started to shut himself off more and more as he got deeper in the monster/Lucifer's vessel role.  The interesting thing to watch now will be whether the writers start having Sam develop deeper connections with people again now that his Lucifer destiny is no longer a factor.  There are really no excuses for the imbalance with relationships anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  191. Well Sam got Ruby! She went straight for him! Yellow-eyes too! And the other kids with demon blood in their system. Also that werewolf chick, and the girl with the haunted painting back in Season 1.

Sam had friends from college too. And Sam was John's favorite. Even if they fought all the time, it just showed he cared more about Sam than Dean, who he pretty much ignored/used.

A lot of people love Sam. The problem is Sam is an independent guy, while Dean was more of the sacrificial guy for family's sake and that, I feel, makes him more love-able to the fans.

But Sam still has plenty of fans, like you.

And I don't think Bobby appeared to Dean and not to Sam. For one, he didn't appear period. Two, he was attached to the flask that Dean has. Three, we don't know why he didn't communicate to Sam when he tried, yet. And Four, Yes it was already determined back in the day Dean is Bobby's favorite. And it doesn't help that Sam, despite souless, tried to kill him, so there's still that. But there was that scene with Bobby and Sam in the van before Bobby got shot, where they talked like family.

I think it also has a lot to do with the fact that Sam seems very independent and capable of taking care of himself, while Dean isn't.

Bobby loves Sam. Sam is loved. The show just doesn't smother him with it.

    ReplyDelete
  192. Sam isn't the flirty type. Dean is. Sam has sort of been against relationships since Jess, and then never really did the whole one night stand thing. But he has had girls come on to him and he has reciprocated.

Just not for the last few Seasons, probably because of the Ruby thing.

    ReplyDelete
  193. I didn't like Garth the first time he appeared, he seemed useless and pointless addition to the episode.

But I liked him in this episode. It makes me wonder...why did he get into hunting?

    ReplyDelete
  194. I hated this episode. I hated every scene with Garth in it. He is much worse than Becky.

I've lost a lot of respect for Dean. I can't believe he knowingly left
Castiel in a mental ward with Meg as his babysitter. Dean is actually
depending on a Demon to be honest with him regarding Castiel's mental
state??? What the heck?? What the heck has Meg ever done for the
Winchesters? Other than manipulate Sam, beat them up, try to kill their
dad, work with the YED, kill Jo and Ellen, and side with Lucifer????
Why would he trust her even one ounce??? The enemy of my enemy? Why
would Crowley be a bigger enemy?? What has Crowley done?? Let's see: Gave them
the colt, turn against his own to help them find Death, work with them
to stop the Apocalypse, gave Bobby back his legs, protect them from
demons so thy can stop the Levi's. Dean and Sam need a wake up call
when it comes to dealing with Meg. Idjits.

The only saving grace was seeing Bobby at the end. I had to chuckle
    when he said Balls.

Awful episode with a touching ending. The ending would be the only part I'd want to ever watch again from this episode.

    Worst SPN episode ever!

    ReplyDelete
  195. Yeah, he was definitely the creepiest, I'll give him that.  Crowley, strangely enough, just has a quality about him that makes me want to give him a hug haha... he's supposed to be evil and all, but you can't help but like him  :)

    ReplyDelete
  196.  "And Sam was John's favorite. Even if they fought all the time, it just
showed he cared more about Sam than Dean, who he pretty much
    ignored/used."

It was Dean's perception that John loved Sam more than Dean. That was never established as fact.  In fact, when we saw John he appeared to care about both equally.  He also told Dean he was proud of him before he died, and when he came back as a ghost, he nodded his approval to Dean. It's my theory that Dean developed the perception that John loved Sam more than Dean mostly because John was more protective of Sam because of what YED had done to Sam as a baby.  Dean would have no way of knowing all this, so as a child he misinterpreted it as Sam being John's favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  197. What I want to know is why Meg and Dean seem to be assuming that Cas would help Meg overthrow Crowley as King of Hell when Meg has always been pro-Lucifer, whereas Crowley is committed to keeping Lucifer in the cage.

    ReplyDelete
  198. I don't know. I kind of agree with Dean's perception then. I think John really did take Dean for granted and there was the change at the end because John finally realized this too and that's why he apologized to him and sacrificed his life for him. He only showed he actually appreciated Dean right before he died and then after.

I think John did love Dean. But I do think he expressed it (via protectiveness, anger, etc) towards Sam more than Dean and it could have because Sam was younger (remember John didn't know YED did anything to Sam till later), but still there was a disbalance and regardless, John SHOWED he cared more about Sam than Dean except only at the end.
