I loved it! Poor Sam. I loved seeing his gradual meltdown, although I had hoped we'd see it more in the last few minutes.
Noooooo, Frank. Please don't be dead!
Also, I love "Bad Moon Rising", but I'm still traumatized by the last time! And Sam nearly had another semi accident! WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS? WHYYYYYYYYYYYY?
Wow.That was incredible. Love the taking the world over with business angle. Leviathans have dissenters in their ranks?? I was expecting a stand alone and this fits in nicely.
Synopsis and pictures about the shoes and talking about Dean...and everyone freaked out about having a Dean's episode??? Another time where the promos have been misleading......and the first thing we'll know is starting again in 2 seconds with the new promo everyone will judge like crazy ^^;;
:( and aawwww....Frank....I loved him!
ooohh...and...DAFUQ about the Levis?! 0_o What are they up to??? They want to kill everyone or save everyone???
The cursed objects portion of the episode was pretty good, but the leviathan portion just about put me to sleep. So the two averaged out to give me a thoroughly "Okay" episode. (Though I did love that we got Bad Moon Rising again.)
The boys are back! Finally! And what a nice episode to welcome them back. It started off with a GREAT EWWW factor.. I mean dancing her feet off? Just Gross. And then, the woman with the tea kettle... have to admit, I flinched and closed my eyes.
Sam not sleeping broke my heart. I had hoped for a bit more brotherly concern from Dean but that's ok. There was some and that's what counts. It was an interesting twist with the Leviathans too. Curing Cancer? My theory is they cure all the worlds diseases then people don't die. People don't die there are more for them to eat. Their own personal World grocery store so to speak.
I was surprised at the end. Didn't see Frank buying it coming. If he is dead. And I thought Sam would go bonkers at the end and leave us hanging.
All in all I loved it. Next week is not going to be easy....
And Meg is back. Did she save Cas? She seemed to have a thing for him.
That was exactly my reaction too. I liked the ballerinas and the victrola. It reminded me of Stephen King for some reason. Needful Things maybe? The Leviathans always seem to put me to sleep. Watching Sam yawning wasn't helping.
Was anyone else sort of angry they used the song Bad Moon Rising, when it marked one of the most iconic moments in SPN - the Semi/Impala crash? I guess I'm a purist and they shouldn't use it for a minor filler episode.
I was surprised how sad I was that Frank is probably killed. I love the guy, and the actor playing him is awesome.
I enjoyed it ok, and was glad it became more about the Leviathan. Those 2 were funny to watch. Loved the brothers, Sam's degeneration and Dean's concern. I don't believe the cancer cure thing. I keep getting the vibe the writers are as in the dark as Sam and Dean, about the grand Levi plan. pfft
Well...not really sure how I feel about this one. Wasn't exactly what I was expecting, which isn't to say it wasn't good...it actually was. I just didn't see the Leviathan twist coming. But then that's par for the course with the Leviathans. They've been confusing all season long. At any rate...loved the first half of the episode, with the cursed objects. Felt like an old school case, complete with some total gross out moments and a few good lines. But as soon as they were locking up the last object and we still had half an episode left, you knew there was more to come. Which led us to the second half with the Leviathans. As I said, they're really frustrating the hell out of me...can't get my head around them as bad guys. But the brilliant thing is that's exactly where the guys are with them, so I'm assuming it was intentional on Sera and the writers' part to leave the audience in the same position. Kudos Sera! Can't figure out exactly what Dick is up to, short of setting up a made to order smorgasboard for himself. Guess we'll find out soon enough. I didn't see the ending coming...figured they'd end by setting off Sam's breakdown somehow...but that was cool too. I'm thinking, blood notwithstanding, we may not have seen the last of Frank yet. So bottom line...this was a head scratcher, but a good one. Not really looking forward to next week, at least where Sam's concerned, but I'm intrigued to see how it all pans out with Cas. This show always leaves you thinking...no wonder we love it so much! I'm giving this one a 9 out of 10...a tiny point off for leaving me STILL confused.
I didn't mind the Bad Moon Rising. I think it was a hint that things are going to go down hill from here. No Bobby, no Frank.. although I'm not completely sold he's dead. We'll see. I think the writers know exactly what they are doing.. the proof is in the fact fans are upset cause they can't figure it out. :)
Of course...couldn't remember when the last time they played Bad Moon was...the accident! Geeze, you're right, that was freaky bringing it back there...but a great classic SPN touch!
I don't think the fear was that Dean would be the focus in the MOTW story. It was that Sam's breakdown wouldn't be satisfactorily built up, and it wasn't. I've looked worse during finals when I was in school.
just because we don't know about the Levis plan it mean that the writers don't know it ? They're allow to know things and don't tell us. That doesn't mean anything
If people die for other reasons, they won't be around for Frank and co. to eat...as was pointed out to me while I was watching this one. Makes sense...Frank's setting up a food source for himself.
I thought using Bad Moon was a nice twist. As for the Leviathan...either the writers are just as much in the dark as Sam and Dean or they are intentionally leaving us in the dark with the guys, which is really pretty clever. Time will tell.
I was expecting more too for Sammy's breakdown :( I guess we'll wait next week to see if we can have more than we think :)
But at least we didn't see more character more than the other, it was balanced, while we saw a lot of comments all week (if not all month) long about how it will only be about Dean and Dean would get a lot more screentime
Forgetting when that song was played should be an automatic removal from the Supernatural board. HOW could you forget THAT song? (and mods, don't go all postal and freak out... Deangirl and I are friends.)
Same here...didn't put me to sleep but it did confuse me. I've been underwhelmed by the Leviathans all along, but I have to admit I enjoyed them more tonight than I have at any point up to now.
Do you seriously think the writers don't know where this is going? They plan out the season before the first episode is even on film. Just cause the fans can't figure it out doesn't mean they can't.
Atleast they haven't done curses to death. This was the first curse related episode since season 3 and they managed to move the season story-line forward with the leviathans and the effects that same is having . Which I didn't see coming, figured it would a MOTW type episode.
Good point both of you. Up to now I'd thought the writers were lost too but something about tonight's episode makes me think they are intentionally leaving us in the dark with the guys.
I thought it was kind of incoherent and all-over-the-place. And the way they left the leviathan thing hanging bothered me too. Cure cancer? EXPLANATION PLEASE!
Saying that just because writers don't tell us is cause they don't know is like saying that the writers of Harper's Island had no idea who the killer is just cause they didn't reveal it 'til the next-to-last episode^^; that wouldn't make any sens
Anyone else find it weird that they chose to split up on a job while Sam was not only hallucinating 24/7, but also hasn't slept in a few days. It seemed out of character and careless.
SOME ONE PLEAS HELP! im confused i am watching this in illinois (northern illinois if that's more helpful) and literally right when the leviathan says their curing cancer it goes to commmercial. Then the show comes back and they literally get into the truck and leave to franks and the music is playing! DID MY TV NOT PLAY THE MIDDLE OF IN BETWEEN THOSE TWO AT ALL? Or am i losing it and there was no scene missing and it was just edited poorly like that?
but at the same time, Sam isn't 100% straight with his brother, he doesn't tell him exactly *how bad* it is. Sam's pretty much been hallucinating 24/7, or close to, all season long. Us, we know it's a LOT worse these time, for seeing Sam's POV in Repo Man
But as we know, maybe Dean think it more or less what it's been all season, or just a 'phase' that Sam will beat alone like he's been doing for months. Sam isn't talking about it in a panic, he's been trying to act the more normal as possible in the episode
there was nothing in the middle, you didn't miss anything, I guess the Levi didn't wanted to say anything else and the writers are just having fun messing with us, leaving up wondering and making theories ;P
ya I think you missed a part there they packed up the stuff and dean was saying something about the curing cancer and that sam needed some sleep and then they was going to franks thats all I think.
With the exception of the first couple of episodes, I think Sam has been honest about what's going on, but it's not my intent to place blame on either. Dean should have said to Sam, "You're not hunting right now," and Sam should have said, "I shouldn't be hunting right now." I guess I'm wondering why they're not passing on some of these hunting jobs given everything else that has been going on lately.
hey I think it was a ok ep 1st alittle to friday the 13th tv show I like that and then it got to the leviathans that was too good and then to frank OMG NO WAY! not another one. and the sam not sleeping thing is freaking me out again him almost getting hit I was like holy crap next week is going to be one hell of an ep cas and meg and sam going nut this just to much my mind I am going lose it but hey thats great TV.
The ballet sequence at the beginning was really cool, even if had a pretty gruesome end. The way the shoes moved around by themselves was super creepy, though I was thoroughly entertained by Dean getting kicked repeatedly in the face.. and his strange desire to wear them :)
At least we got some Leviathan action in this episode, even if it was kind of meh. George was entertaining, though - I wouldn't mind seeing more of him!
And poor Sammy! I'm glad we got to see some of his meltdown - I was really worried they were just going to leave it to next week after seeing how normal he seemed in the promos, and one episode shouldn't have been enough. Though it kind of tapered off and disappeared toward the end.. ahhh well. Here's to next week!
On a different note, this show may ruin "Bad Moon Rising" for me - every time I hear it it's going to be a trigger for bad, anxious feelings!
Sam haven't talk about his problems to Dean (at least not on screen) since episode 2. Unless I'm forgetting something
I can understand that maybe it could be hard for Dean to know which days his problems are a lot worse and which time its the first time its happening and its not something Sam have been dealing and beat before
I'm glad Sam's talking about it and he's telling the truth, but he's not saying exactly how worse and out of control it is. Its a bit like what you just said, Sam should've said he can't be hunting right now. Last time he couldn't it was in episode 2 and he was honest about it, he said he knew he wasn't going on a hunt. Maybe Dean kind of expected his brother to tell him if he can hunt or not
It was awesome to simply have the boys back on the screen! Given that, this episode was pretty solid. It didn't really break any new ground as far as monsters go, but it served the purpose to move the actual mythology along nicely.
Sam's hallucinations and sleep deprivation was addressed realistically. He's telling Dean what's going on but he's playing it down, not really telling him how bad it is. He didn't tell him how he almost ended up playing chicken with an oncoming semi, but this is pretty honest for them. Dean, for his part, is concerned, continually telling Sam to get some sleep and reminding him that Lucifer isn't really there. There's not a lot Dean can do to help his brother at this point. There really is no outside threat he can fight. Sam's delusions are inside his head. They both know that, and until Sam realizes he's in real trouble, Dean can't hold a gun to his brother and make him sleep, so reminding him Lucy isn't real and telling him to try to sleep is really all he can do. Unfortunately, it's really hard to think straight once you get to that point, so Sam's reasoning skills are clearly only going to get worse. I think Dean showed the right amount of concern considering, but until something happens that makes it obvious Sam's over the edge, Dean is taking his brother at his word. Sam has spent years trying to tell Dean to let him go, that he's not responsible for him anymore, it really sucks that Dean finally learns that only to soon find that Sam needs him now more than ever. On a side note, don't let the sleep deprived guy drive the truck, Dean. That's one thing you may want to take control of. :)
As for the Leviathon... what the hell are they up to? Does anyone buy George's claim that they are there to help? Nothing Dick Roman has ever said or done makes me believe this is true. The only reason they would want to cure cancer is so the 'cattle' are healthier when they eat them. I'm not sure what to make of George. Why did he help them? It's something I'm looking forward to finding out.
And what happened to Frank? He was off the grid enough that he would've been almost impossible to find. So who found him? And what happened to him? The boys are really running out of confidants. And after he'd finally made some headway -- if that's what you want to call it.
So next week, Sam's problems really bubble to the surface leaving Dean frantic to find a way to save his brother. That search leads him to Castiel, but I'm intrigued more by how Meg fits into the whole scheme. Can't wait to find out.
I can't remember the specifics right now, but whenever anyone has asked if he's still seeing Lucifer he has said that he is. He told Dean in this ep that he can't shut Lucifer out anymore since he let Lucifer in, and that Lucifer isn't letting him sleep. So Dean has all the information. If it were my sister I would have grabbed the keys from her hands at much less, but I think Dean seems a little numb to all this right now. And as I said before, Sam also could have spoken up and told Dean they shouldn't be hunting right now.
Anyone wonder why the shop owner, who handled all those items when he took them out of the boxes, wasn't cursed. He should have been pouring boiling water down his throat as he danced around the room trying to stab himself with one hand and played with himself with the other.
My take on Leviathans curing cancer - I think it's an attempt to take over the world, if it is not a bald faced lie to do whatever research they want to. Think about it. The person who cures cancer would be instantly powerful. Governments would want to work with that person. People would pay an awful lot of money to get the cure. If Dick Roman were to cure cancer, he would be looking at whatever government seat he wanted in the US. If he gave away that cure, he would be untouchable throughout the world. It's a brilliant play to seem saintlike while building up a hostile world takeover. Very similar to the alien plan on the first V miniseries in the 80's.
I liked the two in one episode feel. I could follow. I think the cure for cancer thing is a way to gain people's trust. Dick's going to get a position in the political world, find a way to take over than all his buddies can gets served by people. I think it's possible.
Finally movement on the Levi front, but PLEASE don't let Frank be dead. Bad Moon Rising has always been a favorite song of mine, but dang SPN you are giving me very bad memories with it. lol
OK counting the days until I have Misha back..hurry, hurry and be next Friday.
I'm talking about the rest of the season, for all Dean know, it could've happen before and Sam beat it. Maybe it doesn't know that being unable to shut up Lucifer its the first time it happened
and like you just said and that I said too, yes Sam should've told him, and since Sam *did* told him last time (in the 7x02) he couldn't hunt, maybe Dean thought Sam didn't said anything because its not as bad as it seen. Maybe Dean was waiting for Sam to tell him he can't, to know that it's really really bad
I think they plan the general arc, with several main points, like what happened to Bobby and the Impala. But the details of what everything is about, no.
I think they write like a musician composes. They sort of know where they are going, but the details get settled when they need to settle them. With 23 episodes, it's impossible to plan every major plot point ahead, and I think they evolve different plans etc.
In this case, I expected some more hints by now to get the mind turning, on the big plan. I think they know there is a big plan, but are writing the details as the season goes on. I just hope they match the built up hype.
That wicked little grin when he said "We're here to help" should give you a hint. I'm thinking 'V' here. Everybody is going to love them and flock to them like sheep to the slaughter.
When it first happened, I thought it a bad idea. But considering they were rushing against time to stop more deaths asap, I understood they had to split up because of so many loose objects. Sam seemed fine in appearance and able to handle it, so it would be odd for those two to say "We can''t risk it, so stay together." Of course, we know it's much worse, but they risk their lives for a living, so...
I disagree. It's OOC if they do not split up, since people were going to die if all the objects were not recovered. And Sam is functioning as far as they know. Either the porn guy or the mother and anyone else, would be dead if they hadn't split. It's the nature of what they do, to put themselves last, if immediate death for others is the alternative.
I had the same thought about Frank - I figure he got paranoid enough that someone was watching him, so he staged the scene in his trailer to make it seem like he was gone.
I hope Frank is alive! He was fun. I like your cancer idea, because that made me go "Huh?" At first I was thinking some croatoan repeat, but I'm adopting your idea.
I disagree. They were much more careful in the way they approached jobs in the earlier seasons. Lives are always at stake, but getting themselves killed doesn't help anyone. And I stand by my opinion that hallucinations 24/7 and no sleep for several days is enough to raise flags.
Good call with the comparison to V. They'll slowly turn the world into their own cafeteria while earning the trust of the people with their good deeds. Plus, targeting all the small businesses to get a foothold in the community.
I just thought the people died off too quickly after selling out. Dick wants to stay low profile.
I'm in Northern Indiana and probably watch on the same channel. I had a blank screen for about five minutes at the 8:30 commercial but I think they resumed where they left off as the show ran long here. I got no interruption at the cure for cancer line. You didn't miss much.
I miss the Impala and I really miss the old music. Some how the show is not the same without both. I love how Dean loved his car that his dad gave him. It is almost like they never had a Mom or Dad. They never talk about their Mom, Dad, Cas or Bobby anymore. This is not the brothers I know and love. Everything has changed and this is not the Supernatural we fell in love with. Where have the angels and demons gone? Anyone feel the same? My son has stopped watching and is mad. We use to watch together and laugh at the humor and surprises about the show and now we don't. I think Sera has destroyed the show. We need Erik back.He is the one who made the show what is it was.
We have no reason to think that Dean believed this happened before. What we saw was Sam being honest about what's going on and Dean accepting what Sam was telling him.
I think you're right on with your assessment. I'm still a little reserved as it could be a set up for yet another twist. They are putting people in prominent positions in the smaller communities by buying up the businesses and offing the owners. It seems to be a ploy to gain their trust. Plus they can directly affect the economy by owning said businesses.
We can only hope that the boys get funded by the drug companies to wipe out the Leviathans. You know they don't want to find a cure....it'll cost them billions of dollars. (My conspiracy view from the same side of the fence Frank is on.)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was implied from what we knew about this episode, that Sam would have the first moments of his breakdown. We saw some big effects from sleeplessness, but I thought there would be an actual mental breakdown to close the episode. I'm curious if others thought this, or did I misinterpret. Of course, after the scene in Frank's trailor, I can imagine Sam losing it to start the next ep.
They already ruined the song for me. If I hear it on TV I know something bad is going to happen. If I hear it in real life I am changing the music lol.
I agree I wish Eric Kripke was still running the show, but to be fair, the show hasn't always had angels on the show and we did have Crowley and that other demon last season. It's like Season 1 or 2 when it comes to the demon front. Not as much as during the time the demons were released from Hell (season 3) and the Apocalypse.
Interesting point about early seasons. That could be a believable reason why they weren't more cautious. They are both so screwed up and are not used to caring for themselves or giving themselves priority anymore. Though I do think the immediate crisis and time crunch are sufficient reason. (Though I am tired of the guys splitting, even if I get the practical actors needs.)
This red flag they ignore is what triggers the breakdown next week, so I am happy as a fan, because I think some killer acting is coming up. Hopefully a heartbreaker scene with Sam & Dean together, before yet another split with Sam in his head, and Dean with Cas.
And anyway I still remember people bashing Eric's job a lot of time, especially in season 4 with the demon's blood, and even S5 with the angels. And now if you ask people about an episode/season they used to hate, they'll tell you how great and perfect it was in Eric's time. I feel like there's a '''myth''' who build up about him since he's gone^^;
I'm one of the people who never complained about the angels or Sam's demon blood thing but then...I was biased slightly lol. I have a thing for angels and I'm a Dean girl so I usually take whatever they give Sam. I'd probably have been more picky if it had been Dean in the situation.
Hey, anybody have an idea where Sam was driving from when he almost crashed? We can't figure it out. He wasn't in his FBI suit, and that far out of town?? Enjoyed the epi sooooo much. Maybe because, finally, SPN is back!!! The curing cancer idea to make more food is good, I'll go with it, for now.
SPN is in a lose lose situation right now since it's been on for alot of seasons. Some people want it to go back to where it was, and some like it the way it is now.
I really don't expect Sam and Dean to act the same way as they did back in the early years. They grew up been threw enough emotional trauma that will have all of us bawling in a corner.
To me yes the show has change but that's not the problem. The problem SPN needs to do better at now is correct the flow of the new writers. They suppose to be telling one story but at times it lose it's place to what they are trying to tell the viewers, and with this can make Sam, Dean out of place.
I don't even know where to start. Well I guess the good stuff. Found the jokes about the old porn funny, the conversations between Frank and Dean great, and I love "Bad Moon Rising" and CCR so that was nice.
Now the bad... Wanted to see more of a bigger meltdown from Sam, maybe not full blown, but more than just sleep deprivation, so that was disappointing. The cursed objects were awfully boring and only got my interest when it was connected with Leviathans. Unfortunately, they went and made me confused but not in an "I wonder what's going to happen with this" confusion but rather a "That was pretty lame" confusion. These Leviathans turned me off of the Leviathan storyline and that was really the one of the two big plotlines left I really cared about (Sam's mental status being the other).
I really, truly, honestly hope it picks up from here, but if it doesn't, I'm going to drop the show and consider Season 5 finale as the end of the show because Season 6-7 have been the worst for me. Still, this episode I voted Poor...couldn't vote Awful since "Bad Moon Rising" was featured.
Voted great. The cursed object plot was really fun and I was pleasantly surprised there was a meaty part of leviathan mythology in this episode too.
Loved the intro with the ballerina dancing to death/mop cleaner guy. The tea kettle scene was gross, it was one of those few times I looked away from the screen in SPN. We can only imagine, while laughing out loud, what the porn cursed guy was doing ;-)
In the scene with the gramophone kid trying to kill his mother, Sam suddenly bursting in was a little too convenient. There was no sounds of fight or cry for help. He should have ring the bell or knock. Or did I miss something?
Frank is dead, I will miss his sarcastic answers. Another one Dean will feel guilty about. How is it that the boys aren't more scared with such an overpowering enemy and not one ally still alive? How are they going to defeat them? Will killing Dick will be enough?
LOL about Lucifer singing "stairway to heaven". Sympathy for the devil" would have been great too.
Writers continue to show Sam degrading health. I was really afraid for him during the truck scene. He's at a point where he is a danger to himself and to the others.
I think the leviathian want to cure cancer because they see human as their livestock meal. They keep humans healthy just like a farmer would do with his herd of cows
Dissenters is good knews, that's a weakness Sam and Dean could use. But it also mean that cutting the head of the leviathans organisation, aka killing Dick, isn't going to be enough. If Leviathans can stand on their own and are competitive like we already saw, another is going to take the lead.
I really hope you're right about Frank. I thought he was dead but maybe they kidnapped him? I really will have a hard time thinking about something else than Cas return this week. Going to watch that promo again ;-)
They could overpower humanity anytime they want. By letting the black goo go through the water system for example. I think they simply keep their humans herd healthy, just like a farmer would do with his herd of cow.
Loved every minute of it! I thought, too, that maybe Sam's true meltdown would start at the end last night and that maybe Lucifer would make another appearance (especially since Sam was by himself in the truck and walking on the sidewalk and usually that is when Luci makes his appearance when Sam is alone), but next week I guess we will see him then. What did happen to Frank? Do you think George was smart enough to figure out that Dean knew him? After all, George and the other realtor knew Sam and Dean right away. I loved the snow scenery! We never see any of that with the boys! Next week is going to be so awesome! I cannot wait for Friday to get here fast enough! What theories do you all have about what might happen? I read somewhere a good while back that Dean has no choice to put poor Sam in the hospital, but based on the promo, it looks like Sam is catatonic. Seeing Cas again will be great, too, but can he save Sam???
I do not think Frank is dead...........I think he is hiding and he will come out when he knows it Sam and Dean. I think he had a showdown in that trailer with a Levi. I am hoping he won. I am very anxious about next weeks show.............I will totally hate seeing my boys going through all the mental anguish that is heading their way. I would also like to say that my mental state will be at risk next Friday as well....I do so love my boys and I want no harm to come to them. I want them whole/healthy/ and back in the fight/hunt. We are going to need a heavenly heal to to fix Sammy NOT a bandaid. We need the Hell drama ripped from his memory forever not hanging over every episode like a guillotine. Enough enough enough....lets please by the magic of CW television and SPN writers get this job completed. I really miss vampires/werewolves/skinwalkers/scarecrows/haunted houses/scary ghost towns etc etc. I think you all get my drift. SIGH. The good old days! SPN writer and Powers that Be.....turn around and face the whole room and get your damn noses and pens out of the freaking corner that you have written yourselves and our beloved show in!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's get busy and call Kripke for crying out loud if you don't know what to do...........Edlund, Gamble................pretty please ..return our show to it's original fantastic formula. It is all about hunting brothers THE WINCHESTERS the best looking most loving brotherly guys on the TV planet. Their chemistry is awesome their oneliners are fabulous, their facial expressions hysterical....their charm intoxicating.............their LOVE for one another PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They did the same when Dean was dealing with is time in hell during season 4. It was mostly suggested through Dean sleeping and alcohol problems. We had the spider-web hell thing and one scene when Dean was seeing bloody faces in the school art projects and that's all.
Really showing hell is going to require some heavy sci-fi blue screen thing. I guess the usual budget is to blame here.
"maybe next ep will make it clear why they didn't get to Sam's breakdown yet."
Exactly what I think. They certainly keep some juicy stuff for his time in hospital when he will be all tied up on his bed.
About Dean attitude, I think he is quite in denial about San state.
And as SuePoe pointed in her/his post somewhere in this thread, I quote: "Sam has spent the last seasons trying to tell Dean that he's not responsible for him anymore".
Now, Dean see more "Sam has is partner-brother he can count o" than as his "baby brother he must protect". That doesn't mean he will let him down. Dean protective instinct is what defines him, especially concerning his brother.
I think he will freak out when Sam breakdown will be blatant.
I won't discuss Cas here. It would be pointless as we obviously are on an opposite emotional scale concerning his character. We'll just have to agree to disagree ;-) We'll just have to agree to disagree ;-)
I am also partial to seasons 4 and 5, Castiel, Jimmy, Hippie Cas, Crowley, Alastair, Lucifer, the Angel story line was great to me. Just starting in season 4 again.
I can see that happening only if he knew they were cursed. Otherwise it just isn't realistic. Most likely, he took them out, examined them, and put them out on a shelf. Then he had to wrap them or put them in a bag or box for the customer to take home. If the customer saw them in the box, the customer would expect to get the box too.
Come on, she was really funny. "SamLicker81", "MoreThanBrothers.net" ... I was laughing so hard with every word that came out of her mouth. I conceide her last episode "time for a wedding" was over the top and not really funny, but otherwise, she was a great "comic-relief" character.
Sam: Umm... Becky, can you... quit touching me? Becky: No...
I agree with you on the Sam halluncinations and the Dean reaction comments. On the portrayal of Sam's breakdown, I think they really overreached when they decided to write Sam with psychic pain so profound that he could be locked in his own body. Deep psychological exploration isn't their strength, but maybe next week will surprise me. What would really impress me is if this is leading somewhere other than Sam gets past it. If this ties into the mytharc somehow, I may reassess my criticism.
On Dean's reaction, I was dancing around this a little in my other post, but what I was wondering is whether Dean's seeming lack of concern says something about Dean's state of mind. All season Dean has been passively suicidal (like in season 3). He mentioned driving off the cliff with Sam, and he's been uncharacteristically reckless. He sees only death ahead and has lost all hope. On the other side, we see Sam who is aware he is impaired, but is even more worried about Dean's judgment. He knows his brother and sees Dean's suicidal tendencies, but apparently Sam is not at the same place Dean is at. He would probably join Dean in driving off the cliff to not be left behind, but I don't think Sam wants this yet. This might be the reason that Sam didn't back down in this hunt and let Dean go off on his own.
I think the days of the older protective brother are over. They belong to an era when Dean still had hope for a future and felt he had something to protect. This suicidal path may be the Butch and Sundance influence that we've been waiting for.
I'm wondering whether this will change, or whether it will continue into next season (I'm assuming the show's last). The writers could go a couple of ways - create a turning point where Sam and Dean get back hope and start to develop connections to people again, or commit to the Butch and Sundance ending and make the final season about Sam and Dean planning how they're going to go out.
This episode was totally not what I expected. I assumed it was gonna be a random episode that had nothing to do with the main storyline of the season. I'm glad I was proved wrong. And I feel weird saying this, but I love the Leviathans. Theyre such entertaining villains
I'm thinking Frank is still alive, too. He is so far off the grid, how could anyone have found him? And how could anyone have even known about him? He covers his tracks when talking to Dean (Unnamed servers, isolated public phone booths, etc.) and if they can't find the boys who aren't exactly being stealthy, how in the world would they find Frank?
And the Leviathon here to help? Seriously? they've left a bloody trail so long it rivals the Winchesters. :) They don't seem overly concerned with preserving humans, so yeah, not exactly buying the party line, George. People are nothing but cattle -- food -- to them. Unless Dick is operating against orders, but you'd think they'd have made some effort to contain him a little by now. Maybe there are two factions? After all, not all denizens of purgatory are bad. Take Dr. Visiak for example. It's an interesting twist. Since I'm sure we haven't seen the last of George, I'm interested to see where it goes.
I like George. He's like Crowley and Meg but for the Leviathans. Where we get to see more of their pov, their world.
The problem with these new Supernatural episodes and why they pale in comparison to the old ones is because...they're too funny. Remember back in the day when the monsters seemed real and scary? Where people were dying and you actually cared? Where it wasn't funny or the feeling of "oh there goes another one"? Where the deaths seemed more likely, despite the thing that killed them? I mean seriously, a dancer danced her feet off? And she didn't even scream? The cases aren't as serious and dark and real as they used to be. That's the problem.
When Lucifer/Sam is beating Dean in Swan Song is where I have to turn away. That is the worse scene I have ever seen, Dean not doing anything to defend his self and saying it's ok I am here, I will not leave you. Damn can't even type this without tearing up. Silly I know, but I just feel every hurt for my guys.
I pretty much agree with you. I didn't mind Becky until SSTFAW. I loved Sympathy for the Devil ("Sam stroked Dean's clavicle" or whatever it was had me laughing for the whole episode).
Until TFAW she was silly and fun, but they overused her in that episode AND made her horrible. She essentially kidnapped and raped Sam. Whether or not they actually had sex doesn't matter-- drugging someone to marry them is not cute or funny, it is a violation.I like to pretend that TFAW didn't happen, because then I can still like season 5 Becky and laugh at her in 5.1.
I also didn't get why they went after Leviathans without Borax. They also broke into a woman's house without knowing she was dead (unless I missed something). I usually get so into an episode that I can ignore inconsistencies like this, but for me this episode was just OK and like you I felt like there were some out-of-character bits. Still better than anything else on TV though ;).
Exactly. Writers are human...they can change their minds or even have an idea, start to write it and have it take on a life of its own and end up going in a direction they didn't anticipate. I've had both happen to me in my writing. I just don't get the feeling that the writer's necessarily know where they're going at all times. But eventually they always get us where they want us to be. :)
I'm thinking perhaps he managed to get away before they could actually do something. I just think the fact that there was no body leaves way too much wiggle room, if you know what I mean. ;)
Uh, it happens folks. Writers are human...they can change their minds or things can take a turn they hadn't expected. It is possible. But in the past, the SPN powers that be have always wound up getting us where they wanted us so I'm assuming that will happen here and I"m looking forward to the ride!
I'm thinking her presence is tied to the Leviathans. Remember Crowley was urging the guys to stop them. The demons are threatened too. Maybe Meg is popping up to give the guys an assist for their mutual benefit...stranger things have happened!
Agreed, chris, that bothered me too. Whether or not Sam was being honest (and he was), Dean could see for himself that Sam wasn't sleeping so it was dangerous to let him be off driving by himself. I get that they had two cursed objects to deal with but in this case I think a little extra caution would've been understandable, even recommended.
Glad someone else brought this up. Something was up with that whole character, and are we really supposed to believe it was just a huge coincidence that the cursed objects popped up in the same town the Leviathans were working in? We could see the Levis were obviously surprised to see the Winchesters there, so it didn't have anything to do with them. I'm wondering if the Antique Shop guy wasn't actually a demon. Remember, the demons want the Levis stopped just as much as the guys do and they need the guys to do it, apparently, so maybe they set up the cursed objects to draw them there? Would explain how the guy could touch the objects and not be effected...at least not until the demon left his meat suit. And then Meg showing up next week continues the demon connection...just a thought on my part.
God I hope not on the Butch and Sundance thing...I've been dreading that since they first mentioned it. I understand why they want to go there but I just don't want to see it happen.
As for portraying Sam's issues...they're mental issues, how exactly are they supposed to portray them? I think setting Sam up to have such serious interior struggles may have been biting off more than the writers can chew because its hard to adequatly portray physically.
And Dean's reaction...I actually agree that something is missing in relation to the way he would've reacted in earlier seasons but, really, what would you have him do? Again, Sam's struggles are interior. Dean's not a psychiatrist. What more is there that he can do? He kept urging Sam to get some sleep and asking him how he was doing, there wasn't much else he could do. But I do think letting him drive off on his own when he was suffering major sleep deprivations and hallucinations was a big no-no on Dean's part.
You can buy Borax in most home supply stores or Wal-Marts. I have a huge box of it under my sink right now. It's good for killing ants. :) That said, it is kind of odd that they keep confronting Leviathans without the stuff. It's actually very easily attainable.
I think this episode was not bad. However, there is something that's bugging me since the beginning of this season. Ok, the brothers relationship is not exactly in the same terms as the first 3 seasons, because they are older and the characters need to grow up and so on, but Dean, as the older brother and dealing with Sam 24/7, knowing Sam like any other, should know and perceive when his brother is not alright, is not telling the truth or when he's leaving out something about his condition. Dean knew where Sam was when Castiel opened the door of the panick room and was able to find him with Ruby, because he knows how Sam thinks, his moves, everything, but in this season is like Dean was written as the aphatetic brother. He is totally "blind" and i think this is a huge flawn by the writers about Dean's character. He knew Sam was with sleeping problems and let him drive? The writers are a little sloppy this season or is just me? Anyway, in overall, the episode was pretty good ;)
Sam should have been acting erratically all season - jumpiness, mood swings, depression, talking to himself. He also should have been talking to someone else, if not Dean then maybe Bobby, about what happened to him in the cage and what's happening to him now. Since this could only go on so long before the audience would tire of it, the show should have dealt with Sam first this season so that he would be more together by the second half. But I agree with you that the writers bit off too much. But by repeatedly delaying dealing with it, they just made the situation worse by increasing expectations.
As for Dean, he's doing what he can to help Sam, and I agree that there's not a lot he can do. I'm just a little surprised we're not seeing more worry from him given how he protective he used to be in earlier seasons, and I'm thinking it may tie in to what has been Dean's state of mind this whole season.
When I read that this episode was a hunt for a cursed object, my initial reaction was that Sam didn't tell Dean what was going on, because they would never go on a hunt with Sam in the condition he was in at the end of Repo Man. When I saw the sneak peek of Sam and Dean talking about Sam's condition, as they prepared for a hunt, I was surprised. When I saw them separate during the hunt, I was shocked.
I'm with you on hoping they don't follow through with the Sundance ending. I'm hoping they find a way to start reconnecting to people again. If they love nothing, they have nothing to lose, and I don't see how the show can keep the suspense if they have nothing to lose. That's one of the problems with this season. Other than the loss of Bobby, there's been nothing that can really hurt them.
I was totally meh about the case of the week, though it had some fun moments, so i really loved when it turned out the Leviathans were there. i loved to see one of them helping the boys for his own reasons, and it seems like leviathans have no problem on turning against each other so that could give room for a lot of twists and turns.
i'm hoping Frank isn't really dead... damn it show, i was just starting to love the character... why do you keep doong this? U.U there's a good chance something happened and Frank faked his death, and that's what i'll stick to until the show proves me wrong haha.
I really would have loved to see more build up on Sam's breakdown in this ep, but i'm gonna wait until next episode before judging. If Sera is capable to fit everything that needs to happen there plus probably some twists we don't expect and make it all satisfying, i'm gonna be really proud of her!
Anyways, i gotta say that the episode was nothing of what i was expecting but i really liked it. Finally some movemnt on the Leviathan front was cool and i'm actually starting to get interested. Like some posters mentioned here i immediately thought on V when George said they were here to help. It won't be an original plot but i think it could be kind of cool if done right... maybe next season we'll get Sam and Dean leading the ressistance against the leviathans with hopefully mre supporting cast. That could lead to a The End kind of scenario which i've kind of always hoped for, but with the brothers together. Also, i wonder if that cure against illness they're looking for will have anything to do with Cas' arch this season, since he can heal people and all. Maybe that puts him in a position where he can help the boys get some info on their secret plans, i dunno lol.
Sam didn't say anything about the fact he almost crash and at the end when Dean asked him if he slept at all, Sam said ''yeah yeah...a little'' with a laugh or something like that
No, i don't they're sloppy with Dean's characterization this season, taking in account in which state of mind they're telling us the character is. You said it yourself he's apathetic, he's just hanging in there for the sake of it not really cuz he has truly find a motivation for it. I'm hoping next week is a turning point for him between realizing how much his brother actually needs him and getting Cas back (even if there's still some bad stuff there) ...maybe that will give him finally some possitive motivation lol.
Was eating breakfast when I watched it this morning and I was like I do not need to see Death by Hot Water, just saw her body in the next scene when they found her. The ballet feet thing was gross too I was very glad they got to the little girl in time.
Exactly! It is the only thing they know to be effective against the Levis, so you'd think by now they'd have it on hand. And like Raven said-- you can get it at nearly any WalMart/hardware store. Although I agree with Deangirl that it was weird to have it in an antique store, but I guess the "friendly" Levi put it there.
Yes, they should have it in their arsenal by now but obviously they don't, and I seriously doubt they had time to run to Walmart before heading to the antique store. That's what I meant...they weren't just going to stop and go shopping at that point.
Why? It's not any less credible than any of the stuff they've done with the Leviathans so far. It was way too much of a coincidence that the cursed objects just started doing their thing in the same town the Leviathans were in. And someone (I forget whether it was Sam, Dean or Frank) made a point of mentioning the unlikliness of coincidences in their world...perhaps that referance was made on purpose? I just think there was more to the antique shop guy than we saw.
I guess I would've stopped, if it was the only way I could slow down Leviathan. I usually try to explain away these sorts of things, though-- so I am going to totally use your explanation and then I won't have to think about it anymore (it's scary how much I think about this show). I still can't figure out how they knew to bust into the dead woman's house, but I was on my second glass of wine by then so maybe I missed something ;).
Remember, Dean's dealing with his own issues this season too so he's not exactly in a clear state of mind himself, which is preventing him from responding to Sam the way he once would have. All that said, I'm frustrated by the way they've portrayed him and his reaction to Sam myself.
In the next episode clip he's not the drooling mess expected either. :P Maybe Sam's not going to have further mental/emotional breakdown, maybe he's having more physical symptoms, like seizures, which are slowly killing him.
I like your idea about it being a demon behind the cursed objects. But I think the demons would just ask the boys if they really wanted those particular Levis handled by them before doing something like that. Personally I'm waiting for a scene of demons and Levis throwing holy water and Borax on each other.
And good point about coincidences, but maybe the Levis having nothing to do with the MOTW was to further show they're hiding in most towns by now and that yes, coincidences like meeting one on a regular case can now happen.
Agree with you, though I don't really care who runs the show (personally I'd like to see what Ben Edlund might do with a season arc, since most of his episodes are pretty flawless). Another thing I like about previous seasons is that demons you fought with holy water and devil's traps; angels with the language of the angels, Enochian (because words have power), and the various Monsters Of The Week were usually fought with specific things as well that at least somewhat fit into real world myths. Sometimes things were almost poetic. But I don't see how killing Leviathans with Borax and head chopping fit in or is even uniquely interesting.
And like you I really miss the extra touches that made this more than a simple monster fighting show. I really liked the focus on family! I agree without Bobby, Castiel, the Impala, etc. things feel hollow and like the boys have nothing worth fighting for, that they're just going through the motions as a force of habit and that's just depressing and monotone. I hope those fans who said they wanted it to be just Sam and Dean again are at least happy.
I'm thinking they gave up on Sam's mental state and that he won't have further breakdowns. I'm guessing it'll be a physical symptom killing him next episode, like seizures.
And Dean's depressed. When you're depressed, you don't care about anything and it's normal to just go halfheartedly through the motions. Maybe Cas won't heal Sam but will heal Dean! xD Something has to already!
I agree with other posters who say this feels like they're setting the boys up for wanting to die. There's really no family theme aspect left, outside of saying these two guys are brothers.
Because I agree again, I haven't been feeling much in the way of brotherly moments this season. It felt more brotherly to me in season four when they were fighting than now. Honestly, it's almost like the writers are punishing fans for saying they wanted it to be just Sam and Dean again. :P Sam pulls worried looks at Dean and Dean ignores everything even more than usual. Yes, that seems very loving.
The last time we saw Crowley he was urging the boys to go after the Leviathans, which led me to believe that either the demons can't stop them themselves or just want to stay under the radar and not get their hands dirty in hopes of potentially saving face with Dick once he gets rid of the humans and turns his attention to them. It would certainly be the demon way of doing things. So I don't think they're going to actively go after the Leviathans themselves, hence their need to direct the Winchesters their way.
But VERY good point about the coincidences...perhaps that is just the way things are in a world now apparently full of Leviathans. This is Supernatural and one thing we know for certain is that nothing is certain! :)
"And Meg is back. Did she save Cas? She seemed to have a thing for him."
I'm not sure I would like a "thing" between Cas and Meg. I don't think she has the mojo to "un-split" Cas. Maybe she found Cas and tried to trigger his memory with no success. Maybe Cas must remember who he is to use is power more effectively. She then decided (or received order from Crowley) to keep an eye on a potential weapon, aka Cas, to use again the leviathans. She is already there baby-sitting Cas when Dean appear. I'm eager to see her mocking "Clarence" again :-)
Ben Edlund as the runnershow would be wonderfull! Where can I vote for that idea? :-P
"I hope those fans who said they wanted it to be just Sam and Dean again are at least happy."
Even the Impala isn't there to steal the Dean/Sam screentime ;-D And despite that, there is still complains. Somtimes I wonder If some fans just love to hate.
Yeah I know, when you're dealing with Leviathans the lack of a body could just mean they had a good meal, but this is Frank we're talking about...I have a hard time thinking they'd be able to sneak up on him with no warning. Until we know otherwise, I'm assuming he got away. ;)
It did look strange the way they just busted into her house, but I think they were taking the "better safe than sorry" approach once they realized she had one of the cursed objects. They didn't have time to knock.
Well I'm a fan who has been hoping that they'd get back to basics, just the brothers on the road fighting evil, but this is defnitely NOT what I had in mind! I agree that stripping them of anything and everything they had to depend on is not serving a purpose. I feel like saying, "Ok, Sera, we get it...now ease up and give us back our boys!". :p
Seeing Cas again will be great, too, but can he save Sam???
Yep. I was wondering the same. If Death, who is older than God, was only able to put a wall and not fully repair. What could possibly Cas (or anybody else) do?
If Cas has his full mojo, he could go back in time and warn or stop himself. I don't know if that is possible. That would also mean that all season 7 would be erased. The writers will not go that way. Maybe Death will agree to put the wall again?
"Ok, Sera, we get it...now ease up and give us back our boys!". :p :-D You just made me spit my tea!
Sera may not be the best showrunner, but lets not forget she is a hell of a storywriter (faith, all hell break loose, jus in bello,...)
I don't get exactly what some fellow fans mean by "back to the basics". They are still two brothers on the road fighting evil.
Back then, was it a "monster of the week" show, a "two brothers again everything" show , or a "family don't end with blood" ... I suspect there isn't one good answer. it would depend on how the viewer saw and remember the show.
Yes, you are a SPN fan. lol I'm with you and that may be why I have enjoyed the eps, On The Head of a Pin & Swan Song so much. I can cry along with the boys.
Oh I absolutely love her as a writer...think she's much better as a writer than showrunner. Not that she's been bad as a showrunner but I really wish she'd go back to writing. As for "getting back to the basics", I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm talking about the feel of Season One, when it was a monster of the week type thing, I realize the guys have been through a lot and have grown up, both chronologically and emotionally, so I don't expect them to be exactly the same, but I would love to get away from the grandiose, apocalyptic type stuff and back to good, old urban legends and especially back to that brotherly bond meaning something.
The whole basis of this show for the first five seasons was the strength of humanity, the strength of family. That's what ultimately stopped the apocalypse. And it just seems like Sera is doing everything she can to strip away that humanity and I personally don't like that. We need that humanity back...it's what makes the show!
Yeah, I'd be interested what Ben would do. I have loved all his dramas as far back as "On The Head Of A Pin", the farthest I can remember off the top of my head. I always call his dramas "epic". Big fan. I'm not quite as big on the comedy ones though, sometimes a little too far fetched for my liking.
I don't mind the grandiose, apocalyptic type stuff, but am with you on the humanity and it is what makes the show. I kept watching the show for the family that also fought the monsters.
Yay for Supernatural finally being back - I missed it. But not Frank too!! I hope he's ok. Loved that we got a Levia episode - they kept that quiet. The Leviathan's agenda gets more and more intriguing. Poor Sam - that near-miss was way too close to comfort.
"Maybe Cas won't heal Sam but will heal Dean! xD Something has to already!"
Excellent point! Debates on spoilerTV were so focused on Cas healing-or not healing Sam that we forgot Dean.
It is obvious that Cas return will help Dean. I think Dean blame himself for Cas death as much, if not even more, than he blames Cas for Sam mental state.
IMO, he should. Cas is of course the first to blame, but Dean was his only friend. And Dean wasn't listening when Cas tried to explain what he had to deal with in season 6. Hell, It's Sam who pried for God-Cas to come back to them! I am glad about it because it confirm that there is also positive feelings between Sam and Cas, but why Dean didn't do it? Don't get me wrong, I love Dean dearly, but I think he let his friend down.
I actually agree, I'm disappointed Sam isn't worse off. Bloody and broken or bloody and badass are my favorite ways to have the boys. <3 Supernatural has seriously given me a blood kink. But if we at least get some seizure action, I might be satisfied with the apparent lack of Sam!pain. While I'm at it, I'm expecting a lot of emotional pain from Dean and Castiel this Friday. Please don't disappoint SPN writers! <3
That whole arc pushed me even more firmly over from Dean!girl to Cas!girl. I'm just so disappointed Dean gave up so easily. And he really hasn't gotten back up on his feet yet. To be fair, he's only gotten bad advice from Frank and Ness. So I'm with you hoping Castiel will make a change for the better. I'm hoping Castiel will support Dean emotionally again unlike every other character (except maybe Sam, but Sam makes me huff in annoyance a lot too, so...) even if he can't remember anything specific. Profound Bond for the win!
I would have thought Dean could contact Death on his own if that were an option. But I love Death so if they did go that way I certainly wouldn't complain. :) In my opinion, Characters > Plot.
I will be a little disappointed if Cas does end up healing Sam though. Sam's done fine so far this season, obviously he could function the rest of his life as slightly crazy with us fans occasionally getting Mark Pellegrino guest spots, yes? =D
You made me laugh. ^^ I haven't liked this season much either, for different reasons.
Personally I really dislike too many MOTW episodes, I think there's been a little too many this season. I'm a big picture kinda gal, I want more plot. There should be more than Sam's hair to identify what season an episode takes place. Definitely monsters and haunted houses are cool, but some overarching developments to go along with them never hurt. Also I like Sam half crazy. :P But I do feel for ya.
"There should be more than Sam's hair to identify what season an episode takes place"
ROTFL
The way I see it, there was a major theme for each season.
season one: quest for the missing father season two: hunt for the yellow-eyes demon season three: saving dean from hell season four: stopping the apocalypse (+creating a profound bound) season five: killing lucifer (+nurturing the special bound) season six: I'm still trying to figure that one ... deconstructing Castiel character? ;-) season seven: dealing with the leviathans
"Characters > Plot." Agree 100% The best episodes are those where the plot highlight the characters development or emotional state. I hate when the writers make the character act in an inconsistent way for the sake of the plot.
I'm on the fence. Hallucifer is fun, but I want Sam healed enough to go hunting and scowling at his big brothers antics again. Anyway, I don't think the writers will keep Sam mentally crippled permanently.
I'm thinking perhaps he managed to get away before they could actually do something. I just think the fact that there was no body leaves way too much wiggle room, if you know what I mean. ;)
Well, that wasn't what I expected at all. I was all set for a heavy ep with Sam spiraling down the drain and instead I got something kind of fun. Loved the cursed objects. Loved the guy accidentally selling the cursed objects and his wide eyed....'You mean she wasn't nuts?' I was kind of glad that they focused on Sam's sleep deprivation. It helped, for me at least, to see that the situation was escalating to Sam ending up in the hospital.
I should have known, the second I said out loud "I like Frank.", that he'd be dead by the end of the episode.
And I liked seeing the Leviathans again. Loved the way that ended and I still think eating yourself is just the grossest way to die ever! Do they have a single place they're dumping the heads?
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I loved it! Poor Sam. I loved seeing his gradual meltdown, although I had hoped we'd see it more in the last few minutes.
ReplyDeleteNoooooo, Frank. Please don't be dead!
Also, I love "Bad Moon Rising", but I'm still traumatized by the last time! And Sam nearly had another semi accident! WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS? WHYYYYYYYYYYYY?
Great episode.
Wow.That was incredible. Love the taking the world over with business angle. Leviathans have dissenters in their ranks?? I was expecting a stand alone and this fits in nicely.
ReplyDeleteBruce Hornsby?
Roger Yankit? Really?
Joyce & George stole the show. I was kind of disappointed when she died.
ReplyDeleteSynopsis and pictures about the shoes and talking about Dean...and everyone freaked out about having a Dean's episode??? Another time where the promos have been misleading......and the first thing we'll know is starting again in 2 seconds with the new promo everyone will judge like crazy ^^;;
ReplyDelete:( and aawwww....Frank....I loved him!
ooohh...and...DAFUQ about the Levis?!
ReplyDeleteHis name was "Peter Yankit", which is even more on-the-nose.
ReplyDeleteThey want to win everybody over first and slowly take over. Monsters with a higher intelligence.
ReplyDeleteThe boys are back! Finally! And what a nice episode to welcome them back. It started off with a GREAT EWWW factor.. I mean dancing her feet off? Just Gross. And then, the woman with the tea kettle... have to admit, I flinched and closed my eyes.
ReplyDeleteSam not sleeping broke my heart.
Pretty much where I am, although the idea that the Leviathans are "only here to help" is interesting.
ReplyDeleteThat was exactly my reaction too. I liked the ballerinas and the victrola. It reminded me of Stephen King for some reason. Needful Things maybe? The Leviathans always seem to put me to sleep. Watching Sam yawning wasn't helping.
ReplyDeleteWas anyone else sort of angry they used the song Bad Moon Rising, when it marked one of the most iconic moments in SPN - the Semi/Impala crash? I guess I'm a purist and they shouldn't use it for a minor filler episode.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised how sad I was that Frank is probably killed.
ReplyDeleteAt any rate...loved the first half of the episode, with the cursed objects.
ReplyDeleteOf course...couldn't remember when the last time they played Bad Moon was...the accident! Geeze, you're right, that was freaky bringing it back there...but a great classic SPN touch!
ReplyDeleteI don't think the fear was that Dean would be the focus in the MOTW story. It was that Sam's breakdown wouldn't be satisfactorily built up, and it wasn't. I've looked worse during finals when I was in school.
ReplyDeletejust because we don't know about the Levis plan it mean that the writers don't know it ? They're allow to know things and don't tell us. That doesn't mean anything
ReplyDeleteMeg to Cas as Becky is to Sam? Misery loves company ;D
ReplyDeleteis AASDJFHASJKDHFUILAHNUDHFUIHUDAHSJLFHAUIDSHFIHSADJKFH UASDHFSDAMFHMHFUIAHDSUH an answer?
ReplyDeleteIf people die for other reasons, they won't be around for Frank and co. to eat...as was pointed out to me while I was watching this one. Makes sense...Frank's setting up a food source for himself.
ReplyDeleteThat makes better sense. What I get for watching in a noisy room! Thanks for the help!
ReplyDeleteNever know.. hell I'll take Meg over Becky :)
ReplyDeleteI thought using Bad Moon was a nice twist. As for the Leviathan...either the writers are just as much in the dark as Sam and Dean or they are intentionally leaving us in the dark with the guys, which is really pretty clever. Time will tell.
ReplyDeleteI was expecting more too for Sammy's breakdown :( I guess we'll wait next week to see if we can have more than we think :)
ReplyDeleteBut at least we didn't see more character more than the other, it was balanced, while we saw a lot of comments all week (if not all month) long about how it will only be about Dean and Dean would get a lot more screentime
Forgetting when that song was played should be an automatic removal from the Supernatural board. HOW could you forget THAT song? (and mods, don't go all postal and freak out... Deangirl and I are friends.)
ReplyDeleteSame here...didn't put me to sleep but it did confuse me. I've been underwhelmed by the Leviathans all along, but I have to admit I enjoyed them more tonight than I have at any point up to now.
ReplyDeleteUm... don't you mean Dick?
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, I'm hitting myself over the head for it. It's been a while since I watched the end of Season One. Guess longer than I realized. :D
ReplyDeleteOops, my bad...yeah, Dick.
ReplyDeleteDo you seriously think the writers don't know where this is going? They plan out the season before the first episode is even on film. Just cause the fans can't figure it out doesn't mean they can't.
ReplyDeleteHell, I'd take Lucifer over Becky! :D
ReplyDeleteAtleast they haven't done curses to death. This was the first curse related episode since season 3 and they managed to move the season story-line forward with the leviathans and the effects that same is having . Which I didn't see coming, figured it would a MOTW type episode.
ReplyDeleteGood point both of you. Up to now I'd thought the writers were lost too but something about tonight's episode makes me think they are intentionally leaving us in the dark with the guys.
ReplyDeleteIts was great Very good Next week looks even better Meg and Cas
ReplyDeleteI thought it was kind of incoherent and all-over-the-place. And the way they left the leviathan thing hanging bothered me too. Cure cancer? EXPLANATION PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteSo Meg just shows up or has she been helping hunters with Castiel and helping him but can't get his memory back.
ReplyDeletecalling it- When Castiel touches Sam to try to heal him, that's when he remembers everything.
Saying that just because writers don't tell us is cause they don't know is like saying that the writers of Harper's Island had no idea who the killer is just cause they didn't reveal it 'til the next-to-last episode^^; that wouldn't make any sens
ReplyDelete;P I'll take Lucifer over everyone!!
ReplyDeleteI have a crush on the Devil these days xD SPN is turning me into a bad person
;P I think that being confused and wanting to know more is the whole idea of the episode
ReplyDeleteAnyone else find it weird that they chose to split up on a job while Sam was not only hallucinating 24/7, but also hasn't slept in a few days. It seemed out of character and careless.
ReplyDeleteSOME ONE PLEAS HELP! im confused i am watching this in illinois (northern illinois if that's more helpful) and literally right when the leviathan says their curing cancer it goes to commmercial.
ReplyDelete^^; good point
ReplyDeletebut at the same time, Sam isn't 100% straight with his brother, he doesn't tell him exactly *how bad* it is.
ReplyDeleteya I think you missed a part there they packed up the stuff and dean was saying something about the curing cancer and that sam needed some sleep and then they was going to franks thats all I think.
ReplyDeleteWith the exception of the first couple of episodes, I think Sam has been honest about what's going on, but it's not my intent to place blame on either. Dean should have said to Sam, "You're not hunting right now," and Sam should have said, "I shouldn't be hunting right now." I guess I'm wondering why they're not passing on some of these hunting jobs given everything else that has been going on lately.
ReplyDeletehey I think it was a ok ep 1st alittle to friday the 13th tv show I like that and then it got to the leviathans that was too good and then to frank OMG NO WAY! not another one. and the sam not sleeping thing is freaking me out again him almost getting hit I was like holy crap next week is going to be one hell of an ep cas and meg and sam going nut this just to much my mind I am going lose it but hey thats great TV.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't. I was hoping if she lived she'd marry Dick and they'd anger each other and eat each other lol
ReplyDeleteThe ballet sequence at the beginning was really cool, even if had a pretty gruesome end. The way the shoes moved around by themselves was super creepy, though I was thoroughly entertained by Dean getting kicked repeatedly in the face.. and his strange desire to wear them :)
ReplyDeleteAt least we got some Leviathan action in this episode, even if it was kind of meh.
ReplyDeleteI can understand that maybe it could be hard for Dean to know which days his problems are a lot worse and which time its the first time its happening and its not something Sam have been dealing and beat before
I'm glad Sam's talking about it and he's telling the truth, but he's not saying exactly how worse and out of control it is. Its a bit like what you just said, Sam should've said he can't be hunting right now. Last time he couldn't it was in episode 2 and he was honest about it, he said he knew he wasn't going on a hunt. Maybe Dean kind of expected his brother to tell him if he can hunt or not
I'm pretty sure I'd be more okay with the return of ALISTAIR over Becky haha
ReplyDeleteIt was awesome to simply have the boys back on the screen! Given that, this episode was pretty solid. It didn't really break any new ground as far as monsters go, but it served the purpose to move the actual mythology along nicely.
ReplyDeleteSam's hallucinations and sleep deprivation was addressed realistically.
ReplyDeleteAnyone wonder why the shop owner, who handled all those items when he took them out of the boxes, wasn't cursed. He should have been pouring boiling water down his throat as he danced around the room trying to stab himself with one hand and played with himself with the other.
ReplyDeleteSpoke my mind. It's like saying the author of a mystery novel doesn't know how they're going to end it.
ReplyDeleteMy take on Leviathans curing cancer - I think it's an attempt to take over the world, if it is not a bald faced lie to do whatever research they want to.
ReplyDeleteI liked the two in one episode feel. I could follow. I think the cure for cancer thing is a way to gain people's trust. Dick's going to get a position in the political world, find a way to take over than all his buddies can gets served by people. I think it's possible.
ReplyDeleteFinally movement on the Levi front, but PLEASE don't let Frank be dead. Bad Moon Rising has always been a favorite song of mine, but dang SPN you are giving me very bad memories with it. lol
ReplyDeleteOK counting the days until I have Misha back..hurry, hurry and be next Friday.
I loved Alistair, he was so creepy and evil, even more that Lucifer to me.
ReplyDeleteI'm talking about the rest of the season, for all Dean know, it could've happen before and Sam beat it. Maybe it doesn't know that being unable to shut up Lucifer its the first time it happened
ReplyDeleteand like you just said and that I said too, yes Sam should've told him, and since Sam *did* told him last time (in the 7x02) he couldn't hunt, maybe Dean thought Sam didn't said anything because its not as bad as it seen. Maybe Dean was waiting for Sam to tell him he can't, to know that it's really really bad
ReplyDeleteI think they plan the general arc, with several main points, like what happened to Bobby and the Impala.
ReplyDeleteWhen it first happened, I thought it a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteI disagree.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm with you on that one - I think he was the creepiest villain on the show by far. He made my skin crawl.
ReplyDeleteI had the same thought about Frank - I figure he got paranoid enough that someone was watching him, so he staged the scene in his trailer to make it seem like he was gone.
ReplyDeleteI hope Frank is alive! He was fun. I like your cancer idea, because that made me go "Huh?" At first I was thinking some croatoan repeat, but I'm adopting your idea.
ReplyDeleteSaint Dick. lol
I disagree. They were much more careful in the way they approached jobs in the earlier seasons. Lives are always at stake, but getting themselves killed doesn't help anyone. And I stand by my opinion that hallucinations 24/7 and no sleep for several days is enough to raise flags.
ReplyDeleteGood call with the comparison to V. They'll slowly turn the world into their own cafeteria while earning the trust of the people with their good deeds. Plus, targeting all the small businesses to get a foothold in the community.
ReplyDeleteI just thought the people died off too quickly after selling out.
ReplyDeleteI miss the Impala and I really miss the old music.
ReplyDeleteWe have no reason to think that Dean believed this happened before. What we saw was Sam being honest about what's going on and Dean accepting what Sam was telling him.
ReplyDeleteAnd George pointed that out to his boss. The boss was a little too kill hungry.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right on with your assessment. I'm still a little reserved as it could be a set up for yet another twist. They are putting people in prominent positions in the smaller communities by buying up the businesses and offing the owners. It seems to be a ploy to gain their trust. Plus they can directly affect the economy by owning said businesses.
ReplyDeleteWe can only hope that the boys get funded by the drug companies to wipe out the Leviathans.
ReplyDeleteYeah, he didn't tell Dean about the near head on crash with the big rig.
ReplyDeleteThey already ruined the song for me. If I hear it on TV I know something bad is going to happen. If I hear it in real life I am changing the music lol.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he didn't take them out of the boxes himself. Maybe the people grabbed the items from the box when he handed it over?
ReplyDeleteSad! It's such a great song.. too bad it's slowly torturing us with deadly undertones haha
ReplyDeleteI agree I wish Eric Kripke was still running the show, but to be fair, the show hasn't always had angels on the show and we did have Crowley and that other demon last season. It's like Season 1 or 2 when it comes to the demon front. Not as much as during the time the demons were released from Hell (season 3) and the Apocalypse.
ReplyDeleteInteresting point about early seasons.
ReplyDeleteThis red flag they ignore is what triggers the breakdown next week, so I am happy as a fan, because I think some killer acting is coming up. Hopefully a heartbreaker scene with Sam & Dean together, before yet another split with Sam in his head, and Dean with Cas.
So many possible scenarios. I just know she's by Dean's side a lot in the promo.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you
ReplyDeleteAnd anyway I still remember people bashing Eric's job a lot of time, especially in season 4 with the demon's blood, and even S5 with the angels. And now if you ask people about an episode/season they used to hate, they'll tell you how great and perfect it was in Eric's time. I feel like there's a '''myth''' who build up about him since he's gone^^;
As soon as I heard "Bad Moon Rising" start up I was like "OH LAWD, something really bad is about to happen."
ReplyDeleteTo cure cancer? There's a twist I didn't see coming, but then again, why would some lowly "LEVI" know all of the ins and outs of Dick's plan.
ReplyDeleteI still sing along lol. Being silly here. But I would be extra cautious if I heard the song lol
ReplyDeleteI'm one of the people who never complained about the angels or Sam's demon blood thing but then...I was biased slightly lol. I have a thing for angels and I'm a Dean girl so I usually take whatever they give Sam. I'd probably have been more picky if it had been Dean in the situation.
ReplyDeleteOr, what if the "cancer" they cure is the Leviathan POV - we are a cancer to them, and they found some way to rid creation of us.
ReplyDeleteMe too, I knew something bad was going to happen. It brought the Season 1 car crash right back to me.
ReplyDeleteI think it's part of the bigger take over the world plan. Save a few people then later get them to stand still while he eats them all.
ReplyDeleteHey, anybody have an idea where Sam was driving from when he almost crashed? We can't figure it out. He wasn't in his FBI suit, and that far out of town?? Enjoyed the epi sooooo much. Maybe because, finally, SPN is back!!! The curing cancer idea to make more food is good, I'll go with it, for now.
ReplyDeleteSPN is in a lose lose situation right now since it's been on for alot of seasons.
ReplyDeleteSome people want it to go back to where it was, and some like it the way it is now.
Hmmm This episode....was a little dissappointing. It was...funny but stupid funny....and...I don't know.
ReplyDeleteIt was okay I suppose. I mean, I did laugh. But no tension at all.
Agreed.
ReplyDeletehmmm sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteI don't even know where to start. Well I guess the good stuff. Found the jokes about the old porn funny, the conversations between Frank and Dean great, and I love "Bad Moon Rising" and CCR so that was nice.
ReplyDeleteNow the bad...
ReplyDeleteThe cursed object plot was really fun and I was pleasantly surprised there was a meaty part of leviathan mythology in this episode too.
“Do they look like they’re your size?”
“Shut up.”
I forgot too. I guess I'm going to stand in the corner with you ;-)
ReplyDeleteDissenters is good knews, that's a weakness Sam and Dean could use.
ReplyDeleteBut it also mean that cutting the head of the leviathans organisation, aka killing Dick, isn't going to be enough. If Leviathans can stand on their own and are competitive like we already saw, another is going to take the lead.
I really hope you're right about Frank. I thought he was dead but maybe they kidnapped him?
ReplyDeleteI really will have a hard time thinking about something else than Cas return this week.
Going to watch that promo again ;-)
That struck me too.
ReplyDeleteBut,They made the good choice. If they didn't had split up, one of the buyers would be dead now.
I'm also sure Dean his a little in denial about his brother mental state.
Maybe cancer give a bad taste to the meat? :-)
ReplyDeleteThey could overpower humanity anytime they want.
ReplyDeleteWhat did happen to Frank?
ReplyDeleteHe played a character just as creepy in Hell On Wheels.
ReplyDeleteThey did the same when Dean was dealing with is time in hell during season 4. It was mostly suggested through Dean sleeping and alcohol problems. We had the spider-web hell thing and one scene when Dean was seeing bloody faces in the school art projects and that's all.
ReplyDeleteReally showing hell is going to require some heavy sci-fi blue screen thing.
We'll just have to agree to disagree ;-)
We'll just have to agree to disagree ;-)
I am also partial to seasons 4 and 5, Castiel, Jimmy, Hippie Cas, Crowley, Alastair, Lucifer, the Angel story line was great to me. Just starting in season 4 again.
ReplyDeleteI can see that happening only if he knew they were cursed. Otherwise it just isn't realistic. Most likely, he took them out, examined them, and put them out on a shelf. Then he had to wrap them or put them in a bag or box for the customer to take home. If the customer saw them in the box, the customer would expect to get the box too.
ReplyDeleteWell no one could blame you for that haha
ReplyDeleteReally guys/girls? Not one of you like Becky?
ReplyDeleteCome on, she was really funny.
ReplyDeleteOn Dean's reaction, I was dancing around this a little in my other post, but what I was wondering is whether Dean's seeming lack of concern says something about Dean's state of mind.
ReplyDeleteI expected something like that, but I don't remember a spoiler about it.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Frank is still alive, too. He is so far off the grid, how could anyone have found him? And how could anyone have even known about him? He covers his tracks when talking to Dean (Unnamed servers, isolated public phone booths, etc.) and if they can't find the boys who aren't exactly being stealthy, how in the world would they find Frank?
ReplyDeleteAnd the Leviathon here to help? Seriously? they've left a bloody trail so long it rivals the Winchesters.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with these new Supernatural episodes and why they pale in comparison to the old ones is because...they're too funny.
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty much exactly what I thought. And I usually rate episodes better than "OK." I loved the song too.
ReplyDeleteI do too. I LOVE Lucifer! And we are both named "ally." Weird.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much agree with you. I didn't mind Becky until SSTFAW. I loved Sympathy for the Devil ("Sam stroked Dean's clavicle" or whatever it was had me laughing for the whole episode).
ReplyDeleteUntil TFAW she was silly and fun, but they overused her in that episode AND made her horrible.
ReplyDeleteAt least I won't be alone! :D
ReplyDeleteBingo...couldn't agree more. She was fine at first, but WAY overdone in TFAW. Too much of a good thing is not necessarily good.
ReplyDeleteExactly. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking perhaps he managed to get away before they could actually do something. I just think the fact that there was no body leaves way too much wiggle room, if you know what I mean. ;)
ReplyDeleteUh, it happens folks. Writers are human...they can change their minds or things can take a turn they hadn't expected. It is possible. But in the past, the SPN powers that be have always wound up getting us where they wanted us so I'm assuming that will happen here and I"m looking forward to the ride!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking her presence is tied to the Leviathans. Remember Crowley was urging the guys to stop them. The demons are threatened too. Maybe Meg is popping up to give the guys an assist for their mutual benefit...stranger things have happened!
ReplyDeleteAgreed, chris, that bothered me too. Whether or not Sam was being honest (and he was), Dean could see for himself that Sam wasn't sleeping so it was dangerous to let him be off driving by himself. I get that they had two cursed objects to deal with but in this case I think a little extra caution would've been understandable, even recommended.
ReplyDeleteWhere were they going to just suddenly get Borax? Not like it's just lying around...although it turned out it was at the Antique Shop...go figure. :D
ReplyDeleteGlad someone else brought this up.
ReplyDeleteLOL, yeah, that Becky can you quit touching me....NO had me giggling most of the eps and that is what I think of when I hear Becky's name.
ReplyDeleteGod I hope not on the Butch and Sundance thing...I've been dreading that since they first mentioned it. I understand why they want to go there but I just don't want to see it happen.
ReplyDeleteAs for portraying Sam's issues...they're mental issues, how exactly are they supposed to portray them?
ReplyDeleteI think this episode was not bad. Anyway, in overall, the episode was pretty good ;)
ReplyDeleteSam should have been acting erratically all season - jumpiness, mood swings, depression, talking to himself.
ReplyDeleteAs for Dean, he's doing what he can to help Sam, and I agree that there's not a lot he can do.
ReplyDeletei'm hoping Frank isn't really dead... damn it show, i was just starting to love the character... why do you keep doong this?
Sam didn't say anything about the fact he almost crash and at the end when Dean asked him if he slept at all, Sam said ''yeah yeah...a little'' with a laugh or something like that
ReplyDeletehe's not saying 100% how bad it is
A big container should be in their trunk next to all of their other weapons.
ReplyDeleteNo, i don't they're sloppy with Dean's characterization this season, taking in account in which state of mind they're telling us the character is.
ReplyDeleteWas eating breakfast when I watched it this morning and I was like I do not need to see Death by Hot Water, just saw her body in the next scene when they found her. The ballet feet thing was gross too I was very glad they got to the little girl in time.
ReplyDeleteI doubt the writers were thinking like that.
ReplyDeleteLaundry soap, 20 Mule Team Borax, I keep it to sprinkle in the garage to kill roaches. Works wonders.
ReplyDeleteExactly!
ReplyDeleteYes, they should have it in their arsenal by now but obviously they don't, and I seriously doubt they had time to run to Walmart before heading to the antique store. That's what I meant...they weren't just going to stop and go shopping at that point.
ReplyDeleteWhy? It's not any less credible than any of the stuff they've done with the Leviathans so far. It was way too much of a coincidence that the cursed objects just started doing their thing in the same town the Leviathans were in. And someone (I forget whether it was Sam, Dean or Frank) made a point of mentioning the unlikliness of coincidences in their world...perhaps that referance was made on purpose? I just think there was more to the antique shop guy than we saw.
ReplyDeleteI guess I would've stopped, if it was the only way I could slow down Leviathan.
ReplyDeleteRemember, Dean's dealing with his own issues this season too so he's not exactly in a clear state of mind himself, which is preventing him from responding to Sam the way he once would have. All that said, I'm frustrated by the way they've portrayed him and his reaction to Sam myself.
ReplyDeleteThat's an intriguing theory; let's see how it plays out. I
ReplyDeletereally hope it wasn't just a plot hole.
This episode was awesome, I can't complain at all about it cause it was THAT good.
ReplyDeleteI do:)
ReplyDeleteThere is also the possibility that there is no body because the leviathans ate it but I like your "missing body is a hint" theory better :-)
In the next episode clip he's not the drooling mess expected either. :P
ReplyDeleteMaybe Sam's not going to have further mental/emotional breakdown, maybe he's having more physical symptoms, like seizures, which are slowly killing him.
I like your idea about it being a demon behind the cursed objects. But I think the demons would just ask the boys if they really wanted those particular Levis handled by them before doing something like that. Personally I'm waiting for a scene of demons and Levis throwing holy water and Borax on each other.
ReplyDeleteAnd good point about coincidences, but maybe the Levis having nothing to do with the MOTW was to further show they're hiding in most towns by now and that yes, coincidences like meeting one on a regular case can now happen.
Agree with you, though I don't really care who runs the show (personally I'd like to see what Ben Edlund might do with a season arc, since most of his episodes are pretty flawless).
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I like about previous seasons is that demons you fought with holy water and devil's traps; angels with the language of the angels, Enochian (because words have power), and the various Monsters Of The Week were usually fought with specific things as well that at least somewhat fit into real world myths.
ReplyDeleteAnd Dean's depressed.
It was really good :) First Bobby and now Frank! I can't take much more!!
ReplyDeleteThe last time we saw Crowley he was urging the boys to go after the Leviathans, which led me to believe that either the demons can't stop them themselves or just want to stay under the radar and not get their hands dirty in hopes of potentially saving face with Dick once he gets rid of the humans and turns his attention to them. It would certainly be the demon way of doing things. So I don't think they're going to actively go after the Leviathans themselves, hence their need to direct the Winchesters their way.
ReplyDeleteBut VERY good point about the coincidences...perhaps that is just the way things are in a world now apparently full of Leviathans. This is Supernatural and one thing we know for certain is that nothing is certain! :)
I like drooling-messed or battered and bruised characters. Is there something wrong with me?
ReplyDelete:-)
"And Meg is back. Did she save Cas? She seemed to have a thing for him."
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I would like a "thing" between Cas and Meg.
I'm eager to see her mocking "Clarence" again :-)
there is also a "I only remember the facts when they fit my view" syndrome :-D
ReplyDeleteBen Edlund as the runnershow would be wonderfull! Where can I vote for that idea? :-P
ReplyDelete"I hope those fans who said they wanted it to be just Sam and Dean again are at least happy."
Even the Impala isn't there to steal the Dean/Sam screentime ;-D
And despite that, there is still complains. Somtimes I wonder If some fans just love to hate.
Yeah I know, when you're dealing with Leviathans the lack of a body could just mean they had a good meal, but this is Frank we're talking about...I have a hard time thinking they'd be able to sneak up on him with no warning. Until we know otherwise, I'm assuming he got away. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt did look strange the way they just busted into her house, but I think they were taking the "better safe than sorry" approach once they realized she had one of the cursed objects. They didn't have time to knock.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm a fan who has been hoping that they'd get back to basics, just the brothers on the road fighting evil, but this is defnitely NOT what I had in mind! I agree that stripping them of anything and everything they had to depend on is not serving a purpose. I feel like saying, "Ok, Sera, we get it...now ease up and give us back our boys!". :p
ReplyDeleteSeeing Cas again will be great, too, but can he save Sam???
ReplyDeleteYep.
I'm not frustrated or upset by the way Dean react because he is obviously exhausted, grieving and at his wits end.I think it is a realistic reaction.
ReplyDelete"Ok, Sera, we get it...now ease up and give us back our boys!". :p
ReplyDelete:-D You just made me spit my tea!
There should be a thread or a poll about that :-)
Yes, you are a SPN fan. lol I'm with you and that may be why I have enjoyed the eps, On The Head of a Pin & Swan Song so much. I can cry along with the boys.
ReplyDeleteI have said that before, some people are just complainers and are not happy unless they are doing just that.
ReplyDeleteOh I absolutely love her as a writer...think she's much better as a writer than showrunner. Not that she's been bad as a showrunner but I really wish she'd go back to writing.
ReplyDeleteAs for "getting back to the basics", I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm talking about the feel of Season One, when it was a monster of the week type thing, I realize the guys have been through a lot and have grown up, both chronologically and emotionally, so I don't expect them to be exactly the same, but I would love to get away from the grandiose, apocalyptic type stuff and back to good, old urban legends and especially back to that brotherly bond meaning something.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the grandiose, apocalyptic type stuff, but am with you on the humanity and it is what makes the show. I kept watching the show for the family that also fought the monsters.
ReplyDeleteYay for Supernatural finally being back - I missed it. But not Frank too!! I hope he's ok. Loved that we got a Levia episode - they kept that quiet. The Leviathan's agenda gets more and more intriguing. Poor Sam - that near-miss was way too close to comfort.
ReplyDelete"Maybe Cas won't heal Sam but will heal Dean! xD Something has to already!"
ReplyDeleteExcellent point!
LOL yeah, we're SPN fans.
ReplyDeleteI actually agree, I'm disappointed Sam isn't worse off.
I don't know, I kinda get the feeling the writers didn't know where they were going with Soulless!Sam...
ReplyDeleteSam was going to get the UHaul to take the safe with cursed objects away.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteThat whole arc pushed me even more firmly over from Dean!girl to Cas!girl.
ReplyDeleteI will be a little disappointed if Cas does end up healing Sam though. Sam's done fine so far this season, obviously he could function the rest of his life as slightly crazy with us fans occasionally getting Mark Pellegrino guest spots, yes? =D
You made me laugh. ^^ I haven't liked this season much either, for different reasons.
ReplyDeletePersonally I really dislike too many MOTW episodes, I think there's been a little too many this season. I'm a big picture kinda gal, I want more plot. There should be more than Sam's hair to identify what season an episode takes place. Definitely monsters and haunted houses are cool, but some overarching developments to go along with them never hurt. Also I like Sam half crazy. :P But I do feel for ya.
I'm quite curious about the creating process.
ReplyDeleteI suppose SPN writers have talk about it during convention pannels or interviews
"Profound Bond for the win!"
ReplyDeleteI wasn't going to mention it! ;-D
"There should be more than Sam's hair to identify what season an episode takes place"
ReplyDeleteROTFL
The way I see it, there was a major theme for each season.
season one: quest for the missing father
season two: hunt for the yellow-eyes demon
season three: saving dean from hell
season four: stopping the apocalypse (+creating a profound bound)
season five: killing lucifer (+nurturing the special bound)
season six: I'm still trying to figure that one ... deconstructing Castiel character? ;-)
season seven: dealing with the leviathans
"Characters > Plot."
ReplyDeleteAgree 100% The best episodes are those where the plot highlight the characters development or emotional state.
Good one, especially the beginning. They should have used the cursed objects againsts Leviathans. Poor Frank (
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking perhaps he managed to get away before they could actually do something. I just think the fact that there was no body leaves way too much wiggle room, if you know what I mean. ;)
ReplyDeleteWell, that wasn't what I expected at all.
ReplyDeleteI should have known, the second I said out loud "I like Frank.", that he'd be dead by the end of the episode.
And I liked seeing the Leviathans again. Loved the way that ended and I still think eating yourself is just the grossest way to die ever! Do they have a single place they're dumping the heads?
