it was pretty good. There were some moments i thought maybe the characterization was too silly (Roger & Harry scene) but still good. Enjoyed the two hours! Megan is sexy beast rwar. Don trying.. slipping a little and then trying harder.. they actually do make a pretty good couple. Poor Joanie. Those postpartum hormones are crazy!
I really enjoyed seeing Joan as a mom - it's not a role I ever really pictured her in, but I loved seeing her work through it. I'm also kind of surprised that Don went through with the marriage, to be honest, but I actually like Megan. I don't mind her sticking around! I don't like new Bobby, but I'll try haha.. I think I just don't like him because I'm not a fan of his MJ on Desperate Housewives. Plus, I hate when they cast different characters in the middle of a show. It had to be hard with the looooong hiatus, though, I'm sure, and Jared Gilmore moved on.
I thought some of it was stylistically a little too over the top considering not that much happened.
One thing I did like, just coming off a series rewatch, was Don's 40th Birthday party sort of tied back to Peggy's 26th Birthday last season which coincided with Don loosing Anna...and how right Peggy was that Don (Men) doesn't like surprises!
I think the premiere might harbor more forshaddowing down the line, but I think I am looking forward to next week's episode more!
OK I caught up! I really enjoyed it. I love Megan now... I was so ambivalent about her before, but I really like her now. She's kind've the person that's stuck in the middle of all this bull**** and she doesn't know how to handle it. She's the Anti-Betty... She makes Don happy, and pulls him out of his issues with his alter ego, and makes him live. She sees how the people in that building are all kinds of messed up...Sort've like an outside perspective has moved in.
Mr. Pryce needs to cool his jets. He got way too hot over that Dolores chick. I realize he's had long-standing issues with his wife, but that woman is so damn charming, and he...well, he is cursed with the face of David Robert Jones. So yeah, you need to rewind and think about what bad choices do to people in that place (remember Duck's fall from grace?) ...
Also, aside from the awesome one liners (You can shove it up your ass and have a concert!), Mr. Roger Sterling still makes me scoff at the sight of him. He is the most pathetic out of the entire lot. (and there are a few quite pathetic people in that place!!!)
Joan was awesome as usual. And I hope she keeps her place in SCDP!
OHHH But Joan's mother is that Realtor from American Horror Story...I love that woman...I can't remember if she's already been on MM or not (it's been over a year since I saw MM!!!) but that's excellent casting!
I was actually expecting some sort of over-the-top "OMG" moment like Blankenship or when that lawnmower took a drive through the office, but aside from the party and the "uh-oh" moment that Megan heard all that stuff said about her...they kept it pretty normal... I suppose they're saving it for later. I like it when a show goes for the slow burn rather than try something crazy first thing, and then fizzles out.
Couldn't agree more on Bobby ! I was surprised to see Jared Harris' name pop up during the opening credits but then I saw 'MJ Delfino'... I guess we'll get used to it ! Anyway, it's good to have Mad Men back. I didn't really like Meagan back in season 4 but I actually liked it in this episode...
Same here with Megan - I kind of rolled my eyes at her whole character in season 4, but I was surprised by how much I liked her in the premiere. We'll see if it lasts!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I really wish I had AMC. :(
